The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“I didn’t necessarily think I would be a leader or a CEO. I just loved the work. I think, in libraries, you feel like you make a difference every day.” Sarah Meilleur

Quote II

I’ve always tried to get 1% better. That’s kind of been our motto. That’s the road I’m on right now. And it just happened a little bit later. And we’re just going to keep doing it until I can’t go anymore.” Berry Henson

Quote of The Day and also a Feel Good Story. Good luck Mr. Henson.

Quote III

“A lot of things are said during campaigns. But the Saudis took it seriously. MBS was offended by it. So there’s not a lot of goodwill there to begin with. I think it soured the relationship from the very beginning.” Steven Cook, a fellow in Middle East and Africa studies at the Council on Foreign Relations.

Quote IV

“The next Republican president is going to be under tremendous pressure to bring charges and indict Joe Biden, his family, his crackhead son, whoever. The pressure’s gonna be extraordinary.” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)

The Uni-Party is alive and well. Why should we vote (R) and donate money? Once again you can lie to the American people, cause division and waste millions of dollars without any type of consequence.

The House on Wednesday effectively killed a resolution to censure Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), voting for a Democratic-led motion to table the measure.

The chamber voted 225-196-7 to table the resolution. Twenty Republicans voted with Democrats to table the measure, while seven lawmakers — five Democrats, two Republicans — voted present.

Listen here Sister. I'm not giving up The ONT anytime soon.

After more than two decades, natural wine writing pioneer Alice Feiring is no longer excited by writing about wine. “I had something important to tell the world 23 years ago,” she says. But these days, she finds her attention pulled, instead, to writing about design, to delving into memoir or fiction. Wine profiles, she says, “are kind of dull! They’re important information that we need, but as a writer, it ain’t interesting.”

She really is a stupid twat isn't she?

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre shut down a reporter asking about the safety of female athletes in high school being forced to compete with physically superior biological males who identify as female by claiming any such concern is to say “transgender kids are dangerous.”

President Biden’s spokesperson initially agreed it’s “a complicated issue” when asked in light of the administration’s proposed changes to Title IX if the White House worried about the physical safety of females competing against males, essentially deferring to the Department of Education.

The reporter pressed, “What would the President say to the parents out there who have daughters — say, in high school, for example — who are worried that their daughter may have to compete against a male, or a person born male, and there could be direct physical athletic competition?”

Dining in NYC just became more expensive.

New York City's food delivery workers are slated to make a minimum wage for the first time ever under new regulations announced by Mayor Eric Adams on Sunday.

Tens of thousands of delivery workers are slated to make at least $17.96 per hour plus tips by July 12, and at least $19.96 an hour by 2025, city officials said.

That's a sharp increase from what delivery workers make now. Many take home less than the city's minimum wage of $15 an hour.

I wonder what the decrease in tips will be percentage wise.

Unfortunately it won't be long until the USA is a carbon copy of Malaysia.

Malaysia is seeking Interpol's help in tracking down a New York-based comedian who joked about the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

Jocelyn Chia, a US national who grew up in Singapore, is being investigated under laws related to incitement and offensive online content, police say.

Her joke, posted online last week, prompted an official protest from Malaysia and an apology from Singapore.

MH370 went missing after taking off from Kuala Lumpur in March 2014.

United Health Care isn't having a good year. And it looks like the Kung Flu is being blamed.

UnitedHealth Group Inc. shares plunged the most in three years after CFO John Rex told an audience at the Goldman Sachs Global Healthcare Conference that a recent surge in surgeries and other medical care might push expenses higher than previously forecasted. The exec's comments rippled through the S&P 500 Managed Care Index, sending Humana Inc. and Elevance Health Inc lower.

Rex's comments came late Tuesday at the Goldman healthcare event. He said the premium revenue spent on care for the second quarter might be "moderately above" the high end of expectations. This was enough to send UnitedHealth shares down as much as 9.3%.

The state is known for having some of the strictest gun-control laws in the nation

If it is too difficult to tell people about the fees then it is too difficult for people to pay them and you should reduce your fees. Amirite Comcast?

Comcast is not happy about new federal rules that will require it to provide broadband customers with labels displaying exact prices and other information about Internet service plans.

