I have a theory, that portrait artists generally hate their subjects, and manage to use subtlety to portray the person in a negative way, while somehow feeding the subject's ego to the point of the subject not realizing the extent to which the portrait makes them look ridiculous.

Wiki background:
The Portrait of a Gonfaloniere is a painting by the Italian baroque artist Artemisia Gentileschi. It hangs in the Palazzo d'Accursio, Bologna. It is a portrait of an unknown gonfaloniere standing in full regalia and was painted in 1622.[1] Mary D. Garrard has speculated that the man may be Pietro Gentile of Genoa.[2] https://tinyurl.com/yck7u4ye Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 208.4 cm × 128.4 cm (82.0 in × 50.6 in) Location: Palazzo d'Accursio, Bologna [The Gonfalonier (in Italian: gonfaloniere) was the holder of a highly prestigious communal office in medieval and Renaissance Italy, notably in Florence and the Papal States.[1] The name derives from gonfalone (in English, gonfalon), the term used for the banners of such communes.] Posted by: andycanuck (krqg6) at July 17, 2023 09:43 AM (krqg6) 55

Portrait of a Condottiero
The artist apparently doesn't name the subject. If he -was- a Condottiero, he wasn't a famous man, otherwise he would have been identified by third parties. So Ms. Gentileschi could have simply hired a model for the painting. Doesn't have the look of a professional killer for hire, though. Posted by: mrp at July 17, 2023 09:45 AM (rj6Yv) 67

https://tinyurl.com/yyc5ycev Artemisia Lomi or Artemisia Gentileschi (US: /ˌdʒɛntiˈlɛski/,[1][2] Italian: [arteˈmiːzja dʒentiˈleski]; 8 July 1593 – c. 1656) was an Italian Baroque painter. Gentileschi is considered among the most accomplished seventeenth-century artists, initially working in the style of Caravaggio. She was producing professional work by the age of 15.[3] In an era when women had few opportunities to pursue artistic training or work as professional artists, Gentileschi was the first woman to become a member of the Accademia di Arte del Disegno in Florence and she had an international clientele.[4][5] Posted by: andycanuck (krqg6) at July 17, 2023 09:48 AM (krqg6) 83

The lawsuit against Musk presents evidence of his ownership of a disputed wallet by citing a tweet he posted on Feb. 10, 2021. In the tweet, Musk openly declared his acquisition of 28.061971 worth of Dogecoin. The plaintiffs claim that Musk exploited Dogecoin for personal gain by tweeting, using paid influencers, and appearing on Saturday Night Live, all while using wallets controlled by himself or Tesla to trade Dogecoin.
The lawsuit also highlights an incident in April when Musk sold approximately $124 million worth of Dogecoin. This sale coincided with Musk’s replacement of Twitter’s logo with Dogecoin’s iconic Shiba Inu logo, which led to a 30 percent spike in the cryptocurrency’s value — from $0.07705 to $0.10109. [The Gonfalonier (in Italian: gonfaloniere) was the holder of a highly prestigious communal office in medieval and Renaissance Italy, notably in Florence and the Papal States.[1] The name derives from gonfalone (in English, gonfalon), the term used for the banners of such communes.]
Posted by: andycanuck (krqg6) at July 17, 2023 09:43 AM (krqg6) "The Gonfalonier" was probably the accurate title of the painting. Saturday night at the San Francisco bath house? Posted by: rickb223 at July 17, 2023 10:18 AM (ZVVGW) There was a kind of "arms" race between mounted cavalry with lances and pikemen. The lances got longer to outreach the pikes, and the pikes got longer to outreach the lances. The Polish Hussar lances were well over 20 feet in length before massed flintlock volleys put an end to most of the muscle-powered combat. Planes travel at 500 mph and can go in a straight line. Trains at best can travel 225 mph and still have to avoid and go around obstacles. For anything longer than 300 miles, taking a train vs a plane is stupid.
Posted by: Montec at July 17, 2023 10:32 AM (S2RnY) ++++ That depends. If a 500 mile trip takes, say, 70 minutes by plane (travel time) and 140 minutes by train, that looks really bad - a 70-minute difference. But the train is much faster on the "ends" of the trip. You don't need to get to the train station 60-90 minutes early, and you can get out of the train station much faster than you can get out of the destination airport. Regional rail can be useful. Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at July 17, 2023 10:41 AM (PHmov) ++++ Long-haul rail will never make sense in the US now that we have airplanes. Intermediate-haul high-speed rail lines (like the Acela) *can* make sense depending on where you put them. The thing the rail boosters never mention is that you need pretty high population density to make the scheme work. The catchment area for the line has to have a *lot* of people living in it. In parts of Western Europe, or parts of East Asia, or New England/Mid-Atlantic, there is adequate density to try to make a go of it. You think a little thing like "population density" is going to stop them? The obvious solution is to condense the populations to key cities connected by high-speed rail.

349 Anyone want to take a stab at how many miles of rail track we have today that can support 'high speeds' of over 100MPH? There is some, but it's not often that passenger trains hit the limits due to other train traffic and various other reasons (curves, populated areas, etc.)
So, unless they're building new track this is simply another grifting con game. Posted by: Martini Farmer at July 17, 2023 10:49 AM (Q4IgG) High speed passenger traffic and freight on the same tracks does not work. High speed passenger requires dedicated trackage, which costs large $$$$. What's called "high-speed rail" in this country is no such thing. What's the max speed on Acela? 100 MPH or 110 MPH maybe, and that's only on a fraction on the route. Mostly it's 50-70 MPH on the same tracks as freight trains. Amtrak's Sunset Limited runs San Antonio to New Orleans, but only three days a week. Heck of a layover.
Many years ago I sometimes had a meeting in Chicago or Pittsburgh, and the station was walking distance from my office. As long as the meetings were held in the Loop or the Triangle, I was golden for the train. Then one morning I arrived in Pittsburgh to find that the meeting had been moved to the airport hotel, to make it more accessible to those who were flying in.
