The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“All of these articles are coming up saying we had a picnic — there was no picnic,” Peter Smith, the owner of West Elk Air

Quote II

“We got our asses handed to us. Democrats in California have normalized what would be considered voter fraud in the rest of the country. If I had my way, harvesting would be illegal, but we have to win more elections if we want to change laws.” Jessica Millan Patterson, chair of California’s Republican Party

Quote III

“Yet their existence as institutions, as schools of learning, are only there today because of everything that was taken,” An Garagiola, a descendant of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa

Watchdog: Massachusetts Health Department Covertly Installed COVID Spyware on Phones

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people proudly sported t-shirts, caps, stickers, and other accessories with the words “I Will Not Comply,” “I Did Not Comply,” “He/She/It Did Not Comply,” or “Ze/Zim/Zhir Did Not Comply.” Actually, if you use ze/zim/zhir, you probably did comply. And many people who lived in Massachusetts probably happily complied as well.

Everyone should be mad as hell.

Jordan Hints At Launching New Hillary Clinton Probe: ‘Nothing Is Off The Table’
During a recent interview, Jordan discussed Special Counsel John Durham’s final report into the origins of the Trump-Russia probe and suggested that investigations conducted by his committee may expand to include former President Bill Clinton and first lady Hillary Clinton.

Jordan declared the alleged targeting of former President Donald Trump gives many Americans a big reason to question future elections and government agencies, adding that the Durham report made clear people need to go to jail.

In case you have hornets. They do sell hornet/wasp spray which works pretty well. Homemade hornet/wasp spray? Not so much. Genius Award Winner.

If you're dealing with a wasp nest, don't panic. You can use several methods to get rid of them, and none are too difficult or dangerous. However, one man decided that he would use gasoline (and some other stuff) to eliminate an entire wasp nest in his yard.

So he went in there and slung gasoline everywhere to drive them out. I was over there and went in to look for him, and between the gas and all the dry hay I realized one spark would lead to a mushroom cloud thst would be seen for miles. He was lucky that day

I once blew up a football-sized paper wasp nest with a home-made firecracker about ten inches long. Waited until sunset, jammed the bomb in the hole in the bottom of the nest, lit the fuse and ran away. Kaboom! The air was filled with confetti, most of which was wasp parts. No survivors.

41 Another father in law story about gasoline - he was working on the tractor in coveralls, then used gasoline to get the grease off. Soaked 'em in gasoline - then he went into the house and just threw them into the washing machine, with a gas dryer running next to it. It was right next to the kitchen and dining room, and he and his dear old fashioned southern girl wife had just sat down to have lunch when it blew the door off the laundry room - with doorframe attached - and blew all the pictures off the walls.

78 I have a nephew in California (not really close to him) who's always been a loud lib, was all in on the vaxx, got all the boosters too and sneered at anyone who didn't. He's always been into physical fitness (in his 40's) always been very healthy. He broke his leg recently in a freak home accident and needed surgery to repair it. Was supposed to happen today, but hold on - suddenly pre-op tests showed some big new heart problem that he never had before. All on hold til they figure out how bad it is.

imo these are mafia fixers, and deserve to be treated as such. They are traitors or worse. They do not serve USA, and they knowingly serve some "greater globalist powers".

I guess ballot harvesting steals a few local elections in Commiefornia, but I'm going to postulate that the state is a wasteland of blue idiocy where commies will always prevail anyway. I'm not saying to give up, but the CAGOP couldn't make significant gains even if they topped the Dems in the art and science of vote-stealing. So I guess I'm saying to give up.

Our old house is in need of much repair. Despite all patching efforts, somewhere, wasps get in, several every day. Around the house, they swarm. I have used chemical warfare in the past; haven't really gotten around to it again lately. The circuit breaker box has to be bombed annually.

Decades ago, my recently-late older brother was living here. He'd tell how he and his friends all knew, yes, wasps were flying around, so what; keep quiet. But there would be some newbie who would get up and frantic, waving his arms and, of course, sting-o!

They're all either those little blue-black wasps or mud-daubers. Peaceful, mostly. Used to have hornets and those aggressive yellowjackets and mutant killer horseflies, but rarely now; maybe the mud-daubers by weight of numbers have kept the evil stingers down.

Did get stung recently, for the first time in years. I put my elbow down on the arm of my chair, and, apparently, some stingy thingy reacted as they do, and wow did it hurt for quite some time. Long ago, I had a wasp just barely touch me with the needle as warning. This was a full-fledged dose. Poor little guy was scared.

Detroit never recovered from the '67 riots. Talk about a mass migration. At one time there had been some real wealth there. There were streets with large, gorgeous brick houses, and beautiful public buildings. I was looking at a book in the library that had photos of the once great buildings that are sitting empty and going to ruin, marble floors, brass fixtures, beautiful windows, woodwork, chandeliers, all turning to crap.

Setting your own city on fire has a downside. Who knew. And now we're watching the idiots on the west coast doing the same shit. Businesses will leave, middle class and working class people will leave. All that will be left will be city employees and dysfunctional people who can't afford to move.

