8 oz Meat (cooked) or 12 oz (raw) per head

70 Just got back from watching GotG 3. Yes, I was bad and gave money to Devil Mouse. My need to see the story wrapped up overcame my principles.

In case anyone else is thinking of watching it, I'll make a couple of vague comments without specific spoilers:

-The movie subverted what a lot of people were speculating about how it would go. I'll leave it at that.

-Chris Pratt's character doesn't get ruined, if anybody was worrying about that. The writers didn't punish him with any beat-you-over-the-head Woke messaging. (Actually, there are a few mildly anti-Woke moments in the movie.)

-There are several instances of...well, I wouldn't call it animal abuse, since these are all animatronic/CGI "animals," but they look realistic enough that what's being done to them is a little disturbing. Be advised.

Anyway, I enjoyed it.

Howard the Duck was also a comic book in the 70's.

It wasn't the only comic strip to get movies done. You've probably, (and for food reason) put the Dick Tracy movie starring Warren Beatty out of your mind, and there was The Phantom starring Billy Zane. In the late 30's through the 40's there was a whole series of films based on the Blondie comic, and Bill Murray agreed to voice Garfield because the writer was Joel Cohen (who he thought was the Joel Coen who co-wrote/co-directed The Big Lebowski and Blood Simple.)

83 Let's recap: Carlson was successfully exposing the Biden/McConnell Neocon cabal so they had him fired. With no opposing viewpoint, Fox will pitch the cabal's chosen GOPer candidate DeSantis 24 /7.
With the recent purge of the anti-Neocons at Fox and other media outlets, and the selection of DeSantis as the presumptive nominee, the cabal believes the Biden/McConnell uniparty have won the war and are demobilizing - e.g CNN and MSNBC offloading of firebrands.
You'll see a further "softening" of the Leftstream media over the next 2 years as they work to manipulate GOPers to solidify the cabal's reign via a sham election between two cabal nominees - GOPer DeSantis vs Leftist Biden (or whoever the Left trots out)
They only politician proven capable of fighting the deepstate/cabal is Trump so YOU WILL get used to voting for him. Trump 2024.

This is very common.

The "I don't want to run out" method.

On the bar end of things, I would advise clients to purchase .5 servings of alcohol per drinking guest per hour.

They always thought I was crazy and would purchase 3 times my estimates and then load up 2/3rds of it at the end of the reception or party.

And they many times would purchase kegs against my advice. At one point I began bringing empty kegs to jobs and take their 2/3rds full kegs back to the bar with me and leave them the empty (for getting their deposit back) because they would say "what are we gonna do with all this beer?" at the end of the event.

This.
We had 2! kegs at our wedding reception. It was outdoors in a redwood grove. The band was supposed to play for 4 hours, they were having a great time and played for 8 hours (with breaks of course). We left after 6 hours.
1 keg was returned untapped and the other was taken down to the Santa Barbara Fiesta party that night and used up filling glasses (and any type fluid containers) of people walking around. The new BIL made a lot of friends!

But that's where the tax deduction is, not after you've reached the point where you're paying > 50% to principal (well, depending on your monthly payment). I have a 3.25% 30year at $931/mo. Since I now pay < $460/mo interest and my property tax is about $4,400/year, there's no point in itemizing my deductions. I should have refinanced 2 years ago into a 2.85, which would've meant borrowing to pay off the interest I still owed, but that would've front-loaded all the interest and given me a bigger deduction. Sigh.

Re the receptacle wiring photo. Yes, that's pretty bad in absolute terms. However, in relative terms, I've seen far, far worse.

One that comes to mind, one that took my personal cake, was something actually wiring to use the metal frame of a building as the current return, the neutral. Yes, Virginia.

Less than that, but still bad, using the bare grounding wire in Romex as a neutral. Didn't need no 3 conductor Romex for their 3-way switches, just used the bare wire.

You see poor electrical work, because poor electrical work can survive to be seen. Some of it will burn down your house or keep your Harley from starting, but a lot of dumbass electrical mistakes will just blow fuses or trip breakers, or make your blinkers not blink, or give you a good tingle when you touch the wrong spot on the outlet.

When you louse up a plumbing job, or a natural-gas line job--or, on a Harley, a brake job--the shoddy work becomes apparent much faster. And has to be redone immediately, by someone with a full set of clues.