In a filing last week, Comcast told the Federal Communications Commission that it is "working diligently to put in place the systems and processes necessary to create, maintain, and display the labels as required." But according to Comcast, "two aspects of the Commission's Order impose significant administrative burdens and unnecessary complexity in complying with the broadband label requirements."

Comcast noted that five major cable and telecom industry trade groups petitioned the FCC in January to change the rules. Comcast's new filing urged the FCC to grant the petition "as soon as possible before the rules become effective to help providers streamline and simplify their labeling processes, which will ultimately benefit consumers."

35 I started watching "Bram Stoker's Dracula", the 1992 movie starring Keanu Reaves and Wynona Ryder's boobs bouncing up and down as she runs down a set of stairs in her negligee. Also, Gary Oldman participates in an inexplicable bifurcated wig and very fake looking extended fingers. He chews an enormous amount of scenery, possibly to ease the pain of sharing a screen with Keanu and Wynona.

Both Keanu and Wynona affect what are quite possibly the worst British accents this side of Dick van Dyke. I mean, it's absolutely painful to listen to them. It's also a reminder that while he has dramatically improved since this movie, Keanu isn't really much of an actor.

Korean Lady Salon Boss goes roof top and says penis, no good. TransPenis then sues the spa for penis discrimination and wins. Korean Lady Salon Boss "negotiates" a deal with the St. of Wa and now says lady penis, good. So far no news here. Plot twist. You have to use you name in court filings which TransPenis did and just like that TransPenis is a featured article in the Daily Mail. TransPenis is sad, really sad, that you can't sue people without using your name which is sort of a constitutional requirement - being able to confront your accuser and such. 116 Quote Three about Saudi Arabia being upset about what Joe Biden said at his inauguration: I have always thought that Saddam Hussein and the Shrub were talking past each other. From what I have observed, a declaration of intent of an action translates to actual execution of deed in many Arab minds. Saddam would threaten something then strut about as if he'd actually done it. OTOH, the Shrub would believe Saddam actually intended to do what he said he would do, and threaten retaliation, which Saddam took as actually in the works.

We really need people in our embassies and advisory positions who actually know the cultural nuances of the country they are dealing with. Speaking the language simply isn't enough. You have three choices after you score a touchdown:
1. Hand the ball to the referee,
2. Spike the ball, or
3. Gather your teammates together and you all do a 30 second celebration dance.

Allowing the other party to save face is the equivalent of # 1 above.

150 They were empty kegs. Posted by: Misanthropic Humanitarian

Had a HS pal who was, um, how does one say this, a criminal. One night we were walking home and went by a bar with a stack of kegs outside of it. Criminal Friend goes, I want one for my bedroom...goes to grab one thinking they were empty only to find it wasn't empty. Of course it slipped out of his hands and went rolling away into city traffic. Somehow it ended up in a payphone booth in front of a 7-11 so Criminal Friend could find somebody to drive him and his new friend home. The moral of the story here is one should remember every phone number in your head. A few years later he had an epiphany and straightened out his life and was on his way to a new job in a different state. While traveling through an Idaho canyon a huge wind hit is car and trailer and pulled down in the canyon killing him. Sometimes I just give up trying make sense of anything and everything.

156 @129: "If there were other golf leagues or governing bodies ..."

It's weird 'cause LIV could arguably be seen as the first realistic challenger to the PGA's prior monopoly, and the merger makes the new league an even larger monopoly than before.

Outside of MLB's antitrust exemption, there's been a whole bunch of arbitrary non-enforcement against other major sports in the US. A carefully chosen judge suddenly taking the other side against an inconvenient business partner wouldn't be the biggest miscarriage of justice we've seen in recent years.

Greg Norman's comment that LIV events wouldn't be going away anytime soon -- despite the PGA now pushing a quick and total merger -- was a slight tell. He knows their leverage evaporates the moment their league shutters, and they'll wait until all legal challenges are dead until they do.

Uptown Minneapolis about two and a half miles away from George Floyd Square. Our little shopping district was a main looting target beginning on night one. Still lots of empty store fronts and closed bars, but a century old movie theater just reopened as a music venue last week, so we have that going for us, which is nice. One of the main bus transfer stations is half a block away from a cluster of old apartment buildings with a small handful of long time tenants remaining and waiting for renovation or demolishment, and I do security.

