AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

5/27 – Jewells shared her happy news that the CT scan showed significant shrinkage of the cancerous nodules. Only 3 out of the “too many to count” had grown slightly. There were no new lesions on her bones.

5/27 – Prime Sister sent many, many thanks for the Hordling prayers and to God. Her son in Singapore, who had not been in touch with anyone for 7 months, has contacted a family member.

6/3 – Puddleglum in Pennsyltucky asked for prayers for his friend’s wife, who was diagnosed with breast cancer.

6/8 – Sharkman posted about a girl who could use prayers. She is 7 years old, and just had her third open heart surgery and a pacemaker put in, because she was born with her heart reversed in her chest. Additional surgeries will be coming in her future.

6/8 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers as she considers running for a spot on their local township committee. She is a complete neophyte in running for office, so she said she needs all the prayer support she can get!

6/10 – Jewells asked for prayers to continue for her niece, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer, plus they found 3 cancerous nodes in her lungs. Jewells herself is still going through radiation and it’s “kicking her butt”. Then she will have more chemo.

6/10 - Farmer Bob posted to the comments. He sends his thanks to the Horde for their prayers and says he’s still working to become the fit, fun, romantic and playful husband worth having that Mrs. Bob deserves. He has lost a lot of weight and still has more to go. So far she has agreed to a weekly “couple talk time” which will consist of prayer, a devotional reading, and light/positive conversation. Continued prayers for him and his wife are appreciated.

6/10 – Joe Kidd asked for prayers for his brother Mike, who needs prayers for healing of his stomach cancer that he has battled for years, and also a sizeable blood clot in his leg. The cancer was retreating until recently, but a new PET scan showed disappointing results. He was really hoping to be done with chemo. At age 65, he’s not sure how much fight he has left in him.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

4 ‘Almost still shines’: 3,000-year-old sword unearthed in Germany
Object from mid-bronze age, in ‘extraordinary’ state of preservation, was found in grave in Bavaria

A bronze sword more than 3,000 years old , which is so well-preserved that it “almost still shines”, has been unearthed in southern Germany, officials say.

The Bavarian state office for the preservation of historical monuments (BLfD) said the sword, which is believed to date back to the end of the 14th century BC — the middle of the bronze age — was found during excavations last week in Nördlingen, between Nuremberg and Stuttgart.

11 The sword has an octagonal hilt and comes from a grave in which three people – a man, a woman and a boy – were buried in quick succession with bronze objects, the BLfD said this week. It was not yet clear whether the three were related to each other and, if so, how.

Prof Mathias Pfeil, the head of the BLfD, said: “The sword and the burial still need to be examined so that our archeologists can categorise this find more precisely. But we can already say that the state of preservation is extraordinary. A find like this is very rare.”

It is unusual to find swords from the period, but they have emerged from burial mounds that were opened in the 19th century or as individual finds, the BLfD said.

30 This being the prayer thread, my advice this week is to try to reconnect to friends and family that you've simply lost track of. Life happens, people move on, and then one day you realize it's been years since you talked.

There was no falling out, just busy.

I've been doing that a lot since Covid and yesterday I attended my cousin's eldest child's high school graduation open house. The whole tribe wasn't available, but I brought my youngest daughter and the grandkids and OH BOY did that go over well. It had been ten years since I'd seen some of my relations and we spent hours catching up.

I think my favorite moment was when the grandkids (who are toddlers) were playing in the living room and a guest I didn't know remarked on how fun it is to have little ones around and I replied: "Those are the guest of honor's fourth cousins." The look was priceless.

We as a country have forgotten extended family. It's fun to bring it all back together. Certainly my kids are appreciating it.

These moments of joy are just sitting there, waiting for us to pick them up.

Setting aside any maff, McDonalds, Wendys, Dollar Tree, etc. aren't giving their employees days off for the Teenth of Junes. The federal government, woke corporations will, banks and Wall Street will be closed, etc.

Lots of places where white people work easy jobs will close. Thankless jobs for low or no skilled wage-slaves (ha) will expect those folks to be at work, same as always.

The British Army is the world's largest marching bad at this point. It has no combat capability, no force projection, no artillery. I can field one squadron of operational tanks. The woefully under-funded British army of 1938 towers over them.

The Royal Navy is selling off ships because they can man them. USN isn't doing that because it would create a scandal, which is why our ships are covered in rust.

56 One day they'll probably get rid of the 'man' in 'seaman' in USN ranks too; or ban the usage entirely and just use the E3, or whatever, designations instead.

Ironically, the general pushing the change started out in the Royal Green Jackets rifle regiment [and its later designations] so all the 'privates' under his command were Riflemen.

