Spaw Day Cafe

icecave.jpg
Ice Cave in Iceland, by @luontheislands with @icelandmeetsbali

Good dog remains calm and steady while a vicious toddler dresses him up like a whore in a red-light window.

These goats are less agile than I've come to expect. Do better, goats. #DoBetter.

Sitzkrieg.

Daring rescue of a dog who is caught in the bars of a railing, hanging out many stories about the street.

A springbok (or whatever) outswims a crocodile.

Dad humor.

Probably fake but I kinda want to try it.

Neat, but fake. The video shows a human player who has been replaced by CGI with a digital model.

Fire-fighting drones.

Every cat is just a superstar who hasn't been discovered yet.

Real art, just like the kind Hunter Biden makes.

Seagull shoplifter.

This bear says, "Thanks for the swing set, sucker!"

Mother dog intervenes to stop owner from hitting her puppy with a shoe.

Brazilian girls on the beach showing off what Brazilian girls are most desired for: soccer skills.

107 The judge in Delaware is supposed to rule on Hunter's plea deal tomorrow. A Republican Congressman filed an amicus brief with the IRS whistleblower testimony asking the judge to consider it when deciding.

Someone on Hunter's legal team called the court clerk, pretended to be part of the team that submitted the brief and asked that the testimony be struck. Not a joke.

The judge found out and has given Hunter's team until 9 pm tonight to explain or face punishment including sanctions and possible disbarment.

109 Goat fainting is actually a general strategy against predators.

Even humans have that reflex.

The idea is predators do not want tainted, overly bacterial meat. So they will bite live prey. Prey that is struggling. Fainting and offering no resistance is a last gasp defense, hoping the predator will not eat you because you will infected or spoiled, i.e. definitely not alive.

Oak Ridge, TN has aspects of it's history that are very similar. It's still there, of course and has active double secret hush-hush labs doing what nuclear research and manufacturing labs do.

But anyway, there was a big deal about a whistle blower at Hanford. He was saying that certain practices were unsafe. And the town and people at the plant were pretty mad at him.

I was from out of town I picked up his book and read it. Really kind of small potatoes stuff. The main thing he seemed to be saying was unsafe was that there were some glove boxes for handling radioactive material and their safety documentation was not up to date.

He named those glove boxes by their number - like H-17 or something. I said, hey, wait a minute. And I looked at the project paperwork I was working on and turned out I was updating the safety documentation for glove box H-17....

A neighbor, later a prof up at the college, had a job at Hanford during the war as a truck driver, he got the job of sprinkling the streets of the complex to keep the dust down. He said one day he saw these guys at one building in white coveralls working so being bored he made extra passes there. The next day when he checked in his dosimeter badge was missing from the board, and the clerk went back to see why, and came back and told him it was overexposed and they had to get him a new one.
Apparently they were loading the reactor.

"The National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements adopted the LNT model in 1958 with the EPA following suit in 1975, citing another study that was found to have, once again, an errant control nearly a quarter-century later. Stripped of this error, LNT is not supported by the paper. No changes were made to radiation risk assessments in response to the discovery of this error."

WHO recommends "SURVEILLANCE IN BOTH HUMANS AND ANIMALS" because of its "high fatality rate, large geographical range, and lack of medical interventions."
WHO also has listed MERS-CoV as a "HIGH-PRIORITY PATHOGEN" in order to "maintain control of this virus."

Thanks. I had never heard of this town/city until today. I am going to see if I can find out more about this. The first problem is most/all of the original sludge tanks were single walled and they leaked. There was a program to build new double walled tanks and then transfer the material to the new tanks. The ground contamination is still and issue. The long term solution was to convert the sludge into glass logs and then haul them to a deep long term storage site. The last I heard this was not going well. The Seattle Times, when it was still a newspaper, used to cover the issues with Hanford with some regularity. Another source of information, now long gone, were internet discussion groups that would post public Federal documents about what was going on at Hanford . They were an interesting read to say the least.

They thought they could remove the radioactivity with mops and buckets. Another test in the 50s was a couple times more powerful than they expected it to be. This is actually the best evidence to me of the theory that the Moon landings were fake. The whole program had way less failures and deaths than any previous big leap in technology. They had more problems trying to fly the Atlantic or even introduce jet airliners than flying to the Moon.

267 Did we lose Vic or is he just no longer posting?

Vic was a neighbor of mine who was a professor at one of the state schools here in Oregon. He was born on the Columbia plateau, and grew up doing farm work. He had worked on the city sewage plant in Yakima before getting his teaching degree. During the war he volunteered for Army Air Corps but was rejected due to having German Measles which left him with a valve flutter. That is why he wound up as a civilian employee at Hanford.
