Christopher Wray: Since You Are Now Threatening Criminal Charges Against Me, I'll Allow Two Congressmen, Including Leftwing Firebrand Jamie Raskin, to View a Heavily-Redacted Version of the Bribery Document. How's That?

Fuck you, scumbag criminal.

FBI director will let top Republican LOOK at Biden 'criminal scheme' document: Chris Wray offers compromise on '$5million bribery' memo to avoid contempt charges

The internal unclassified FD-1023 form apparently details an 'arrangement' for an exchange of money for policy decisions, the Republicans have said

They issued a subpoena for the document last month and have threatened to hold FBI Director Chris Wray in contempt

By Morgan Phillips, U.S. Political Reporter For Dailymail.Com

The FBI will allow leaders of the Oversight Committee to view the FD-1023 form they say proves President Biden was involved in a $5 million criminal bribery scheme with a foreign national.

The internal unclassified FD-1023 form apparently details an 'arrangement' for an exchange of money for policy decisions, the Republicans have said and issued a subpoena for last month.

Oversight Chair James Comer and Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, spoke with FBI Director Christopher Wray by phone on Wednesday and Wray offered to let Comer and ranking member Jamie Raskin view the documents at the FBI headquarters in an attempt to stave off Comer's threat to hold Wray in contempt of Congress.

But Comer was left unsatisfied, and has said he will proceed with holding Wray in contempt if he does not hand over the document to the full committee.
Oversight Chair James Comer and Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, spoke with FBI Director Christopher Wray by phone on Wednesday

'We have been clear that anything short of producing these documents to the House Oversight Committee is not in compliance with the subpoena,' Comer said in a statement.

On Tuesday Speaker Kevin McCarthy backed up Comer's contempt threat - telling Fox and Friends he was 'prepared' to move forward with the charge.

'We have jurisdiction over the FBI, which they seem to act like we do not. I personally called Director Wray and told him he needs to send that document. Today is the deadline,' McCarthy said.

A whistleblower came forward with stunning claims that a file 'includes a precise description of how the alleged criminal scheme (involving Biden) was employed as well as its purpose', the Republicans said.

...

Comer alleges China indirectly paid off as many as 12 members of the Biden family in exchange for policy decisions.

Below, Comer says three things:

First, that the offer was only for a redacted version of the document. Comer says that he knows, based on his prior experience with the FBI, that they'll just black everything out, and then claim they "complied with Congress."

Second, that Wray's "compromise" of showing him thick black lines which obscure all text is unacceptable, and that they will continue preparing criminal charges against Wray.

Third, he says Republicans have already seen the document. And he says that Wray refused to concede the document even existed until he showed, by specifying the "five million dollars" payment, that he had already seen it and knew what it said.

So Wray is just fighting to keep this allegation -- which, let's face it, is 100% true -- classified so that no one can talk about it.

Comer says that document is unclassified. I have to think there's something the FBI can claim is "confidential" about it or something. They'll claim it exposes "sources and methods" or that bullsh!t. Comer says, by the way, that no sources or methods are exposed, but Wray will lie about it.

All they do is lie.

Instead, they just passed a debt ceiling bill that addressed none of this.

Weird...it's almost like the Biden corruption investigation is failure theater for the rubes.

My outrage meter has completely shut down. Which, I suppose, is exactly what the junta wants. Too many 'scandals,' too many 'stern letters' from the GOP-e, too many criminals laughing all the way to CNN.

The other side will smell the blood in the water. So I'll just produce it, like it's not big deal.

The only docs you fight tooth and nail to withhold are the truly nuclear documents, the kind that will completely destroy your case if the other side sees them. Like in a divorce if your client has video of him fucking the family dog. This Biden corruption document must be just that.

The problem, of course, is that Wray is untouchable, and Wray knows it. No chance Garland enforces anything against him. His only motivation is to try and avoid bad PR for himself or the Bureau, if possible. If it's not possible, then fuck it, get the press flacks to start writing stories about how the GOP is ACKSHUALLY the ones against law and order because they are being mean to the FBI. Rinse and repeat until the counter-revolution finally arrives.

The thing that ends not just Joe Biden, but all the people who propped him up, and the execrable FBI that dragged him over 2020's finish line and continues to do so to this day.

