Hand grind those beans. I started that after my 2nd electric grinder died on me. The first, cheaper, one had lasted a good long while; but the second one that was supposedly a good brand gave up the ghost after only a couple of years.
Plus manual grinder plus liking the french press coffee means I can have coffee if the electricity is out, just fire up the grill or the propane stovetop in my trailer to heat up the water. Posted by: PaleRider at July 02, 2023 02:05 PM (3cGpq) 6

Grind coffee. Put unopened grinder in a paper grocery sack, large enough to contain the grinder and your hands. Open grinder in bag. Bag captures flying coffee particles. Remove grinder from bag and make coffee. After enjoying coffee, shake or brush coffee particles out of bag, after one or many uses - do this in a 30+ gallon trash can or out in your yard or garden. Not into a kitchen-size or smaller trash bin, to avoid making the mess you don't want anyway.

I'm still pecking away at my FWP of too much stuff. I have gotten rid of a lot of junk. If I tidily boxed up what remains it wouldn't look bad but there is still a lot of culling that needs to happen so I am using "I don't want things out of sight out of mind" as my rational to be lazy about tidying. My brain will only handle a few decisions about stuff at a time so I'd end up just boxing and shelving everything instead of doing the necessary sorting if I tried to do it all at once.

If you are observing a ban on atomic devices from Terminus then perhaps try a piezoelectric crystal device. Applying stress to the crystal creates an electric field. This also ionizes the air to allow the static electric charge to dissipate. Search for ZEROSTAT on Amazon . . . Black granite is not granite. Diorite, or gabbro.

Posted by: LenNeal at July 02, 2023 02:38 PM I don't remember, <$100 but still expensive, this was in the early 80s. I've used it to grind my coffee beans every day that I'm home and it runs like a champ. The bottom skirt of the lid is chipped, but the paper filter takes care of the residue. I remember a period when he was working for a large dealership who got a new Office Boy put in charge. Office Boy decided that the mechanics would look "more professional" if they wore white coveralls rather than the previous traditional dark blue. That worked about as well as you'd expect. They looked "more professional" for about 5 minutes at the beginning of the shift, tops. Not just engine gunk, but all the other nameless filth that a backhoe or dozer routinely deals with (sewage, whatever). I use a Capresso grinder, and had the same problem with grounds. I ended up leaving the grounds in the bin long enough for the static electricity to leak away (30 minutes or so), then put the grounds into a glass canister (from Williams-Sonoma) with a seal ring that "exhausts" the air above the coffee to provide a vacuum seal. There's still some spray from the grinder, but it's a lot more manageable...

An India rubber rod and a piece of cat fur should solve the problem. Rub your rod vigorously with the fur, then touch it to the grinder. If the problem gets worse, rub your rod vigorously again, and touch the fur to the grinder. One or the other should work.
Note that these are the old-school materials. I’m really not sure where my high school physics instructor (a Benedictine monk) got the cat fur, and I never asked. Silk and a glass rod should work fine, if cat fur is not available in your area. Posted by: Bruce at July 03, 2023 06:28 AM (Z3b7j) 248
