Fox News' Ratings Fall at 8pm

Rupert Murdoch fired his most important anchor just because his ex-fianc´e wanted to cuck him with Tuck.

Fox News abruptly parted ways with Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson, the network's top primetime host, Monday morning. "Tucker Carlson Tonight" aired weeknights at 8 p.m. The replacement show, hosted by anchor Brian Kilmeade, garnered fewer ratings in the key age demo on its first night compared to Carlson's average a week prior on Monday, April 17, according to ratings website Show Buzz Daily.

The program had rating of 0.24 in the 25-54 age demographic, while Carlson's show saw a 0.37 rating in the same demographic April 17, the data shows. The show averaged nearly 2.6 million viewers in total, below Carlson's show Monday, which averaged roughly 3.7 million viewers.

So you might say: The ratings drop wasn't that bad.

But let me remind you: The 8pm Fox show was all the internet could talk about Monday, and Fox News claimed that Brian Kilmeade would address the firing, so the show was the beneficiary of a huge publicity blitz and was covering, supposedly, a hot story.

Well, Brian Kilmeade apparently spoke about Tucker Carlson for five seconds.

What would the ratings have been without that big blitz of publicity?

I bet you that the CNN Morning Show's figures went up on Tuesday.

Fox thinks that its brand is too strong to suffer any damage from one betrayal of its customers after another.

You know who else thought that, Rupert?

Your pals at Disney.

They don't think that any longer. They're in a panic over the poor tracking figures for Guardians of the Galaxy 3, which is their last hope to finally get a hit.

It's tracking lower than GotG2, despite Disney being pretty free and easy with leaks that someone, maybe several someones, will be making their last bow in a Marvel movie, if you catch my drift.

I'm seeing lots of online push for the film, too. No scientific measurements here, but it really does seem to be more than the past few MCU movies.

So Carlson's rating was 54% higher and his viewership was 42% higher.

And a big chunk of Kilmead's viewers probably didn't know - yet - that Carlson was gone.

17 Two theories I've heard on this is

1. People tuned in not knowing that Tucker is out.

2. People tuned in to see if it was true Tucker is gone or to see if they said anything about it during the show.

Real ratings will be next week.

Sure.

His being suddenly fired under suspicious circumstances (was it the lawsuit? was it Ray Epps? was it the vax? Is it the Murdochs?) is much more interesting and much more relevant to many more people than CNN finally getting around to firing an idiot asshole who got the job because he looked like Obama and who overstayed his welcome by at least five years.

InBev is the only surprising one, at least for me. Carlson getting fired is sudden, but not all that surprising. Unexpected, yes. Shocking, no.

The media companies are not in the money business, they're in the propaganda business. They don't *like* losing money, but they don't much care if they do. If they're important, they'll be bailed out. If they're not, they'll fail.

Discovery-Warner is the only company in media that appears to care even a little bit about making money, and that's largely because they were on the brink of failure. If they make money but aren't on-message, someone will give them a talking to and remind them that it ain't about the money.

Case in point, Hollywood is supposedly all about making a buck. And yet, they do everything they can to lose money.

Maybe, just maybe, too big to fail is not just for banks. Because none of these companies operates as if generating profits from a mainstream audience is the core reason for their existence.

========

I remember being convinced that Thor 4 was going to make a billion dollars because of its trailer numbers. That had goofy fun, too. It still made about $750 million (it might have broken even after costs and stuff).

I also think that people liked the first GOTG a lot, but the reaction to the sequel, especially over time, and Gunn's The Suicide Squad, have been much more subdued. I really get the sense that while GOTG may be the most valuable sub-property in the MCU right now, that's still not that much.

There is an interesting book "Barbarians to Bureaucrats: Corporate Life-Cycle Strategies" that has a chapter on "Aristocrats" which may best explain this phenomena.

There is a point where the top men of successful businesses see themselves as masters of the universe, the world will bend to their will. An example was made of the American Can Company where the owners were convinced that they had the golden touch and were invincible so they converted their company into basically a hedge fund where they could perform magic in any domain.

It didn't work out for them. But as narcissists who are immune to suffering the consequences of their failures, they will engage in all kinds of irrational actions that makes sense to them considering their superiority.

164 We won't really know the affect Carlson getting fired for a week. Some will tune in, watch for 10 minutes, yawn and leave. For good.

And for all we know, this is a extreme example of high-dollar negotiations. Look at the shit show that FOX engaged in with Bill O'Reilly, Me-again Kelly and Roger Ailes.

