Disney's "Chief Diversity Officer" "Exits"

An individual with knowledge of the situation says that Newton will be joining the corporate board of another company soon, and plans to devote more time to her self-owned creative company.

See, it's funny, because he's self-aware about what a One-Note Joke he is.
The world seems to be in as hard a place as it's always been. As a child of the Sixties, watching what happened at the 1968 Democratic Convention, and seeing the police beating those demonstrators -- and those were young white kids -- I learned there's a certain kind of thing that the powers that be don't want us doing. One of them is protesting what they think they want us to do. So, when George Floyd happened, it was great to see all the different faces of kids out there fighting the injustice and what the power was doing once again to keep you from having an open mind or keep you from creating change that is not the change they want made. That part has not changed. In my opinion, it's kind of worse. They used to hide it. Now, they don't hide it anymore! When I grew up in segregation, I knew which white people didn't want to be bothered with me and I knew how they felt about me. I know how the Republicans feel about me now because of what my mindset is. When I see Trump, I see the same rednecks I saw when I was growing up who called me "n*****" and tried to keep me in my place. That's what the Republican Party is to me. They're doing it to young people, gay people. They don't care who you are. If you're not them, you're the enemy.

The best thing about being an executive is that you don't get fired. You get fired, of course, but it's not a bad deal. You get pulled in with your boss and it's delivered pretty straight: "you're gone. You can quit or you can make me fire you. If you quit, you'll get this nice severance package (usually some money and they don't claw back unvested stock, plus they continue you on the payroll so you can retain access to medical benefits) and can go on to somewhere else. If you make me fire you, you get nothing and I will drag your name through the mud and you'll never work again. Now what's it going to be?"
So they resign. Take the money and walk away.

That's a lot of red ink flowing and a ton of downside risk barreling down the pike. Someone's scalp has to be provided. Hers will do. Maybe.

I'm glad for this. Not sarcastically. I'm actually glad.
Disney is a bad actor in our culture. Harm to Disney is a good thing on its own terms. Samuel L. Jackson is extremely charismatic and popular and people like him and they love his portrayal of Nick Fury. He has actual draw.
So having one of the few people left that anyone actually likes come out with an anti-customer screed is going to harm Disney further, and harming Disney is good.

He sat through the whole thing and said he liked it when it was over. I was working in the other room, so I couldn't exactly gauge his reaction realtime.
However, this system of my offering him five movies, of which he is to choose one, as a reward for reading 2 chapters seems to have promise as a way to both get him to read more during the summer and get him to watch more things that I know of and approve of.

If anyone remembers, Netflix put out a shitty failed version of Cowboy Bebop, where half their promotion of it in the start was "Haha white men, we're going to take a character that's clearly a white guy and make him Asian since it's an Anime show from Japan" and then they proceeded to basically state they believe all asians are the same by hiring a mediocre Korean actor instead of someone who's Japanese, since the people running Netflix are apparently racist in all forms.
Well now their push for "anime must have Asian leads" apparently shit the need, as the leaf in this series is a Mexican kid. Guess they only want it to have Asian leads when it means being racist against white people.

Disney is nowhere near bankruptcy. It has a strong asset base and excellent cashflow (and profitability) courtesy of the parks and cruises and of sports (remember, they own ESPN and ABC).
But it is bleeding cash at an alarming rate and is in serious trouble, and they've wrecked their studios. Disney has nothing left in the tank. Disney Animation? Dead. Pixar? Dead. Lucasfilm? Dead. Marvel? Dead. Fox? Mostly dead, although Avatar 3 will be a strong earner since it's mostly already paid for.
They have to get the bleeding under control soon, but they're not anywhere near bankruptcy. They *are* hurting, though, and the pain is worsening. I am thrilled.

Avatar 3 has been delayed about a year. Indy 5 is about to be a mountain of red for the company. The movie studio is supposed to help buoy the parks on down times, provide new IP to help create new attractions, and essentially be the leader for the rest of the company.

Yep. Captain Marvel benefited by being sandwiched between high points of the MCU franchise. If it had been released as part of Phase I or II, it might well have bombed. Or if they had waited until Phase IV, to make her the "Iron Man" of the current storyline, then that would also be a different story.

I don't think so, no. I think stabilization among a few players that are hyper-competitive on price (and inducements to keep customers around) or further fracturing into niche services is more likely than a winner-take-all lone survivor scenario.

Based on how badly they're all doing, I'd say none of them. Netflix is taking massive damage. Few people have Hulu. Disney+ is staggering around. Paramount+ is limping along.

Worst case I imagine, the motor driving the propulsion system or screw probably failed which caused it to drift into something that damaged the ballast tanks, preventing it from surfacing.

Yeah he's one of those guys who hates white people and blames them for all his woes, presuming everyone is racist against him at all times. He's not old enough to play that card. Him being a really popular and massively wealthy superstar sort of negates his entire premise.

I'll note two things from his history.
He's an admitted former crack-head.
He's a violent felon, for holding a bunch of people hostage at Morehouse College in 1969 (including Martin Luther King Sr.), demanding a bunch of commie policy changes. He has repeatedly stated that he only got serious about the Black Power movement when they started talking about getting guns to start shooting people.
