Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant: Minimalist EditionGovernor Greg Abbott today announced the deployment of the new Texas Tactical Border Force to the Texas-Mexico border to respond to the growing border crisis at Austin Bergstrom International Airport in Austin. With President Joe Biden ending Title 42 this Thursday, the Governor is enhancing Texas' unprecedented border security efforts with the tactical deployment of hundreds of Texas National Guard soldiers to join the thousands already deployed as part of Operation Lone Star and serve on the new border force for targeted responses as the nation braces for an expected spike in illegal immigration. Sounds great, but it's just more theater from Abbott. Until Texas can deport the illegals crashing the border, and those already in the state, they are just playing Whack-A-Wetback. As J.J. Sefton wrote a few days ago, the solution to our illegal immigration problem is clear, simple and impossible to enact. Seal the border, end legal immigration for 10 years, enforce existing law, end benefits to illegals, tax remittances at a high rate (90%), end sanctuary policies, end bilingualism, streamline deportation of ALL illegals (including their children), and create significant criminal penalties for employing illegals. I would add one more...end the anchor baby scam. But before we can do these things we need a majority in congress that actually cares about Americans more than they care about the next cocktail party and their bank accounts, and a president who is willing to go to the American people and explain why this is the only way to save our country. And then we need three or four terms of presidents like that. Can anyone imagine that happening? Sefton and I spoke about the border crisis in the current CJN Speaks, and my conclusion is that absent about 20 years of hardnosed conservative leadership willing to do the tough and unpopular (with the media) things, our country is doomed. It's difficult to see any other outcome... Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Any Texas Tactical Border Force person photographed looking as if they are harming (not actually harming) one of these better-than-real citizen dreamers will become the MSM's and Democrats' 24x7 outrage loop. See: BPD on horseback accused of whipping illegals - didn't matter that they weren't whips, but reins flapping in the air, a standard part of riding gear.

++++ There is another option, but it has the potential to trigger a civil war: the governors enforce the border. Call up the national guard or state militia, send them to the border with loose ROE and instruct them to quell the tide. That would invite an invasion from the north by the national army, though, and would definitely trigger a legal crisis and probably a constitutional one. Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at May 11, 2023 11:03 AM (YIVH2) ++++ Yup. For our Morons who live near the border, keep your head on a swivel. This is not going according to plan. The plan called for a moderate to large volume of slaves to cross the border in an orderly fashion, with the cartels to the south and the NGOs to the north handling the transfer with some grease provided by the US federal government. They're getting a tremendous volume that is extremely disordered with way too many of them outside the control systems on the southern side of the border and they cannot be shoved into the control system on this side of the border. The Mexican army is also likely going to be involved, if yesterday was any indication. It's going to unfold into utter disaster. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at May 11, 2023 11:08 AM (DU+/6) 29

If the states and counties have the bullshit "emergency " powers to close businesses, close schools, close churches, force people to wear masks--in short, supercede all laws and the Constitution--then Texas sure as shit has "emergency" powers to deport illegals.
Abbott won't do it cause he is a cowardly country club Republican bitch. Because he has always, without fail, done the absolute bare minimum he can and only after trying nothing several, several times. All he has to do is declare it an emergency, issue deportation orders, enforce it with the state police and Texas National Guard and dare Biden to send federal troops to fire on Texans. He would also have to ignore the instantaneous federal court injunction--declare it has no jurisdiction to question a state of emergency. They're still a minority of the total, but a ton of the people flowing over the southern border are not Latin Americans at all. The pipeline and weak border are so well understood that people from all over the world use it. There are a non-trivial number (many thousands) of mainland Chinese using that pipeline to flee Red China. They hop all over the world to chain visas together to do it (like China to Hong Kong to Malaysia to Turkey to France to somewhere in Latin America). Once they land in Latin America, they find a convoy headed north and melt into it. Once at or over the border, they wait to be caught or turn themselves in, then melt into the interior. The Chinese are not the only ones doing it.

I have compared the border to a semipermeable membrane. In a simple chemistry model, if the concentration of a solute in water is different on two sides of a semipermeable membrane there will be a net migration of solute particles and/or water molecules until the concentration is equal on both sides, Granted, the driving or attracting forces at the border are multifactorial and much more complex than mere sodium and water molecules. These include poverty, poor social services networks, corrupt national governments, corrupt local officials, narco-terrorist cartels and rampant communism pushing migration; and perception of 'streets of gold', a better life, willing CoC employers (JOBS!), free health care (that is still better quality than back home) among other factors pulling migration.
Regardless, unless an equilibrium is reached or the semipermeable barrier is made impermeable, the migration will continue. Our current government has no will power to change the permeability of the membrane. Posted by: Muldoon at May 11, 2023 11:24 AM (ykeLU) 89

Sounds great, but it's just more theater from Abbott.
I have my criticisms of the governor. But I think announcing "just more theater" every time a politician with limited options and authority does what little he can is counterproductive and wrongheaded. Given the federal role here, about all he can do is create a spectacle in the hopes of keeping this situation high profile. Sometimes jawing or creating a scene is about all there is to be done, short of extralegal activities. The "Nation of immigrants" trope is an enormous fallacy when translated into our current "Diversity" model of society. When we were, indeed a nation immigrating anything close to today's levels (turn of the last century) assimilation was an integral art of the deal, and aggressively enforced at all levels of society.

