The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"The mayor has explained over and over again, and under oath, he always intended to and always lived in North Miami Beach. We look forward to a speedy exoneration."Attorney, Michael Pizzi

Quote II

“It’s just a mess here,”

“We have in Chicago $160 million that was spent for the migrants with no records, no plan. And now we’re fixing to spend $51 million that was passed at city council with no record, no plan for 500 migrants for 30 days. That’s unheard of.” Chicago resident Andre Smith

How about a little humor on a Monday night?

Most conferences are a bore. Not this one.

A man strode up to a panel of OB/GYNs at a medical conference in Baltimore and abruptly slapped the speaker on stage — twice — while claiming the Long Island-based physician had sexually assaulted his wife, according to a video of the incident.

A woman who appeared to be the man’s wife calmly stood nearby during her husband’s nearly two-minute long, profane diatribe from the stage.

She was by his side as the pair later left the ballroom, footage shows.

Video of the scene at the May 23 conference went viral after an anonymous user put it on Twitter Friday.

In the clip, the man can be seen stepping up onto the stage, grabbing the stunned doctor’s shirt collar, and appears to push him back a step or two.

What was humor a number of years ago. Has now become reality in Dallas, Texas.

The City Council of Dallas has gone full retard. And since Texas is an Employment At Will State a firing will be legal.

LGBTQ ideology is the new racism. The Dallas City Council reportedly decided to make job “termination” one of the punishments for city employees who don’t use a person’s “preferred pronouns.” Apparently disconnect from reality is a job qualification now.

I wish I had this guy's tick resistance.

Richard Ostfeld gets a burning, itchy welt after a tick bite but has never gotten sick from one.
Research suggests histamine in the blood kills the ticks long before they can infect him.
He has acquired tick resistance, which may help guide research and development of a tick vaccine.

We went from winter to full blown summer without spring. And the insects are brutal this year.

So what's up with pot users and munchies?

Frequent marijuana users tend to be leaner and less likely to develop diabetes. But the pseudo-health benefits come at a price, experts say

The stereotypical cannabis connoisseur perpetually has the munchies but is, paradoxically, perplexingly thin.
Now researchers at the University of California, Irvine, think they know why—and no, pot consumption isn’t the secret to a svelte figure.

Not a healthy one, anyway.

Frequent cannabis consumers are leaner and less likely to develop type two diabetes. But the pseudo-health benefit comes at a price, researchers assert in a June 2 article published in Cell Metabolism

She also believes in Unicorns and Leprechauns.

Of Course We Should All be Working Less

All of this is to say that Bernie is right to call for fewer work hours. But why stop at 32 hours? We ought to start the conversation at 24 hours or even less. And the justification for fewer hours needs to go beyond what Bernie said about productivity. In other words, it’s not just that we have “earned” the right to work less because of how much more productive workers are now than in the past. We deserve the right to work less because the purpose of our lives as humans is not to toil for the benefit of the wealthy, or to toil to earn worthiness, or even to raise the GDP. We deserve to work less because we deserve to have more time to enjoy our lives.3 We don’t have to keep holding on to the bootstraps mentality or embrace the idea that we are a meritocracy—especially when social mobility has decreased, the rich tend to get richer, and the rest of us just keep working more.

‘Malicious and vindictive’: Woman says HOA towed late husband’s cars as she planned funeral
Dori Cousley says others treated differently, however

PLANTATION, Fla. – A South Florida woman is accusing her homeowner’s association of towing away her late husband’s cars while she dealt with his sudden death and planned his funeral.

Dori Cousley’s 59-year-old husband Richard died of a sudden heart attack.

“I was planning a funeral, planning a viewing, getting my sister-in-law here from Jamaica,” she said. “The other sister lives out of South Florida.”

37 Ahhh, yeah, the problem with the problem identified in the pot study: "Many cannabis consumers begin use during their teenage years" (so they doped up adolescent mice). Ya know, if you focus on the negative health consequences of boozing it up as a teenager, there might be some negative consequences too.

Maybe next time do a study of users who didn't begin at teenagers (at least not regularly; a couple dozen tokes between 18 and 20 isn't what they mean by heavy teenage use).

