Rolling Stone: Dianne Feinstein Is Mentally Unable to Serve as Senator; It Is Her Aides Who Actually Make All of "Her" Policy, Not Feinstein Herself; This Has Been Going On For a Long While, and "Journalists" Have Conspired to Cover It Up

Usually I'd say "don't trust Rolling Stone" but in this case, they certainly have leftwing sources and they're acting against their typical partisan interest. (Of course, their current partisan interest is to drive Feinstein out of the pretense of holding office so that a real c0cksvcker can be appointed to fill her seat, like Adam Schiff.)

This is grim stuff. Her handlers are basically playing Congressional Weekend at Bernie's just so they don't have to update their resumes.

Dianne Feinstein, 89, returned to Congress this week, ending an almost three-month medical absence that highlighted her advanced age and deteriorating health. But her decline, and the problems it entails for American democracy, date back farther and go deeper than has been publicly known.

Multiple sources tell Rolling Stone that in recent years Feinstein's office had an on-call system -- unbeknownst to Feinstein herself -- to prevent the senator from ever walking around the Capitol on her own. At any given moment there was a staff member ready to jump up and stroll alongside the senator if she left her office, worried about what she'd say to reporters if left unsupervised. The system has been in place for years.

"They will not let her leave by herself, but she doesn't even know it," says Jamarcus Purley, a former staffer.

Senators juggle a heavy schedule of votes, hearings and meetings on a wide range of subjects. Momentary lapses and mixups about a topic are far from unheard of. But over the last several years, interviews with Feinstein devolved into confusion on a near-daily basis. A familiar pattern would emerge: Feinstein would make an unexpected stance on a bill or policy position, only for her staff to quickly follow up by email to correct the record. It got to the point where reporters would pause before rushing to publish an otherwise-newsworthy declaration because of the inevitability of staff reversing her statement.

What a surprise -- "journalists" were in on the conspiracy to hide very important information from the public. They knew that Feinstein was demented and would issue statements that her handlers -- elected by nobody -- would then veto.

Instead of reporting that fact, they just stopped reporting her statements until the staffers gave them the Staffers' Consensus Position.

Again, no one elected her staffers to do anything, to make statements, take positions, or decide on how to vote.

But that's what's going on.

Feinstein once notably seemed to forget she had relinquished her role as third in line to the presidency. As the longest-serving member of the Senate majority, she would traditionally serve as president pro tempore, behind only the vice president and speaker of the House in the line of succession. Feinstein announced last October via a written statement she would voluntarily give up the title. But when asked about it three weeks later she told a reporter she was still considering what to do. The staffer quickly corrected the Senator.

Again: The staffers who nobody elected actually made this decision. The demented Feinstein knew nothing about it.

...

Feinstein's office did not respond to a request for comment.

Her staffers didn't want to comment on their illegal usurpation of the power of an elected senator.

They also, I imagine, failed to tell Feinstein about this inquiry into their illegal usurpation of the power of an elected senator.

Amid questions about her health last summer, Feinstein's office released a statement saying she has had a hard time adjusting to the death of her husband but remains heavily engaged in legislating, including fighting to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, introducing the Respect For Marriage Act, and contributing to gun safety legislation. "I've remained committed to achieving results for my state and I would put my record up against anyone's," she said via the statement.

LOL. She wrote that, right?

In April of last year, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that some of Feinstein's colleagues had begun to question her ability to fulfill the duties of her office, bringing new scrutiny to the senator. But as her health struggles played out in public, behind the scenes, staff tried to uphold the illusion of a normal, functional office while she displayed clear signs of cognitive decline.

Purley described office meetings where an issue would be discussed for several minutes, only for Feinstein to bring up the same topic later in the same meeting. Senior staff would then run through the whole conversation again as if they were saying it for the first time, to the discomfort of everyone in the room except for Feinstein. Another witness corroborated this account.

...
One person who did not want to be named recounted Feinstein asking a staffer for a memo, then responding with bewilderment when the memo was turned in the next day. These issues are longstanding: last summer, almost a year ago, one person who had worked with her and asked not to be named said "her days are all bad days now." Feinstein's acuity gets worse as the day goes on, multiple people told Rolling Stone, and staff have long tried to avoid her having any engagements after mid-afternoon.

Another sundowner.

I don't want to mock Alzheimer's and general dementia but we expect people to retire when their minds start to go. We do not keep them as the top-ranking senator and president of the United States.

Purley said Feinstein's office began noticeably restructuring around her mental limitations in 2019. He said that year formerly large staff meetings were cut down to only senior staff and people working on legislative issues. "Junior staff were making jokes about her cognitive decline. Interns were noticing it," he said.

...

In a healthier political system, an incapacitated person may be gently removed from a role crucial to the governance of the nation. That's harder to do in Washington, DC, which is designed to be run by the elderly.

This is one of many reasons that rule by committee doesn't work well in a crisis. There is nobody to make a decision. Everything has to be argued about and people bullied or bought into position. It can't act fast and it often can't act in a single direction at all. Some of the committee will do whatever they want anyway.

This is what I think most adequately explains the Afghanistan withdrawal disaster. Nobody was actually fully in charge. There were various opposing factions on the committees and they made parallel decisions for their own benefit. And when the crisis hit - in part created by they themselves - they had no ability to deal with it.

80 I've seen this same phenomenon play out with elderly physicians with dementia who come in to see their also-elderly patients admitted to the hospital and try to write orders for them. The house staff and nurses had a list of names of these doctors and anything that they ordered had to be run by a competent doctor (unbeknownst to them) before being approved. I remember this one doctor in his 90's who would round on his patient at 6:30 every morning, write an order for a (outdatedly high) dose of morphine for the patient (who also had a severe morphine allergy), and one of the residents was paged each day shortly thereafter to rescind the order.