Forget just along the border. Thousands of miles away & there's an influx of new "residents," drivers, school kids, food pantries (the latter for show more then necessity)... but fewer and fewer medical services, family stores, restaurants/delis, conventional churches, catholic schools, etc. The streets are dead by 10pm, with the exception of street racing.
Family doctors have retired in droves, former "for profit" hospital facilities - including skilled hospice care - closing &/or converting to rehabilitation centers & senior living. Urgent care centers are packed, appointments are unavailable for days. There's little point in going to an emergency room, unless maybe via ambulance. Drug addicts and homeless are walking the streets; narcan is readily available & often used. Half the public schools are trending awful & many of the kids attending will suffer their entire lives, in part due to a half-assed educational system. The other side of some counties are currently holding their own, creating parks & biking & walking trails as barriers. But even for those towns, I can't imagine how things will be in just another two years. They can't outrun the devil. Other ways to help curb illegal immigration would be pulling all international aid to countries who are allowing/ promoting it, also criminally charging and confiscating all money from groups within the US for funding much of it.

Chicago isn't handling unexpected immigrants well. I just had a conversation with Mom who was parroting what the “news” is saying about the immigrants unexpectedly sent to our city. Mainly, and incessantly, they are running the story of them not being sheltered and placed. While I agree that it’s bad, I don’t agree with the vulturous focus on their plight with zero mention of the culprits who created the problem. Federal intervention is needed. Perhaps Biden can issue an executive order preventing the practice? Or defunding border state immigration coffers? Or soliciting the establishment of federal shelter opportunities? From Human Rights Watch: Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s abusive Operation Lone Star border initiative...is a discriminatory and abusive operation that targets suspected migrants for arrest, prosecution, and incarceration on state misdemeanor offenses...“If the federal government ignores escalating extremism while continuing to fund the agencies involved, it could become complicit in ongoing abuses..." "an invasion of people whose world-view is alien to all of the concepts that drove the success of America."
True, to some extent. But the "invasion" is only possible because a sufficient number of "Americans" *also* utterly lack key world-views, sensibility, or even knowledge. Check out the language of the (yes, vapid, but still representative) idiots melting down over the CNN "town hall" last night. Or the same idiots terrified of Tucker Carlson not being "policed". The illegals (or legals), in many cases, have mindsets no less alien to the good distinctive American ones than a huge portion of the native-born public. There is another option, but it has the potential to trigger a civil war: the governors enforce the border. Call up the national guard or state militia, send them to the border with loose ROE and instruct them to quell the tide. That would invite an invasion from the north by the national army, though, and would definitely trigger a legal crisis and probably a constitutional one.

Toward the end of Trump's term when hundreds of miles of wall had been built the Border Patrol was reporting some of the best stats on illegal immigration since they started keeping stats. Of course it was working. It was one of the biggest reasons they needed to get rid of Trump. Oil and illegals.
During the 5 minutes or so I watched of the town hall, they were discussing the wall. I think Trump shot himself in the foot by saying he "finished the wall". He sounded like he was either lying or delusional. He then tried to make it sound like he was talking about only some sections of the wall, but he just sounded evasive dishonest to me. The court rulings on federal "pre-emption" were not, like so much else in the last few decades, indefensible legislating from the bench, or outright lawlessness.
It's a system where the clearly correct read on the situation protects/furthers a disastrous real-world situation (feds have exclusive power on borders and immigration, but if they fail to exercise that power, disaster results - and there is no legal recourse). So you have absurd lawlessness like the judicial usurpation in the "Muslim ban" case, and very well-founded straightforward reasoning as in the AZ case. Such Catch-22 situations are unavoidable in a large system - but that's why the system was built to have political solutions to such problems. Posted by: rhomboid at May 11, 2023 11:52 AM (OTzUX) 261

During Trump's term over 400 miles of new wall was built. The material to finish the rest of the wall was purchased and delivered to the job sites and is currently rusting in the desert. The contracts were signed to finish the wall.
Upon taking office Biden refused to honor the contracts and the government has been paying penalties for non-performance in the millions ever since. Biden could have finished the wall in a matter of months with the material and contracts Trump left him. He chose not to. If we had a real media everyone would know this. All of this is true. The only way to stop the cheating, and in general reverse the ratchet of barbaric totalitarianism, is to turn the ratchet into a water-hammer (like a monjolo, not like your boiler pipes going clunk). Make them cheat. Make them cheat harder and harder and harder. Make them make enemies. Make their whole crooked enterprise collapse onto itself. Make every click of the ratchet a deafening blow. Sure, it's a given that no non-annointed candidate can possibly win the next few elections. But we can damn sure make them look ridiculous doing it.

