What's wrong with a guy starting a show, calling it something, and running a lean operation? He probably would like to have a producer or an intern or someone to run the Prompter for him, but he clearly doesn't have one. So he said, "fuck it, I'll do it myself."
Good. That's a *good* thing. That's admirable, actually. "I don't have what I used to have, but I need to get back in it and if that means I wear multiple hats, then so be it" is a pretty good attitude to have.

I have no idea how Twitter counts a "view." On YouTube, you actually have to watch some percentage of the video for it to count as a "view." Twitter will need something similar (if they don't already have it - I dunno) if they want to do ads and revenue-sharing.

Fox may not want to open the pandoras box that comes along with a lawsuit, as then information about him being taken off the air goes public, and if it has anything to do with the Dominion suit, that seems like a a recipe for both Fox and Dominion to lose a few hundred million each, since having someone removed for something that had nothing to do with them seems like a clear case of wrongful termination.

Carlson isn't an idiot and I am sure he knew lawsuits would come in as soon as he did this. His lawyers had public responses out very quickly - quickly enough that they were probably prepared statements.
He knew this was coming and his lawyers are in line. I wish him nothing but the best in this fight, and I am glad to see that he did *not* appear to be caught flat-footed in the slightest.

Some it is also probably incompetence and envy.
If you've ever been in front of a camera reading off a Prompter, you know it's actually a bit more tricky than it looks. You have to read ahead, process phonetic spellings, remember where you are when you cut to tape, etc. It actually takes a fair amount of focus to use a Prompter successfully. Having to run that prompter yourself is just yet more complexity, and another thing to keep track of without losing stride. It doesn't take brilliance, but you do have to pay a *lot* of attention to pull it off.
I doubt Stelter could do it. He's very, very stupid and, more importantly, extremely coddled.

I doubt Stelter could do it. He's very, very stupid and, more importantly, extremely coddled. Beyond his laziness and incompetence, the remote control buttons for the Prompter are probably fairly small (they were on the older systems I have used), which will make reliably hitting the correct button difficult if you - like Stelter - have chubby fingers dripping with an amalgam of old butter, sour cream, cheese and bacon bits.

Gavin Newsom on Thursday proposed a 28th Amendment to the US Constitution in what he describes as an effort to end America's gun violence crisis.
"The gun lobby says we can't stop the carnage America now experiences every day without violating the 2nd Amendment – that thoughts and prayers are the best we can do… that's a lie," Newsom said in a statement.
The amendment "permanently enshrines" four gun measures that Newsom claims have broad support.
This includes raising the minimum age to purchase a firearm to 21. "Because if you can't buy a beer, you shouldn't be able to buy a gun," Newsom said in a video posted to YouTube.
It would also mandate universal background checks, institute waiting periods for all gun purchases, & ban assault rifles.
"Those weapons of war our founding fathers never foresaw," Newsom said.

I don't mean to quibble, and Ace used the word "fake" too, but that's not the issue. There's some willful fraud in the raw 70m view count, maybe statistically significant, but it's not a huge concern.
The problem is ignoring multiple views by the same person, and counting anyone who watches just a few seconds as a viewer. There's no filtering with appropriate minimum qualifications.

Yep. All we see is "100 million view" without any context about what that means. If 20 million people watch it 5 times or 10 people watch it 10 million times each, we'll never know. The data is there on the backend, but we'll never see it. One of the video tools I use will give me unique viewers as well as how much time they spent watching the video. However, front-end users never see that.

Having scrapped cable 15 years ago, never knew who he was other than Ace featuring / linking to some of his tweets.
Just finished an audiobook of his autobiography "How I Saved The World" (and yes, he jokes about having done so at age 40 or whatever a la DogEater).
It was pretty enjoyable -- he has a good sense of humor, and didn't know that he (and O'Reilly, for whom he worked) really went after judges who were letting child rapists out of prison with slaps on the wrists ... before it was cool.
Funniest part was that his mom -- a dyed in the wool liberal -- would text him with mostly complaints and criticisms when he appeared on "The View." He goes through like 150 of them, with his mostly (subsequently, for the book) sarcastic responses.

Back in the day, when I was doing my nuclear power training for the Navy, there was a small fire at the reactor where I worked. Now, Navy guys have the same attitude about fire as Fetterman's Monster - Fire Bad! - so we put it out.

One of the closest guarded "stats" in the streaming business are the key timestamp moments in shows when too many people pause or stop watching completely. Bad plot twists, stupid dialog, cheap CGI, etc. You've gotta have some real pull and influence on the business side to have full access. First time directors, writers, creatives, etc., would meltdown if they knew how bad some of the viewer reactions were.

Not yet, if my understanding is correct. Twitter isn't really designed for monetizing video or revenue-sharing with creators. Part of why Musk wants Carlson on the platform is that (going off memory of Musk's statements about it) is that they will be working together to figure out how such a thing can be structured profitably.

Supposedly the real number is between 12-15% of that number, which is still far and above what Fox's numbers were. Even if the hype dies down, he'll be getting more eyes than he ever would at Fox. That has got to be freaking them out.

The way they were used in the video it was hard to tell, but looking at the single images they were obviously not photographs, looked more like photo-realistic painting. Somebody knew, and yes if some sort of "those responsible were terminated" doesn't come out, Ron's stock is dropping at least for me. Of course, it'll also open the doors for some absolute hysteria in the coming months.
