James Varney at RCP: The State Department Is Refusing to Provide Any Information About John Kerry's Globetrotting and His Meetings With Foreigners

This is maddening.

There is no government authority where the government acts as a lawless criminal.

John Kerry leads an international jet-set life that might exhaust a runway model. If President Biden's special envoy for climate was not in Washington or relaxing at his mansion near Nantucket Harbor, he could be found in Brazil, Panama, the Bahamas, or Germany. And that's just in February and March.

While Kerry trumpets his meetings and appearances around the world, the State Department wraps the rest of his efforts in a cloak of secrecy usually reserved for CIA black box operations. It has refused to specify lists of people he is meeting with and who is advising him as he circles the globe. His office has stonewalled requests for budget and staffing information from legislators and government watchdog groups. In response to a Freedom of Information Act request filed last year by RealClearInvestigations for a breakdown on how the climate envoy's roughly $16.5 million 2022 budget was spent, the State Department said it could not comply with the request until April 2025, months after both the 2024 election and the expiration of President Biden's current term.

The secrecy surrounding Kerry's work is reaching a boiling point with the threat of a congressional subpoena.

Frustrated that Kerry's office ignored two previous requests for detailed information about its budget when his party was in the minority, Republican Rep. James Comer, who now heads the House Oversight Committee, sent what he labeled a final courtesy letter on April 25 and added that a subpoena would accompany the next request if Kerry's "powerful, unchecked position" continued to hide the information.

"The State Department has not provided any meaningful updates to Committee staff inquiries on the status of producing these documents," Comer wrote. "Envoy Kerry is engaging in activities that skirt congressional authority, threaten foreign policy under the guise of climate advocacy, and could undermine economic health. Yet, Envoy Kerry and his office are refusing to be transparent about their activities, spending, and staffing with the Committee -- and the American people."

Biden, who has identified climate change as the single greatest threat facing the United States, named Kerry the nation's first "special envoy for climate" on his first day in office in 2021.

His precise job description is difficult to determine, although Kerry has been given a seat on the White House national security team, and it is commonly referred to as a "cabinet level" position -- even though it did not require Senate confirmation.

Since taking office, Kerry has been indefatigable in attending conferences and meetings in far-flung posts and glittering capitals. His office has sent out his pronouncements to the press and copies of his public remarks from places such as Hanoi, Dhaka, London, Cairo (twice) and, last month, the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. But almost nothing is known about discussions and potential agreements made at his private meetings.

Of course he's meeting with Klaus Schwab. They all do.

Given the Biden administration's penchant for issuing sweeping executive orders, especially regarding the climate, Republicans worry that Kerry's undefined position could translate into unchecked power to commit the United States to binding agreements with foreign powers. Neither the White House nor the State Department responded to questions about the precise nature of Kerry's work, and whether he was authorized to negotiate treaties on behalf of the United States.

"John Kerry continues to negotiate deals with foreign governments, including the Chinese Communist Party, that potentially undermine the United States' interests," Comer wrote, without the envoy's providing any detail about the nature or scope of those deals or whether any have been approved.

He then introduces the concept of "hybrid warfare," which has seized the imagination of the intelligence agencies and national security state -- the idea that Future War is not just about tanks and infantry, but of words and ideas spread online, and to fight the Future War, we must declare merciless war on the Bad Words and Wrong Ideas.

In this way, he directly connects the Censorship-Industrial Complex to the Military-Industrial Complex -- they're both obsessed with winning the Future War. It's just that the Future War will now be largely fought on the "battlefields" of FaceBook comments areas.

This is kinda fascinating, in this regard:

Hybrid warfare allows the oh, let's say, useless people in on the huge pile of money that is set aside for national defense.
This is tailor made for college professors of English or Gender theory to leverage their way into importance and Money(!!!!) thru providing defense against Mean(!) Words(!!!).

Not longer do you have to be a near genius in the strategy of tank or naval, etc warfare, how weapons should be deployed. Nope. All you have to do is recognize Mean(!) Words(!!!) that could defeat us in Future War.

There is no such thing as a "binding agreement with foreign powers" that does not have Congressional approval. It's called a "treaty," and it requires Congress. Any non-treaty agreement is non-binding the moment that anyone says it is.

But yeah, I agree with the Republicans that Kerry's unaccountable spook game is unacceptable. Maybe they should do something about that. Set both DoJ and State budgets at $0.01, pass the budget, send it to the Senate, and go fishing. They can sign it or not, but there will be no negotiation.