FOX doesn't mind engaging in character assassination, libel and sexual innuendos, so I can see them doing stunts like breach of contract and throwing Tucker off the air as a tactic, particularly since they were engaged in contract extension negotiations at the time of the ouster.

the problem with antman...along with loki...is the problem that Disney doesn't hire writers as much as skim fan fiction from autistic Indians who don't even speak English.

Loki and Antman are, how you say, more of a charisma thing. If you don't give them mouthwords that charm...then what's the point.

I've gone on about Loki but if you have Paul Rudd as an underpowered hero, then really you need to write well. And Disney cares about as much about writing as biden cares about women over the age of 16.

Soon enough I came to realize she couldn't tell commercials from programming (yes, Sean is selling catheters mom...). After she wound up watching the Dog Channel for 4 days straight and enjoyed it a lot I finally cut the cord.

I have a feeling a lot of Fox's demographic is like that, they just turn it on for noise and to see that nice young Hannity fellow selling catheters. Anybody who was actively watching Tucker will probably be reflected as lost in the prime time slot - and a few will tune in for Gutfeld later in the evening.

Bud Light had nothing to worry about for the first 2 weeks as well. I think it's hilarious if Murdoch really did ditch Tucker because his talk at the Heritage foundation made him come off as a religious zealot - even though he kept reassuring everybody he was Episcopalian!

The issue here is not him being gone, people come and go from jobs all the time, rather, it was how he was dumped and and what that exposed about the corporate power at Fox News. Fox News lies when they say they're fair and balanced. They are anything but that. With him gone there is nothing left. But to note, Fox News is the new CNN, imbalanced and biased. What is left?

Hannity? He and Miss Lindsay should get married and run off to the Bahamas. Both of them are RHINO party shills. All the other shows are dopamine for a particular viewer and that viewer is one that is engaged by new potato salad recipes and bad country western bands.

I will still drop in and out of Fox News but from now on they will be nothing more than CNN with better looking blondes in better looking clothes.

In all seriousness, what do the fans of The Flash want? To watch a man in a skintight outfit run really fast for 120 minutes? It's just so fucking dumb and gay, even for superhero stuff. It's almost Aquaman levels of dumb and gay.

In the comics, at least in the Silver Age, The Flash would time travel and have science-fictiony adventures. And there was the continuing discussion in the letter column: "Who would win a race, The Flash or Superman?" (The answer seemed to be, in a sprint, The Flash, but in a longer race, Superman because of his inexhaustible endurance.)

it would require some imagination, which H'wood lacks now. But exciting stories could be told about him.

>>In all seriousness, what do the fans of The Flash want?

It's not necessarily the Flash, there are only two DC characters that matter at all, Batman and Superman, so they have two Batmen in this film, they've resurrected a major Superman villain, ZOD, and they are using this movie to reset the entire DCEU.

And if the rumors are true, the new Superman makes a cameo at the end of the film.

233 Fox's highest rated show is now The Five, where they allow a few liberal nitwits at the adult table. Let that sink in for a moment and tell me that Fox's brand won't be hurt.

Long term the loss of Tucker will seriously affect their viewership. Tucker not only took in a key demo, but it was a very diverse demo. No other host on Fox had that kind of draw. Rumor is they will put Laura Ingraham in his spot. She won't attract anyone more then she already does.

I'm somewhat surprised people don't see the parallels with Bud Light. Fox has done some serious damage to their brand and it's going to leave a mark. People are already abandoning regular new programming across the board. It's no different at Fox as they were the best of the worse. I think once (not if) Tucker moves to alternative media it speeds the transition to alternative media. Then Fox can be left with Brett Baier and the rest of their phonies calling Arizona early to a bunch of people stuck in airports. They'll become CNN, or MSNBC, with more blonds and less racists.

I remember a missile hitting near Moscow months back, but that was a clean miss and Putin was nowhere around. Putin was in the war zone twice in the last few weeks and the Ukes did nothing.

Traditionally there are lots of tales when something bad for Ukraine is going on, and well Bakhmut is about to finally fall, so that may explain the discrepancy.

288 I'm somewhat surprised people don't see the parallels with Bud Light.

308 An observation:

When CNN covered Gulf War I, it had the news in its hands. New kid on the block grew up overnight. It was the beginning of the end of non-cable news. Then, splat. It's now the joke of news.

When FOXNews covered the aftermath of 9/11 and subsequent war in Afghanistan, same thing. It had cable news in its hands. New kid grew up overnight and that notched the beginning of the end of Leftist dominance in cable news. Now, it's in the process of being another joke in news.