You may wonder how did someone manage to use a steel frame as a current path, since well, it's sort of hard to do that, the way cable and wire is configured.

It was a local auto-repair shop, in the backyard. Metal construction, which evolved over decades.

The guy need some more 120V outlets on a "wing" of the place. There was 240V outlet, for a welder, IIRC nearby. It was fed with old 2-conductor, no ground Romex.

He just tied his 120V circuit off that. Pulled some Romex off it. Tied his white to the frame "that's yer ground whar" and fed his 120V circuit off of that.

Neutral current then flowed through the steel frame of the structure back to the panel/meter.

With 12V wiring, you can get away with that, 'cause 12V ain't a shock hazard under any normal conditions. Doing with that with 120VAC, and ooh, boy. you've got quite a shock hazard. Not to mention a sparking hazard as you depending on the connection of the steel back to the panel.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (Mzdiz) at May 06, 2023 02:20 AM (Mzdiz)

235
While it's not a shock hazard, I despise the frame return "tradition" of auto wiring.

Ever get a bad ground on a taillight, and it will do some crazy things that will drive you nuts.

240 >> what do you think about codes?

That's a many-splendored question. Think of it like laws and regulations in general. With common sense, and adhering to principles, they are a good thing. But they tend to go well overboard and get caught up a lot of bureaucratic lunacy.

I've been out of it for a while, not keeping up, but when I built this house, it was apparent the GFCI and AFCI shit had gone too far.

There is also "spirit of the Code" vs letter of the Code.

Finally, at the risk of sounding arrogant, I am my own Code. I know the subject well, been one of my passion since I was kid. I saw that blue spark the first time, and was fascinated.

There are things in the NEC I agree with, and things I don't. For me and my house, I make the code, the PEC, publius electric code.

The last inspected work I did was in 2013, when I put in a new service for my folks' well house. The old one was falling apart. Had to get it inspected before Mrs. Duke would hook up, of course.

The inspector came out, and just looked. He looked at me, and asked, "Don't tell me you did that?!" Yes, I did. He just signed off the damn placard right then.

He said anyone that would do something like that so pretty, so sexy, don't need no inspection.

Maybe Brits use that word order? Whereas we say red, white, and blue.

This bbc show is vomit. Prince Charles set up a thing called The Prince's Trust, it benefits some second-generation African teen who gets a role performing in some dignified place (maybe before the Queen, my mind was drifting), and declares disbelief that a Black man was allowed to perform in that place.

Don't know about the Brits but for the French the order is bleu, blanc et rouge.

The red, the white, and the blue were three divisions of the Royal Navy that goes back to QE I.

The order of precedence is indeed, red, white, and blue.

The Admiral of the White was senior to the Admiral of the While, in turn senior to the Admiral of the Blue.

I can't type. Admiral of the Red senior to the White.

Lord Admiral Nelson was a Vice-Admiral of the White. England expects every man to do his duty.

268 I woke up with an insight into the inner working of the average person who doesn't understand Liberalism and is either a reactionary libertarian or some form of totalitarian collectivist:

Consider traffic laws. There is a realm of human endeavor in which there is a universally acknowledged and followed at of rules which all must follow on pain of punishment or even expulsion from the society (i.e. losing one's license).

Lazy collectivists along with the real True Believers think that this is how all aspects of society must run, or else everything will be carnage and chaos and everyone will die in the wreckage. Hard libertarians believe that not even these traffic laws should exist, as we should all as a society just naturally develop a sense of how to pilot our vehicles safely, no matter how poorly or dangerously others may pilot theirs.

I'm probably completely off base. I'll let you know once the coffee kicks in.

269 Happy FIAF night, all!

King Chuck the 3rd... bleh... greentarded ninny. God bless QEII, for hanging on as long as she did, trying to outlast her first-spawn. She knew he was an idiot.

Posted by: JQ at May 06, 2023 03:39 AM (o0Fxd)

270 Wow.

Apparently hordeminde operates even in one's sleep.... considering how building code and traffic code are basically interchangeable for the argument.

Posted by: JmT at May 06, 2023 03:46 AM (mnBAX)

273 I suppose it's not that amazing of an insight after all.

Some people think everything should be ruled by an iron fist. Others think nothing should be ruled at all. Where in the middle everything lands is determined either by either legislation or imperial fiat, depending on how lucky you are.

Thanks, coffee.
