Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

4 29 c0ffee.jpg

***

Good morning Morons.

Just a few reminders and house cleaning items:

1) Feel free to opine and/or bloviate until the lovely and talented KT comes along in this open thread.

2) Be kind to on another. The banhammer is in the shop getting polished.

3) Remember to be careful not to run with sharp objects or you could be part of the prayer revival next weekend.

4) Have a fun weekend.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer
requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

3/29 – Notsothoreau asked for prayers for her co-worker, C. He is a young guy and the new
management is grinding him down. Prayers that he can quickly find a new job where he is appreciated.
3/30 – Hrothgar asked for prayers on behalf of Ed L., who is a member of the Moron Gun Club. Ed’s
mother passed away in Hawaii this past weekend. He and his brother will be busy settling her affairs
there (in Hawaii) over the two weeks or so. He did get to see her over the Christmas holiday, which was
a blessing.
4/1 – NaughtyPine’s mom is receiving hospice at home. She’s in decent spirits and seldom has pain; they
are hoping this continues. Prayers also for Dad, who has health problems of his own and is convinced
she’s getting better every day. They recently celebrated 58 years of marriage.
4/12 – Prayers are appreciated for Jane D’Oh and her family. Her husband passed away on 4/12. He had
a medical emergency on Monday, where his lungs filled with fluid, as happened in December. He
received CPR and was hospitalized, on life support. He was surrounded by family and friends and passed
away peacefully on Wednesday. She sends her appreciation for the prayers.
4/15 – Henry asked for prayers for his neighbor, Henry, who had a stroke about a month ago.
4/15 – Chopperpilot asked for prayes for Josh C., a USMC veteran who’s currently being treated for
stage 4 colon cancer. He’s fighting hard.
4/20 – Fenelon warmly thanks everyone who has been praying for her church and for those who
donated because of the kind outreach of Salty Dog. We are blessed by your concern. The Open Space
committee met in executive session the other night, and she has not yet heard what went on. She will
let us know what she does hear. Please also pray for Ray, their church patriarch. He is to be released
back home Friday 4/21 after being in rehab. Also Jessie, their beloved organist was in the hospital but is
now home. They are praying she can play for Mother’s Day. Playing is so important to her and she is
important to the church because they love her.
4/22 – vmom asked for prayers as she considers applying for a different position within her current
place of employment.
4/22 – gp sends thanks for all the prayers for Brian (old age pain) and Al (loneliness) – she saw the
results in their lives and appreciates it so much! She has a new request for her friend Larry, who
received a bad news angiogram is afraid.

4/22 – Tonypete asked for prayers for himself and his wife as they continue training to be Stephen
Ministers for their Parish.
4/22 - Swodog asked for prayers for his son, who was the student that the “Twerking Teacher” focused
on at last year’s prom. The son started at UF last fall but couldn’t focus with all the legal and social
media stuff flying around. He withdrew from school and is still depressed. His folks are praying he is able
to get better and re-enroll in the fall.
4/26 – Sponge and his family could use prayers of comfort, as his grandmother just passed away. She
was just a few months shy of her 99 th birthday.
For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the
prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in
a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with
the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it
to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an
update.

 Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but
the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows
the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

Martini, do you mean a single-edge razor, a straight, or a double-edge safety razor? I've never tried the first two. They are supposed to give even closer shaves than a DE does, but the idea of a straight, and of the maintenance it requires, disturb me.

Indeed. When someone dies at a ripe old age, my immediate reaction is that they were blessed to have lived so long.

My last grandparent (Grandmother Lloyd) was in her 90s when she died, and her husband had predeceased her by 20 years. On her deathbed she smiled and said she was ready to go see him again and quietly passed away.

She'd seen all her kids and grandkids grow up, and had 13 great-grandkids bumping into her knees during frequent visits. Her funeral was positively upbeat because she had lived a life full of faith and was with God at last.

I popped in and saw some of that and it proved to me that weekends are the only time I can be around here.

Yesterday I had lunch with friends of mine who are still "in the game" and I casually let slip my belief that there won't be an opposed election in 2024. Biden will win the Dem nom by "acclamation" and Dem secretaries of state will refuse to print ballots with Republican candidates on them. The courts will refuse to rule claiming separation of powers, and that will be that.

Propofol is a helluva drug indeed. Had it a couple of times for colonoscopies, and both times it knocked me out mid-joke. For some reason the anesthetist didn't ask for the punch line when I came to -- probably heard 'em all before from annoying patients who thought they were funny.