92 I had a novel experience today. The wife and I were on the way to dinner at a restaurant, and came to an intersection with a light. An idiot in a big pickup, pulling a trailer, had pulled into the intersection, blocking the road for us even though the light was green. He was a fool, but couldn't turn left onto the street, and was obviously embarrassed. An idiot young woman in an SUV behind me just LEANS on the horn for half a minute. Nobody could move, but I guess she just felt like venting. I lowered the window and told her to stop, and she just flips me off. Not briefly; she held it and looked me in the eye the whole time.

I could have gotten out of the car and kicked her ass, since nobody could move and she had nowhere to go.

1) She was an ass and behaved like a spoiled child.
2) She apparently thought she could act like this without repercussion. Luckily for her, I'm an adult, but sheesh. One day, she'll run into someone who isn't.

99 RethinkX has been posting a series of videos called "Brighter", with the tagline "The Future is Brighter Than You Think."

In this video, Adam Dorr basically lays out the thesis for how disruptive innovations work. He gives examples; he explains why RethinkX believes solar/wind/battery power will disrupt legacy power such as coal.

Their theories have mostly won me over, although I'm not sure I'm convinced that global warming is a real problem (they are). But I'm sure all of us Morons will enjoy Adam Dorr's debunking the IPC's energy predictions for 2100 (starting around 9:10 in the video).

RethinkX is predicting that "global warming" will sort itself out without anyone having to eat bugs, just because everyone will pursue the most economical technologies.

121 LGBTQ ideology is the new racism. The Dallas City Council reportedly decided to make job “termination” one of the punishments for city employees who don’t use a person’s “preferred pronouns.”

As a federal employee and military man, I know this is coming for me, too. I figure I'll just always use the person's name, and can therefore avoid the pronoun issue. "Of course I support Julie's (or SSG Weirdo's) pronouns, and will certainly use them if the appropriate situation arises".

All of this is to say that Bernie is right to call for fewer work hours. But why stop at 32 hours? We ought to start the conversation at 24 hours or even less.

The beautiful thing is, she doesn't have to wait to enjoy all the benefits of the Bernie economy! She can get a part-time job doing just 20 dollars a week, and either get Obamacare or Medicaid to cover medical expenses. Sure, she won't have as much disposable income, but I'm sure she'd agree that's not what life and enjoyment are really about.

The plant has been shut down since September. I'm sure that 95% of heat in the reactor core has been dissipated - unfortunately, the remaining 5% is still enough to melt down the plant.

It does buy some time to try to find a solution.

I'm not an expert, but stories last year said the dam wouldn't be breached by a couple of missiles or a top side suicide van; only massive and carefully placed underwater charges would do the job effectively. But who knows! I'm not sure how much credit we should be giving Soviet engineering work from the 1950s.

153 Multiple Kohl’s stores were evacuated in southeast Wisconsin after police received information of bomb threats on Friday.

i assume this is another Pride Month terrorist threat?

This is the hell that Trump and Fox News have wrought on us. When your protests involve threatening to blow things up and murder people, at that point, it is no longer about "protecting children". And also you also no longer peaceful protestors, you are straight up terrorists. It is way past time to start calling MAGA and its' enablers a terrorist group.

It's not about children. Never has been. It's about protecting straight, white, male hegemony. Nothing more. Let us not fall for the code words and empty excuses.

Not just white. It's mostly incel hetero males!

And don't forget the christian part! That's the root cause of all of it.
I want to be like - "Show us on the doll where the rainbow flag hurt you, MAGAs."

203 Columbia Army Air Base, South Carolina was NOT where the Doolittle Raiders trained.

The confusion arises because the four B-25 squadrons of the 17th Bombardment Group were transferred from Pendleton Oregon to South Carolina. Before the move a call went out for volunteers for a special mission.

It is from the men of the 17th that all the crews for the Doolittle Raid were selected. After these volunteers were selected they then moved from Columbia Army Air Base to Eglin in Florida to conduct the required top secret training.

No one knows what's exactly going on. There's only one source of drone video so far, and some are saying it could have been faked. Rumors have the Russian mayor saying nothing happened and the city is calm. Both sides are arguing how a bombing would benefit the other side; UKR trying to starve the region or RUS trying to delay any massive offensive over the Dnipro. I doubt any major news org will report until there's independent confirmation of the breach and some idea of what caused it.