So I know how it'll taste if I take a bite. There's too much at stake. My guess is it'll be an adjacent-but-false allegation. Something with no subtance to it which can be debunked and use to dismiss anything else as "conspiracy theory" while the truth lies so very, very close to the facts of the memo. The major problem with screaming about Trump appointments like John Bolton is that it makes Trump's discipline against new wars all the more remarkable. Matti left the SecDef post over it. Could anyone stand up to the neocon pressure? Maybe RDS can, but there's zero evidence of that at the federal level.

But if you get someone from outside the system, the system will use anything and everything to subvert their orders and sabotage them.

To sum up. Trump supporters like and trust Trump despite his flaws and questionable decisions. DeSantis supporters like and trust DeSantis because he is promising and seems to be great on some very big issues.

The marks against Trump are his shitty decisions, his mouthy ways, and having been eaten up pretty good by the swamp.

The marks against DeSantis are that he was a card carrying Club Member until he wasn't and it's fair to question the timing.

Seeing as the last time Republicans had a young male firebrand who understood the stakes and was prepared to fight to the end for *us* and then didn't mysteriously turn on us, just happens to be never. But *maybe* this time the career politician Yale Lawyer is for real.

There genuinely is always a chance. And that's where we're at and it's probably not gonna change much.

There are two ways to look at the situation: 1) nobody has changed, and the results will be the same, or 2) it's not the same situation, and there are new people, and therefore there's a good chance people have learned, and things will change. I opt for 2).

-2- if he becomes president he might end having nominees recommended by the likes of rove and mcconnell (and mccarthy, if he doesn't lose the house)

Case in point. I think there's zero chance that D will listen to the Macs. He knows who and what they are, and he knows that governing like they want him to would be a political death sentence.

This is a fair point, Trump's second biggest flaw is his terrible choices for subordinates, taking terrible advice. He just picked a 90% pack of losers and aholes. He did have some good picks, but not nearly enough. DeSantis seems to have better judgement, or luck, and I'd take either.

Again, this is theoretical discussion, a fantasy land where we talk about possibilities, not reality. In reality, it doesn't matter who wins the GOP primary.

Never said he did. I simply pointed out that at the time Trump nominated Wray DeSantis also thought he was a great choice. Lots of people did. That is indisputable. But Trump owns the actual appointment because he is the guy who won the presidency. Twice actually.

One small thing that often gets overlooked when discussing Trump's appointments is that at the time almost nobody would even consider working for him. He was an accused Russian spy under investigation by a special counsel and he was vilified 7 x 24 by the left, the media and a good number of people in his own party. As others have noted, he was on his way to his favorite vacation spot not FBI business. Of course he was.

On the FBI's Jet:

The Gulfstream jet, though initially intended for counterterrorism use, has been controversially used by both Wray and his predecessor James Comey for personal travel, according to the report. The director must reimburse the cost of just a coach class airline fare when the plane is used for personal trips, despite it costing several thousand dollars per hour to operate the Gulfstream, the paper reported.

That's quite the claim. In an evenly divided Senate, it's also not very likely. McConnell can effortlessly inform RDS that his nominees are going to lose their votes, and embarrassingly so. What's he going to do, get Democrat votes?

Now, if the Senators are going to be set on fire, no exceptions, that's the kind of policy that could get me on the RDS team. But, spoiler warning, it's not going to happen. RDS can't get 1000 people to a "megachurch," much less run a revolution.

I dunno. 66 million? Lose about 5 million on net from working class non-Republican voters who only voted for Trump against the gain from some small number of upper class GOP voters who had been turned off by Trump's style.

But then the question becomes how many does Joe Biden win in a clean election?

Which then leads to the question of why are we talking about fairy land?

You know what surprises me about Trump supporters. The fact that they think he's ***owed*** the nomination after his relatively poor handling of COVID bowing to autocrats, losing his reelection bid due to his own incompetence of managing Democrat cheating, and the follow on of walking headlong into a democrat political trap on Jan 6.

He certainly merits challengers based on his records and he needs to demonstrate.

1. He can make quality nominations to positions other than SCOTUS. (I'll give him all the credit in the world for his SC noms and if he's nominated will gleefully vote for him again just for that)
2. He can manage Democrat cheating such that he can plausibly win.
3. He is ready to challenge the administrative autocracy of the US which is an existential crisis pushing us toward civil war.

If he wants my support in the primary. As of yet I don't see any of the three being met.

386 DJT will likely get more than his last 71mil votes. Ron will get some sig smaller portion of that. Significantly. Prob massively.

