The Morning Report — 7/7/23

jankburqwitz.jpg

Good morning, kids. As does happen on occasion, one story in particular jumps out and just crystallizes the nature of our nation, such as it is, today. The headline itself speaks volumes:

Interpreter Who Served with US Forces in Afghanistan, Fled Taliban Takeover, Shot Dead Driving Lyft in DC

As you ponder that, let's shift gears to the situation in France which is a warning about what is in store for us in the very near future, as if what happened here during the George Floyd 2020 Summer of Love wasn't warning enough.

Well, there’s one positive thing to be said about last week’s riots: they brought Western Europe’s alarming predicament into focus in a manner that few events in recent years have succeeded in doing, and, one can only hope, have opened the eyes of a considerable number of people who’d previously managed to avoid facing up to reality. How many people? Who knows?

Even before the rioting, to be sure, most Frenchmen understood very well what they were up against. Although heroic truth-tellers like Zemmour have been condemned in the French media for promoting the so-called “replacement theory” – i.e., the belief that native Europeans are being gradually supplanted by foreign peoples whose mass immigration over recent decades is the consequence of policies instituted by political elites without the consent of the populace. In fact, surveys have shown that most Frenchmen subscribe to the “replacement theory.”

But most of them also recognize just how dangerous it is to state publicly just what they think about these matters. On Monday, July 3, Christophe Cornevin reported in Le Figaro that two-thirds of French citizens polled before the recent spate of rioting would never consider running for public office because they “would fear for their safety or that of their family.” This followed a January 2022 report by Le Figaro that “no fewer than 1,186 elected officials” in France, including 162 members of parliament and 605 mayors or deputies, had been subjected to physical attacks “in the first eleven months of 2021.” Imagine how much higher a proportion of Frenchmen will shrink from political involvement now, after the homes of several mayors across France have been targeted by rioters. . .

. . . Ten years ago, I wrote here about a nonfiction bestseller, La France Orange Méchanique (France Clockwork Orange) by the pseudonymous Laurent Obertone, whose subject was the extraordinary increase in violent crime throughout France that has been caused by mass immigration from the Muslim world. “From 1830 all the way up to the outbreak of World War II,” I wrote, citing Obertone, “French crime rates were a tiny fraction of what they are now; from 1980 to 2000, the rate of violent crime multiplied by a factor of five.” And one thing you can be sure of is that that rate hasn’t declined in the 23 years since.

After La France Orange Méchanique, Obertone published a dystopian novel, Guerrilla (2016); two sequels followed. These fictions (which I haven’t read) imagine a French civil war that begins with a clash in one of the immigrant suburbs between police and a violent youth gang. On June 30, in the midst of the riots, Obertone granted an interview to a French website in which he acknowledged that the killing in Nanterre that triggered the recent wave of destruction bore a “striking” resemblance to the events that set off the war depicted in his trilogy:

The government is just as cowardly, the suburbs just as quick to ignite, the citizenry just as passive, the police just as muzzled, the media and other left-wing hustlers just as perfect in their active complicity….as I’ve been saying for a long time, this country is a can of gasoline with only a spark missing.

Bruce Bawer who writes at Frontpage Mag is a columnist you should get to know. He's living in Norway, which is on the same trajectory as England, France and much of Western Europe, towards being subsumed by Islam, and is right on the front lines. His observations about the near term prospects for France as well as its schizophrenic response to this as well as the complete obfuscation about the nature of the problem in the media and the usual Leftist circles mirrors that of the great Robert Spencer, who was our guest on the latest podcast (here and in the sidebar). In our fast, fascinating and frankly frightening hour's discussion, Spencer sees the writing on wall and can see the fall of the Fifth Republic, a possible coup to remove Macron from office (he still has another two years) and even a complete collapse of France into a state of civil war. In fact, what he envisions bears an uncanny resemblance to the scenario in the novel Bruce Bawer cites above.

An unreconstructed, inflexible totalitarian movement that will brook no quarter and demands either submission or death? The Left just tapped Mohammed on the shoulder and said "Hold my Bud Light!"

Michigan’s 4474 criminalizes hurting someone’s feelings or making the person feel threatened – subjective and arbitrary criteria that are virtually impossible to defend against in court. The two exceptions are if the conduct is constitutionally protected or if it serves a legitimate purpose.

As one might expect, the law is begging Michigan Democrats, who locked down the state and prevented people from buying anything they deemed “non-essential,” to abuse the living daylights out of entire groups of political opponents. In fact, this is the long-term purpose of the law, but first the short-term effects.