It's just like slavery. Slavery's been around since two cultures bumped up against each other; the US is not unique and we know the practice still thrives today. Everyone has taken land from someone somewhere in the past, lost it, maybe regained a part of it, lost another piece, had a treaty or two thrown their way, ad nauseum. And then, the beginning of the exodus of the auto company factories (GM and Chrysler, who relocated to Warren and Sterling Heights, Ford was out in Dearborn), the disappearance of the tax base, the grift to get money out of the suburbs and on, and on, and on.

Some time back in the early 90s, I'm gonna guess around 1994, I was somewhat confused as to why I could get SN Porter and Pale Ale, but not their Stout.

So I wrote an email to the company and explained that I was a bartender in Tennessee that always promoted their beer, but wondered why we couldn't get their stout.

To my surprise, a package containing a Sierra Nevada sign showed up to the bar about two weeks later with a handwritten letter from one of the owners explaining that the stout couldn't be sold here because it was small batch brewed and occasionally the ABV exceeded TN's maximum of 6% for products sold as beer.

He thanked me for promoting his beer and for complimenting his product and sent me a sign for the bar. Very cool.

Ford's River Rouge plant was amazing. I visited there (with my parents, etc) in the 1960's. Sand, Iron ore, rubber, etc went in on one end. Finished cars came out on the other.
It covered hundreds of acres. Or more. Huge.
Glass, steel, tires, everything to make a car from scratch was made there.
There are still some big steel mills on the lower Detroit River, and the big Speedway oil refinery off of I-75 before you get into downtown Detroit.
Still a lot of GM plants in Warren and Sterling Heights, and Ford is out in Dearborn, still.

274 Anchor had been in and out of business several times all through the XX cent. It was the involvement of Fritz Maytag, starting in 65, that gave it a cult following, since he was a zany guy and a big booster of odd beer and home brewing. For instance, he sponsored the reconstruction of the recipe for an Egyptian beer found as residue in a pyramid amphora and brewed up a batch. He sold out around 2010 to a consortium, who sold out to Sapporo in 2017. The "steam" part involves shallow tuns and non-chilled fermentation, so the process can't be plugged in to other breweries' equipment as many other beers could. Too bad.

I doubt it. The plastic card system used in signs like that has some rudimentary "kerning" built in, where a wider letter (like an "O") gets a wider card, and a narrower letter (like an "I") does not. The person swapping the two letters, being in a hurry to not get caught, didn't have time to adjust all of the letters on that line to make the kerning/spacing work properly, so the narrower card just got placed in the wider space, while the wider card got stuck in the narrower space with the white overlapping the two adjacent cards. Ask me why I think that, but I'll never rat me out, copper.

294 Ok folks, I have a bit of a moral dilemma on my hands. The local Y that my daughter and I have been going to for the last 12 years, 3 times a week, allegedly kicked a girl off its swim team for protesting the presence of a tranny in the girl's locker room. They claim that they cannot legally do anything about the tranny (biological male) in the locker room due to anti-discrimination laws. The girl is now going public with her story and she's gotten the attention of none other than Riley Gaines.

So the logical and moral thing for us to do is cancel our Y membership in protest, right? I would if it were just me, but, my autistic daughter loves going there, has gotten used to it, and would be heartbroken if we gave it up. It's one of the only outside activities she has. (We typically use the family/special needs changing rooms and not the regular locker rooms so we've never personally encountered a tranny ourselves.)

To top it all off, my fire breathing conservative husband who wouldn't drink Bud Light if he were dying of thirst in the desert, insists that we NOT quit and that I'm making too big a deal of the issue! What ought we to do?

317 Detroit was whatever you guys rave it was until it burned to the ground in 1805. In the 19th century it was important in support of the logging and farming of the northern half of the southern peninsula. Ferry Morse Seed was the biggest company. Logging got over with, northern farming totally collapsed (they had misjudged the climate), and Henry Ford came up with the idea of the mill towns, where off-season farmers would work in shops part time making sub-assemblies and parts to feed into the Rouge. Doesn't anybody know about this? I heard we were all industrial engineers here.

When Detroit was one of the wealthiest cities, Detroiters were absolutely insufferable. Nothing anywhere was up to the standard of the art, zoo, symphony, theater, shopping they had in Detroit, and just like our staff here, if they drove past your town, like Chicago or Cleveland, it was a shithole. There was widespread glee (still echoing among the over 29 crowd) at their discomfiture when the wheels came off. But very few Detroiters left Michigan. They went to the townships and filled them right up.

Excellent idea and when/if he undresses in front of the girls, have everyone point at his schlong and laugh. Do this enough times and he may stop using the change room. Also take names of whoever came up with the expulsion ruling and who supported it. When TSHTF we'll take some action and teach some basic Biology the hard way.

346 "the story with Sarah Hoyt?"

she's a witch hunter, burns people at the stake with false accusations, no due diligence no attempt to correct the record, no concern that she's burning innocent people. I've been trying to get my information (DL and DD214) to her to prove my I'm not a Fed narc or ac"Turkish provocateur" ( whatever the f that is). Casually accusing people of being narcs can get the guy killed on some streets.

