The Morning Report — 4/24/23

greetwokesgmschaft.jpg

Good morning, kids. Well, you'll be relieved to know that SEAL Team 6 has evacuated embassy staff and relatives in Sudan as that shit hole descends into civil war and chaos (when has Sudan not been in civil war and chaos?). Meanwhile, thousands of ordinary Americans, who I assume are aid workers and such-like, are stranded in country with no hope of escape.

Sound familiar? Well, of course, Afghanistan, where Joey Sponge-Brain Shits-Pants' handlers decided to just bug out and turn 20-odd years of foreign policy failure into an instantaneous foreign policy disaster. But I also mean Democrat-dominated cities and states where roving gangs of thugs and criminals are free to rape, rob, loot and pillage because, racism or something – in effect turning nearly 60 years of Democrat-Leftist domestic policy failure into near instantaneous domestic policy disaster.

Case in point for today is the place known as Charm City.

All that’s left of the mall is a Hooters restaurant. Baltimore Brew’s pictures show almost every other store has moved out.

That’s the question before Mayor Brandon Scott and other city leaders, who yesterday gave Harborplace’s new owner, MCB Real Estate, three years to figure out a plan.

“The entire downtown area is effectively dead,” one person said who commented on Baltimore Brew’s article. They pointed out:

“Who in their right mind would want to risk coming downtown when the news out of Baltimore is all about shootings, carjackings, mugging, and out-of-control packs of teenagers milling about on a semi-regular basis?”

Democrats and progressive leadership in the city have done a wonderful job of taking something nice and destroying it with terrible policy. The consequence is an exodus of businesses, and it’s not just a Baltimore problem. Metro areas with progressive leadership, like Chicago, San Francisco, and Portland, are finding businesses are leaving in droves.

Baltimore has Brandon Scott and now Chicago has this Brandon Johnson, and the nation formerly known as the United States of America has Brandon you-know-who. It's Brandon's all the way down, people.

Meanwhile, as he's got his hands full fighting white supremacists and climate change while snapping training bras and stuffing his face with Ben and Jerry's Rachel Corrie Crunch, maybe the Americans stranded in Sudan should think twice about wanting to be rescued from a nation devolving into civil war and genocide and returning to a nation devolving into civil war and genocide.

An autistic Jewish teen had a swastika carved on his back in a heartless anti-Semitic assault at his Las Vegas high school — with the FBI now prepared to jump into the unsolved case.

The teen’s distraught mother alerted authorities after her 17-year-old nonverbal son returned home from Clark High School on March 9 with the hate symbol etched on his back, NBC News reported Saturday.

The mom, who said her son’s service dog equipment bag was also tampered with, has pulled her son from the school.

But because the school doesn’t have surveillance cameras in classrooms, locker rooms and bathrooms, the cruel culprits remain unnamed — and unpunished. . .

. . . Meanwhile, with the case unsolved nearly two months later, the FBI said it was ready to join the probe.

“We are aware of the incident and are in regular contact with local authorities,” the agency said in a statement. “If during the local investigation, information comes to light of a potential federal civil rights violation, the FBI is prepared to investigate.”

Oh, thank goodness! The FBI is on the case! That means another raid on Mar-a-Lago, or Matt Taibbi's home, or Mark Houck I guess.

Meanwhile, in another part of the forest. . .

A Utah state Republican lawmaker’s home was allegedly vandalized after he introduced a bill aiming to ban transgender surgeries on minors.

The message to State Sen. Mike Kennedy written in red spray-paint on his door read, “Fash” (abbreviation for Fascist) and “These trannies bash back.” Kennedy announced the vandalism on Facebook.

“To those who seek to use violence, vandalism, and intimidation to deter me from standing up for what is right, let me be clear: you will not succeed,” he said in his post. “I will not be deterred by your cowardly actions. The recent vandalism to my family’s home was not just an attack on me, but on the very principles our state stands for. We will not let fear and violence control our destiny.”

Kennedy called on the citizens of Utah to “stand up and push back against radicals who seek to push their agenda in our state.”

“I am more determined than ever to work with the good people of Utah to make our state a better place for all, especially our children, and I won’t back down,” he concluded.

