AP: You Know, Threats of Impeachment and Criminal Investigation Shouldn't Just Be Used to Express Disapproval of Your Political Opponents... Republicans

Really?

Are you kidding me right now?

After two impeachments and four prosecutions of Trump -- including a dozen people or more in his circle, including his valet -- the AP is now scolding the GOP for threatening impeachment against Merrick Garland?!

WASHINGTON (AP) -- House Republicans have held it over Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for months. Attorney General Merrick Garland is facing it too. And President Joe Biden seemingly isn't far behind.

Driven by the demands of hard-right members

I've got a hard-right member for you right here, Sunshine.

Republicans in the House are threatening impeachment against Biden and his top Cabinet officials, creating a backbeat of chatter about "high crimes and misdemeanors" that is driving legislative action, spurring committee investigations, raking in fundraising money and complicating the plans of Speaker Kevin McCarthy and his leadership team.

Long viewed as an option of last resort, to be triggered only for the most severe wrongdoing, the constitutionally authorized power of impeachment is rapidly moving from the extraordinary to the humdrum, driven in large part by Republicans and their grievances about how Democrats twice impeached President Donald Trump.

Note that the AP refuses to say these impeachments are driven by Democrats' wielding impeachment and political prosecution as weapons.

No, it's driven by Republicans and their "grievances" about the Democrats impeaching Trump.

It might also have something to do with Merrick Garland repeatedly lying to Congress.

Or is that RUSSIAN DISINFORMATION?!

Republicans remain so opposed to Trump's impeachments, in fact, that they are pressing for votes to expunge the charges altogether -- an attempt to clear his name that is without direct precedent in congressional history.

"We're seeing a generation of Republicans who are much more willing to test the boundaries of how much you can weaponize procedures," said Julian Zelizer, a Princeton University historian and political scientist.

Am I dreaming? Am I hallucinating?

...

McCarthy on Sunday made Garland the latest target of a potential impeachment investigation as Republicans examine how the Department of Justice handled the prosecution of Hunter Biden for federal tax offenses. It capped a tumultuous week in which hard-right Republicans forced a vote to send articles of impeachment against Biden to a committee for investigation and also voted to censure Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff for his remarks and actions during the 2017 investigation into Trump's ties to Russia.

Some Republicans are pushing for yet another censure action, this time against Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson for his leadership of the House committee that investigated the Jan. 6 insurrection.

In the past, lawmakers have reserved censure, a punishment one step below expulsion, for grave misconduct. When former Rep. Charles Rangel, a New York Democrat, was censured in 2010 on a bipartisan vote for ethics violations, then-speaker Nancy Pelosi solemnly summoned him to the well of the House, where censured members must stand as the resolution is read in a moment of public shaming.

"We really tried hard to put aside the partisan considerations because we knew how sharp and potent the weapon (of censure) was," said former Rep. Steve Israel, Democrat of New York, who was among Pelosi's closest confidantes. "This thing used to be rare. Now, it's in every cycle, in breaking news."

This is gaslighting of an entirely new kind. They're willing you to forget the past six years.

...

The fervor in the House for doling out punishment shows no signs of breaking -- in part because lawmakers are reaping the media attention and fundraising dollars that are steadily replacing committee chairmanships as the locus of power in the House.

There was partisanship or thirst for attention with the Democrats' endless impeachments, of course. Or Adam Schiff's serial lies.

...

Yet there's a risk that Republicans' appetite for using the punishment powers could easily escalate into a more serious test of whether Congress is legitimately wielding power -- and nowhere does that possibility loom larger than when it comes to Biden.

Some Republicans, however, view it as a question of when, not if, Biden is impeached. Floor debate on the resolution took on the air of a dress rehearsal, as Democrats and Republicans debated whether Biden has committed "high crimes and misdemeanors" with his handling of border and immigration policy.

Only three other presidents in U.S. history have been impeached -- Andrew Johnson, Bill Clinton and Trump, though none were convicted by the Senate. Should Republicans decide to make Biden the fourth, a system of checks and balances created by the framers could face a test like never before.

Your Regime Media, everyone.

Trust them. They lie constantly, they lie stupidly, they lie insanely -- and they're here to tell you what is Truth and what is Lie.

And they'll deplatform, debank, de-employ and dehumanize you if you dare to notice their lies.

Jazz Shaw looked up this particular Regime propagandist's articles about the Democrats' never-ending impeachments.

Would you be awfully surprised to hear he was rather a fan of those?

This is a curious argument to make when you consider the source. Both Groves and most of the Associated Press have previously been big fans of impeachment at both the federal and state levels. He's previously written what seemed like an endorsement of the idea of impeaching South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, who by what I'm sure is a total coincidence, happens to be a Republican. A quick search of Associated Press articles from the runup to the 2022 elections will reveal a vast list of times that the impeachment of Donald Trump (twice!) is referenced with nary a complaint about those circus acts.

The pendulum is swinging back. There are currently 25 States that have constitutional carry. When I joined the Army way back in the day there was only one State that allowed their citizens to go about their business armed without a permit. SCOTUS has affirmed the 2nd amendment applies to individuals and not the "militia".

The *right* to abortion has been returned to the States, exactly where the constitution says it should have been from day one. Codified discrimination is finally dead. AA has been ruled illegal.

SCOTUS has upheld individual 1st amendment rights and ruled that State laws forcing people to do or say things they disagree with are illegal.

It may not seem like it, but we are winning. And a huge percentage of that winning can be tied directly to donald trump.

On July 25, 2019, as a United States Army lieutenant colonel detailed to the National Security Council, I witnessed a telephone call between then-President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

During that call, President Trump pressured President Zelensky to investigate then-former Vice President Joe Biden as a quid pro quo to continue receiving United States military aid. I was shocked.

I saw this for what it was: a blatant abuse of power, and political blackmail to aid President Trump in the 2020 election. Compare that to "refuse to go woke, get fired immediately" where our sides loses far more but at least justice will eventually be served to the liars.

Another good point in history. Lee wouldn't listen to me either, but I'd tell him to just wait. For that matter, I'd tell Jefferson Davis to just wait. There was no need to go on the offensive against the Union. Just wait Lincoln out - he was busy undermining himself. And don't sweat those ships at Sumter. Keep your powder dry, and not used.
Posted by: Still The Same at July 03, 2023 05:58 PM (XnFBL)

Well that's the gamble. If there'd been no shooting, there's a good chance a lot of states might have cooled off and rejoined the Union.

Frankly, if the South had gone aggressive, they might have outright won their independence via force of arms. Hell Sharpsburg was only a Union 'victory' because one of Lee's orders got used as a cigar wrapper by some fucknut who then lost it and it ended up in McClellan's hands.

I'm not buying it.

A. DC was extensively fortified by the summer of 63
B. Even if Lee had captured and burned DC like the British, the war would have continued. Grant had just taken Vicksburg and split the South. Armies would still have moved from the West into the Confederacy.

Yup. Their decisive surface battle plan was to cut the US main battle fleet down to size using coordinated mass torpedo attacks by destroyers and light cruisers, then their heavy cruisers would attack and destroy the outnumbered USN heavy cruiser force with torpedoes and gunfire, then it would be a battleship slugfest for the win, with surviving IJN heavy cruisers helping out with gunfire and torpedo reloads. The ships of the IJN beginning in the late 20s were designed for this battle plan. Many torpedo tubes on all of the light ships, with fast reload capability. The Yamato class was designed to be qualitatively superior to any battleship class the Japanese foresaw the US building in the late 30s and early 40s.
