Bear Necesities Cafe

venicebyken4photo.jpg
Venice, by @ken4photo

Mother and cub. And here the bear family is out fishing, I think.

Pool party.

Life guard.

Nice humans pull a buck out of the deep, thick mud it's hoplessly trapped in. I was getting very worried they'd just pull the buck's head off, but don't worry, it'll be fine.

Squirrel enjoys some saxophone.

This guy play a harmonica annoyingly, so obviously geese like it.

Cuddly cats.

I could do this, but I'm saving my energy for an ultramarathon.

Crazy firework.

Rush hour.

This dog pretending to faint over his nails being clipped is still funny. I think he's saying, "When you trim my nails, you're literally trying to erase my existence!!! Oh heaven forfend! Who will save me from these bigots and racists?!"

Ibex spider-climbs up a sheer dam wall.

Wow I'm suddenly interested in make-up.

Does that mean I'm transgender now?

7 There is a really good Netflix nature documentary series called Animals. Only 8 episodes at 45 minutes each. I highly recommend it with the caveat that the narrator inevitably mentions “climate change” impact about 2/3rd through.

I watch it after taking Delta 8. So being a little high probably helps.

The narrator (David Attenboro, I think) has been doing the climate change bit for years. But I do agree with him on the issue of loss of habitat for the critters. It's a real thing, especially in So. America where they just burn everything in sight to start some monoculture crop.

>>Then you have the age of the universe, 26+ billion years now, according to the 'experts'. Lot of shit can happen in that amount of time. That is assuming that time and space actually exist and you are not just some computer created game piece, of course.

The universe is a little under 14 billion years old, the planets coalesced and formed around 4.5 billion years ago, single cell life arose on this planet rather quickly geologically speaking, roughly 3.8 billion years ago, it took couple billion years to get multicellular creatures and another 500 million years to get to us. That's roughly a third of the existence of the universe.

The closest star is proxima centauri which is a little over 4 light years away, they have found evidence of a planet in the habitable zone, so for example, if there was sentient life on that planet and they developed in the same manner as we did, they would have had to have developed breakthrough technology that would allow them to travel at the speed of light or faster, which is impossible because matter cannot travel at the speed of light or faster than the speed of light, per Einsteins theories.

Houston has cockroaches the size of a VW Beetle. And lots of them. Visited a cousin during late spring and we'd go on night raids in the kitchen. Sneak in quietly, turn on the lights, and strike as many as we could before they scattered. We usually just got one apiece each time.

One evening after coming home from an evening movie, I was the first to enter the house from the kitchen. One of those monsters was on the floor and as I stepped, it ran up my leg under my jeans. Swear to God I've never jumped faster and more times in rapid succession in my life. It haunts me still.

I think that's what frustrates me the most about movies. There are so many interesting stories that could be told with a decent three or four room set and two or three decent actors. Not even big names, just a good story and convincing concern/fear/etc.

But no, everyone has to save the world from a giant laser in every movie.

309 The lowly Opossum's favorite food is the cockroach.

Don't trap and relocate 'possums to remove them from your property. If they're around, they're helping, and are on your side.

Oh, and DaisyB? Check out a product from Raid, called the Fumigator. Little sterno can kinda things, you drop in to a cup with 1/4" of water in it. (the cups come with the package, worry not).

Produces an Auschwitz grade poison smoke, and the smoke gets EVERYWHERE, even inside a lot of the walls.

Buy about 3x more than the "square footage" says you need, remove all smoke detectors, and FILL that house like a California Gas Chamber.

You won't see anymore roaches for quite a while, I think?

325 DaisyB: "As God as my witness, I'd rather have the tarantula. Seems as if you could reason with them."

Tarantulas are cool. Mostly harmless.

We had sightings of them here in North Central Texas many moons ago but any development pretty much destroys their ecosystem. I liked having them around. Alas, I haven't seen one in decades.

Another critter that shares time/space with tarantulas are scorpions. Now they're trouble. Watch out if you have a tan carpet. You'll never see it coming.

326 Saw scorpion in Saudi Arabia. Just strolling across the bathroom floor while it's in use. Not a care in the world, that scorpion had. I just kept an eye on it till it strolled out. I was doing some 'business' so I was kind of stuck. Getting stung by a scorpion while taking a dump would have been unfortunate.
