  • Had a fun start to the weekend when our cloud provider at work decided to migrate twenty-five of our servers to new hardware. On a Friday afternoon. 5AM Saturday for me.

Yes, we have everything set up with redundant servers. Doesn't help much when 25 of them reboot all at once.

  • The creator of dystopian science-fiction TV series Black Mirror used ChatGPT to write the script for an episode.

    It was shit. (Gizmodo)

All it did was smush together the scripts for other episodes.

What you need to do to be a successful Hollywood writer is smush together the scripts for other episodes while stealing an idea from somewhere else.

There's some theory about Alzheimer's that it is a sleep disorder. That the human brain has a housekeeping crew that works on the brain at night, sweeping the floors, gathering the dust, emptying the ashtrays - stuff like that.

If you put that housekeeping crew on short shift the brain starts to act like Joe Biden.

In most movies that feature someone with a laptop, it is usually an Apple product. I wonder if that is brand placement by Apple, and thus paying for the privilege, or just a director's choice? Personally I keep away from such overpriced POS.

Well it seems that all those theories, research, drug development that went on assuming it was those strange proteins causing all the problems, was all just sucked out of someone's thumb early this century. Billions in research down the drain. That 'team' should be physically drawn and quartered. I cannot bear the thought of falsifying even a minor detail in a scientific paper. Putting forth false data is scientific sacrilege.

34 Hubby sometimes enters state of mild dementia, due to excess ammonia in his bloodstream, caused by his liver's inability to filter it all out. Said ammonia is produced in the digestive tract and can be 'flushed' before absorption if he uses enough laxative.

It's truly (and literally!) a sh1tty situation. At least (for now) it is somewhat reversible when it does occur.

My suspicion is that more physically active people also sleep better.

Posted by: Divide by Zero at June 10, 2023 05:11 AM (enJYY)

36 For sure, being stimulated and active for a period is more likely to produce a subsequent period of rest. Often without that natural Circadian rhythms get disrupted and sleep cycles become irregular, at odd hours, many become more active nocturnally.

Without a long enough sleep period you never achieve that desired REM state where the brain is supposedly "cleaning" itself.

The moon's destruction shifted the orbit between the moon and Earth, devastating the cities on the planet. Luckily, most of the moon stayed intact, while some remained in Earth's orbit, forming a ring around the planet.

I wanted to jump start my diet so I tried the carnivore diet where you just eat meat and mostly red meat (oh, and eggs are okay). Lost 10 pounds in about three weeks. After about three weeks I started to introduce some carbs back into the diet, but not too much (spinach, broccoli, cabbage, etc). Now, I've plateaued with the same calories and exercise. It's aggravating.

Legal Insurrection has posted a surprising set of google map photos from the week before the collapse. In them, you can see the roadway over the dam start to degrade and fall apart a couple days before the actual collapse. This doesn't tell us how the damage occurred, but it does look like a slow motion collapse began several days before the final big collapse; ie, the dam was falling apart.

The project this weekend is to replace some siding with Hardiplank, and then paint. I had to go to 3 Home Depots to find beaded Hardiplank. One store I went to said online they had 320 in stock. When I got there, they had 2, one of which was broken.

And if he tries to save his money he'll lose both.

The Georgia GOP Convention is this weekend. Georgia Republican Assembly head Alex Johnson says
that a Georgia GOP rule change "will bring ideological purity to Republican candidates".

Under the rule, a majority of delegates can vote to stop " far-right activists" from qualifying.

He likened it to homeowners who put a sign on their lawn advertising they own a firearm to deter thieves.

“Politicians thinking of voting badly will start to vote better,” Johnson said.

Check local news first thing this AM.
Ex-employee (fired for doing doughnuts in the parking lot) of mine got jailed yesterday for Child neglect/abuse. House was horrid. Kids the same ages as my Grands. Youngest was found wandering the neighborhood in a shitty diaper which led to a warrant.

I knew there were more issues with this dude than just a shitty work ethic. I should have tried a bit harder to help but HR did their thing.

Doesn't stop me from feeling guilty. I know the kids.

Ima try and talk the DIL and Son to foster. Maybe even.. look.. into.. doing... it.... myself...

Damn this is not how I wanted to start my weekend.

Got no idea what the "body count" is from the smoke issue, the reaction I encountered was anecdotal, there was nobody I spoke with that recalled a similar occurrence of this magnitude.

I flew 1700 miles to meet Jesse and go to a cabin in W Va. (No cell service there so he drove me 45 minutes to find a good enough signal to let my family know I was ok and he wasn't a serial killer, and that's when I knew I loved him.) So yes, I would also have to say best decision of my life re: Jesse.

378 The former president stored boxes of classified documents in various locations at Mar-a-Lago, including an office space, his bedroom, a storage room, a bathroom, a ballroom and in the shower, according to the unsealed indictment.

On 5 April 2021, a Trump employee texted a colleague to ask whether boxes in the business center could be moved to make room for staff to use it as an office.

The employee responded, “We can definitely make it work if we move his papers into the lake room?”

First employee: “There is still a little room in the shower where his other stuff is. Is it only his papers he cares about? Theres some other stuff in there that are not papers. Could that go to storage? Or does he want everything in there on property?”

Bogus. A 'satire' web site made the claim and some people got sucked in. In actuality:

KitchenAid is one of the companies that partnered with Dylan Mulvaney, a transgender influencer known for documenting her gender transition on social media.
