Daily Tech News 5 July 2023

Top Story

  • Ace already hit on this one but the top tech story of the day is undeniably a federal judge's injunction against fascists doing fascist stuff, specifically, censoring the speech of non-fascists. (Washington Post)

(Don't worry, that link goes to an archive site, not to the Post itself.)

The argument in favour of fascism is extraordinary.
The Trump-appointed judge's move could upend years of efforts to enhance coordination between the government and social media companies.
Yes, that's the point. That's illegal.
A federal judge on Tuesday blocked key Biden administration agencies and officials from meeting and communicating with social media companies about "protected speech," in an extraordinary preliminary injunction in an ongoing case that could have profound effects on the First Amendment.
Note that they have protected speech in scare quotes, and describe a straightforward enforcement of First Amendment protections as "extraordinary".

And yes, it could have profound effects on the First Amendment. It upholds it, when Journalists for Censorship has expended so much effort into tearing it down.
The Donald Trump-appointed judge's move could undo years of efforts to enhance coordination between the government and social media companies. For more than a decade, the federal government has attempted to work with social media companies to address criminal activity, including child sexual abuse images and terrorism.

Over the past five years, coordination and communication between government officials and the companies increased as the federal government responded to rising election interference and voter suppression efforts after revelations that Russian actors had sowed disinformation on U.S. social sites during the 2016 election. Public health officials also frequently communicated with the companies during the coronavirus pandemic, as falsehoods about the virus and vaccines spread on social networks including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Note the desperate attempt to conflate crimes by other people - child porn and terrorism - with crimes by the government - the systemic censorship of protected speech.
"The injunction is strikingly broad and clearly intended to chill any kind of contact between government actors and social media platforms," said Evelyn Douek, an assistant professor at Stanford Law School.
    Yes. That's the point.
For years, Republicans have argued that social media companies' policies to address disinformation related to elections and public health have resulted in the unfair censorship of their political views. Meanwhile, Democrats have argued that the companies have not gone far enough in policing their services to ensure they do not undermine democratic institutions.
The Democrat position being that it's not happening and we need more of it.
"Deep state" refers the unsubstantiated idea, frequently invoked by Trump, that a group of bureaucrats is working to undermine elected officials to shape government policy.
Oh, not entirely. Those bureaucrats are entirely happy with the current circus who barely need prompting to do their bidding.

Why does everybody call the use of quotes as in Pixy's top story above "scare" quotes? Wouldn't "sarcasm" quotes or "ironic" quotes be better? (Yeah, those are longer to type.)

9 If there's one thing fascists fear, it's injunctive relief. If someone had just thought to get an injunction against Hitler, WWII could have been averted.

Judge: "It is hereby ordered, adjudged, and decreed that you stop Hitlering, Herr Hitler."

Hitler: "Oh, darn it all! I already planned out an entire genocide. But you have a piece of paper saying I must stop violating the laws I'm violating. So, you got me."

10 Hunter Biden's Sweetheart Plea Deal:

A big lefty talking point, trying to prove there is no favoritism, is the Fed prosecutor is a holdover from the Trump Administration. So how could there possibly be bias?

Well, unlike the media, that got me curious.

Gone unmentioned in the 'holdover' talking point is that both US senators from a state propose to the new Admin a candidate for US AG. DE has two lefty Dem senators.

Biden fired all Trump prosecutors but this guy in DE. Now why was he retained? Well, he had worked for William Freeh, former head of the FBI and who has ties to Hunter's 'overseas business ventures'.

So more media lies of omission. Now you know the rest of the 'no favoritism in Hunter's plea deal' story.

22 These American fascists always lens the world with Trump appointed [fill in the blank] as that is the spit in the palm of the hand before they give each other the double secret censorship handshake. These fascists are so tin earred that they cannot hear the utter nonsense of their position: we must censor speech to protect freedom of speech! This judge has done us all a lifetime of hero's work; may many more follow in this judge's wake. The stakes here are as high as they can be; left unchecked these fascist are but moments away from the logical end of protecting their speech by arresting everyone they disagree with and making them disappear. There are ample examples in history to prove this true. What we are in the midst of is a fascist insurgency which not only seeks to eradicate the American Constitution but left unchecked would reach back to the very foundations of western civilization and obliterate that too. The 20th century ideological wars did not end with the fall of the Berlin Wall. Instead these fascists picked up their mortar and bricks and moved on to engage again here. May this judge's work mark this insurgency's high water, it's bloody angle if you will.

32 I find publications like Ace of Spades, to name but one, are the equivalent of the pamphleteers during the American revolution. They are an essential grassroots rally point against the growing tyranny that is spreading throughout the United States. If these fascists are successful in obliterating the first amendment, you can be sure the first place they will turn next is to pave over these grassroot rally points. The consequences of that are quite clear.