I came out from anesthesia (I almost typed 'amnesia') a few years back and I started singing a summer camp song that involved substantial changes in volume and vigorous arm gestures. That had the recovery area staff hopping to in order to get me to stop, I'll tell you: "You'll pull out the drip needle if you don't stop!"

I've used clippers on my noggin for 21 years, usually just before drill. I was very curious to see how much hair I actually had left since it had been in full retreat in my 30s.

Turns out, the boys rallied, dug in and I've got quite a bit left. My wife actually likes the look and my kids have never seen me with this much hair. One has to go back to my high school yearbook. While its 45 degrees and overcast, it's fine. When we get to 90, humid and sunny, I may make a radical change.

85 Biden will win the Dem nom by "acclamation" and Dem secretaries of state will refuse to print ballots with Republican candidates on them. The courts will refuse to rule claiming separation of powers, and that will be that.

Nah. Why do something so blatant that may actually disturb normies, when it's simple enough to get the desired outcome without crossing obvious lines? The Dem party cleared the decks in 2020's primary to get Biden to win the primaries without too much trouble...the RFK and a few other token opponents "oppose" Biden. They'll all get to talk liberal objectives, shift the Overton window to the left, and still select Biden in the end. They won't let Biden get too hurt

Same with refusing to let Republicans on ballots...unless maybe it's Trump. That's a major red line that seems undemocratic. Better to just rig the vote in blue metro areas and ensure the "correct" outcome.

-

I'm not sure how it will play out, but I'm borderline there myself. The coup was accomplished, they jailed political prisoners indefinitely, and the sitting "president" announced he would use the power of the federal government to prevent the previous president (who was re-elected in a landslide) from ever running or holding office again. It's up on the White House website and everything. And then state and local prosecutors began modifying the law to do it.

I don't know what 2024 will bring, but it won't be good.

Because crossing lines is the point. They're getting impatient and want to just stop pretending anymore.

I could be wrong, but given the way Dems kept crossing existing lines that no one thought they would do (with impunity, I might add), I see now limiting principle.

Anyway, having assumed that scenario, I can stop worrying about it and focus on other things, like my garden and getting more involved in the parish.

You have now!! It's from an album Eddie Murphy released in the early 80s. Mostly a recording of his stand up comedy routine. But that song was also on it. It preceded his album / video called "Eddie Murphy : Comedian". Which was then followed by "Raw". I could probably still recite all 3 of those albums/videos verbatim.

I recall people a couple months ago saying "DeSantis can't run without resigning! It's the law!" I tried to remind them that Texas used to have the same law, but they changed it very quickly in 1988 when Lloyd Bentsen asked them too. It was guaranteed that the Florida lege would do the same for DeSantis.

117 Another interesting observation from that link:

"As of March 2023, there are two jobs available in the U.S. for every one unemployed worker. ...The U.S. Chamber of Commerce acknowledged the ongoing labor shortage earlier this month. The corporate mainstream media have for two years blamed anything but the vaccines for the sudden deaths of young, healthy adults, even super-fit athletes and teenagers."

I hadn't considered that. I knew there were job openings everywhere, and wages for even fast food jobs are through the roof but no one can hire anyone.

I hadn't made the connection to death and disability.

I think it comes down to the same reason that Asa Hutchinson declared that he was running for President from Bentonville, aka WalMart HQ. These guys are are a lot more bought and paid for than even we like to acknowledge. They're the gimps on golden chains hanging around their master's thrones, doing nothing but their master's bidding. Someone from Disney promised a bag full of Mickey Dollars to KM, so of course he knuckled under.

It took a while to wear off, so Linda had to get me home by cab. But by evening I was okay.

159 I posted a bit yesterday on a great decision from the 11th circuit yesterday that not only was good in itself, but which also shows us the roadmap for the Reedy Creek lawsuit, which is mainly Disney vs DeSantis. Same people and courts are going to be involved all along the way up and down.

Short Version: Fed Judge Mark Walker is a far left psychopath who hates, hates, hates Ron DeSantis personally. The Disney case will be heard in his court, so of course DeSantis will lose that round. BUT the 11th Circuit hates Mark Walker as much as he hates DeSantis - this was clear in their ruling yesterday, which said that Walker was wrong on the facts, wrong on the law, and wrong in his conclusions - so on appeal, DeSantis will win big. Both outcomes guaranteed. (still a chance that the Florida Lege could moot both of these outcomes before they get to trial)

171 Why I say Judge Mark Walker is a psychopath - in his voting rights ruling that was just overturned, Walker had ordered the Florida Legislature to come and ask for his personal permission before they *ever* considered any voting legislation again; then he put in a long section about how the current US Supreme Court was Unconstitutional, and how he, Mark Walker, had more authority than the Supreme Court did. His ruling in the Reedy Creek Case will be great comedy.