Very much so. Especially depending on how DeSantis "beats" Trump. If Trump is indicted, incarcerated, or barred from the primaries...many of his supporters will sit out. I think they'd support DeSantis in 2028 if he didn't run this year, but would be skeptical otherwise.

If you assume he doesn't get strong Democrat crossover and he doesn't get the people Trump made politically active, he'd probably be at 65m votes. Getting everybody Trump got + a little population growth puts you at 75m.

So somewhere in between those numbers unless he's somehow pulling in another group, my guess would be 65 to 70m.

389 Wikipedia, in part: A program of warrantless wiretapping under the Terrorist Surveillance Program, ruled unconstitutional by the DOJ, was renewed by the White House. Mueller and Comey then threatened to resign. March 2004, after private, individual meetings with Mueller and Comey at the White House, the president supported changing the program to satisfy the concerns of Mueller, AG Ashcroft, and Comey.

In 2013, it was revealed that Wray was one of the senior Justice Dept officials who nearly resigned in 2004, alongside then FBI Director Robert Mueller and Deputy Attorney General James Comey, due to illegal surveillance techniques the Bush administration had put in place under the Terrorist Surveillance Program.

There are two ways to look at the situation: 1) nobody has changed, and the results will be the same, or 2) it's not the same situation, and there are new people, and therefore there's a good chance people have learned, and things will change. I opt for 2).

Yes, Archimedes. You and I and I think Ace are on the same page on this. This is hte optimists point of view.
The pessimist point of view is that no matter what happens nothing will change. Okay, why not try something different then? You know the last time didn't work. You are just guessing that the new way won;t work. Why not try it out and see? If nothing changes, well you win. But if the optimist's point of view wins and their is success! we all win.

Posted by: sharon(willow's apprentice) at June 01, 2023 01:14 PM (t/2Uw)

392 >>>Ace, do you have information about DJT that is not available to others?

No, not really, except for the kind of general rumors that you probably hear. As I know a lot of actual conservative politicos, I have heard the stories of conservatives being blocked from appointment because Ivanka promised a job to a liberal NYC socialite friend.

I've mentioned before that Bret Decker, who literally wrote The Conservative Case for Trump (cowritten with Phyllis Schaffly and someone else), was told that his open support for Trump would *count against him* in his application. He had served in State in previous administrations, but now wasn't qualified, because he supported Trump.

Though that period people were screaming that Trump's minions were screening out all actual Trump supporters to fill the bureaucracy with NeverTrumpers, GOPers, and neocons, but I guess word never reached Trump. I guess Hannity never told him.

Or who knows, maybe he intended this, maybe this was him making peace with the GOPe.

I'm not so sure that's true. Assuming that the economy doesn't collapse and that DJT doesn't kick things off with a Pinochet purge, the Senators have no reason or desire to put truly incorruptible people in positions overseeing the security state. These are not reformable institutions: they must be burned, root and branch.

394 In an evenly divided Senate, it's also not very likely. McConnell can effortlessly inform RDS that his nominees are going to lose their votes, and embarrassingly so. What's he going to do, get Democrat votes?

I'd send him whomever I preferred, and if McConnell doesn't pass him, find another person I prefer. Keep doing it until either McConnell passes the nom, or the rest of the Senators get rid of McConnell out of sheer embarrassment. Either is acceptable.

450 I think we're all better off shopping at local options instead of the big box stores, where possible. More expensive, but better for your soul.

agree and honestly June is a great month to really cut back on non-essential spending.

I have this weird thing I call "non-shopping" where I go to like, Pottery Barn, and I pick out all this stuff and then I stop before the register and go through it all, thinking it over. then I put most (or all) of it back.

there's nothing to me like that feeling of lightness when I walk out of the store after that! I didn't need to buy any of that, and I didn't, and it feels terrific.

probably that's just a me thing tho.

so I'm not even boycotting I'm just non-shopping all month lol

Posted by: ace at June 01, 2023 01:14 PM (KRtlO)

Certainly efforts were made towards peace with the GOP, Chao didn't get her position for her strong historical support of Trump.

In practical terms I think the main thing that Trump might be able to drop in exchange for GOP support is his earmarks and lobbying bans, he's even been calling for term limits lately. If some grift gets the GOPe on board, well the savings by cutting it isn't worth the opportunity cost.

2. He can manage Democrat cheating such that he can plausibly win.
3. He is ready to challenge the administrative autocracy of the US which is an existential crisis pushing us toward civil war.

If he wants my support in the primary. As of yet I don't see any of the three being met.

