Amalfi Coast, @soniamede

Okay, belugas are pretty much telling us they have human-level IQs now.

My Big Fat Marmot.

Dad builds little rollercoaster in back yard. My dad did that, except it wasn't a rollercoaster, it was a cage he kept me in, where he fed me chickenbones and paint chips. Wanna know what I got for Christmas then? It was a banner year in the Ace household, I got a carton of cigarettes. Smoke 'em up, Acey! And then get back in your cage and eat your chickenbones.

The leftwing propaganda media keeps telling me that Biden is "healthy for his age." No, he's unhealthy for his age. He's dying. This is healthy for one's age. I don't see Biden doing this. I see him falling up stairs and tripping over cables and shaking hands with ghosts.

That's kind of a sign that you're getting close to death -- when you start shaking hands with ghosts. That's what they call "a tip-off."

It's like the end of Platoon. Well not the end. When Wiliam Dafoe dies.

Gas grass or ass, no rides for free. Except for this guy.

I can't believe I'm watching this women's volleyball clip and I'm not even looking at the boobies.

Asbestos underwear.

Cheers, baby!

Scary!

Little cowboy in training.

I have the conch!

All goofed up on gigglejuice.

You can only achieve excellence if you sufficiently punish failure.

Mother duck tries convincing her very-skeptical ducklings to follow her.

I could start watching sports again if they added CGI effects.

Finger ninjas.

Dogs want to help.

Dad protecting his baby from a fall.

Pretty girl dancing on a skateboard.

Let's slide down the hill and we can f*** all the cows..!

Seal noses are dope.

10 The Amalfi Coast is so gorgeous. It's been a while since I visited, but the top photo is very accurate. My advice, hire a driver, do not drive yourself. There are curves where you may need to put vaseline on the sides of the vehicle to pass one another.

An explosion at a homeless encampment outside Harborview Medical Center in Seattle was the result of "multiple explosive devices" being detonated, possibly in connection to an ongoing battle for control of the drug trade among the homeless, according to a newly-released police report.
The explosion happened Friday morning, July 21, at the encampment that sits between I-5 and the hospital in downtown Seattle.
In a police report obtained by KOMO News, witnesses to the explosion said it was a targeted attack on a fentanyl tent where 20 "customers" were inside using drugs.

LUXURY!!! We rolled down a three or four story tad-too-steep hill full of stumps and rocks behind an appliance store in cardboard boxes from refrigerators and other machines they'd put out on the floor.

That's not a joke. We did. Shocking that we weren't badly hurt. Some of the best years of my life.

182 I am bereft.

For about the last 3 years I've been reading books in the Galaxy's Edge universe created by Jason Anspach and Nick Cole, and today I just finished the 42nd book set in that universe.

Simply military sci-fi at its absolute best, but it isn't just military sci-fi, there's some cool existential stuff, a lot of humor, and some crazy other-worldly things that occur, as well.

Now what am I gonna read?

Wait!! The story was not published chronologically! Rather, many spin-off sub-series were used to fill in the backstory and character arcs after the authors published the first novel, "Legionnaire" in 2018.

So, now I guess I need to go back and re-read the entire universe, this time in chrono order of the events depicted.

I am no longer bereft.

183 I'm sorry. If I picked up a chubby marmot and he squeezed out a ten pound shit, I'd have to kill him.

Same sorta situation with spiders; you're welcome in the house but stay in the shadows and try not to be seen or you're going into the vacuum cleaner.

Niven is a young officer who trains a platoon of drafted men of all backgrounds, ultimately leading them in combat in North Africa.

That was written by Private Ustinov.
Interesting dynamic.

188 180 I knew that about Ustinov (there's a guy who could have just made a living narrating). By coincidence, I was driving home today, had the 60s channel on and they played "I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman" by Whistling Jack Smith, an obscure oldie with bad earworm tendencies.

Jolly good Private. Now fetch me my tea, get a good shine on these boots, and write me a great screenplay. Be quick about it now man! Jerries and all...sure to muck things up.

I thought I was the only one ate up with that story arch. Masters was my favorite character. Although Chun was my close 2nd.

194 Niven (and Ustinov) wound up in a CI outfit, broadcasting false stuff the Germans could intercept. Sounds pretty calm and collected, but they did it close enough where they could watch and even hear the Krauts responding.

Would of loved to have sat down with those guys, plus a few more, and shared experiences. Oh the tales we could tell.
Probably a good movie here...battle hardened modern soldier meets up with an aged WW 2 veteran and they sit under a tree drinking something and exchange stories...each opening up for the first time. And others come and go...korea, vietnam, etc...

196 David Niven was also a true gentleman. When he passed away, the porters at Heathrow erected a large wreath dedicated to "a man who treated even a porter like a king".

198 My favorite Ustinov film is "Topkapi." He won the 1964 Oscar for Best Supporting Role for playing Simpson, the bumbling man forced to spy on the crooks by the Turkish police.

205 Best thing about the volleyball clip? It was right at the end, easy to miss. Two of the players went afterwards to pick the table up.

Of course that is ripe for a sexist joke, so we can all laugh about it, but you have to be impressed by the humility. Professional sportsmen who didn't just leave it for someone to pick up, but went and sorted it for themselves. Classy ladies.