City park, major bike and running path, and newish library nearby so there's a jurisdictional clusterfuck between transit police, park police, county sheriffs, and city cops. City council voted to close the bus stop at night on March 15 as it had become a public safety hazard. They passed $3m in emergency funding for private security at this station and four others by end of spring, but no joy yet.

217 The homeless, mentally ill, and/or drug addicts and dealers have since moved from the station to the darker areas in the park, around the library, along the bike path, etc. I'd guess three dozen people roaming around on any given night; half are long term regulars, other half come and go every few days. Daytime activity spiked a few weeks ago when warm weather chased people out of shelters. Sporadic enforcement or deliberate non-enforcement from the city; inconsistently applied carrots and sticks.

I have so many stories and sociological observations about the last few years. Things are mostly quiet in terms of wannabe squatters trying to politely schmooze or impolitely break their way into the buildings, but it wasn't always. Campers have been scared off property too. It's mostly zombies trying to claim stoops or cause miscellaneous trouble in the bushes and dark corners nowadays, and those are newbies in the neighborhood since everyone else knows better.

220 I bailed off the Interstate at Meadow, Utah, and took a series of back roads up to the town of Tooele, where I merged onto I-80 eastbound for a few miles until I picked up the I-215 belt route northbound, which then put me om I-15 northbound at Farmington. A few miles of heavy traffic until I reached Ogden, then it cleared out real well, and smooth sailing onward. Much less stressful than pounding the Interstate through all the urbs from Provo to Ogden. Backroad Utah is real pretty.

My own flag posted up on a pole atop my front yard fence with the USMC Blood Chit flying below for all of my #1's deployments 2003-2012...5 in total.

The flag pole still stands though the bougainvillea with their wicked thorns and red flowers have grown half way up the pole.

Might be time indeed to trim the thorns back and hoist the colors again...and the Blood Chit as well.

The neighbors will take notice for sure but care I not.

Later in mean solar/standard/UT1/UTC time. If you reckon in apparent (true) solar time, the earliest sunrise does come on the solstice, as well as the latest sunset.

Put another way, on the solstice, the uniform time between sunrise and high noon (when the sun is directly over the local meridian) and the time between high noon and sunset will always be the greatest at the solstice.

Well, above the tropic of cancer and below the tropic of Capricorn. In between those to sub-solar lines, things get a bit more wonky.

That America still exists, it's gone nowhere. Everything that allowed it to become the most exceptional country on the planet hasn't disappeared, it HAS been suborned to the point of invisibility by the leftist filth.

If you look you will discover that we've met and prevailed over issues even more serious than this, with an unbroken record of success.

280 Romeo13,

World Jamboree in Japan in 1971. We camped on the plain in front of Mt. Fuji. My tent opened on the mountain and every morning I could see the snow-dusted peak. By the afternoon, clouds obscured the summit.

Having to walk a half a mile or so to the food distribution point in a typhoon is not . . . easy. When it was my turn to go with another guy (for breakfast rations), the eye passed overhead. We laughed as we came back bone dry. Then it started again.

So I've walked in the eye of a hurricane. Strange and obviously unplanned, but definitely a 'cross off the bucket list' moment.

The evacuation stories, especially the 'treats' prepared for us 'evacuees' by the local old ladies in a small village, are very memorable. This is before sushi hit the mainstream in America. Now for them at that time, one such 'treat' was nori wrapped around a rice ball with a center of jellyfish. Yeah no. But, God love 'em, they tried to make us feel welcome. But the jellyfish was a food too far.

Even Kennedy was not moral, as he belied his Catholicism. He tried, though, and he was killed for his efforts.

'Outsiders' have been Outright Killed in this country for their beliefs.

There has not been a Real Pope since 1958. The Holy See has been vacant and "Freedom to Sin" has been excused by every occupant, since.

Catholics believe in not holding debt, yet the administration of Woodrow Wilson allowed for a Central Bank, which held debt.

Where am I incorrect?

288 I may not share a line-for-line concurrence with Slapweasel's every theological treatise.

But damn if I don't lay down my own heretical tone-arm into the same groove on that record, and dig the tune.

