Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at June 21, 2023 07:38 PM There is a safari park about 5 minutes away from me that bought two baby giraffe's a couple of years ago. They keep them in a building and sometimes let them go outside. It's sad really, they pretty much live their entire lives inside that shed. You can pay $$$$ to go and feed them lettuce and stuff but I have never seen them let them out to run around the property. They bought a baby rhino last year as well. Actually, yes. It's an 1873 French MAS. Saw action in WW1. Posted by: andycanuck (Vwz3I) at June 21, 2023 07:49 PM (Vwz3I) Actually it is a St Etienne modele 1873 officer's model 10mm, made on the Chamelot action. If those are the rounds that fit it, then someone has bored out the chambers to fit .45 ACP, and it will probably blow up or stretch the action if you shoot too many. Many of those pistols were converted after the fall of France in WWII for "local use" It was the original double action service pistol, and the service pistol used in initial trials to determine what the US Army wanted in a pistol cartridge to replace the .38 Army that did not do so well in the Philippines. (Soft lead bullet does not penetrate horse skulls if fired at any angle was the determination) Posted by: Kindltot at June 21, 2023 07:55 PM (xhaym) Posted by: Chatterbox Mouse at June 21, 2023 07:55 PM (vg8N1) 95

Yeah, how much of Roman culture was a huge loss?
"Then Samnus Smithicus did render his wildly popular paean "Profanus" before mighty Elagabalus, who was so pleased that he took the elephantine catamite with a Caelusian ardor so that all did see. And when he mounted Smithicus, the crowd in the Coliseum applauded with thunder." ----Roman Music Criticism, sadly lost to history Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at June 21, 2023 07:50 PM (oINRc) Caligula apparently shares a similar mindset with modern Hollywood, Disney and Amazon. Once when the crowd booed his choice to forgive a defeated gladiator he reportedly shouted back to the crowd -- "I wish you had a single neck, I'd hack it through" That's how modern artists respond to the fans too. The French jacked it up a little, and it remained in colonial service until post WW2. Now, I can't recall if it was the 1873 or 1892 but one had all internal parts numbered. The 11mm St Etienne (got that wrong, sorry) was used as a secondary arm, for prison guards and colonial troops. Colonial troops also used the 11mm rifles, the Gras, It was a single shot, The Spanish made a lot of service guns for France, based on the Smith and Wesson .32 police service pistol but in 8mm Lebel. 173 The few 1892 Lebels I have handled are just fine pieces of workmanship. Identifying marks in script, beautiful script you would see on a greeting card. The French were buying anything that would go bang during the Great War, and Spain was a good source. Many Spanish gun makers were cranking out S&W copies, so it wan't hard to go from .32 to 8MM. Savage, Remington, Colt and others were bought by the French.

Billy Idol's version was better. One of the few covers better than the original.
Posted by: Caesar North of the Rubicon I dunno, the original has its charm. Another reason I can't come down definitively in favor of the Billy Idol version is because it gets a bunch of lyrics wrong. Tommy James and the Shondells never sang anything about a pony in the original. Can anybody think of any other covers that just straight get lyrics wrong? I respect Elvis Costello for his music but also for one event in his career.
He was the musical guest with the Attractions on Saturday Night Live, and was set to play one of his hits "Less Than Zero" and was told absolutely to not play "Radio, Radio" his hit mocking the studio and radio system that controlled hits and music. So they went on stage and... played "Radio Radio" as a huge finger to the music industry and SNL. They banned him from ever appearing there again. Newsom's gun amendment proposal is America's best idea
tinyurl.com/4k6kp6es It's hard to think of a policy this country needs more than constitutional controls on firearms. If anything, the Newsom amendment is too modest. Rather than the repeal of the 2nd Amendment our country needs, the governor's measure is limited to four politically popular measures that should reduce gun violence: -universal background checks, raising the firearm purchase age from 18 to 21, firearm purchase waiting period, assault weapons ban What is boldest about the amendment is the method Newsom is advocating for its passage: using a provision in Article V of the Constitution that allows states to call a Constitutional Convention. Indeed, it's hard to think of a republican constitution on Earth more in need of updating than that of the United States. Newer, more democratic constitutions govern other rich countries in this world—counties that tend to be healthier, happier, and considerably less violent than America. The Big Red Machine. I was a Detroit Tiger Fan growing up in a small town south of Dayton. Old enough to remember watching the Reds play in Crosley Field. The Reds had Hall of Famers playing at every position except 3d base. IIRC, Pete Rose and Johnny Bench were co-team captains. If a player screwed up, he'd have to answer to Charlie Hustle, and that would be no treat.