The difficulty would be to come up with a workable way of effectively removing people who have lost their ability to function without providing the ability (and incentive) to use it as a partisan tool to just get rid of political enemies.

So... um... on that last bit, I guess never mind as the whole thing is a bad idea.

Bing and go. Dementia is a tragedy. It should not be mocked as such, and those suffering from it - both the demented person and the person's family that must help carry the burden - should be the subjects of sympathy and aid, not mockery.

But if those demented people remain in positions of authority and power without any ability to perform, the gloves can - and should - come off. These are not normal people, these are monsters. Few if any of those monsters are so far gone that they don't know that they are being used, or didn't know at the beginning. They know - or knew, when it still mattered - what they are enabling. I read something a few years back written by a North Korean diplomat who defected. Basically, he explained that there were two separate institutions--the official government offices which were hollowed out in power but full of corrupt officials living their best life and the unofficial Kim dynasty crime family that was hoovering up any loose bucks around and killing off its enemies for sport and to retain power.

Think we have something like that--on the surface, we have the Donk GOPe uniparty full of corrupt officials living their best life and we have the Deep State oligarchy that is hoovering up any loose bucks, killing or imprisoning its enemies for sport and to retain power, but also taking their act globally to do it.

302 The profligate (to put it mildly) use of Patriot in that video clip does allow some reasonable reverse-engineering as to what was happening. The two batteries, logically enough, have been allocated to protection of the highest-value potential targets. Unless there was a malfunction (possible), basically a ripple-fire of the battery implies a substantial attack on the high-value target.

Agnostic on the can-intercept-"Kinzhal"/nope-it-cannot thing, having no knowledge about the issue, but leaning towards skeptical about it. In any case, seems Kiev is a bit busy to be worrying about Hungary (wherever that whole thing is coming from).

Serious question here - should we expand upon the 25th Amendment to include the Vice-President, members of Congress and Supreme Court justices?

417 I was a Senate staffer for five years.

The truth of the matter is that no Senator makes their own decisions about legislation, policy positions, or anything substantive. Their staff meets with "stakeholders," assesses legislation and/or policy, and provides "recommendations" to the Member who almost invariably rubber-stamps them, adopts whatever position is recommended, and then goes to vote or co-sign or make a statement that was pre-written for him/her by their press staff.

The questions they ask in hearings are pre-written for them and they very rarely stray off the script.
The majority of them are meat puppets that are wholly interchangeable, Mr. Potato Head-style, with one another and the outcomes would be the same. Feinstein is a little more egregious because it's clear that she's non compos mentis, but honestly it's kinda ho-hum for anyone who's ever worked on the Hill.

You left out the staffers in that. The staffers actually gain more power when their officeholder goes ga ga or is more interested in decadence. Essentially, each senator and representative run a small empire and above the menials dealing with the public, the AA's and legislative assistants are either money or power influenced. Those seeking power will keep the rotted corpse of an elected legislator in their seat because of the risk of losing power. This is particularly bad in the Senate due to seniority power. Those seeking money jump to lobbying but to make it work, they still want to prop up the rotting corpse because often that is where they have the most influence to sway policy.

472 468 Whitmer is as dumb or dumber than Kneepads. However, she can fake it in public better than Kneepads. She's everything the Dems want in a VEEP nowadays: She can talk like she's smarter than a pile of dog sh1t and will do exactly as ordered by the people ordering Joe around.

========

She won Michigan after being a tyrant.

She's exactly what the uniparty wants. Sure, Detroit, shall we say, over counted a bit in Detroit to get the results, but she won.

491 If you're not a white supremacist, you shouldn't get really annoyed or upset when the president condemns white supremacists.

Typical Commy double-speak. Like justice, they have double standards. Their definition of "white supremacist" is very different than Normals.

"White Supremacist" in their language is a trigger word, devoid of any dictionary definition but carries the weight of "this person is fair game to maim and kill".

How does this actually work?

The Emperor being naked meme is dumb and not how real life works.

I've seen nunerous ppl pushed out of much less lucrative and important positions irl for much less.

And just do not say because of elections.

He had bright future...somewhere back in his past, but after getting fired he was interviewed several times, admits to a long history of alcoholism and drug abuse, mental disorders...claimed that his self destructive tendencies finally landed him in long term psychiatric hospitals..."Was finally getting the help he had long needed"

502 Every day that Dianne Feinstein misses votes in the Senate is a good day for America....... As a Californian, I am perfectly happy to let her take as long as she needs to fully recover from her ailments........... why would anybody push for her resignation? The three democrats vying for her seat and hoping she'll retire before November 2024 are Adam Schiff, Katie Porter and Barbara Lee...... ugh!

Posted by: Monica at May 16, 2023 03:38 PM (Ztr3O)

503 This is some really sad stuff - certainly for Feinstein. But what it says about our nation and the people who run it isn't sad, it's terrifying. This need to hang on to every shred of power, regardless of the larger implications for the well-being of our country is really, really frightening.

It’s well documented that Leftists and Pennsylvanians prefer their politicians as demented as possible.

Hell, if they could they would elect Ham Sandwiches with a (D) after their name on their thousands of fake mail-in ballots. It’s why diaper wearing demented Joe is a shoo-in for winning PA’s Electoral College voted in 2024, even if he flatlines (especially if he flatlines).