Waiting for MSLSD, CNN and The New York Times to bemoan our descent into violence and of course blame Mike Kennedy. Not a peep from anyone named Brandon about this. In fact, there are a whole lot of Brandons out there inciting this.

Everyone knows the media reports differently on crime depending on the identity of the victims and the perpetrator.  But the selective prosecution of perpetrators is even more troublesome. Despite the lavish attention the FBI and the Justice Department spends on “hate crimes,” the Justice Department does not seem interested in protecting people victimized because of their Christian faith.

From January 2018 to September 2022, the Family Research Council identified 420 hostile acts against U.S. churches including vandalism, gun attacks, and arson. A Catholic advocacy group reports “at least 309 attacks against Catholic churches in the United States” with no arrests in all but 25 percent of the cases. And the FBI has apparently failed to arrest any suspect for anti-Christain attacks following the Supreme Court’s decision last year to overturn Roe v. Wade. There’s a sense that it’s open season on any target of leftist prejudice.

Indeed, it’s become quite popular to label those who resist or complain about race-based politics and anti-Christian rhetoric as “fascist” or “semi-fascist.” The label plays an indispensable role in the very successful libel campaign against Christians, conservatives, and people with European features. It’s a loosely defined group on which one may permissibly project blame for every social ill. Poverty, crime, pollution—it matters not. A public official can always deflect attention from his own failings by projecting blame on the “oppressors.” The process of demonizing and marginalizing a target group can take decades. Like the first few kernels of popcorn, the early violence seems random and unconnected. But once normalized, the violence moves too quickly to stop. . .

. . . American schools rarely teach about the demagoguery that paves the way for genocide. Out of such ignorance, leftist mobs whip themselves up into a frenzy of “antifascist” fervor without bothering to examine whether their own social justice movement might be spinning towards something very dark.

Leftists fantasize that they would have had the courage of Paul Rusesabagina, the hotel operator who risked his life during the 1994 Rwandan genocide in order to protect targeted Tutsis. They fantasize they would have risked everything like Oscar Schindler. Preventing the next Hitler or Rwanda-style genocide, we’re so often told, begins with social justice. Look around, they tell us, and you will awaken to the reality that, “racism is a causal factor in the social and economic outcomes . . .” And those who have awakened to this reality sometimes adopt the slang corruption of the verb “woke.”

Not so fast. Every genocide, including Rwanda, began with a kind of “awokening.” Every genocide begins as a social or economic justice movement seeking to redress a historical grievance narrative. . .

. . . It’s easy to sit in a movie theater and fantasize about how one would have resisted now-extinct Nazis. But in the lead-up to a genocide, one does not have the benefit of hindsight. In the moment, cruelty seems justified. It’s not bigotry if the race or group you’re taught to hate struck the first blow. No genocide ever succeeded without first convincing collaborators that the target group had it coming . . .

. . . As you read this, you might feel a little uncomfortable with a comparison between the fashionable bigotry of present-day America with genocide-enabling demagoguery of the past. Indeed, there’s been enough casual bigotry within American universities and government that most of the victims have internalized the propaganda into shame. This is why you see so many whites apologize over and over again for being white.

Indoctrinators posing as “diversity” trainers have fanned out across business and government to lead discussion sessions shaming employees for their skin color. In one example that came to light in 2021, Coca-Cola forced its employees to sit through training that encouraged its staff to be “less white,” by which it meant, “less ignorant,” and “less oppressive.” The U.S. Military Academy at West Point now offers instruction to soldiers on “understanding whiteness and White rage.” Yes, our government trains our own soldiers to believe that their countrymen with European features are infected with dangerous rage. These are racial stereotypes used to justify official action. It’s a sign of the madness of any social justice movement when its adherents seek to make race discrimination and racial stereotyping seem normal and just.

Now you understand (as if you didn't) why Kamala Harris refused to visit the families of the victims slaughtered by the Leftist-inspired/incited transexual terrorist in Nashville and instead came to heap praise and admiration on the scum lawmakers who took over the state house and attempted to foment an insurrection. Go back and listen to – if you can stomach it – or read the transcript of Brandon's speech in front of Independence Hall last Labor Day.

Suddenly, Sudan doesn't seem all that bad an alternative.