The personalities are so strong, and hate each other so much (Including the 11 Circuit) that the outcomes at both levels are already guaranteed. I imagine DeSantis is rather pleased to see it go to Walker's Court, since the decision in favor of Disney will be completely unhinged douchebaggery, easy to overturn.

Note, they will not spend all that money on making Bud-Lesser taste good. I think they are just going to try to mind fuck the public that they are dumb and bigoted for not loving trannys and the way to show that is to buy Butt-Lesser.

It is their best-selling brand, so I think losing 1/5 of its sales is going to leave a mark.

Yes, most of the boycotts on things like Gillette or Bud are not enough to kill these companies, but that's not the point. We don't want the companies dead, we want to send a clear signal that wokeness is bad for business.

If the CEOs ignore that than they will eventually crater their company.

Kind of. There are 5 beer companies in the world that control the beer market. Outside of local breweries. The stuff you buy at the supermarket, is pretty much all controlled by a cartel. Inventory which owns Bud Light owns over 100 beer brands for example.

Gillette is truly a small part of P&G's portfolio. But Butt-Lesser is a very large part of InBev's portfolio. As I said the razor choices then available were small. Beer alternative are huge. Let's face it both Butt and Butt-Lesser are just terrible tasting beers.

Two very distinctly different scenarios.

For the big players, fighting for market share is like trench warfare, with gains measured in fractions of a percent.

Bud Light just had a whole sector of the front collapse, and its going to take years before any of it is recovered.

Also important to remember that even cartels can collapse. It's interesting to look at the retail giants of 30 years ago. How many of them even exist today?

Americans will buy any crap that has pretty brand imagery attached to it. All marketing and brand imagery are Lies. Clever marketers insidiously make people feel good about themselves when they buy the brand. They brilliantly leverage our vanity against us. If they step wrong, they concoct a new pretty dream, and people fall for the new one just as hard.

On top of that, Americans have extremely short memories. Last weeks outrage is this week's dim memory.

It brings me no joy to point this stuff out. I just have to call it as I see it.

I buy and support a local brewery for my good sipping beer.

I drank Bud Light from my early 20s (back in the 80s) until 2014 or 2015 or so. Still bought it occasionally out of brand nostalgia (even though, it really is bad beer) for things like family barbecues, etc. Probably would've forever.

Then they ran some sort of immigration commercial during a Super Bowl, I think, that basically called everyone racists for not completely supporting open borders. Quit them that day. Haven't bought any since.

I do buy Yuengling now for the family barbecues, etc. As far as I know, the Yuengling company is staying out of the Woke wars, but I'll have no problem dropping them if they decide to enter them.

I don't know much about big business, really, so I just assume these "companies" are not real, in the sense that the people who manage money have their fingers into everything, so when one "company" dies, they just transfer their wealth to the next new thing.

Individual execs here and there get shitcanned, but otherwise, the game goes on. And this ESG or EFT or whatever the hell they call it concept is in ascendency. Because the big money people know things the little guy doesn't. And they're not in the business of going broke, no matter what we do.

It will be a small sacrifice to not have a Negra Modello but I won't. Brand loyalty is built over years if not decades and it can go bye-bye in an instant... especially when there are lots of alternatives that, get this, taste beter.

The college experience is what matters, not education. So the job of college admins is to make the consumer (student) happy. Hence the customer is always right. And that’s why the administration allows all the work shit to happen. Don’t want to upset your customer base.

I agree completely, AHL. In the past large corporations made these superficial gestures to appease the woke. (Yes, their marketers were probably on board but I have my doubts about the top management.) It was low-cost and there was never any blowback from the normies.

But that era is over. The Mulvaney debacle was the straw that broke the camel's back. The vast majority of people are fed up with wokeness invading every single aspects of their lives: sport, deodorant, beer, peanut butter, and who knows what else. We all screamed, "NO MORE."

And CEOs are now learning that we are waaaay scarier and more powerful than the noisy by ineffectual wokesters.

Greetings, Martini Farmer ... For about the past 10 years, at the first sign of sinus anything, I drink straight cranberry juice, and also take high-dose cranberry tablets for 2 days (religiously every 4 hours) ... I also stop drinking anything with caffeine, which irritates my sinuses ... And while I still get colds and nasal congestion occasionally, the cranberry regime seems to have helped my immune system conquer the sinus issues naturally (without an antibiotic) ... I rationalize that the cranberry tablets make my "system" unfavorable for the sinus germs to multiply, which is why I start taking them at the very first awareness I'm getting a cold ... After several days -- once the germs have replicated exponentially -- the cranberry stuff might not be as effective ... Anyway, this is just a suggestion (YMMV).