Two parts of the bill stand out. First up is the “injury or severe mental anguish” clause. This part of the law basically makes it possible to lock people up for things like pointing out reality. If you’re a culture reporter and published an article calling a man who claims to be a woman a man, that is theoretically grounds for getting five years in the slammer and a $10,000 fine if he protests. Prayed outside an abortion clinic and made a woman feel bad? Go to jail, Merrick Garland has already set the precedent here. Defend yourself against a member of a protected group but happen to utter a slur in the heat of the moment? Too bad. The bill doesn’t consider circumstances.

The bill can definitely become a double-edged sword for Whitmer and her legions of doom. Since having fat pedophiles dressed up as demons twerking in front of religious kids certainly can fall under the harassment on the basis of religion (remember, it’s all about feelings), then Christians who have protested porn and drag in schools should be able to use the law for good. . .

. . . Enter the insidious “legitimate purpose clause” – the way the Michigan Democrats will decide which conduct qualifies as felonious and which one doesn’t. If parents complain and file a complaint on the basis of religion against porn in schools or drag queens, will the state say that showing kids porn or exposing them to sexualized drag shows serves the legitimate purpose of fighting homophobia and transphobia? We’ve already seen the corporate press make such claims. Could the teachers and drag queens then accuse the parents of harassing them on the basis of sexual identity and counter-charge them? In Whitmer’s Michigan, we all know the answer. . .

. . . While it gets fought out in court, let’s explore where a Michigan Democrat with Merrick Garland’s Bolshevik impulses could take this law down the road. Christianity is no doubt a threat to transgenderism. The religion cannot coexist – no matter how hard libertarians try to say otherwise – with an ideology that is dedicated to destroying everything they believe. Once Michigan’s Democrats decide that simply being a Christian and expressing constitutionally-protected Christian teachings intimidates LGBT individuals or anyone else the state protects, get ready. Because when they’ve reached the point of targeting entire groups, it’s not going to be five years in a state penitentiary – it’s going to be a one-way ticket to some remote corner of the Upper Peninsula where no one ever sees you again. This logic can be applied to walking while black in a liberal white area or any other situation where there may be a perceived threat. Read your Soviet history for more on how this ends.

To use a well-known Ace of Spades commenter meme, "Isn't this really the story of Sharia and blasphemy laws?" Nina Jankowicz in a burqa with her Acme/Achmed Joy-Buzzer Clipper FTW!

Psaki-Psircling back to France, along with the Muslims, the usual Antifa and other Leftists thugs are getting in on the action, either ad hoc so as not to let a good crisis go to waste, or via a coordinated alliance with the Religion of Peace Peaceniks. As an aside, I meant to ask Robert Spencer his opinion of the residents of Hamtramck suddenly waving the American flag in our common rage against the rainbow fag flag. Just another taqqiya sunrise, I suspect he might conclude.

Be that as it may, I mentioned on the podcast, Islam and Leftism are essentially two sides of the same coin. In fact, aside from the pretty calligraphy and geometric patterns, as well as a 1,500 year history of butchery, both have a lot of things in common. Most especially, the ultimate goal of establishing some sort of paradise on earth. To do so, they must destroy the common enemy of Judeo-Christian civilization and the mostly peaceful (kind of a pun intended) advancement of human society and development.

While I was encouraged earlier in the week of reports of citizens rounding up and hogtying some of these rioters and handing them over to the police, I asked Robert on the podcast what he felt about the psyche and character of the average Frenchman in physically fighting back and trying to save their nation. Sadly, he was not so sanguine about it.

And that of course begs the question of whither the character and psyche of the average American? We'll probably have the answer to that soon enough. God help us.

Have a good weekend. See you tomorrow for the hobby thread. Be there. Aloha.

15 I'm working on a theory. I'm always curious why people publicly do things that seem to be against their best interest. In this case, why arrest Trump, when you have an election fraud machine that guarantees you will win the next election? Seems unnecessary and a potential risk that you don't need to take.

My theory is that they are doing it purposely to help Trump in the primaries. It has had the effect of solidifying Trump support, and he is likely to win the nomination on Super Tuesday if current polling is correct and holds.

The second part of the theory is that they believe that the country will accept another stolen election as long as it is stolen from Trump.

FWIW Rasmussen is finding close to 80% of Republicans and majority of Independents think 2020 was stolen.

It could well happen, especially because the French - unlike, say, the Germans - have so much to lose. France is the *one* Western European country that might survive what's coming. France alone has a big enough country, demography that isn't past the point of no return, a strong enough non-urban population, a powerful enough economy and robust enough cultural pride to fight.

The only thing they are lacking is will, and existential threats not only to their country but to their entire culture, religion and way of life might - but only might - galvanize them. France - like its European neighbors and the United States - has a deep and widening rural/urban divide, which is part of this same conflict. Civil war is possible, but it will be part of the overall conflict.

I think it's a couple of things.