2) I’m not sure any Repub can do anything without being arrested. It’s that bad. Trump is making noises about ballot harvesting. Does DeSantis have some plan?

3) Trump had the EO lined up at the end of his first term to reform the civil service such that anyone civil servant in a policy making position can be fired by the President.

458 >>>He's not owed the nomination, but he'll quickly mop the floor with everyone assuming no shenanigans.

Well if he can't handle shenanigans at this point he shouldn't get the nom.

>>>And if he does, many GOP voters will bitch and moan and sit out, which is their right...but they'll be butthurt when Trump supporters, if he loses, do the same to them.

If they sit out I think they are doing something very wrong. As bad as Trump is, he is better than every nom since Ronald Reagan. It shows they haven't learned anything since the Evan McMullin debacle.

But saying Trump should answer for his abject failures and preferring another nom because he really hasn't is not being never Trump.

If Trump is the Nom I'd walk into a poll site in Berkeley wearing a Red MAGA hat, over glass, to vote for him if I had to. But right now I do prefer DeSantis by about 70-30 (it started at 55-45, Trump has not done himself any favors)

Posted by: polynikes at June 01, 2023 01:26 PM (MNhXM)

460 I think Trump is making a mistake betting his campaign on his MAGA thme with this 250th anniversary shtick. I think people are really tired of the rhetoric and want solutions. They want illegal immigration stopped, they want inflation curbed. They wamt the green new deal put i the dustbin of history. They want biology to trump gender. In other words, we want sanity restored.
Like Black Orchid's comment, there does seem to be some movement. It starts with politicians starting to take a stand. Like DeSantis with Disney, DEI, mandates. There are also popular figures starting to say the right things.
Sigh. I am an optimist.

Except, if 2020 is the template, that's all he'll do. He'll tweet and whine about the 'steal,' but won't do anything concrete to fight it (and if he has any plan to overcome the built-in 2024 fraud, I haven't heard it).

The people on 'our' side will agree the election was stolen but - with J6 being stomped into their minds by tje MFM - will do nothing.

471 There is some historic evidence that says it was Lincoln's 'Cabinet of Rivals' that actually kicked off the shooting phase of the Civil War.

There was peace in place for months after the succession... then, against agreements that had been made, an order was sent to reinforce Ft. Sumpter.

Both sides were caught by surprise when the war actually kicked off.
Posted by: Romeo13 at June 01, 2023 01:22 PM (oHd/0)

Arguing they were caught by surprise doesn't make sense when the federal arsenals had been moved to the South pre-conflict. Furthermore everyone had raised their militias before Lincoln took office, that's pre-war mobilization.

They have been surprised how it started(like ww1), but not so much by it starting.

As the CDC is theoretically not under federal government power, I don't think he COULD fire Fauchi?

But yeah, that's his biggest flaw, the Wuhan Flu reaction and "vaccine" endorsement.

DeSantis' biggest flaws are his near-total lack of charisma and being so right wing that he terrifies a lot of people who might otherwise support him.

486 I'd also like to point out that Trump hasn't really addressed the DIE culture of US corporations which is also an existential threat. Coming down on Disney's side because doing so might sap DeSantis support lost him a bit of "Do you know what time it is?" points in my personal preference book.

I think he wildly misjudged that move; and I think he needs to stand solidly against corporate fascism. I'm not saying he has to pay his opponents compliments. But don't attack them for doing the right things. And be in favor of the principals of acting politically toward political actors.

The whole idea that you shouldn't be political toward businesses but impartial and fair handed is predicated on businesses being principally apolitical. Once the latter is untrue, the former also becomes untrue. You shouldn't be politically impartial to someone with a political agenda.

Concur. Fauci, Inc. covered their tracks successfully enough, and they were scaring the US population through their MSM outlets enough to make them as close to untouchable as any Administrative tool could be.

The eyeopener for me was Trump sending the USNS Hospital Ship Comfort to NYC for the city's health emergency crisis, and all he got was the middle finger for his efforts. After that, I took it all in as a political psyop.

498 Letting Fauci run his press conferences openly was a huge mistake.

I get why he did: he ran the CDC up front and center to be the face of his response to what was considered by too many to be the black plague of the 20th century. The overreaction is super easy to see from this side of events but at the time people were genuinely scared and Trump was doing his presidential thing.

Honestly I'm not sure how it could have been handled much better in a lot of ways. Certainly the shot was a mistake, and that wasn't hard to see coming, but people demanded a major reaction by the government.
