First-World Problems...

unknown coin11.jpg

unknown coin22.jpg

Damned if I know what it is!

We did some painting, and in the process of clearing out the room I came across a long-forgotten stash of coins. Why we put a bunch of euros in a pottery jar I have no idea. But this ringer was in there with them, and while I suppose it is from Asia, that's as far as I got in my numismatic investigation.

The coin is a bit worn, although it isn't in an alphabet I can read, so that doesn't really matter. And it's a fair bet that it is worth about 12 cents, so I am not counting on it for retirement, but I sure would like to know what country it's from and why the hell it's in my house!

One thing you do not do in Thailand is talk bad about the King. Also never show the bottem of your feet to a Thai. It is considered rude to use your feet for anything, as such do not point anything out with your feet, nudge anything with them, or even hold a door open with your feet. we badly needed rain. Yesterday it rained 20 miles south of us - 20 miles north of us - 20 miles east of us - and 20 miles west of us. Every time a storm approached I'd check my weather radar and see it split in half just so it could go around us on either side.

116 The ruins on that are not Angkor Wat, but rather the ruins of the old Siamese capital of Ayutthaya. You may recognize it from the first scene in the 1990s Mortal Kombat movie where there is a battle on some ancient ruins. I've been there! Very impressive, SE asia had some really medga dynasties back in the day. Worth a visit

126 @39 I use my tractor for a shitload of jobs but by far the most valuable task is turning compost -- because if I had to do it by hand, I'd do a cute little tiny amount, but with the loader bucket I can work truckloads. I save leaves and grass, plus coffee grounds and eggshells. If you can turn it over every couple weeks, the time it takes to turn into soil is greatly accelerated, and you won't have the pile "go stuck" with anaerobic bacteria. I generate over six yards of new garden-quality topsoil a year from two acres of lawn and trees, couple hundred dollars worth.

If you ever wonder what-the-hell good a loader is on a mini-utility tractor the size of a riding lawnmower, there you have it. Sure it's just a motorized wheelbarrow, but think of how many times you're going to fill that wheelbarrow. It's...free dirt.

Just the same, I recommend a loader big enough to get over the sideboards of a small dump truck. You get a lot more use out of that, and you can do driveways.

That happened a lot last year. So far it's been a nice season, rain-wise. We got almost an inch on June 6th (which was a complete surprise), and we may get that again today.

It's basically for the corn's sake, since we planted so much of it and it can't be irrigated. Last summer at this time the corn was looking dry. We got an early start this year, and despite the cool streak a month ago, it's looking beautiful. Fingers crossed for July 4th.

163 I was at the local sportsball facility letting the grands run around with Basketballs and a storm blew in. Sounded like a million monkeys drumming on the roof with Ballpien hammers. We got quarter size hail for a good 20 minutes which plugged up all the drains. Then it rained for another 30 or so minutes. Turned all the streets into rivers and flooded the lower parts of town.

My rain gauge didn't survive. It got knocked off by the hail so I have no idea yet how much fell. I would guess at least an inch and a half in about an hour.
A lot of snow melted off out of the mountains and swelled the creeks to overflow.
I also left my truck window down as when we had left it was clear and sunny.
This year has not been typical of Norther Nevada at all.

167 It is one of the old bi-metal Thai coins, face value 10 Baht (current exchange rate about 35 Baht=$1). The temple on the obverse is Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn), which is located on the Chao Phraya river in Bangkok, and is one of the most famous images in that part of the world. It has been several decades since Thailand stopped making the bi-metal coins. The king, as noted by other commenters, is on the front of the coin.
To a collector, it is probably worth more than 10 Baht. I have several that I've had since 1966.

205 My grandfather and my dad both half heartedly collected coins. I have a small box that has mostly old, silver coins and a couple gold coins. I've valued them on the Internet off and on, but I'm dubious about actually getting a fair price for them from a collector or dealer.

Perhaps in the coming collapse a few silver coins will get me a can of soup or some matches.
