Queering the Trans Movement

The Summer of Pride runs into a few obstacles

June is over. School is out. Rachel Levine's Summer of Pride is getting some support in government circles and in deep blue states, but there have been some complications in the plan to "play on the offensive".

I blame Queer Theory for part of the conflict between the pro- and anti- "summer of pride" sides. Queer Theory is big on social construction of human identities. When I think of "social construction", I tend to think of orderly things - - like, say, bees constructing honeycombs. The only way to make "Trans" anything even close to orderly and normal is to get everybody to support it -- say, by using "preferred pronouns" and such -- because "Trans" is socially constructed. If someone refuses to go along, the construction crumbles. This is sometimes called "genocide".

Queer Theory is also big on destroying normalcy. So if "Trans" starts to seem "normal", "queering" would move on to the next thing, like transhumanism, for example. So all those hormones, all that surgery, etc. would become useless to queerness. But in the meantime, there is money to be made.

Back to this summer.

Trans is sometimes called the "gateway to pedophilia", at least in terms of "Theory". People pushing trans ideology are being called "groomers". They can't be too happy about reports like this:

A former ABC News acclaimed producer, previously the outlet's senior Emmy-winning investigative journalist, pleaded guilty Friday to federal charges of transporting and possessing child pronography in a horrific case involving infant r@pe.

so soon after the story that Ace picked up yesterday:

The first openly transgender lawmaker in the US is facing federal charges in connection with sexual exploitation at a Tyngsborough, Massachusetts daycare center. A teacher at the daycare who assisted the lawmaker in obtaining sexual pictures of the children has also been arrested and was charged in June. In a press release, the Justice Department referred to trans-identified male Stacie Laughton as "a New Hampshire woman."

These stories will probably both turn out to be far-right conspiracy theories. Like that movie about child abductions.

The Far Right is getting upset about a lot of things these days.

Helen Joyce Explains

In 2021, Helen Joyce wrote a book, Trans: When Ideology Meets Reality. For some reason, she has been doing a lot of interviews in recent weeks.

She has a PhD in mathematics and wrote for The Economist for several years. She's not much for the "social construction" ideas of Queer Theory. She thinks clearly. Here is part of an interview with Megyn Kelly that addresses reality vs. linguistics (social construction):

You've seen them egged on in a frenzy against "Harry Potter" novelist J.K. Rowling, against women's tennis champion Martina Navratalova and so on.

And then he reports on an interview with an Irish journalist named Helen Joyce, who, when asked the same question, gave one of the most gut-wrenching, horrific answers I think I've ever heard. . .
. . ."A lot of people have done what is the worst thing you could do, which is to harm their children irrevocably, because of it. Those people will have to believe that they did the right thing for the rest of their lives, for their own sanity, and for their own self-respect. So they'll still be fighting, and each one of those people destroys entire organizations and entire friendship groups.
"Like, I've lost count of the number of times that somebody has said to me of a specific organization that has been turned upside down on this, "Oh, the deputy director has a trans child." Or, oh, the journalist on that paper who does special investigations has a trans child. Or whatever. The entire organization gets paralyzed by that one person. And it may not even be widely known at that organization that they have a trans child. But it will come out, people will have sort of said quietly, and now you can't talk truth in front of that person, and you know you can't, because what you're saying is: "You as a parent have done a truly, like, a human rights abuse level of awful thing to your own child that can not be fixed.
"There are specific individuals who are actively against women's rights here and it is not known why they are, but I happen to know through the back channels that it is because they've transed their child.
"So those people will do anything for the entire rest of their lives to destroy me and people like me because people like me are standing in reproach to them. I don't want to be, I'm not talking directly to them, and I don't spend my time bitching to them.
"But the fact is that just simply by saying we will never accept natural males in women's spaces, well it is their son that we're talking about. And they've told their son that he can get himself sterilized and destroy his own basic sexual function and women will accept him as a woman. And if we don't, there's no way back for them and that child.
"They've sold their child a bill of goods that they can't deliver on."

That last quote is similar to one at the end of an hour-long interview between Helen Joyce and Peter Boghossian. If you start listening at 57 minutes, there's also an interesting bit on transgender men in women's sports.

Though she doesn't really discuss it in the video, some of Helen Joyce's siblings have been on national sports teams.

9 Megyn Kelly... she's saying a lot of right things these days, she's sorta like Russell Brand. I can't exactly say why I dislike listening to them.

Kelly of course, does funny things to my nether parts (Brand does not), but still, I can't listen to her talk for too long. I think there might be something about the cadence, the style of speech, it's very... corporate pressish. Or something.

16 I have had tummy troubles for years, both stress issues from s___y jobs and from messed up gut bacteria.

One of the things that helps is Floristor probiotic. It doesn't fix the problem but it makes the gut issues less for a bit.
It was discovered as a traditional treatment in SE Asia for diarrhea and it does help with cramping too. Unfortunately it costs a buck a dose.

I’m in Minneapolis to visit son; we’re near Target Field before the Twins game getting a bite to eat. Seems like a nice area Anyway there’s a gaggle of young ladies standing nearby… except one of them is clearly male but dressed up like a woman: Sun dress, lipstick, heels… but here’s the thing: a full beard! Not fully grown out but prominent thick facial hair. He wasn’t even trying to look feminine (despite the clothes). The most baffling thing to me: the girls he was with were very attractive. Why would they hang out with a freak??!

