Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Consolidate Our Win, Let Abortion Be A State Matter, And Take It Off The National StageThe pro-life movement won a great battle with the Dobbs decision that pushed abortion back to the states. The Democrat party used the decision as a tremendous hook to increase contributions for the 2022 midterm elections, and used it as a cudgel with which to beat vulnerable candidates in swing districts. That, combined with feckless Republican efforts and outright sabotage (Screw you Lindsey Graham!) and even more outright cheating led to a pathetic showing in those elections. But the hysteria whipped up by the fearmongering abortion cheerleaders has calmed down, and it is no longer front-and-center in the consciousness of chardonnay-swilling soccer moms and their soi-boys who vote the way their wives tell them. 'Rage giving' prompted by the end of Roe has dropped off, abortion access groups say And this is a very big deal. Despite the clear and unambiguous support for restrictions on abortions, the Democrat party uses its formidable organizational skill to target voters in swing districts, and abortion is a tremendous tool to motivate them. But if it isn't a hot topic, then there is less for the Democrat apparatus to use to get these voters to the polls. Is the war over? No...of course not. The ghouls who relish the power of abortion to destroy traditional society will never give it up as a tool. But we have won a great battle, and it is the American people who are now deciding the fate of abortion in the states. It is time to stop the national rhetoric and take away this powerful tool from the Democrats. Is that distasteful? Yes, it is, but politics can never be pure, and as important as the abortion issue is for the soul of our country, we must look to the long term. Sefton and Joe Mannix and I discussed this on the last CJN podcast, and Sefton gave a powerful dissent. I agree with him about abortion in general, but there are other battles to be fought in the interim so that we can win the abortion war!Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Posted by: tcn in AK, Hail to the Thief at June 25, 2023 03:21 PM (LOVUx) Abortion and gun control are very similar, in that both sides have people who don't want to publicly announce what is the natural conclusion of their arguments. If you believe in gun control, the optimal number of gubs in public hands is zero. If you are anti-abortion, the optimal number of abortions is zero. Where we should take the pro-life argument at this point is not in the legislatures, but in the living rooms. Politicians can only do so much. For those who are pro-life, we have to do the long, hard work of convincing the public, not them. In a way, I take heart in the global warming movement. In 30 years, it went from fringe to mainstream. We need to do the same thing, in the same way they did. Posted by: Darrell Harris at June 25, 2023 04:08 PM (UNgCA) 80

I am surprised you did not know that. In the last Gallup poll 69% polled said that abortion should be legal in all or almost all cases on the first 3 months. Anti abortionists will be forced to determine when it becomes murder and who should be prosecuted if it is murder
Posted by: Paul at June 25, 2023 04:12 PM (SGZy2) Procuring an abortion is a mortal sin, which until recently could only be forgiven by the Bishop. I don't know aobut "later Christians," but if you mean Protestants, more power to you. They are anti-Catholic for the most part, so I wouldn't doubt they would allow that abortion was not some kind of sin, but I doubt it. I do not believe any Christians would say abortion is a-okay. I argued with a “law” prefesser once about this. She be saying the U S constitutional guaranteed the right to “privacy” and which was why abortion was a federal issue. I done did admonished her illiterate ass that there was no ‘“right to privacy” in da federales constitutional but that there are in some State constitutions, granting more freedom as it be. Abortion should have never been a federal question.
She gave me a “D” in her class for being a loud mouth honky. Posted by: Hairyback Guy at June 25, 2023 04:15 PM (R/m4+) 88
I'm not wiling to live in a socialist country to tilt at windmills on this issue. Especially since I'm not convinced it makes a difference anyway. Even in deep red states, you can't get a statewide abortion ban to pass.
I'm obviously no Trump fan, but I do think he's making the right noises on largely dropping it from national politics and moving on. We have to close the gender gap if we ever want to actually win office. Posted by: Blago at June 25, 2023 04:15 PM (GyG/g) 89
This was called the quickening.
No you idiot. The quickening is when the unborn baby has movement felt by the mother. Improve your reading comprehension as well as your choice of material. Orthodox refer to Psalms 139:13 and Jeremiah 1:5. God very clearly says He knows us before we are born. Posted by: Moki at June 25, 2023 04:16 PM (JrN/x) 90

