Oopsie Daisy Cutter! Pentagon Makes a $6.2 Billion Boner... In Ukraine's Favor

Whoops!

Whoopsie!

No but what they're claiming is that they "overestimated" the value of weapons the Regime sent to Ukraine by $6.2 billion. So now they have an extra $6.2 billion to send to Ukraine.

The Pentagon said Tuesday that it overestimated the value of the weapons it has sent to Ukraine by $6.2 billion over the past two years -- about double early estimates -- resulting in a surplus that will be used for future security packages.

Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said a detailed review of the accounting error found that the military services used replacement costs rather than the book value of equipment that was pulled from Pentagon stocks and sent to Ukraine. She said final calculations show there was an error of $3.6 billion in the current fiscal year and $2.6 billion in the 2022 fiscal year, which ended last Sept. 30.

As a result, the department now has additional money in its coffers to use to support Ukraine as it pursues its counteroffensive against Russia. And it come as the fiscal year is wrapping up and congressional funding was beginning to dwindle.

Well isn't that convenient -- Ukraine needed the money and Congress doesn't want to justify the endless spending on Ukraine, so just like magic, they find $6.2 billion in the Pentagon's couches.

Replacement costs are what they should be using, since that's literally the market value of the equipment.

17 So they wrote off the value of the equipment.

That is an accounting trick. We still have to replace the equipment, the equipment was not used, just stored, so it was just as valuable as the day it was bought.

84 Although the Ukrainian offensive may superficially appear to be the biggest offensive disaster since the Battle of the Somme, the former commander of the U.S. Army in Europe, Ben Hodges, still says that "Ukrainian troops—if sufficiently supported with expanded Western military aid—can break through Russian lines and reach the occupied Crimean Peninsula by the end of the summer".

Just one more wunderwaffen is needed! "But for them to do that, they need long-range precision weapons," Hodges added, listing ATACMS, Gray Eagle drones, "or other weapons systems that can reach further than they can reach right now."

And what are we going to do with these new wunderwaffe? Fire them into Crimea, of course, despite the fact that the Russians have made it clear that firing Western weapons into Crimea would be treated as the same as an attack on Russia proper.

Hodges thinks that we should stop being such sissies about the prospect of nuclear war.

Biden and other Western leaders have been clear in their priority to prevent any direct NATO-Russia conflict and subsequent nuclear exchange. Hodges is among those who believe President Vladimir Putin is bluffing.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is urging House Republicans to vote against a proposal from Representative Lauren Boebert this week.

Republicans have long made their dissatisfaction with President Joe Biden known, with some advocating for impeachment. Earlier this year, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced articles of impeachment, but Boebert took the threat a step further and introduced the articles of impeachment against Biden in a strategic way that would force a floor vote.

Some Republican officials expect the motion to worsen relationships in the Republican Party, and McCarthy is asking the legislators to vote down the proposal when it reaches the House floor.

178 Amusing turn of events - there are about 150,000 Hungarian-speakers in Ukraine, almost all of them adjacent to Hungary in predominately Hungarian-speaking areas.

The Hungarians are pissed at the Ukrainians because they think that the Ukes are disproportionally drafting Hungarian-speakers, and Ukraine has mandated that Ukrainian is the sole language of instruction in schools.

So, the Russians captured about a dozen Hungarian-speaking Ukrainian soldiers, and used the Russian Orthodox Church to turn them over to - Hungary.

The Ukrainians are demanding that Hungary turn over the soldiers to them, but Hungary seems in no hurry to do so.