UK Ministry of Defense reported in Nov '22:

“On 11 November 2022 the site suffered further significant damage, almost certainly because of controlled demolitions by retreating Russian forces. This was likely done in an attempt to hinder future Ukrainian advances. Three spans of both the road and rail bridges on the northern end of the dam were destroyed, rendering the crossings impassable. However, the three spillway gates below this section of the dam remained largely intact. The current level of damage is unlikely to result in major flooding downstream.”

Finally went outside, and called their help number, and got a tech in Moncton, New Brunswick. He tried resetting the network, but the phone stayed working, albeit with a vicious echo of my own voice, about a half-second delay. They guy did tell me that the new numbers showing up in my contacts list was a "feature" that most cell providers have adopted. I wonder what other cruft was pushed, too? I think that is what may have bricked the Pinephone. It cannot find its own modem, now. I will try a hard reset to "as delivered" and see if that fixes it.

343 So my observation from Commiefornia...listen up because this may be nation wide before you know it. Cal Fire identified the largest wide fires in the state with highest acreage burned in the northern region of the state along with fatalities.
Most of the biggest fires in the state began around 2017 and mostly in the northern state. The Federal Bureau of Land Management had not pursued aggressive burn control tactics for many years due to ...ECO Wackos' filing court proceedings against such management.

So now after so many traumatic fires in the northern part of the state (mostly Republican voting blocks go figure)
now STATE FARM and ALL STATE will no longer cover homeowners or future homeowners that wish to build.

OBAMA wanted to "re-district" home owners in the rural and urban landscape back in 2016...TRUMP shot that shit down. Newsome is fomenting a NEW way...

Ironically, I did recently work on a federal lawsuit over changes to the City's Hotel Conversion Ordinance which change eliminates the right to rent for less than 30 days (but at least 7) in two years. The idea is to force residential hotels that rent by the week to become rent-controlled apartments. The last time the City tried that, in 2017-2018 (without any amortization period), a state appellate court said, "Nah bruh. You gotta give 'em some time." But 2 years ain't enough.

362 SYMFEROPOL, Jun 6 – RIA Novosti. The upper part of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric station was destroyed as a result of the shelling, the reservoir dam itself was not destroyed, the head of the administration of the Novokakhovsky city district Vladimir Leontyev told RIA Novosti.
A number of Telegram channels on Tuesday night disseminated information that the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric station was allegedly completely destroyed. Some published shots of a collapsed dam.
«
"There were several hits at two in the morning in the upper part of the hydroelectric station where the shandors ( beams are located, designed to block the water passage - ed. ), where the gate is directly located, and it was demolished. The dam is not destroyed, and this is a huge happiness, "said Leontyev, RIA Novosti.

The water level after the destruction of the hydroelectric station went upstream by 2.5 meters, the mayor added.
Kakhovskaya HPP — sixth ( lower and last ) cascade stage of Dniprovsky hydroelectric power stations, located five kilometers from the city New Kakhovka Kherson region. Its destruction can lead to the death of thousands of people.

My dad's family, such as it was, was Great Russian. Nobility, even. Exterminated. My grandfather only lived by virtue of being in Africa when the reprisals kicked off.

They have a heartless, vindictive, petty culture that I don't particularly admire except for the grudging respect for the pure nastiness of it. If you have to deal with an asshole, pray he isn't a Russian asshole.

409 So the Chicago residents are upset that someone else is getting someone else's money before they do? Well I guess the thing to do is make certain the money comes from the federal government, that way most of it comes from taxes paid by someone else in a state other than Illinois. Oh, wait, that won't work. Taxes from someone else in a different state can only go to New York to pay for the people in New York from someone else's country.

Is there any way they could money from someone else on another planet to pay for someone from someone else's country?

The "funny" part of this one was the Dutch guy. He was wearing these skintight pants (before it was cool), so these guys just cut them off with a knife to get at his passport wallet. He came to pantsless, walletless, and PISSED.

He said he had a gun in Rotterdam, and he was going to get it, and come back and kill them. I hope he did.
