Dancing Days Cafe

canyoniceland2.jpg

Looks like a steeper version the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland.

"A bubble in the swamp" explains the rock formations:

This is called "columnar jointing". The "facets" are shrinkage cracks as the molten lava slowly cools. The columns are straight if the surface of the molten lava is a plane, but can be bent if the lava erupts in the form of a dome, or encounters some solid obstacle that is cool.

It's not crystals, because the gross pattern is not repeated at an atomic scale inside the columns. The process is more akin to the formation of mud cracks in a drying pond. The columns are not regular hexagons; they are a hodge-podge of shapes that averages out to hexagons, but no two columns are identical in size and shape.

A little apartment for a cat.

Washing machine disco.

Traffic cones dancing in the rain. Or Daleks. It might be Daleks.

Summertime!

A blind dog has his own seeing-eye dog.

Dog doing tricep extensions. GAINZZZZ.

Cat doing sit-ups. CATZZZ GAINZZZ.

Dog is very choosy about how to properly lay in the rain-soaked puddle.

Doggie school bus.

First contact.

Elephant giving birth -- but a warning. Nature is beautiful, and by "beautiful," we mean totally gross.

Little boost for a baby elephant.

Little boost for a polar bear cub.

Man rescues a wolf from a trap, despite the wolf trying to chomp on him the whole time.

Dancing swans. I think it's "The Forbidden Dance."

Some Steve Inman videos. The theme is "violence." Content warning.

Drunk guy on street gets put to bed.

Some soyboys getting one-shotted by old guys.

Street bandits bring knives to a truck fight. It's a good one.

Another violent guy with a knife gets blindsided.

SICK street fight, total destruction.

I kinda wonder what the guy with the camera was doing during that last vid, TBH....

I mean some "stones" are definitely crystals (most gems). This has to be some kind of crystal formation, or we wouldn't see the same repeating shapes at scale.

10 Re Wolf in the trap - Back in the days when the earth had not yet cooled, I ran a trap line and accidently snared an owl. My buddy and I fought that owl mightily to get him free but he was trying to kill us the entire time. I finally threw my hunting jacket over him and while my buddy held him down, I was able to release his trapped talon. That jacket was torn to ribbons.

16 I had a nice little surprise a little while ago.

I went to move my sprinkler back into the middle of the backyard, and my backyard bunny was on the far side by the hedge.

I tried not to look at it, just setting the sprinkler down, and it didn't run away. And when I went to adjust the sprinkler position about three times, it didn't run away at all then either.

46 "The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of men who wanted to be left alone.
They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love.
They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it.

They know, that the moment they fight back, the lives as they have lived them, are over.
The moment the men who wanted to be left alone are forced to fight back, it is a small form of suicide. They are literally killing off who they used to be...

Which is why, when forced to take up violence, these men who wanted to be left alone, fight with unholy vengeance against those who murdered their former lives. They fight with raw hate, and a drive that cannot be fathomed by those who are merely play-acting at politics and terror.
True terror will arrive at the Left's door, and they will cry, scream, and beg for mercy . . . . but it will fall upon deaf ears." - Anonymous

80 Holy Spin, Batman!

Fueling Republicans' frustration this week is a standoff on Capitol Hill over a document detailing an interview conducted years ago based on a tip given to the DOJ by former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani.
Giuliani, you might recall, had been tasked with digging up dirt on the Bidens. House Republicans are convinced the interview with the confidential informant, based on Giuliani's allegations, implicates both the president and his son.
There's an awkward circularity in there. Republicans are alleging the FBI under the Biden administration tried to cover up an investigation of a tip given to the FBI by Giuliani during the Trump administration, and which even Trump's attorney general, William Barr, treated with extreme care.

I don't know how long it will take for Lila to reach her goal. The most points she can pick up at any one show is 5. The number is determined by the entry that day, her placement and the locale of the show. It sounds complicated but exhibitors can work it out in their heads instantly.

96 Jeebus. This guy.

A suspended FBI agent, who Republicans view as a whistleblower, told lawmakers on Capitol Hill in May about the form detailing the interview and has alleged the FBI tried to bury it.
Why didn't the FBI want to hand over the document?
It contains what the FBI calls "unverified" information.
Essentially, anything could lead to an FD-1023 form, which does nothing more than acknowledge an interview took place.
While Republicans are assuming there is a coverup, it does make some sense that if the FBI had gotten a wild claim that it could in no way substantiate, it would not want to give oxygen to that information.
After all, much of Republicans' gripe with the Russia investigation is that it stemmed from allegations about Trump that could not be verified.

97 And my other boring, sprinkler anecdote is that I bought a new one for the frontyard last week when it was in the high 80s F.

As I was adjusting the spray and its position in the lawn centre, a couple and their toddler walked by. The kid was still doing the Fetterman Frankenstein monster walk but was old enough that his parents weren't holding onto him.

The kid began saying, "Wawa" and pointing; then the parents let him walk into the spray with him continuing to say "Wawa". I asked, "Is it raining?" and the mother repeats, "Is it raining?" So we had a pleasant minute or two before they continued on their way.

"There were at least four morphologies, different structures. Six were in good shape; six were not in good shape. There were cases where the craft landed, and the occupants left the craft unoccupied. There have been high-level people, including generals, who have placed their hand on the craft."

This month, though, Marvel officially declared the Punisher persona non grata, eliminating the character as readers know him. Did he go out in a blaze of glory? Marvel even brings the Punisher's wife back from the dead, only so that she can divorce him and take his money and property, and then inform him that his lifelong crusade against the criminal underworld was all for nothing.