Or, you know, write some letters and issue some more subpoenas in the vast theatrical performance that is American public politics. Whatever.

Real interesting question. While I am quite aware of the ethnic identity binding a substantial segment of the Inner Party, they aren't actually as vital to the leftist project as Dominion Voting Systems. In fact, the secrecy involving Dominion makes me wonder if 2020 was my first time seeing the true powers behind the world.

It isn't as important as I thought, however. The globalist system is collapsing under its own weight. When the federal debt to the vampire squid is repudiated, we will be a long way down the road back to reclaiming the country.

You can get replacement medals IIRC DOD will only issue one set of replacement medals per service member. That may have changed but we constantly get requests from widows and family members of deceased veterans who want to get the medals their spouse earned so they can make a shadow box after they die. You go to the US archives to start the process.

The entire Gallic episode was a minor operation in his strategic approach toward Rome. A strategic approach that embraced every modality.

Same with Napoleon. He was notorious for cutting deals with opponents during his rise. He lost when the overall context forced him to forgo his usual dealmaking. And he used huge amounts of "information warfare". Hegel was doing that for him.

But that would result in the government shrinking by 50% at absolute minimum and a lot of social programs going away. They'd rather keep riding until it derails and catches fire.

163 Kerry and Mitch Landrieu (Joe's non-Seante confirmed infrastructure boss-man) and several other Biden-hired people are what the President and everyone, media included, used to call Czars. The term "czar" isn't fashionable anymore for Democrats. But the job description is the same: Do whatever POTUS wants done. The czars define Administration policy and allocate money and other resources.

How is this legal, you ask? The czar sends "un-official" recommendations to Administration officials who do have authority to issue rulings and regulations, and to spend money. Congress gives away those authorities to SecState, SecDef, SecEnergy, etc. in the many, many laws that say, "The Secretary shall have the authority to..."

Illustrating why the Chevron case being reviewed by SCOTUS is extremely important.

Even assuming recent immigrants would go for that, no chance in hell, why pay back the banksters? Either way, deficit financing is over and no new loans will be made available. So instead you get the alternative:

1) All domestic federal debt is repudiated, period. Foreign federal debt will be negotiated. Creditors who do take a haircut will be repudiated.

2) Absolute embargo on mortgage payments. Anyone with mortgage claims on a primary domicile gets to keep the house. All groups like Blackrock and all absent foreigners get all but one of their properties expropriated without compensation.

3) Citizens in good standing get their loans forgiven. Enemies of the state either pay what is owed or do time.

261 Even assuming recent immigrants would go for that, no chance in hell, why pay back the banksters? Either way, deficit financing is over and no new loans will be made available. So instead you get the alternative:

1) All domestic federal debt is repudiated, period. Foreign federal debt will be negotiated. Creditors who do take a haircut will be repudiated.

2) Absolute embargo on mortgage payments. Anyone with mortgage claims on a primary domicile gets to keep the house. All groups like Blackrock and all absent foreigners get all but one of their properties expropriated without compensation.

3) Citizens in good standing get their loans forgiven. Enemies of the state either pay what is owed or do time.

Philly Inquirer News, April '23: Moms for Liberty is convening this summer in Philly, a backdrop for the group's focus on "preserving American Values" PA has the second-most members, next to FL, where the group was founded in 2021. (Moms for Liberty leaders said they hoped to draw 650 people to the Philadelphia summit.)

The article began, "Moms for Liberty, the controversial parent group whose members have confronted school boards and spearheaded book challenges and fights against diversity education, has chosen Philadelphia as the host city for its national summit this summer." (Planned for June 29 thru July 2 at the Marriott Downtown). Today the Inquirer also reported: Members of ACT UP Philadelphia — an AIDS activism group — and other advocates plan to rally Friday at 4 p.m. outside the hotel. Activists are also urging people to call the Marriott and demand that it “stop hosting hate,” and do its part to keep our schoolchildren safe.”

This has now turned into quite the local hooha. This today; Sanders, AOC & Taylor Swift this weekend & the 2023 PA Primary - with hundreds of school board seats up for grabs - Tuesday.

Yup. A lot of people's careers who depend on paper shuffling will be over, the bennies crowd will immediately start sieging the cities for basic necessities, and pensioners will need to be looked after by the people immediately surrounding them.

I do wonder if COVID wasn't fundamentally a test run for all of this, but it also doesn't matter. See, this is something I do not understand.

If the feds collapse, the effect is going to be primarily monetary in nature, right? The currency will collapse but the existing infrastructure to manufacture energy, food, and everything else will still exist. In fact, there will be incredible regulatory burden removed almost instantly from all industries across the nation.