1) it's a predictable and unavoidable stage after a coup, same as looting the treasury

B) it's a way to setup their "increased turnout" BS that justifies their numbers inserted from cheating, same as the red-mirage "trump said pussy" nonsense and "roe vs wade got women voters to turn out in record numbers to codify inflation and a rotten economy because of abortion" silliness. This will be "no one wanted a convicted criminal elected president, and that's why Joe got 179M votes this time."

Oh, good grief. C'mon. That isn't how any of this works, and the author *must* know that. These "laws" are not uniformly enforced or interpreted. That's precisely the opposite of they work and how they're designed to work. Law is gossamer thin and more fragile than a nascent spiderweb for some and an iron cage for others.

Maj. Robert Bourgeau was awarded the Soldier's Medal for his actions on 4 July last year at the Mermaid's Grotto. The locale is a popular swim and dive spot but it is also dangerous. Bourgeau was there to SCUBA dive but called it off because of conditions. That is when he noticed a Japanese woman and then her daughter who were in distress from the rip current. Disregarding his own safety Maj. Bourgeau proceeded to rescue the woman, her daughter, and an Army soldier. Alas there was still a death, the creator of the Yu-Gi-Oh manga tried to assist but was killed. Kazuki Takahashi's body was recovered two days later.

Which is why the left and Islam are allies of convenience. They have the same enemy and so the left will use Islam as a cudgel and the Islam will use the left to justify their violence and sow self-loathing and guilt among their mutual victims.

Where the left is going to be very sorry, however, is the world immediately after they win (assuming they do, of course. I think they will, but that is by no means guaranteed). When Islam immediately steamrolls and destroys them, they will learn quite quickly that theirs was the briefest of Pyrrhic victories.

I don't think they have enough confidence in their ability to cheat again. Everyone knows what to look out for this time. Judicial Watch is doing a good job of forcing counties to purge their rolls of deceased voters or those who have moved. They found and purged nearly 80,000 in a couple of counties in my state of PA. You know how razor thin PA was in 2020.

Not that I'm 100% optimistic, because Arizona just showed some new and novel ways to cheat.

I'm skeptical of those who say our COVID response was some dark plan to destroy the US. I do think that it was the usual way the government respond to emergencies. Don't have a plan, run around like a chicken with its head cut off, enact foolish and counterproductive policies, get comfortable with the power they afford, then reap the benefits as they ossify into permanence.

First when the Germans reoccupied the Rhine. And then in the early days of the Polish invasion; France actually invaded the Rhine, milled around for a bit, and then retreated back to the Maginot Line.

57 I'm working on a theory. I'm always curious why people publicly do things that seem to be against their best interest. In this case, why arrest Trump, when you have an election fraud machine that guarantees you will win the next election? Seems unnecessary and a potential risk that you don't need to take.

My theory is that they are doing it purposely to help Trump in the primaries...
---
A competing theory is that they are drunk with power and completely insane regarding anything related to Trump. They've misunderestimated him time and time again and it's intolerable, so they will do *anything* to put him away for life. Even it means perp-walking him to a gallows on the White House lawn.

Just 3 years ago pretty much everyone (there were a few exceptions but pretty tiny percentage-wise) laid down and locked themselves in their house and wore the face muzzle in public over the sniffles. I saw very little evidence of widespread backbone…. We make fun of the frogs after WWII but don’t think our Lloyd Austin led military would compare favorably to the US military circa early 1941 (even as depleted as it was then it contained a Marshall, an Ike and a Patton…. And a MacArthur)

This is why the recent ruling out of Missouri is less important than it looks. Thanks to the ideological uniformity of industry and the peppering of IC assets and former high-level government officials throughout industry, they've achieved the condition where they don't really *need* to give orders.

The "Working Toward the Fuhrer" concept does the job. As the Minister of Agriculture put it at the time:
Everyone who has the opportunity to observe it knows that the Fuhrer can hardly dictate from above everything which he intends to realize sooner or later. On the contrary, up till now, everyone with a post in the new Germany has worked best when he has, so to speak, worked towards the Fuhrer. Very often and in many spheres, it has been the case ... that individuals have simply waited for orders and instructions. ... But anyone who really works towards the Fuhrer along his lines and towards his goal will certainly both now and in the future, one day have the finest reward in the form of the sudden legal confirmation of his work.

I think the word went out that Trump's fair game for any and all potential misdeeds.

He's fairly clean from a business perspective. The left went after him using that tactic and failed. So, now they're using any and all perceived crimes, real or made up, to hamstring his presidential run.

Eventually. ESG is still at the forefront but it's sibling DEI is starting to be on the outs. Too many people have noticed how destructive DEI is for organizations. It sows unhappiness and poor productivity and increases turnover. It makes virtually *everyone* feel excluded and it forces the organization's population into warring factions that are unified in their fight against the white man but also in a circular firing squad otherwise. It's wildly destructive and too many have noticed.

So now it's all about "belonging" at the leading-edge organizations. DEI is dead and "Belonging Initiatives" are here.