163 I see the latest "lawyerly" argument made by lefties claiming to be lawyers is that Trump deserves what is coming to him becasue he is a big mouth lout that made boorish unhelpful statements about the "records" he had to the FBI/DOJ and Mar Lago guests that suggests that they were still classified, and that his lawyers are going to testify against him that he forced them to make false statements and hide "records."

This is the "Trump is a bad person as far as I am concerned and just deserves to be in jail" stompy feet argument. See? No criminal statute violation is even needed! "He's a loudmouth boor and that makes it easy to arrest him - so let's just do it!" Unfortunately for the DOJ, this also sums up their case rather succinctly, as well.

Aliens are smart, and well aware of the fact that 10 mm sockets habitually vanish into the ether. So they build all their craft with 9 mm nuts instead, so they can lose the 9 mm sockets. Which is no big deal, because they can jam on the 3/8 socket instead.

173 Mack Bolan, alias The Executioner, is a fictional character who has been serialized in 631 novels with sales of more than 200 million books.[1] Created by Don Pendleton, Bolan made his first appearance on the printed page in The Executioner #1: War Against the Mafia (1969). Pendleton wrote 37 other novels featuring Bolan, often referred to as the "Mafia Wars". In 1980, Pendleton sold his rights to the character to Gold Eagle, which hired a number of ghostwriters to continue publishing Bolan monthly, to satisfy reader demand worldwide. Don Pendleton remained credited as the sole author and supervised these new adventures, which took the Bolan character all over the world fighting terrorism. This new series of books featured Bolan as a principled warrior fighting larger-than-life adversaries in the spirit of a tougher, American version of James Bond.

Bolan enlisted in the Army at age 18 and served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Green Beret, even though newer novels do not make any reference to this as it makes him seem too old.[2]

Bolan became an expert sniper with over 90 kills to his record, earning him the nickname "The Executioner". ...

During his service in the Vietnam War, Bolan became highly adept at penetration and intelligence gathering, guerrilla warfare and became a skilled armorer.[2]

You have to find a way to get over fundamental issues of acceleration and radiation. You get over 6 or so Gs sustained and you are in a world of hurt. And think what a spec of dust does to the Space Station and keep in mind the kinetic energy increases by the square of the velocity, so a tiny spec can wreck your entire day. And don't forget the constant cosmic radiation out there. No, short of some amazing method to leisurely mosy from one place to another (fanciful at current technology), not gonna happen for us anytime soon.

The trick to breaking the light barrier will involve manipulations of space. We already have theories that show that spatial compression (similar to the Star Trek style) should be possible.

Academically knowing that a thing should be possible, and having the slightest clue how to do it are totally separate things. NASA believes it, though, and has been investigating to see if any known process generates spatial distortion. It'd simplify things greatly if we were already doing it as a side effect of some other process and just didn't realize... otherwise we'll probably need to develop something that has negative mass (also theoretically sound, but beyond current materials science).

We've designed the optimum vehicle shape to utilize such a device, given the forces that would be working on it, but we don't have anything that can provide the spatial distortion required.

are the books any good? I could stand to read a pulp action book like Remo or Mack Bolan.

I read the first The Shadow novel. It was pretty good. It has a good concept. The main character isn't The Shadow, but some random guy he's made into his agent. The Shadow just shows up here and there to assist or bail him out. It works pretty well, because it keeps The Shadow in the, um, shadows and more mysterious, and the main character is an amateur trying to accomplish his missions.

I had to read it as a PDF from some site. It's hard to get The Shadow books.

I saw a YouTube video last week about the private Japanese moon lander crash, and basically, they fully tested and certified the self-navigation systems, but later changed the landing site which resulted in an unexpectedly large crater rim blowing up the math so the lander thought its vertical acceleration was all over the place.

So maybe all these crashed alien ships are early von Neumann like self-replicating explorers with some sorta glitch. Maybe they keep getting distracted by our music transmissions and talk radio.

I haven't kept up in years, but one of the most consistently popular characters since the 80s or so. Transcended comic books and entered the world of everyday life the same way the Superman symbol did, for many of the same reasons but in a more realistic, less "I'm a space alien and nothing can hurt me" way.

I can understand why they canceled him.

328 Theologians have, at times, spoken in terms of planes.
We're obviously on the physical plane.
Bound by time and space.
Then there's the astral plane, where dreams occur.
No such boundaries.
Above that is the causal plane, the realm of thoughts (angels, apparitions, prayers, etc)
Above that is the singularity.
Or, so I've read.

We were meant to be in *awe* of it. It's a tangible demonstration of a small piece of God's own power and vastness.

What really tickles me is that when I see the design of DNA, I am in absolute awe of that too.

God left us all these clues. There is NO earthly reason why these heretofore never seen things should be appealing to us on any level. Assface atheists can tell me we "evolved" to love and be amazed by sunsets. That the beings that loved sunsets are just the ones that survived.

Well how can they explain our fascination with and unmistakable beauty of both the microscopic and the so large we can't even really begin to contemplate it shit that we've only become aware of in the last 50 to 100 years. Not fucking dumbfuck evolution.

If you're looking for a new earth-like planet to live on, why pick Earth, where we've used up some of the resources, and we have 8 billion intelligent animals willing to fight the invaders with everything from rocks to nukes?

Beans and cornbread is a go-to meal for me around here. My favorite is northern or navy (racist white beans), but pintos will do in a pinch. A bit of hot sauce, some salt and pepper, and some bacon grease - and any ham or hambone I might've tucked away in the corner of the freezer - and it's a favorite meal and something I wouldn't hesitate to serve to company.

I might make it tomorrow now that you got me thinking about it.
