My favorite toy as a child was a water rocket. It had a transparent red forward area, and a white rear area. You'd fill it up halfway with water, then attach it to a hand-held air pump and pump a lot of pressurized air into it. Then you'd release the catch that held the thing on to the pump, and it would fly maybe 50 or 75 feet into the air, blowing out water as a propellant.

My second favorite toy was a Fisher-Price parachute guy with a real working parachute. Cleverly, the parachute lines were made of some silicone-like rubber, so they did not, get this, get hopelessly tangled after a couple of uses and render the entire toy useless. I think GI Joe parachute guys used string to attach to the parachute, and could all be found on the floor of closets after a couple of uses.

You can also depressurize the surrounding air. I saw a guy on an airplane do that.

He had a water bottle with a built-in straw. Filled up in the airport. Popped it open at 30,000 feet. Got a nice face wash.

Then his girlfriend with the same bottle did the same thing. *facepalm*

Don't just twist the cap off to equalize the pressure, first, or anything.....

I'm a big fan of both eras. 2 different bands, really.
Saw the Hagar version live a few times. Gotta say, he did a great job with the DLR era songs. DLR was great for the years he was the frontman. But I think the change was necessary. VH was still heavy on cover band material with DLR. And he was becoming a caricature of himself.

Anyway the guest, who is an wildlife rehab specialist went on a rant about how nasty Sea Otters really are.

So far it is great, the kind of humor and performances that we grew up with on her show, from Steve Carell and Lily Tomlin so far, and there are performances from Bernadette Peters and Katy Perry to come. She got a big break from a member of the audience at one of her first LA revues, who lent her the money to move to NYC and try out for Broadway.

And then Martha Raye, who was to be on the Garry Moore variety show, came down sick, and they slotted Carol in, and she became a regular. Not only talent, but she had the luck too, huh?

As I understood it, sales volume is down around 20% (don't know about market share.) Yes, as I acknowledged, when they officially announce sales figures, the stock might take a hit then. But remember our spin? "BUD lost $7B market cap!!!!! BUD is dead!!!!!" That was referring to the stock price indirectly (market cap = stock price * shares outstanding.)

The only point I'm trying to make is that we ought to stop falling for our own spin. When every single conservative outlet starts screaming the exact same news text, know that it is spin, just as it is on the left.

True. Lucy's Desilu shows were always on CBS, and I believe Gary Moore's was too, so there was a connection right there. Moore's might have been a Desilu production itself.

They just showed snippets from the specials Carol and Julie Andrews did over the years, as early as 1962. In a 1989 one, they busily do slapstick and pies and shaving cream all over each other, very genteelly, and I'm laughing out loud. This was the kind of entertainment many of us grew up with: real talent on display.

Look at alternative airports, in particular the big'uns in London. The UK isn't that big, particularly given your experience as a Texan. The moto-g pure does weird things. Like when you power it on, it goes to an essentially blank screen. There's text at the bottom indicating you need to enter the PIN (but not in that clear explicit language.) So you press on the text, thinking it's a link or a button. It's not; it's just text.

About now the screen shuts off. You tap and swipe all over the screen trying to light it up. Nothing happens. So you hit the power button again.

Ah, the screen lights up! Now what? The secret is that the PIN keyboard is hidden lower on the page, and you have to swipe up to access it.

It's just not as intuitive or straightforward as I hoped. When she tried to use it, she ended up in all kinds of scary menus where she did not belong. I'm sure once you learn it fully, it's a breeze to use. That's what I need to do.

285 Those murders were at Cookieland. It was a camp for the Girl Scouts, paid for with money from the cookie sales. I went there when I was in the Girl Scouts and it was great. Places to camp in tents and some bunk houses. I happened to look up what had happened to Cookieland a few years ago and found out about the murders. Such a terrible crime. Camp was sold off, which is probably just as well with the way the Girl Scouts are these days.

The modern stuff is flirting heavily with rock, there's an organ trio group I like called "Organ Freeman" and they are excellent but delve in to the rock side of things. Same with Trombone Shorty, he does great jazz and rock, like heavy metal rock.

They're pretty big but not all that much larger than the Sams $1 ones. We hadn't had them in a couple of years and I wanted to get them for the kids because they liked them so much, but oh well. Also I think they were $3.25 the last time we bought them. FJB again. "8% inflation" my foot.

It was a good learning experience for them, though, because I gave them the difference in what we were going to spend at the Annes pretzel place and let them buy a book or art supplies with it. Something clicked in the youngest I think and he sort of grasped why we budget for things, so it was overall a good thing.

Yeah, but when one store can't afford to keep four pretzels under the heatlamp for fifteen minutes in case a family stops by, and then replace those four every 15 minutes, that's a bad thing. I doubt I'm the only parent who said "okay, thanks" and walked away. Have 50-70% of your customers refuse to wait and you won't have to worry about overhead for long.

I listen to a lot of Guy Clark, John Prine, bluegrass, etc. and had a modern group called (IIRC) the Builders and the Butchers come up on a random play the other day. They were grim as heck but I enjoyed it.
