And now for a first world problem that gives me pause: We went to a drive through car wash because the birds ate all my blueberries and pooped them on our white car. FWP part deux:
The gas station attendant had to turn off the car wash so the scraper would retract and we could leave. It was a disturbing few minutes, and then it hit us: what if you are caught in a riot in the middle of the road? Or if someone stands in front of your car with a weapon and intent to harm? The car was completely shut down - no backing up, no going forward. The object had to be removed in order for the sensors to allow the car to be turned on. We must re-elect President Biden in 2024.
I watched Putin's recent speech denouncing LBGT ideology in the West, with Putin comparing it to some of the social experiments conducted in the early Soviet Union. You can agree or disagree, but My God the difference in functionality between Putin giving a speech and Biden giving a speech. We used to make fun of the geriatric cases on the Soviet Politburo, but all of them were far more lucid than Drooling' Joe is. It is unbelievable that anyone would even consider Biden for a second term. For a guy that has been on the brink of death for several years now, Putin still knows how to deliver a speech. Retractions In 2011 Semenza retracted from Biochemical Journal one paper coauthored with Naoki Mori (and other collaborators), and in 2022 retracted four papers from PNAS according to Retraction Watch.[12] As of 2022, concerns about the integrity of images in 52 articles coauthored by Semenza have been raised on PubPeer. This has led to investigations by the journals where these articles appeared, resulting in many corrections, retractions and expressions of concern.[13] In 2023, additional papers in PNAS[14] and Oncogene[15] were retracted. Science is funded by big government, with maybe a wee bit of medical research funded by folks donating to St Judes, etc.
And I don't think they even try to teach them to be aware of confirmation bias the last X decades. So if you have little faith in big government, you should be pretty cynical of science, since the government picks who they fund and what they fund them to study. I was trying to figure out why my stew was so sweet this evening when I didn't use anything that had a lot of sugar. Then I remembered I used soy sauce and apple cider vinegar for the marinade, and the vinegar is sort of sweet.
I made the stew with discount "taco meat" that I got in the store. Beef, but pretty much all the bits that were cut off in butchering with a fair amount of connective tissue. Marinating it for 24 hours breaks down the fibers, and cooking it at a hard simmer with veg for about an hour makes it tender. Posted by: Kindltot at May 28, 2023 11:40 PM (xhaym) 205

Don't buy new cars. They have too many stupid modern things about them and they cost too much. For a fraction of the price you can buy something made circa 2000 which will be more reliable, easier to fix, and doesn't have any of that crap. I have read that the Chargers in Bullitt had to take it easy so as not to run away from the Mustang. At that point the Charger had a healthy 440 and the Mustang top engine was a 390 which wasn't all that strong. Mustang weighed a bit less but it was another year or two before a really strong engine went in them. Side note: the much maligned at the time 71 Mustang\Cougar and Challenger\Barracuda were as big as they were because they were.up sized to take big blocks just in time.for the insurance companies to price supercars out of the budget of the demo that bought them and kill the sales.

Spent most of the day fixing the wiring on my car trailer. The manufacturer (mexico) kind of cheaped out on the wiring. Where it came to a tap splice, they just skinned a half inch of the insulation off the running wire, and wrapped the end of the tap around the running wire, and used a glue-filled shrink sleeve to cover the joint. Which works if the glue completely seals the joint. Otherwise, they fail for certain. I have now redone all the joints back of the fenders by cutting, splicing, and soldering, which is how it should have been done.

Posted by: Lost In Space at May 29, 2023 12:34 AM (a175k) Heh. I have three of them. The '99 Chevy 1500 4X4 is dead on a car lot in Cedar City, UT. I think what happened is this: tranny cooler line blew, tranny lost fluid, dropped right out of drive, and cruise control opened throttle wide open, and engine spun a rod bearing. It lost oil pressure, and knocks like two skeletons fucking on a tin roof. Once I get my car trailer up to snuff, I will make a banzai run to Cedar City and fetch it home, with my 2008 3/4 ton 6 liter Suburban as the tow vehicle. It is up to the job. The replacement for the '99 is another '99, a 3/4 ton 4X4 GMC 'burb with the LS 454 engine in it, which I bought off the dealer in Cedar City. Needs some minor fixing up, but engine and tranny are solid, and got good gas mileage. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at May 29, 2023 12:48 AM (+fOe4) 285

I'm not a fan of Henrys, but these ARE good vehicles There is very little actual difference between the P71, the regular Vic, the Grand Marquis, and the Town Car. As you move up the price ladder, you get nicer interiors and more insulation. As far as the suspension, you can use whichever setup you want as to the tradeoff between ride and handling level. Biggest difference between them all is rear air suspension or not (and you can easily put coils on a Townie) and the rack and pinion steering on 2003 and up. Evil? More retarded. Useful idiots. That does not change practically the results though.
My uncle and Dad are very big into genealogy and checking the family history. They were discussing it while we were driving around yesterday. My Uncle seemed to be on a kick about trying to identify who in the family histories could read and write (this would be people in the first generation families in Indiana- roughly 1840s to 60s.) They were discussing some of the conditions for the soldiers of the Civil War on both sides (lack of food, footwear, poor sanitation) and I was struck again by something: how did the leaders of either side view their people?
