THE MORNING RANT: DeSantis and Red State Governors Should Intentionally Be Repelling Woke California Invaders
The media has been gloating about Disney punishing Ron DeSantis by canceling its Lake Nona development, which would have brought 2,000 colonizers from California to Florida.
The storyline the media is pushing isn’t true, but I wish it were. It is past time for leaders of red states to assertively push back against woke corporations who seek to relocate operations from blue states into red states, especially if it means bringing their woke workforces with them. We cannot afford to have any more Arizonas or Colorados, which were once conservative, but have now politically surrendered to the left-wing politics of their California invaders. Would Florida want to import all of California’s sewage if doing so meant more sewage treatment jobs in Florida? Of course not. So why would Florida want to import 2,000 Californians who work in the entertainment industry? Here is one of the many stories pumped out by the media, this one from CNBC: Disney Scraps Plans For New Florida Campus, Mass Employee Relocation Amid DeSantis FeudDisney has abandoned plans to open up a new employee campus in Lake Nona, Florida, amid rising tensions with the state’s governor.“…amid rising tensions with [DeSantis].” Heh. “Amid,” perhaps, but not actually related.
Citing “changing business conditions” and the return of CEO Bob Iger, Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney’s parks, experiences and products division, penned a memo to employees Thursday, announcing that the company will not move forward with construction of the campus and will no longer be asking more than 2,000 California-based employees to relocate to Florida.Disney was going to compel California employees who do not want to leave the Golden State to move to the Sunshine State.
Many Disney employees balked at the company’s relocation plans when they were first announced in July 2021 by former CEO Bob Chapek. While some left the company, or transitioned to other posts within Disney that would not require a move to Florida, others held out hope that the plan would fizzle out after a postponement.There is such a huge difference between “refugees” fleeing blue states and “colonizers” whose jobs relocate them to red states. My Tennessee suburb is experiencing an influx of Illinois and West Coast refugees. As I talk with them, overwhelmingly they are conservatives who have fled the left-wing mismanagement of their former states. They fled of their own volition - not because they were relocated – and they are making Tennessee redder. Colonizers are the opposite – they seek to remake their new home in the image of California. That is what happened to Austin and Dallas. Christina Pushaw of Team DeSantis gets it, while also pointing out that the 2,000 new jobs wouldn’t even be filled by Floridians.

Repelling woke invaders needs to be a priority in red states. I was only half-joking when I wrote that red states should ban organic food as being a poll tax on groceries. In Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has done a great deal of harm to the state by aggressively bringing in Left Coast tech companies and their woke employees, and seeding Texas to become a blue state. The sustainable organic tech bros to whom Abbott is ceding control of the state are hostile to cattle ranching and petroleum production. Free America cannot afford to lose Texas or those industries. But there is hopeful news in Texas (and many other states), with the transgender industrial complex having being barred from damaging any more children. Some people on the left just can’t live in a state where children are denied puberty blockers and all the other horrors being inflicted on them.
Good riddance to them. Laws that repel woke invaders are an excellent line of defense. Circling back to the Disney / Lake Nona story. It was never about DeSantis. The Mouse has a lot of serious financial problems.
Lake Nona has been on the chopping block for quite some time, with new-again CEO Bob Iger clearly opposed to it all along. This is from November 2022:
Also, despite the Lake Nona project being canceled, Disney still plans to spend $17 billion in Florida, creating thousands more jobs for Floridians, and best of all, Disney may help move some colonizers out of Florida and back to California. The Front Range had a solid telecom selector until the telecom bubble burst in the lat 90s, so had a decent technical workforce. The exodus from CA immediately followed the Tech Wreck, as CA companies aggressively expanded their CO operations. CO was skilled enough, much cheaper and its timezone is awesome because you can cover all North America hours pretty easily with offset shifts. A lot of people came from CA to CO as a part of that. As far as I know, CO didn't directly incentivize that move, but it happened because it made a lot of sense to do it.

A key point being mostly overlooked (although it's mentioned in one of the retweets) is the huge tax breaks Disney was gonna get for this invasion. Almost $600M! Wtf? This was a terrible deal for FL even putting aside all the woke nonsense.

He probably doesn't, and doing nothing is probably the smart play. Disney sucks and they're retrenching after pissing in the pool. Leave it at that and keep going after ESG. Broaden the limits on doing business with financial companies. Take it from "no business if you restrict oil and gas" to "no business if you, in any way and in any context, enforce ESG requirements of any kind as a component of any deal with any customer." Slice them to ribbons over ESG while Disney acts as a self-made loud distraction.

But keep in mind when that happened. It was 2012. Four years after CO went to cheat-by-mail, went even harder for Obama than it did the first time, etc. CO flipped in 2008 and spent the next two cycles running up the score. The state had been colonized and subverted before legal weed was able to happen at all, and it's just gone harder and harder left faster than I would have thought possible. They played for keeps in Colorado.

There is such a huge difference between “refugees” fleeing blue states and “colonizers” whose jobs relocate them to red states. My Tennessee suburb is experiencing an influx of Illinois and West Coast refugees. As I talk with them, overwhelmingly they are conservatives who have fled the left-wing mismanagement of their former states. They fled of their own volition - not because they were relocated – and they are making Tennessee redder. Colonizers are the opposite – they seek to remake their new home in the image of California. It isn't just a tantrum. The dissolution of Reedy Creek and placing it under the same rules as all the other special districts is a serious problem - possibly a catastrophe - for the assumptions that underpin Disney's operations in Florida.
Iger has said several times - and every time it's a major problem in terms of liability - that Disney was running Reedy Creek as an extension of the company and that Disney - not the District - was running the government and issuing the bonds.
Owning your own government is a benefit that is probably incalculable, and Disney has probably committed staggering amounts of fraud in the process. Iger can't keep from shoving his feet into his mouth every time the topic comes up. I look forward to the litigation - especially because the litigation will be in Florida courts...