I don't think abortion is going to be as big an issue in 24 as the left wants it to be.
Posted by: JackStraw ____ We all said that to ourselves in 2022, and I think it was the biggest single factor why Republicans did poorly. We also had some shit Senate candidates. But when you hear someone say "its not gong to be that much of an issue" it usually means your opponent has hit pay dirt. Posted by: Blago at June 25, 2023 04:20 PM (GyG/g) 92

Every national candidate will be forced to say yea or nay to baby murder
And No room in the GOP for RINOs like Charlie who want baby murder allowed in any state 51% blue. Posted by: Paul at June 25, 2023 04:29 PM (SGZy2) 94
>>We all said that to ourselves in 2022, and I think it was the biggest single factor why Republicans did poorly.
We did poorly because the left cheated. You seem to be the only person who doesn't know this. Posted by: JackStraw at June 25, 2023 04:37 PM (ZLI7S) 95
Like climate change the issue and position on abortion is very much age related.
In the under 30 only 11% think it should always or almost always be illegal. It is only when you get to 65* yo that the for and against become near equal percentages Very few females that old feel that an abortion might be needed in their future Most men that age are having ED issues (66%) so are pretty much over worrying about having a fetus from their sperm Posted by: Paul at June 25, 2023 04:49 PM (MdLwq) 96
Best leave to a state-by-state determination. States will get themselves labeled as moral or immoral, and people can live in the ones they choose. Anything that pushes the indecent people into Blue states and gets them out of Red ones. The more we can segregate the nation the better, because it pushes us closer to confrontation before the Left has a chance to marshal their forces and weakens ours with a thousand cuts and insults.
This is just like us keeping our noses out of the business of other nations. Does Zimbabwe have abortion? I don't know and I don't care. Does California have abortion? I think I know and I don't care. Because I would never consider living there again. People have a right to go to hell under their own power. There will always be those on the right that feign moral outrage over this issue who'll continue to throw sand in the gears. It's an overwrought issue that needs to quit being front and center at every debate.
Posted by: Martini Farmer at June 25, 2023 03:29 PM (Q4IgG) The issue of abortion is deeper than "feigned moral outrage." Is a pre-born baby a human person or not? Killing an innocent person is wrong. Abortion entails the killing of an innocent person. Therefore, abortion is wrong. Why were the midterms were such a debacle? The abortion ruling?? No. A huge number of Trump supporters sat it out. Just like we said we would after the GOP stabbed America in the back after the election steal. Trump is the only candidate who has and will take on the most powerful organization in human history - the federal government. Trump 2024.

Democrats:
Told public hated Obamacare, passed it anyway. Suffered massive losses in one election. Regained them and Obamacare is still here. Republicans: Supreme Court finally grants a victory the base has been begging for for decades. Let Dems lie about it with no pushback. Election gets stolen. Decide to surrender on everything and hide in a corner. Posted by: Karen at June 25, 2023 10:31 PM (45rcK) 105
How about actually putting abortion on the national stage inthe first place? Because all I hear is democrats confidently squealing about fertilized eggs while supporting hacking apart newborns with one toe in the womb.

There is a perfect historical precedent to what is going on now. After the Civil War was over, Democrats in the south abused freedmen; disarming them, whipping them, and murdering them.
The 14th Amendment was passed by the Republican Party to address this issue... it specifically said that states could not "deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;"... and moreover, it specifically allowed the Federal government to intervene in these cases: "The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article." This is how President Grant was able to suppress the KKK. It is legal to kill children in the womb in most of the USA; until birth in several states. This is a violation of the 14th Amendment, as well as being unbearably evil. It is appropriate to use the 14th Amendment to protect children from being killed when the states refuse to stop it. Those of you who wish to allow these legal killings to continue should consider that you are a similar position to persons who opposed anti-lynching legislation, because they were afraid of losing votes from those who wanted to kill black people. If you are in doubt about the humanity of a fetus, I recommend that you watch this video of a living, healthy nine week old fetus. It is eye opening.