I don't know about the pre 1958 Popes. But I know for sure that JPII was one HELL of a lot closer to HIM, than the present Made in China plastic chrome plated dashboard pope wobbling about puking communism.

289 Francis is an anti-pope. We've had them before. God will right this barque, at some point, probably when we least deserve it. Cranky Franky is a temporary condition which will pass. His church will remain.

290 *un-static*

See? Despite Timothy 2:12, we have this ongoing endeavor that I once endorsed.

Also: If my I.Q. reached 100, it was because someone was pressing on the scale.

I was naive when I started the Prayer List and even more ignorant when I passed it off to a woman.

Am I a Troll? In some eyes, now; perhaps.

I simply hate the anti-Christ.

Don't feel special. I've been where you are.

Posted by: Slapweasel at June 15, 2023 02:50 AM (kQFcK)

291 Oh, things are going to get very ugly. Just look at the pushback the pushback against trans indoctrination that has occurred. To be concerned about the education of your child, and keep them away from groomers in the schools, now makes you a domestic terrorist.

There are no political disagreements anymore; they are now political 'take no prisoners' wars. The violence is already here, we're just being gaslit about it. We cannot continue having 'elite' incompetents lording over us, telling us how special they are, while having a different set of laws apply to them. The Intolerable Acts were once considered Intolerable for a reason.

Posted by: RickZ at June 15, 2023 02:54 AM (emlEe)

292 Slap.

I'm NOT Catholic. I'm barely a Christian, save for my Confession of Faith and earthquake level conversion, many years ago.

So, dumb question. Might be for Catholics and not for me?

How do we/they/y'all purge the Anti-Christs and Anti-Popes from the playing field. If it Scripturally can be done, at all?

'Cause there's a multitude of teevee preachers that need to know the healing power of "EMPTY" collection plates.

293 I don't see the need to attack me. It neither changes my mind or who I am. Thanks for starting the prayer list and God bless you. Yours seemed an odd reaction to my expressing concern to a fellow poster whose husband had a serious procedure and to whom I agreed with on the importance of prayer.

294 I am not special. I have always known that I am just a guy with a keyboard. I have no "Special Knowledge" because it has all been written, before.

I call myself retarded because I am. I can no more decipher Scripture than some "expert", yet I know what I see.

I have watched "Megachurches" go about their ways and bastardize God's Word for profit.

Humility is key and I'll not tell you that I can decipher the Word of God.

...but we have gone astray; the lot of us. Me, included.

Do not "follow" me. That is the last thing I would ask of humanity... *HAH!*

296 I've had a heart ablation due to scar tissue. I was kept overnight because there was a lot of 'burning'. But the immediate before and after was startling. The next day I left the hospital and lightly jogged to catch a bus to get home. That procedure is amazing.

And the leg hole is smaller than the one I had had years earlier, too. That was for a stent.

316 Without reference to the merits (because who cares what my opinion is anyway), Slap's sentiments would have been uncontroversial in many quarters a generation or so ago, a supermajoritarian one before that, and virtually unchallenged even earlier but still within the lifetime of the HQ's oldest commenters. It's a good example of how there really are almost no conservatives in any important way anymore. Today's conservatives are largely just 70s liberals. There's no position conservatives won't abandon. 20 years from now, a majority of conservatives will roll their eyes or worse at those uncomfortable with transgenderism. Conservatism is dead, and it ain't coming back.

317 The idiots' belief of Christianity is that we are passive cows whose only belief is Eventual Forgiveness.

That's understandable, seeing-as that has been the Leftist Interpretation since the invasion of the Papacy and its eventual takeover in 1958.

There has not been a Real Catholic Pope since 1958.

This country was founded upon Protestant, Enlightenment philosophy. There has been no larger a misnomer than the "enlightenment", as it were.

We revere George Washington for crossing an icy river to slay Hessians on Christmas for those reasons.

We no longer hold to those beliefs because we are pussies.

I won't even cross the street to punch a faggot because of traffic.

I. Am. Pathetic.

Either understand the foundation and accept its Better, in Christianity, or boil like that gay frog in the proverbial pot.
