A commenter says this is a kind of Thai firework called a Ta-lai. Which is also Vulcan for "friction boner during the alignment of the three moons of Vulcan." That's probably just a coincidence, though.

79 So back to the disastrous home inspection, all of the utilities in the house are electric and apparently when the Inspector turned on all of the systems to test them, the house pulled so much current from the utility that the line coming from the service pole to the house heated up, exposing the cable and arced to the phone utility lines, catching them on fire and burned up all of the lines going to the house.

So If I go through with the purchase, I have to change out some of the electric systems for propane, which I really didn't want to do with.

I think there may be an issue with the utility not having a sufficiently sized cable to the house. They definitely have a problem with their circuit protection, since a fuse or breaker on their end should have popped (it is meant to protect the wiring from catching fire.

Arcing is a bad thing, but I don't think current itself will cause that, unless the cable starts burning. Lack of insulation and sufficiently high voltage does that.

I hope your main circuits are properly sized for your wiring.

The panel is a 200amp service panel, while I can't vouch for the gauge of the cable from the meter back to the utility, everything after the meter, going into the house looked appropriately sized, the cable going form the house to the utility, looked about as standard as one can devine from looking at it in the air.

I've been told the utility company has replaced the cabling and there is service going to the house again.

The inspection will be rescheduled and I will bring an ammeter with me and clamp it to the hot lines as we do out tests to see how much current the house draws when everything is turned on.

It could very well be that we are drawing the maximum load as we are turning on all of the baseboard electric, the stove, the dryer, lights and since it's relatively hot outside and the test case is something that would only potentially happen in winter when it cold.

The maxim is: Current equals Heat.

Since I did not want it escaping her feline clutches and wandering the house, I finally got it outside where PG followed and tortured it a bit until it got under some bushes and I managed to carry PG inside. She can hunt all the mice she wants, but she'll learn not to torture them in my presence. I hate that.

I am a happy camper as I have a shiny new GE gas stove! They hauled off the crappy glass top electric. The new one has a griddle, super fast burner and a simmer burner. I had to get one with electronics because the simpler models weren't available in the brands I was looking at. This is the first new appliance I've ever bought.