Harborplace. Built back in the early 80s. Was the beginning of a revitalization of downtown Baltimore. It was a big deal around here. The last decent Baltimore mayor - William Donald Shaefer (an old school Democrat who later became 2-term governor, then state comptroller, then later was "cancelled" because he dared to express the opinion that people in America should learn English) - got a lot of credit for that revitalization. The National Aquarium in Baltimore was built around the same time. Oriole Park at Camden Yards, built nearby, followed about a decade later. Heartbreaking to see what has happened to the city I hail from. Yay Democrat policies!!!

I make the distinction because socialism is mostly just about economics. Yeah, we'll spread the wealth. It leaves alone other things if they don't block that.
Progressivism, OTOH, is an entire religion with an eschaton, totem words, and doctrines (aside from wealth redistribution) like transhumanism and hedonism, plus socialism thrown in.

59 One of my best friends, who I've known since 5th grade, owns Charm City Meanworks. He built it up from a bee hive on his Federal Hill row house's roof to what it is today. He had just moved from a river-side warehouse area to an impressive facility in the city proper when the pandemic struck. His tap room had been open for only a few months.
He got completely screwed on making hand sanitizer. Bought a whole slew of bottles/containers to make the stuff for a year straight when - everyone stopped using it. Then the state wanted to fine him for making it after the fact - when they were the ones who told him to do it.
I don't know why he stays in the city. His politics are aligned with the city's leadership so I'm willing to bet that's part of it - but I can't imagine trying to raise a family there.

This kind of thing feeds on itself. Plywood tacked over windows of one store that remains there indefinitely - or a storefront covered with graffiti, or a parking lot full of trash and needles, etc. - means no other store wants to come in and the ones that remain want to move out and move on. Even if the theft, violence, etc. don't put someone out of business, the environment will encourage the owner to decamp.

++++
This is a fair question, and a condemnation of "if it bleeds, it leads" tabloid journalism that has so long defined the American newspaper , online and television news businesses. This is the real problem. Baltimore has its problems - every city does - but the city is not the semi-permanent, roving catastrophe it is made out to be in the press.

It is the press and the news corporations' sensationalism that causes the problem of "perception is reality" and that problem creates continuous negative pressure on our vibrant urban centers. The way to overcome this isn't to fill the jails with petty criminals or convert the cities into the racist police states of old. The way to overcome this is for the press to stop blowing every petty crime out of all proportion and generating fear.

The racist, corporate fascist bias of America's press is still alive and well in its most pernicious form: the bias of story selection.

No such violation will be found because one of two things is probably what's going on:
1. This is either made-up completely or a deliberately-run hoax/false flag, cynically using a person who cannot communicate as the setup's victim so the victim can't break under investigation
2. The incident is real, and was perpetrated by a group higher on the intersectional victim stack than the Jews.

98 This kind of thing feeds on itself.

It can be undone quite easily. There are still a number of Men of Action who would be delighted to participate personally in casting out the demons who bring down the neighborhood.

The thing is, the city would have to be open to certain levels of community vigilantism. One commentator here, said that if a "trans" followed his wife into a public restroom that he would "identify as the tooth fairy and hand him his teeth". The problem with that is the "tooth fairy" would go to jail and then be dragged into civil court. That culture would have to change, yet that is just one election away from happening.

Druggies could have a sweeping wave of fatal doses, vandals would strangely be found with multiple broken bones and contusions. Rapists, if found alive, would be eunuchs.

People are willing... just not willing to go to prison and surrender their life savings.

Vigilantism is what will do it - and what we'll get, in the short term - if things continue. New York was getting there (and had spates of it already) when Giuliani took over.

Then he implemented "broken windows policing" and turned it around fairly quickly. Some version of that would probably work again, at least for now. The longer the rot continues, the harder that gets. And Giuliani didn't have to contend to pro-crime DAs who refused to prosecute the "broken windows" arrests.

I see a ton of them. I am one of them. I use one for work. It's awesome. Holds my computers, reference materials, etc. I don't take it when I visit customers (I use an inferior briefcase-style bag for customer visits, since it's more professional), but I used it constantly when I worked in the office.

But it also usually stays in the car when I go into a store. Unless I'm in a place like San Francisco, where I have a low expectation that it will *stay* in the car if I leave it there.

