A man who fatally shot two jailers in a failed effort to help an inmate escape prison is set to be executed on Tuesday evening.
Michael Tisius, 42, faces a lethal injection at a state prison in Bonne Terre for killing Missouri jail officers Jason Acton and Leon Egley nearly 23 years ago.
Governor Mike Parson on Monday declined to grant clemency to Tisius.
‘It’s despicable that two dedicated public servants were murdered in a failed attempt to help another criminal evade the law,’ stated Parson, a Republican. ‘The state of Missouri will carry out Mr. Tisius’s sentences according to the Court’s order and deliver justice.’

HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) – Two people in Huntingdon County are facing drug-related charges after they were pulled over for traffic violations.
Sarah Pennington, 43, of Huntingdon and Shem Miller, 44, of Mount Union are both facing several charges for having meth and fentanyl, court documents show.
According to Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), On Saturday, May 27 at just before 8:30 p.m. an officer pulled over a truck after they observed it swerving over the double yellow lines.
Once an officer pulled the truck over, Miller, the driver, dove out of the vehicle and then lead the officer on a foot pursuit, according to the criminal complaint. Miller tried to jump over an embankment but fell. At this point, the officer tased him and took him into custody.

I think it is a brilliant move to end lawsuits regarding antitrust claims by creating a giant monopoly out of all the participants.
I see no way of this having any negative effect on the sport, the broadcasters or the players.

I also feel that Upton Sinclair's work on the slaughterhouses was excusable since both he and the industry were doing the best that they could do.

Once again, money talks and BS walks. If the "elite" players who stayed with the PGA feel screwed without being kissed, I have no tears for them. Once upon a time, free agency was fought tooth-and-nail by the owners in every pro sport, who believed it would be the end of their sport. The owners ended up crying all the way to the bank.

Omaha was very reverent for me because I read just how utterly shocking that first day was for so many American Soldiers running into the very gates of HELL. Even this many decades later, I walked the beach, saw the dreaded "shingle" and the massive German fortifications and wondered "How the Hell did we ever do this?

The graveyards above the beachheads were the answer to how we did this. Every man giving his last measure for FREEDOM to his dying breath.

The GREATEST GENERATION...never forget that.

I continue to think that the best possible outcome is a negotiated settlement that weakens Putin enough that he is replaced in an orderly fashion, like Khrushchev after the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Don't know the details but, knowing W., I'd bet they'll be okay financially. Mom's family was shunned years ago by their Amish community, and then of course, thrown out of the community. She went on to MIT and then CalTech for engineering degrees. W. was very accomplished also. They never could have children naturally so all eight are adopted. Yeah, a hell of a family all the way around. What a shame.

150 Nightwatch, there is a very good biopic movie about J.D. Sallinger called Rebel in the Rye. It shows his experiences in WWII. He was in the Normandy Invasion and fought through Europe to one of the concentration camps.
One of the best scenes shows the American soldiers solemnly eating steak the day before the invasion. They were solemn because they knew that they were given steak because they were invading the next day and it was going to be a bloodbath.

This was the full-time gifted-talented program. My classmates were some seriously smart kids. I was probably the dumbest one in the class. Our geography test was a map of the world - you had to name all the countries. Back then, an A was 94-100, B was 87-93, C was 80-86. Think about that: you get 86% of the countries in the world, in 6th grade, and you get a C. I got 73% of them right, so I got an F. I did, however, get the most capitals right (but you had to pass to qualify for the prize).

His death was not unexpected as he was battling cancer for several months, and we talked to him and reassured him that he would be reunited with his family in heaven; we often talked about the banquet awaiting, which is quite the enticement for an Italian, especially when food was no longer palatable to him. Ironically, his last day, when he was fading into delirium, he was reliving a cookout. He kept asking me to check the propane levels on the BBQ pit, and make sure we had enough potatoes for company.

The Japanese were wrong. Operation Olympic, set for November 1, 1945, was to capture the island of Kyushu, south of the main Home Island of Honshu. (Nagasaki is on Kyushu. Hiroshima is on Honshu.) Kyushu was to become the air base area and logistics base for the conquest of the rest of the Home Islands.

The next planned operation, Coronet, notionally to begin on March 1, 1946, bypassed southern Honshu (including Hiroshima) to invade areas around Tokyo, to isolate it then take it. The Kanto Plain, surrounding Tokyo to the north, west, and south, was the only sizeable piece of tank country in the Home Islands. Kamikaze boats based at Hiroshima would have been bottled-up in the Inland Sea during Olympic and Coronet by allied naval and air forces.

Earlier today, some people were posting about their fathers getting ready for invading Japan and how grateful they were for the atom bomb. My father was swanning around the South Pacific, working in the engine room of a resupply ship. But the Japanese kamikaze pilots didn't care what they hit. I've read about what the Japanese on the main islands were prepared to do in case of an Allied invasion. A lot of us would not have been born.

And yet, I've got friends who are thoroughly convinced Hiroshima and Nagasaki were totally unnecessary, and the Japanese were on the verge of surrender. (Of course, these same people are still whining about Hamburg and Cologne.)

I went through Pascal's Wager again to be sure and Pascal mentions downaide risk of damnation nowhere. Rightly so, as the conceptual framework is gambling.

So even on the surface we see Greta's and Pascal's Wagers re quite different. Greta offers only a less worse outcome.

In fact, Christian orthodoxy understands itself as a choice in favor of Heaven and not one of avoidance of Hell or Sin. Avoidance of Hell as a motive is sufficient but imperfect.

Moreover, Pascal's Wager is exclusive to Christianity as the reward of infinite well being is only offered by Christianity. And Pascal brilliantly points out it is a necessary choice for all who have heard The Good News.

It came loaded with Manjaro Linux, with the Plasma UI. And it worked, out of the box, with my first SIM, from my old carrier. Could make and receive calls. A little glitchy, had to toggle the "speaker" icon to get audio when an incoming or outgoing call connected. Then I switched to Rogers Wireless, and it all went to shit. I am thinking possibly some "convenience" cruft on their SIM card tried to install shite on the phone, and crippled it somehow. When I out their SIM in my old flip phone, it pushed 3 new "convenience" numbers into the contacts list. Some script had to run to do that.

Czechoslovakia, I think. But the amount produced was pretty tiny. I don't know if that mine was able to be expanded to produce the industrial quantities of uranium needed to extract a few kilos of U-235. There really wasn't much of a uranium mining industry anywhere until 1945 showed the world what it could do.

What is not so well known, in addition to importing thousands of rocket scientists - they also imported thousands of propaganda specialists, as well as chemical and biological warfare specialists.

Add to this, the federal government embrace of Communist “refugees” both prior to and during the war, America had a huge influx of very competent (strictly speaking) individuals who thought nothing of killing millions or upending whole societies.

The fact that America is FUBAR right now is no accident. I believe it can be directly sourced to a lot of these assholes they allowed to immigrate here and/or imported into our schools and military infrastructure.

9/11 was an act of war, against the only member of NATO that actually bothers to contribute their share to the alliance's defense even. So yes, calling for our allies to join us is perfectly reasonable since the whole point of NATO is a defensive pact.

Our allies' interests are irrelevent seeing as Ukraine is not our ally, and none of our allies were attacked. NATO isn't a wish fulfillment alliance, it is, again, a defensive pact. Well one ally was attacked, the inactive pipeline between our ally Germany and one of the belligerents, but seeing as our government is currently blaming Ukraine for that, the case for action is going in the opposite direction.