I think the real issue is I got too close to her "patriot" scam. she doesn't want us to "rescue the girls" because then she couldn't make bank blogging "bring back our girls". it's the only thing that makes sense to me because her reaction was way out of proportion.

Im not a 100% certain she's a grifter, but I know that people that love America don't spit on Marines.

Don't worry about it though, I'm going haunt her for years. apparently she's never read "Message to Garcia". I have purpose in my life again yay

351 Just to add to the earlier discussion about Detroit.

In 2020, James Craig did pretty good job putting a lid on festivities. However, it likely helped that there was not a whole lot of commerce within the city limits to take down as much of it left after the 1967 riots and Coleman Young’s actions post riots. So, there was very little ‘low fruit’ to plunder. Example, Target stores are nowhere within the city.

I always thought that American cities were only catching down to Detroit in 2020.

364 Hiya, JT! How you?

365
Debby, sorry I got distracted with something else. Corn, I do "cut-off corn", old-timey way. You can call it cream corn, but no milk or cream. There's many variations how to do this, but I do it the way my grandmothers and mother did it.

Take an ear. With a (sharp) knife, just cut off the top of the kernels. Just a smidge to cut off the tops into a pan. Now, take the back of the knife and scrape all the "goody" out that has been cut open. I like corn in a little later maturity stage for this as opposed to corn on the cob stage. More starch, and it makes a thicker "cream".

Now, add water -- it varies depending on how much starch is in there. Bring to a simmer, and you have to stir. Too much heat, and it will start sticking on the bottom of the pan. You have to watch this carefully. High heat requires a lot of stirring, but it heats up faster. Low heat, and not so much stirring, but it takes longer.

Now, about 12 - 15 minutes simmering. Cool down, then freeze. Now for eatin' immediately, add bacon grease, salt and pepper. That's how we like it. When freezing it, you add the salt, pepper, and fat when you warm it back it to eat.

366 Hiya JQ !

Me good !

367
We freeze it regular freezer plastic bags. It works well. Fill up a bag, but not too much, so you can keep the bag sort of flat.

It works out about 4 cups per gallon freezer bag, volume bad. Weight wise, it's about 40 oz per gallon bag.

Roughly 4 dozen ears will make about 3 gallon bags, but it varies depending on size of the ears and how mature and how much "goody" content is in the kernels.

I grow both white and yellow. And I do like a mix of both. I'll do pure white, pure yellow, and a 50/50 mix, or whatever ratio happens to be convenient at the time.

369
There are other variations on cutting off corn. One other common one i is multiple cutting pass. Skim off the tops of the kernels, then make another pass or two, with a final scrape of the cob.

These get more "husk", kernel skin the mixture. The method I use minimizes that skin/husk and just gets the max "goody" inside the kernels.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (Mzdiz) at July 13, 2023 03:34 AM (Mzdiz)

370
Another freezing method for cut-off corn is just to "blanch it". Cut it off into the pan, and then just get it to simmer for only a couple minutes. Then cool and freeze. This kills the enzymes for longer term freezer storage, but you have to complete cooking when you're reading to eat it.

Me, I think fully cooking before freezing does the best. When ready to eat, just warm it up to a simmer, then add the fat and flavor.

372
You can also do a whole kernel cut. That is more tricky. You have to make a deep cut to try to get most of the kernel cut off whole. But that's hard with a round ear, and a flat knife. They make tools to do this, of course, and commerical equipment has got it down to a science, but doing it by hand with a regular knife, and it gets tricky.

For cut-off corn, freezing is the best. You can can it, but that's tricky. They now recommend canning only in pint jars. For quart jars, canning is problematic, due to density variations.

With whole kernel, canning is not a problem.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (Mzdiz) at July 13, 2023 03:41 AM (Mzdiz)

373
Story of my maternal grandmother, back in the '30s. They had a nice crop of sweet corn, and she canned a bunch of it, cut off. In quart jars.

A ton of hard work over the season. Every last bit of it spoiled. My grandmother cried her eyes out for a week over that, the story goes. But she was one tough woman, and endeavored to persevere, and got over it. But it was a terrible thing. All that work and food wasted.

Anyway, in pint jars, things are more consistent. Don't do quarts.

The gulf between store-bought canned/frozen "creamed corn" and the real stuff you grown and cut off of yourself is light-years.

Commerical canned cream corn is abomination. Awful. The frozen "chub" stuff it not much better, although a cousin of mine claims he can doctor it up to close to the real thing, but I'm doubtful.

The store bought shit puts a lot of people off. They don't know anything about fresh cut-off corn right out of the garden.

As Miley will attest, fresh cut off corn, larded up with bacon grease and salt and pepper is like crack to us.

I can stuff myself with it until I just explode. My Daddy is the same.

Speaking of 95 yr old Daddy, in "cognitive decline" of late and getting sort of hard to deal with, he lost blood sugar control over the last couple of months.

Blood sugar hitting 400. We are taking steps. No more corn for him for a while. But hell, he'd eat that stuff until he exploded.