This might be the last event whereby people who want honest news decide to go indie. The largest corporate entities have failed the public, and as real people who aren't as muzzled decide to take their coverage and opinion to the web (podcast/livestream whatnot), consumers are following and will now follow more.

I've gone from pretty much all-day FOXNews in 2001 to, now, zero. And, no, waving the American Flag or marching Clydesdales in front of NY headquarters isn't bringing me back. Good job, Experts.

Yup, the whole Reedy Creek thing was set up as if a large part of the State of Florida was to be controlled solely by Disney Corp - not sure that is even Constitutional to begin with - but to suing a state into giving a part of the state to become a company's sole government? Wow - what legal mind thought the US Constitution allows for that?

If Disney wins this, how soon before Google or Microsoft sues millions for acres in Texas or Kentucky to become sovereign governed areas for those companies?

An interesting theory/discussion amongst some of the U-tubers I try to watch is that these race and gender swapped movies are not really made to make money. They are made to destroy culture, and more precisely our culture. In 20 years and you mention Little Mermaid do you mean the fair skinned redhead, or the live action incarnation starring pick some non-white actress. Same with Aladdin's Lamp, which Genie will we mean. Rumors are that Indiana Jones was originally, and may still, become a woman.
The whole intention is to destroy anything that might tend to act as a cohesive force in society. Not sure I'm buying it, but I'm also not discounting it.

Some boyfriend broke up with her and she went to his house put his garden hose through the mail slot and turned it on. Apparently it was done on Friday and he was away for the weekend. That is vindictive b crazy

People that got their job by looks and being flexible are always surprised when they are gotten rid of by the same criteria-- looks and flexibility to tote company water. There are always plenty of hungry media hoes willing to climb over the existing 'talent' to get their jobs.

Most subscription services are for the whatever terms you sign up for. Those small print Terms of Service box people check and never read usually explain that in indecipherable, lawyerese. Almost nobody gets their money back once that little check box is checked. Just consider it money lost and cancel the service. Once the terms of service reach their end, make sure it's cancelled and make sure the sneaky bastards don't charge you again. FYI. I assume this is common knowledge.

Haven't heard the worst of it. Back in the 90's, the state of Arkansas was gripped by terror as a guy posing as a shoe store saleman would help women try on shoes and then suck their toes in his mouth. One woman, he chased down in the parking lot to do his dirty deed. When they caught him, he came from Toad Suck, and was instantly named the Toad Suck Fairy (Toad Suck being on a lake had a Ferry at the time). Now you know, ....the rest of the story.

Fair enough. I have an answer. Some here will not like it.

You can't make a rule to stop stupid - people are stupid. That stupid is not exclusive to Democrats.

But you can make stupid expensive. As you say, corps shuttle money to the CNNs because it's Pre-Tax.

The answer ... cue the howling ... is to severely cut the entire structure of protections we give corporations.

I didn't mind her on O'Reilly but that was just a few minutes. I've never seen her show.

430 Kilmeade's radio show (which used to be on in the ATL like 1 to 4 am) was actually pretty good, but oddly, no good for an hour long tv show...

Put on Newsmax yesterday, which seems so low rent (sorry, just no budget)
and Rob Schmitt, probably the best of those over there, said that ad revenue was down something like 50% from what it was for Tucker a few years back, so some safe, GENERIC guy/gal with only 2 million or so folks they might still have the same ad revenue. Ugh, hope he's wrong, and for once Conservatives will actually boycott (and still to it) More folks watch Newsmax, perhaps they will get an actual budget

As long as they don't get the bright idea of hiring Don LeMon, or Dylan Mulvaney.

433 Disney, like all of the other leftist loons, hates Chris Pratt.

They can't wait to kill off his character in what will likely be the most demeaning method they can whip up.

Forget Disney, they are a lost cause. I hope GoG3 loses them $millions.

If you happen to have a desert handy, you can take your TV out there, and shoot it. Very therapeutic. But do haul the debris home to dispose of it responsibly.

You mean let someone ship the carcass to a 3rd World shithole so that some 8 yearolds can get poisoned while they try and make a living salvaging gold and other valuable metals?

Hopefully, Mark Halperin isn't allowed to make any big decisions over there (does he pop up on newsmax like he used to?)

439 I used to have Fox on pretty much all the time, including on Sirius/XM in the car. No more. I might try to catch my Dyker Heights girl, Maria, on Sunday.