As a kid I watched Renee Richards play tennis fairly often, used to ballboy in tournaments where he played, and thought it strange to see him playing (not all that well) in the ladies draws, but that was pretty much the end of the discussion. IIRC, he just didn't make a big deal of his "transition" and it certainly did not seem political. But, to the extant we thought about him at all, we all thought he obviously was not a well person. I mean, who would do that to themselves (surgical transition)??

27 That is not the best rendition of FMTTM, IMO. It's too slow, with too many long pauses between words. But it's only one way Bennett sung it - he did more traditional versions, too. But one of the great things about the Great American Songbook is they can all be sung in different styles for different settings.

And, yes, Lady Gaga has a great voice. So did Amy Winehouse - who also did some GASB with ... maybe it was Bennett. GASB doesn't rely on auto-tune and loud music to get the singer through; it's voice. So these folks go sing it to prove their own singing bona fides, and it's not just the mixer in the studio.

I make about 12 Qts of sauerkraut each year, and my wife always has kimchi on hand. I eat a lot of yogurt too, all of it helps some, as does high levels of leafy veggies. I was never fond of kombucha though.

I will put garlic cloves and chili peppers in the sauerkraut, and my wife likes shredded carrots.

Hey though, this fall I plan on making brined apples, I have access to a late yellow apple variety now

Mrs. DIG and I were talking about the fact that she is not pretty at times, and she theorized that Gaga was basically forced into the weird costume role to just get out there. She related the story about American Idol, where my talented cousin tried out. The people were looking for weirdos with a story, rather than actual talent.
In fact, in the movie, Gaga has a line with the choreographer, saying she wanted her talent to not be covered up. To me, it was a statement that was probably real for her.

It's the school teacher strategy. You just insist you are underpaid, no matter how much you are paid. You beat that drum 24/7/365 so that it is ingrained in the social consciousness.

Ask someone how much a teacher gets paid, and most people will say "Not enough!". If you press them, they'll ultimately admit they really have no idea. They just know the messaging.

They don't need to improve their salaries by making the sport more popular. They make more money by constantly complaining, regardless of how many butts are in the seats.

I know some of the ladies on this here webzine don't like hearing this, but it seems to me the hump for young women to go from dating dudes to rolling around in bed with another chick is MUCH less of a "transition" then for dudes to start swordfighting with other dudes, and/or having their backsides plumbed.

Now that it's become socially acceptable, it doesn't surprise me at all that young women and girls are "experimenting" with same sex activities. I mean, jeez, why wouldn't you. Well, granddaughter of Diogenes #2 is an exceptional soccer player and will be playing D-1 soccer next year for a major SEC team. I'm very proud of her. She already knows my thoughts on this. She has a strong personality so I think she will be ok. We'll see.

Mesophilic yogurt is so easy it's ridiculous. You put some in some milk, leave the milk on the counter for 12-24 hours, and you have yogurt. If you get a "heirloom" variety you can just keep doing that forever. Mine has been going for 4-5 years and I haven't been particularly kind to it.

(it's instinctive) So it was two planes flying in tandem - that makes it something special already - and although they were single engine prop planes, each of them had pontoons that allowed them to land on water. I consider myself very lucky. Courtship was very short, but been married 25+ years. Hasn't been easy, with cancer for her and kidney failure for me, and the kids didn't have the active parents they needed (she found out she had cancer when they were 4 and 1, respetively, same time I found out my kidneys were going kaput).

Having driven across it several times (Live in Texas, family in Phoenix) my wife knows it as "the land of filthy bathrooms". On the Texas border, especially away from the interstates, there should be a sign on each road saying "road maintenance ends". Well, I know my wife will pass eventually from the cancer. She's been doing treatments for the last 15 years (12 of those for the metastatic form). Switched Chemo meds at lest 4 or 5 times. Had lesions in her breast (15 years ago), then her spine and hip, then her ribs, then her liver. Bastard things keep coming back.

I'm better now post transplant, but have to avoid the sun like a vampire (anti-rejection meds greatly increase the risk of skin cancer). At least, at this point, the kids are mostly grown up physically (if not emotionally).

Life is about how things are, not how we want it. Our kids experience what they do/did, and at some point it is up to them to make of their lives what they will. We can regret some of what we did, but if you can generally say "I did the best I could under the circumstances," that's all you can do now, live with the pain of it, and let it be.

This is very true, but just one extreme.
Now do the same analysis for mother who aborted baby.

Or even for a father who cheats on marriage and wife divorces. Or mother who divorces and fights for custody to protect child from "cheater."

In all cases the parents have done irreparable harm to the child, but now they have to define that reality in a way which presents themselves as the hero. The mother did not murder her child, but she fought for "women's health." The father did not betray a trust, he "fought for his happiness." "It is better for the child than to live in a family where the parents fight." (To which I always respond that there is a third option: Grow up and stop fighting.)

These are personal failings which bleed out into society and poison the well. This is why I am "conservative" and not libertarian or socially liberal or whatever label the weak and ignorant choose. Society (family, church, neighbors, laws. In that order) has the obligation to work against these failings in order to protect society.