LOL!

the scariest thing about the current situation is that we've succeeded in getting the entire World locked into the same economic fabric; one part can't go down without all of it going down. So the various failing parts will be propped up longer than would seem possible, because they can draw on any remaining strength in the other parts. But when any single crucial component fails, no matter what it is, the entire system will fail.

Already all of the fringe places are collapsing - Sri Lanka, South Africa, Sudan, Libya, Syria, Lebanon - every one of those places are versions of MadMaxistan. It's like a virus that is spreading slowly, but inexorably.

Australia's biggest flaw is power, and flooding. ALL they have to do, The ONLY thing necessary to fix ALL of the natural issues that occur in Australia is BUILD FUCKING NUKE REACTORS. Australia is I think, the most voluminous of all nations when it comes to Uranium. Get over yourselves people. Build some Nukes and Australia could be a real power in terms of production and transit.

420 Doing the Netti thing. Will look into the Nasopure/Iodine thing too. I think the infection is affecting my ears and balance. It's like I have cotton stuffed in there.

It really sucks getting old.

I had a course of Zpac for my sinuses that cleared it up and screwed up my gut, so be cautious about heavy antibiotics.

421 Australia's biggest flaw is power, and flooding.

Australlia (and NZ as well) operate historically like cartels. They can do this because of the political structure, history and the ability to control their borders and labor.
This allows them to hold "luxury beliefs" and be as unaware of the cost as opposed to the rest of the world as North Korea.

423 Could do lemon bars because I have condensed milk. Do 4 and 6 year olds like lemon bars?
Have blueberries so could do a cobbler but then have to get some ice cream.
I would do brownies Helena but then I would eat them and that would be bad.

Kindltot, don't you think that is what is happening here too? Government imposing mandates without any regard to cost or feasibility because they are so removed from day to day life that their enormous wealth shields them from?

425 "That's a really stupid thing to say about King Harv's.
It's a pretty much one-man operation now that "The King" (a retired USAF lifer) passed away earlier this year. The SF fantasy BS catalogue was cooked up in concert with Sarah Hoyt, who endorsed the concept just for fun. There is no corporate sponsorship. I can't wait until Hoyt finds out you called her a shill."

King Harv ads do not say "I am a USAF lifer, and I'm friends with Sarah Hoyt." They say, in essence, "We love the Horde." There is no incentive to buy the stuff other than an induced dream that a brand loves us. That is my point, and you knowing some backstory does not refute the point.

You mentioned 'corporate.' I'm talking about the insidious lies of marketers and brand image creators. Marketers work everywhere, not just in corporations.

If King Harv coffee tastes more "based" or "conservative" to you than other brands, go for it.

I'm shaking in my boots over the prospect of Sarah Hoyt getting mad at me. Please don't rat me out

427 Formica, I shall look forward to seeing your shocked face. Once click on the King Harv site and you'd have known the whole story, but you are a humorless scold and would not know good coffee it it were administered as an enema. Was the 15% discount not enough?

428 Rhennigantx,

I had been estranged from my youngest daughter (age 35) for two and a half years. This was out of the blue with no obvious precipitating event. She sent me an email one morning, and told me she no longer wanted to communicate with me. She suffers from PTSD (rape), anxiety disorders, and alcoholism.

I was at wits end and joined a NAMI group local to the area which has bi-weekly meetings. (Natiional Association for Mental Illness). It's been an eye-opener to the complexities of mental illness.

Last week out of the blue she texted me and we met for dinner. She engaged to a great guy who himself was an alcoholic who ran AA meetings where they met. Her demeanor reflected a huge growth in maturity and self-awareness.

Anyway, if you have an adult child with mental illness, NAMI sponsors excellent support groups, and first hand experience dealing with these issues.

I don't click on ads. Do you?

"you are a humorless scold"

I call em as I see em.

"[You] would not know good coffee it it were administered as an enema."

This is absolutely true. I'm glad to see that marketers have convinced you, through your vanity, that you know what good coffee is, and are evidently proud of it. You feel good about yourself for knowing that vital fact.

Yeap. They don't understand their own power, and they succumb to the parliametentary system.

Again Australia hs likely more Uranium than the entire fucking world, but they won't use it.