They were brought here for two reasons.

Reason one is that the people doing it perceive - probably correctly - that if there's a kid with an adult, neither will be deported. I suspect this is the majority reason by numbers.

Reason two is that they're being brought here as slaves. Literal slaves, for sale. I suspect this is the majority reason by revenue.

In both cases, the kids have probably been kidnapped or purchased from their parents.

Blowing hot air from a lectern won't make a wave.
Winning in 2024 is going to require a completely bonkers, absolutely wall-to- wall, endless relentless attacks from 100 million directions: Millions of followers unleashed in every direction. And, even with all that, a campaign that blows through and ignores any and all campaign laws in the last 120 days.

227 "I never understood the popularity of The Beatles."

Combination of things. They were a boy band that captured the hearts of baby boomer teen girls. They took black R&B like Chuck Berry and made it white (like Elvis). But their biggest influence arguably was Broadway show tunes.

And then they became song writers. Elvis didn't write. They tapped into the zeitgeist of the 60s which they helped create.

And they were good musicians. Paul became one of the absolute best bass players of all time.

It's like I've watched a completely different movie! Latest was an old 1970s flick with Chuck Connors I saw called Tourist Trap. I renamed it Tourist Crap. It was barely watchable, despite his presence. But oh boy, the IMDBers thought it was the second coming. Magnificent. Spine chilling. It was trash, pure and simple, from every metric I know.

387 Never forget that the immigration in Europeis encouraged because governments there simply do not want to engage in the agile conversation with their citizens about their welfare states. It costs a lot of money to pamper and baby their citizens, and honestly, maybe if their citizens paid for some services all by themselves, they could afford to raise children in their own, making the encouragement of immigration from parts of the world with cultures alien from those of Europe completely unnecessary. But nope! And you see what they get.

One of the great fictions we've been brainwashed into accepting is that the CPUSA was just a bunch of idealistic liberals ("The Romance of American Communism"). Whereas really they didn't twitch a finger except on orders from Moscow. They changed party lines at the drop of a hat, purged members and spied for Stalin.

It's all of a piece. One reason I say that Islam will come to be the dominant civilization in the Northern Hemisphere soon, and for a very long time - the main reason - is that our civilizations, from China back around to America, offer their people ruthless authoritarian domination, just like Islam. But unlike Islam, there is no spiritual or or cultural or intellectual component, just materialism. And they fail to deliver on that materialism more every year.

But even if they could deliver on it - man doesn't live by bread alone, and iPhones and Meta pods and Soylent infusions are a poor substitute for a spiritual life, cultural identity, and a sense of purpose. That is why Islam will beat us all.

487 >>Education is just a redistribution of wealth scheme. Of course it is. It gets 40%+ of state budgets.

Hell, we learned that the first day of our kid's kindergarten when the teacher pooled all the kids school supplies and redistributed some, kept others for communal use. That is SOP in public elementary schools.

Ah...morning drinking!

I usually start with a Bloody Mary, but there is a fine argument to be made for bourbon to kick-start the day.

well, you can't day drink if you don't start in the morning...

Excellent. 75 is "it's too warm in here" for me, but I'm glad it's working!

One thing for which I am eternally grateful to my realtor is her encyclopedic knowledge of local tradesmen and who to avoid, who to pay extra for, who is worth waiting for, etc.

My A/C and roofing companies and my handyman were all her recommendations and she was spot on with all of them. Her deep local knowledge and years of experience working with them through her clients makes her knowledge base better than anything that any online service could ever hope to replicate.

496 Good morning, all, and thank you, J.J.

Fox News: Experts baffled by White House invoking Hatch Act to dodge Hunter cocaine question: 'ridiculous.' In part,
"White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates was asked during a Thursday press gaggle whether the president can deny that he or his son owned the cocaine found at the White House – a charge leveled by former President Donald Trump. "... Bates invoked the Hatch Act — legislation that prohibits federal employees from talking about or using federal resources for campaign purposes..." What? Wasn't Bates also among the 51 that signed the laptop was BS? If the cocaine is H's, wouldn't that screw up his pending plea agreement?

IMHO the UN/US 2030 sustainable development goals are both scary ambitious & nebulous. Now there's also health dot gov 'Healthy People 2030.' "Healthy People 2030 provides hundreds of evidence-based resources to help you address public health priorities." It could be good but, IM well over 29 yr old mind, public health & C19=lockdown, ventilators, etc. & lots gender involvement.

Seems J.J. mangled the first link after the words "Personal appeal".

However, there's a second link to the tip jar at the end of the post, and that works. It takes you to the CutJib newsletter site, where you'll find a blue donate button.

If you use NoScript in your browser, be sure to allow stripe.com and stripe.network sites otherwise you'll get an error when pressing the donate button.