59 there was a piece yesterday on HA about how everyone - customers and employees both - is fed up with the new retail practice of putting all shelf items under lock and key to protect against theft. It described an instance where a man had to wait 5 minutes for a cabinet to be unlocked just to buy a tube of toothpaste, and then be escorted to the cashier by the employee. All true, and yes, intolerable - but the author failed to grasp that any retail store that adopts this as a stopgap measure is guaranteed to go out of business quickly. Modern retail is a low margin business that depends on high volume sales. Any retailer who suddenly moves to a low volume model will never be able to sell enough goods to cover their operating costs.

I wonder how they dated it. If they pulled it from a mound and discovered "bronze age" things, how did they know they didn't pull up family heirlooms or retro items of that age?

If I am later exhumed wearing my G-G-G-grandfather's watch and packing a my personalized Glock, will they think that the Revolutionary War was fought with polymer semi-autos?

I think things are going to get even worse. Even people who would just grit their teeth and stay in are finding themselves working twice as hard because units are undermanned. At that point, anything is better that a constant uphill struggle.

I'll be interested to see what the next batch of service chiefs do. The incoming JCS is black, so he may have been assumed to be on board with this crap but isn't. 84 Any retailer who suddenly moves to a low volume model will never be able to sell enough goods to cover their operating costs.

Score another win for Amazon.

They really are going to have to revisit the Service Merchandise model where empty boxes and floor demos are on the public floor and your merchandise flows out of the back room on a conveyor like luggage.

The other model is the Amazon's attempt to use an extensive network of cameras and CV for inventory control. Blend that with biometric gateways into the store. If you are a known shoplifter of any store in the participating security network, then you don't get access unless you manage to provide appropriate restitution, and even then may be on probation.

That said we are replacing our Keurig with an automatic coffee machine by De'Longhi. Used similar ones at most of the hotels we stayed in on our last overseas trip. It makes 18 different types of drink, although we will use it mainly for coffee and lattes plus the occasional espresso. Mr. NEC can have his swill and I can have my mild roast. It's self-cleaning, you just need to empty the used grounds container when it fills up.

I've worked in politics, worked on campaigns, and I've run for office. All of it sucks. Being the candidate was kind of cool in that now you get to run the show, do the interviews, but the pressure to moderate your message is intensive and pervasive.

I was able to weather it because I didn't actually want to win; in a multi-candidate race (school board), my goal was to drive up the negatives of the incumbent to the point that she lost, which she did.

I used candidacy as a platform to shift the debate and frankly dreaded the thought of winning. Happily, I didn't, and I would strongly caution people - especially religiously observant ones - that you WILL be subjected to intense temptation regarding living your faith.

Running for office basically self-selects for sociopaths who will have the edge. A religious person is at an inherent disadvantage and will face extreme temptation to betray the faith for the sake of a few lousy votes.

And what does victory bring? Even more temptation, more opportunities to endanger one's soul by seeking "a greater good."

I ran for local office some years ago, largely for reasons similar to the one mentioned (meaning for reasons other than winning).

My goal was to keep my opponents from going unopposed, such that they had to concentrate on their own race and not spend their time influence peddling on other races.

I ran an entirely positive campaign sticking solely to issues, though the local papers did paint me as a radical. I didn't win, but got a surprising amount of support and number of votes (I only missed out by a hundred votes). I also made some very good life-long friends and allies along the way.

I look back on it fondly.

US carbon dioxide is stinky and causes sea levels to rise.

Do people do a short stint and then bail? Sometimes. But not NEARLY enough.

I used the progressive Need This Now list. So on closing day, I loaded up a double axle trailer with top priority, immediately need items. The last load was furnishings that would go into place once the floors were replaced and walls resurfaced/repainted.

I praise God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit that I have a very large insulated shop to temporarily warehouse items until a place was made for them. Even more Providential that the municipality, twice a year, lays out a train of dumpsters for everyone to discard everything they don't want as long as it isn't still living, chemically toxic or radioactive.

302 Was that Dodgers thing right before the game? Cuz yeah there’s like nobody there. Or was this 2 hours before the game when there’s never anybody there?

From looking at tweets, it was anywhere between 15-40 minutes before the game. I don't know about anywhere else, but in Philly CBP is at least half capacity about a half hour before the game.

It was between them. If you think about it, the 70s saw rising crime, especially in the cities and rampant opportunistic looting. That made the showroom model attractive.

Crime policy changed, crime fell, and now you can just put stuff on a shelf at Wal Mart.

But now we've come to think low crime is just the way things are, not something achieved through years and years of effort.

Everything old is new again.

A hundred plus years ago that was the way all dry goods shopping was done. You gave the clerk at the counter your order and an employee filled it while you waited.
