That decision itself reversed a precedent dating back to the era of the Civil War that held complying with another state's extradition order was voluntary for a state.

Thurgood Marshall wrote the opinion in Puerto Rico v. Branstad that overturned the earlier precedent of Kentucky v. Denison. The court's opinion was unanimous as to the results with two concurrences--O'Conner and Scalia due to territorial status being different than a state.

I don't have any illusions about the Rule of Law except it will be applied by conservative federal judges but not by liberal ones. The Federalist society made damn sure that almost all GOP appointees are those of the judicial restraint school which means do nothing to rock the boat. John Roberts is an example of most of the GOP judges sitting on a federal bench (and to be true, most state benches as well).

SCOTUS for the Fed Judges and the State Supreme Courts for State Judges need to resolve the issue.

Legislatures can do some things.

But the most direct route is clean up elections then vote in AGs and Govs and Judges.

The Fed circuits are under Roberts' jurisdiction.

Most of my colleagues see nothing wrong with it to be honest. That is the curse of working in a deep blue industry. Even most of the Federalist society soirees are more concerned with decisions affecting corporate interests than they are about civil liberties and civil rights. There are a few exceptions about that have their pet amendment but for the most part, the legal profession and the educational support for it has trended blue for decades now.

Not really contradictory. Simply put, the GOP put people believing in stare decisis on the courts and the left puts activists. Thus, the courts have acted like a ratchet with rare retreats such as Dobbs and Bruen. Even there, the left defies the rulings as best they can without punishment by GOP judges.
That being said, there are still laws, there is still precedent, but it is a hollowed out facade of what the rule of law should be.

My legal predictions have to do with what the courts will or won't do. My personal predispositions are actually quite a bit like the Founders but that is totally ignored by our present legal system.

Chaos will continue until you get a strong man type ruler that clamps down on the elites--the only question is whether it comes from the left or right. Then you will get 'law and order' with a vengeance.