Public health officials also frequently communicated with the companies during the coronavirus pandemic, as falsehoods about the virus and vaccines spread on social networks including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

I've mentioned this before but when the 'vaccine' was about to be distributed I went to DDG and punched in 'Covid' and 'Vaccine' and the top result was not from the USA but from Australia. You see, in the year 2002 there was a fairly unreported covid outbreak and in the ensuing years research was underway to find a vaccine. I have a sneaky suspicion our government did not want anyone here to see the 20 years of failure which predated the sudden 'success'.

It wasn't just a tiny little bit of failure but time after time the vaccine resulted in VAED - or vaccine associated enhanced disease. So thanks to Australia and the Australian Institute of Virology I said, "Hell NO!" to Fauci's little money making scheme.

My 'fuck this COVID-1984 Dempanic scare tactic bullshit' was early on. Since this disease was so 'deadly', I wondered where all the homeless bodies were that surely must be piling up somewhere? Because if any segment of the population was not going to wash their hands a gazillion times a day nor have a basic diet or hygiene (including the wearing of masks), it's the homeless. But, no, those piles of dead homeless never appeared in any city, even those with a serious homeless problem. Funny that. That's when I knew every emergency decree was bullshit.

75 I just wanted to share a sweet story about someone in our church. As people know, our beloved elderly organist, Jessie, has been having health issues . One of the things she is affected by is diverticulitis- so there are all kinds of things which she can't eat including seeds. Last week we had a luncheon after church. One of our members who is a very good cook made beef brisket to put on rolls. Most of the rolls had sesame seeds. However, I heard the woman say to Jessie, "I made a couple of rolls without seeds for you because I know that you can't eat them." I just thought that was very thoughtful of her.

Because there is an outbreak of Kovid in France.

Checking the source I looked at thru the pandemic and it shows basically no increases in the past 6 months.

There were riders that weren't able to continue in the Giro de Italia because of Kovid. Yet I see nothing for Italy at that time either.

Someone is making kovid krap up again.
Or...the press are the carriers of kovid.

The Pennsylvania state liquor stores were closed for 10 weeks. When they reopened they had one way arrows everywhere, circles on the floor six feet apart for waiting in line, and plexiglass barriers that you could barely slide a bottle under. 122 Amid the turmoil after George Floyd’s murder by police in 2020, Netflix sought to address racist depictions in its film and television library in its own, particularly on-brand way.
Netflix, by contrast, sought to expand its successful nonfiction series “Explained,” produced by Vox Media, into that sensitive space.
In early 2021, the company contracted with Vox to create a series of videos that would run alongside movies or television shows featuring racist or stereotypical caricatures.
The videos would explain topics like the use of blackface and “yellowface” in Hollywood, as well as the depiction of native Americans in classic films and westerns.

Reports indicate that Biden and his cronies paid $1 per test kit for 100,000 kits at a time. We know, however, that only 400 million covid test kits were purchased by the regime, the first batch being 300 million followed by an additional 100 million.

Simple math shows that at $1 a pop, this should have costed Americans no more than $400 million, as the more one buys of something the cheaper it gets per unit due to bulk discounts. So, what happened to the other $600 million that the Biden allegedly forked over to communist China for these test kits?

161 "WE DIDN'T KNOW, OKAY?!!! SHUT UP!
- Police, again, after seeing it all over facebook and getting multiple calls"

Well, to be fair, For example, Baltimore owns several Foxtrot (AKA GhettoBird) helo's.

Some weeks ago, when the city yutes broke into a closed city owned public pool for an unsanctioned pool party, Police sent a Helo overhead to announce that the yutes needed to vacate the area.

This started claims that the Racyst Po-Po were using aircraft to terrorize and intimidate these innocent young folks who were just trying to enjoy some good clean fun.

Several weeks later, after the Police stopped using helo's to maintain overmatch on the high crime areas, a crowd of about 20 teenagers broke into a closed Baltimore city public pool during school hours for another unsanctioned pool party.

First teen who dove into the pool failed to surface. Apparently none of the other children were trained in water rescue, and at last report the victim was unresponsive, and on life support.

But hey, at least there was no intimidation by any of the GhettoBirds, right?

Good golly....

I think in raw numbers, Baltimore has had more shot, AND more killed in July than Chicago has.

That's a staggering accomplishment for a city who's population has dwindled to below 600K folks in recent years.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Ukraine is the epicenter of child porn, gay adoption, child molestation and abuse. Which is why it needs to be defended so vigorously - in the eyes of the left.

It was only when Russia cut off the adoption pipeline to the US gay community that they became so evil. Overnight.

193 The worst part for me is knowing that, similar to the HQ and Trump vs Desantis when the folks *just* watched the election stolen in front of their own eyes, if the government says there's a cold virus and people need to wear masks, people will put their masks back on. Even though they know they don't work, and even though they remember their feelings when they finally got the guts to remove them.

Because they got the guts to remove them. If they didn't, they'd still be wearing them.

But they'll put them back on in a heartbeat. I guess that's just how people work. Oh, and a Republican can win in 2024.

During our recent two month stay at Walter Reed, the premier military medical facility in the world, I was amazed and dismayed by the casual tossing of not just trash, but used masks onto the grounds of the facility.

It's true that our military is a cross section of America.

and it showed.