A means of exchange will need to be established for the interaction between industry and the consumer, and banks will have a problem coming up with ways to gauge proper interest rates, I assume. However, the mechanisms of everything else will still be standing.

Assuming that people can remain fed and some of the stuff can be replaced, it's possible that ripping off the band-aid, doing a jubilee, and reissuing new currency could result in a mega-boom about five years down the line.

But the odds are probably better that it results in outright collapse. Like actual colander facemask collapse.

To the extent China hasn't already invaded, they'll take that action. It's to make sure the Chinese don't vaporize American forces in Japan or Korea that I would be ready to negotiate with them. But the realistic notion is total American withdrawal to the homeland, assuming the military units don't go rogue and set up where they are.

There will be major collapse under my plan, of course, but at least it's plausibly managed. America already needs election theft to stay remotely unified in plush times. Eisenhower as dictator couldn't hold a country facing corporate austerity together, and that's assuming he will have a completely united military force. Which isn't going to happen, unless you think otherwise.

On paper, but people waking up to find that their money is *gone* is extremely disruptive. The working capital dwindles quickly. Transportation becomes a serious problem. The physical infrastructure is still there (for a while - until it is looted and consumed like in South Africa), yes, but owned and operated by whom? How do you bring in goods or send them out? With the looting that would go on, you'll need your own army. When the food supplies break down - and they will, at least for a short time - the murder ramps up dramatically.

Collapse *sucks.* Which is why orderly bankruptcy - something we prevented in 2001, 2009 and 2020 - is so important. It smooths it all out.

It's the unwinding and immediate transactions that present an issue. It's hard to determine who owns what in the case of the federal government defaulting. As it throws a lot of other people into default. Same issue that exists with bankruptcy court except on a massive scale.

After people lose everything in their 401ks and bank accounts, it's also harder to do business for a while.

Who would necessarily trust "actual cash" as well? In most scenarios with this kind of collapse, you end up trying to operate with foreign currency as much as possible. Like USD in Zimbabwe or Venezuela.

It is interesting. When Argentina collapsed the second time they reset and pegged the peso to the USD with hard demands for national reserves, which worked until the government decided they needed more latitude and they are now in the same hole they have always been, every twenty to forty years.

fiat creates bubbles which cause collapses which cause defaults. Please remember: inflation, repudiations, haircuts and re-valuing are all defaults on the stated debt. The only difference is why they tell you they aren't paying you what you agreed they owed you.

All good questions- the answer is that communities would collapse to the most local levels of trust immediately. Groups and communities that survive would be the ones who can get the most guns protecting them immediately. Regions with lots of commodities would do the best. Anywhere with major cities would be in for absolute hell.

But then, a successful American warlord would be doing everything within their power to poison and destroy the cities, because they are filled with implacable opponents.

Germany, Argentina and even Brazil at times have pulled back from chaos, but they had to have a hard currency and belief that the central bank would not start playing games again.

One of the things that pulled England out of debt after the Napoleonic wars were the Peel bank reform acts, which required full reserve of all assets outside of demand deposits

The value of gold would fall relative to most goods. It might rise in dollar terms, but everything else would rise more. Smugglers could make a hell of a profit by buying it cheap in the US(after collapse) and exporting it to a stable country. Just like exporting diamonds and gold from Africa.

The argument for going to the gold standard (which, we cannot do) is that the value of the dollar is arbitrary, its not based on anything tangible and real. Instead, its based on the perceived value of the US economy and the whim of currency traders. Which is all true.

But so is gold. The value of gold is not magically set in stone, God has not give us how much gold is worth. Its also arbitrary, set by traders, and subject to the perceived value of the commodity.

Going on the gold standard does not change that, it just puts the dollar value one step removed.

What number would you need to revalue the gold at? Remember, if you take the number seriously then people will insist on trading gold for rapidly imploding Americadollars. If the government isn't making that trade, or doesn't plan to make gold for dollar trade a regular thing, that's not the real value of the gold. Either way, you'd still get the massive inflation expected in total collapse.

Gold is increasing in value because the UST is not attractive as a global reserve asset for those nations seeking to trade outside the USD system. This trend is increasing.

US gold is hugely underpriced (untentionally) and growing more so.

The US is unable to use this huge amnt of "value".

Re-valuing gold to something in excess of $20k USD/oz unlocks it. Or just letting it float per fmv does same thing.

Any possible sale is discretionary depending on utility. As with any US asset.