With my luck the Free Pony program will be shut down and all the funds diverted to the Go Live On Mars program. And it will be a lottery-based selection process.

>>Personally, I think it's winnable. Even the Dems would blanch at the level of fraud they'd have to perpetuate to win.
I agree. The stars aligned perfectly for the Democrats in 2020 and no star was brighter than the virus which enabled Biden to hide in his basement and give us mass mail in voting. Plus, Biden had no record to defend. Things are getting worse not better for Joe and the level of cheating they would need to win in 24 would make Chavez blush. Not sure this country would stand for that. Posted by: JackStraw at May 11, 2023 12:16 PM (ZLI7S) 367
Personally, I think it's winnable. Even the Dems would blanch at the level of fraud they'd have to perpetuate to win. Also, I suspect they would be not altogether unhappy to have the catastrophic results of the Biden years blamed on a GOP successor. Anyway, it's all guess and supposition at this point, so I'm not willing to despair.

Either it's hopeless, or it's not. I wish you guys would decide.
Posted by: Archimedes at May 11, 2023 12:10 PM (eOEVl) It is hopeless now. Our only hope is to make the cheat so glaringly obvious in 2024 to everyone that there will be a popular consensus to finally change the system. That is why Trump is Moses. DeSantis running in that environment in 2024 is a waste of a great candidate.
Posted by: Darrell Harris at May 11, 2023 12:11 PM (/iWhV) I've also believe this as well as the belief that a high percentage of Trump supporters will stay home if he's not the nominee. That's why though I don't want it, I think the only chance we have to defeat Biden is with Trump as the nominee. Posted by: polynikes at May 11, 2023 12:17 PM (FO8S3) 373
Let's reformulate all of this.
Say it's 1930-33, in Spain. Knowing what (some of) you know now, and regardless of what your course of action is, how much effort do you spend on dicking around worrying about elections? This is probably about where we're at. Posted by: somedood at May 11, 2023 12:18 PM (aNQwd) 374

the cheating works when it's close this one wont be close Even Meatball couldn't blow this one Posted by: REDACTED at May 11, 2023 12:09 PM (us2H3) ++++ I think that's old logic that has now been proven irrelevant. The entire "margin of fraud" concept was predicated on the assumption that after certain limits, the fraud becomes so obvious that it cannot be hidden and legitimacy cannot be claimed and thus the theft will fail. 2020 and some elections since then demonstrated that while the first condition is true, the second condition is not. There is no "margin of fraud." They can cheat however much they like. >100% turnout, coordinated count stoppages, double or triple-counting, false registrations, poll interference, whatever. Everything goes now and it doesn't matter that it's an obvious fraud because the theft will *not* fail as a result. It is perhaps - but only perhaps - possible that a true rout couldn't be overcome. If, say, 80% of people voted for the same person, it might not be possible to topple that through the demonstrated mechanisms of fraud. But that also won't happen. We can't even get 60% agreement in this country over what a woman is. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at May 11, 2023 12:18 PM (DU+/6) 376

"Either it's hopeless, or it's not. I wish you guys would decide.
Posted by: Archimedes at May 11, 2023 12:10 PM (eOEVl)" You could possibly get a GOP candidate in the WH. I don't think it's likely but you could do it. I don't believe it will make a single damn bit of difference. The masks are off and they are staying off and someone, or maybe even everyone, is going to lose before this is over. Posted by: JackStraw at May 11, 2023 11:43 AM (ZLI7S) I'd be looking at Chile right now. They just had an election very favorable to the Right. Or Paraguay or Uruguay, two countries that you practically never hear from. I'd like to see one of those three start to actively solicit ex-pats from North America, offering low taxes, secure land ownership, gun rights, etc. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at May 11, 2023 12:26 PM (tkR6S) 387
Except Obama did the Charlie Brown football-yank at the last minute and waved off, which has resulted in a relatively stronger position for the US. It was an exceptionally slimy move even for commies.
-- The US is much more "diverse" than Europe. Europeans complain more because they have less of a history of dealing with this demographic inundation. Also, they don't have the whole nation of immigrants propaganda. Posted by: Newly arrived American at May 11, 2023 12:43 PM (m1fIV) 388

We had everything that JJ advocates we need when President Trump was in office but yet with BOTH parts of Congress in G.O.P. control, that same Congress did everything possible to sandbag Trump's immigration priorities or to keep them unfunded. Trump HIMSELF did all the heavy lifting, the Congress be damned! And this is why nobody takes the Republicans seriously anymore. They are part of the problem.
Hey, I have a solution. Let's take every last one of these border rushers coming across at midnight and ship them to Janesville, Wisconsin. Preferably, let's deposit them right smack dab in front of Paul Ryan's house. Posted by: Tracy at May 11, 2023 01:15 PM (BbwyE) Processing 0.07, elapsed 0.0785 seconds. |