It's a concentration thing more than anything. The politics of the entire state are dictated by the Denver metro area. Like most western states, most of CO is empty. There are some small town and ranches and whatnot, but well over the half the population is in the single city. Flip the Denver metro, and you flip the state. Dominate the Metro, and you dominate the state. That's all there is to it.
Compare that to a place like Ohio or North Carolina or Tennessee, where the places are much older and much more thickly settled. There are small towns, farms, etc. across the whole place and one city doesn't overpower everything else because everything else isn't empty.
The Interior West was very easy to colonize not just because of the small population, but also because of how those states were settled.

I check yahoo news sometimes, and I find it amusing the stories and comments are all rebuilt anti Desantis. They act like the second there is no longer protection against outside accountability and inspections, tourists will flee, the whole park will move out of state, gay rights will die, and the monorail will fall off its tracks and kill hundreds of people.
I do worry though that the accountability board getting replaced last minute in that shady 11th hour contract, that it is egg on Desantis' face. Was that really the case? I don't want there to be perception Disney "beat" him. But hopefully it can overruled or the deal is overturned.

I'm glad I got to see, and live in, CO before it became a total CA suburb. Arvada and Wheat Ridge were rumored to be full of "right-wingers," and CO Springs was supposed to be unfriendly to gays, when I was there in '97-'01. Even then, though, Californians were moving in and driving up house prices. I can only imagine with horror what it's like now.

More about Colorado -- the targeting started long before pot was legalized. Legalization was put on the ballot to get voters to the polls who would support Obama in that year's presidential election. Similarly, the right periodically puts right-to-life legislation on the ballot to try to draw Republican voters.

Health wise, he's doing really good, all things considered. Mentally, he's failing miserably. He's fighting rehab and just wants out. He doesn't want to put in the work, wants the doctors to just release him so he can go home where there's no one to take care of him and no way for him to get any better.
It's going to be a long, long road, this one......

there's an amazing thread up on twitter this morning about the Nordstream pipeline, from a claimed Whistleblower. (Ace may do a post on it later today) The posts claim to show precisely how the American military took out the pipelines, in amazing detail.
Now it's easy to say "yeah, anyone can right fiction, so what?" except they're backed up by screenshots of publicly available radar data from the North Sea, including one showing an MH-60R Seahawk loitering directly above the site of one of the explosions for 3 hours before, during, and after the event. Another showing a P8-A Poseidon flying directly to the site of the explosion, but taking off well *before* any explosion happened.
There's a lot more than that.

Probably a third or even half its citizens are ethnic Russians who consider themselves part of Russia. Another 20% -- easy -- are lower class migrants from other dysfunctional, shithole countries who have no interest in being Ukrainian.

I've ready plenty about how San Francisco is the car jacking and car robbing capital of the world, but seeing the video of these people in action is horrifying. Second half of the video where he focuses on the car thefts and shows the video of the criminals just so easily breaking windows and stealing stuff is just depressing.
Especially when he says he has had this happen to him, has had video evidence of the criminals and the police told him they could still not do anything. I cannot imagine living in an area with such criminality like that.

Ukraine is more or less the Cossack Hetmanate. Besides the Cossack aspects making them culturally different, they were a group of Rus not annexed when Muscovy annexed the rest and so are more culturally distinct from the fusion of Rus that became the Russians.

Ukraine is more or less the Cossack Hetmanate. Besides the Cossack aspects making them culturally different, they were a group of Rus not annexed when Muscovy annexed the rest and so are more culturally distinct from the fusion of Rus that became the Russians.
If this is of interest, you can read a lot more about Ukrainian history in a new book, the Russo-Ukranian War, by Serhii Plokhy. I'm part way through it, and it provides a large amount of historical background.

From a cultural perspective though it isn't really clear the Ukes are more different from the Russians then say the North and South Italians are from each other. Especially considering there are so many self identified Russians in the pre-war boundaries of Ukraine.

Economically, the ones from CA and the NE are pressuring the locals who don't make the same money and have a big check in their pocket from a recent real estate sale.
Housing prices are through the roof. My former landload wanted to buy me out of my lease because he found a desperate couple from NJ who would pay $1000/mo. more in rent. The competition for rental property in decent areas is crazy.

A word of caution: Many of you are aware that North Carolina is being colonized by left-leaning tech workers these past several years. What you might not yet know is that NC is also the preferred destination for lib Midwesterners who are nearing retirement, don't like DeSantis, and who think Florida's climate is just too damn hot, anyway.
NC leans red for now after being a swing state under 0bama, but you're going to see an increased effort over the next 10 years to pull it back toward blue.

Boise's been invaded. Never had graffiti until after covid. Long ago the sheriffs put a kibosh on gangs. Was peaceful for years. Now there's taggings, shootings. Sad to see. Glad I live out in the sticks on defensible property.

So, the GOP has been enacting laws and policy for decades that made their elected officials rich, but were ultimately suicidal for the party. We've just reached the end of that process, so why are Republicans surprised? Did they imagine the suicidal gravy train would go on forever? Yes, they did.

The last time I googled it there were less than 50 transgender surgeries don on minors in the entire USA