151 Then he implemented "broken windows policing" and turned it around fairly quickly.

Emphasis on quickly. Back in the '80s I worked with a guy who used to be an offshore roughneck. I asked why he left that lucrative career to work a warehouse and was told that government regulation hurt the industry so hard that everyone dispersed to find other things to do. His concern was the difficulty in getting the band back together

That lesson has stuck with me since then, and I look at the move to ban petrol and wonder what HS grad is going to take up geology or petro-chemistry. Dittos with the EV movement killing a century of knowledge in ICE design and manufacture.

With the "Defund the Police", Covid mandates, and throw every cop in jail for disrespecting PoC policies, I wonder, how can they staff a "broken window policy" when the people who knew how to do it are gone.

154 2A stuff. President Trump suggesting armed teachers are the solution to stopping school shootings. We have more than a few school districts in Arkansas with armed teachers, and I'm sure there are some teachers armed in districts where it hasn't been endorsed. The teachers undergo screening, get good training, and regular requalification. It has been well accepted by the majority of citizens in the districts, and no child has been traumatized by the presence of a gun (shown on the news, some teachers open carry). Signs are posted at the school stating the staff is armed.

Great, so now the FBI will guarantee that only Christian killers will have this (remember the perp's friend had access to it and commented on it). So the manifesto is out there and is being passed around like the Anarchist's Cookbook or the Little Black Book of Mischief.

Church security teams can't get it and prepare defenses against it - which I think is the real reason why the kakistocracy is preventing its release.

Then again, it may be released to certain people who intend to profit from the exclusivity of the content.

204 Thousands Of Americans Stranded In Sudan Warzone After Embassy Is Evacuated

Yesterday the White House put out a statement in which Brave Joe says:

'This tragic violence in Sudan has already cost the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians. It’s unconscionable, and it must stop.

'The belligerent parties must implement an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, allow unhindered humanitarian access, and respect the will of the people of Sudan.'

Useless diplomat-speak. Brave Joe says there Must Peace Between Blacks in an African sh!t hole country! Brave Joe's words are no more effective than similar words from the Vatican and Iceland. He's not going to send American troops in to rescue US civilians, or to try to stop the killing of Sudanese civilians, because it could result in American troops killing BLACKS. He does not want that heading into a POTUS campaign. The safe political choice is to abandon some American civilians over there.

There is a real problem there. I am viscerally, as well as logically, averse to taking kids away from their parents. But there is no denying there are some parents who really shouldn't have anything to do with children.

So what do we do about that? This is compounded by the fact that we cannot trust the government to handle it - not the legislators, not the executives, not the judges. Thorne throws it at the fathers. It's fine to blame them, they do deserve blame. But it won't do a damned thing for the poor kids stuck with a monster.

Agenda 21-type state and federal forced building of multi-unit housing in every neighborhood, every town:

The Polis administration has laid out a sweeping plan that would explicitly allow more dense housing across Colorado’s increasingly expensive metropolitan areas and resort communities, even if residents and local elected officials object to it.

The “More Housing Now” proposal, revealed Wednesday, would be a significant shift in how Colorado’s cities and towns grow, and who has the ultimate power to shape that growth.

Polis’ proposal has the backing of environmental groups, affordable housing advocates, labor leaders, business interests and some local government officials. But it’s sure to draw stiff opposition from other local leaders who believe their long-held power over land use planning is sacrosanct.

This year, however, one major brand will miss the festivities: Budweiser. According to festival organizer Joseppi Barrona, Oktoberfest is a time for food, fun, and festivities and not for political posturing.

289 The article on Harborplace really hit me hard yesterday. Back in the 80's that place was so cool.

I used to play jazz in on the balcony overlooking the common square on Friday nights in the spring and summer back in my salad days. It was such a friendly and cool place to eat, shop and hang out. Lots of couples on dates and parents with kids both blacks and whites.

Now it's a wasteland.

293 The Polis administration has laid out a sweeping plan that would explicitly allow more dense housing across Colorado’s increasingly expensive metropolitan areas and resort communities, even if residents and local elected officials object to it.

Because all women start at a 2 on the Crazy Scale.
And the vast majority of women have been conditioned to never admit it. About themselves or especially others.
So the courts are going to continue to overwhelmingly favor women.
And the law is going to continue to favor women.
And the Democrats are going to continue to bend over backwards to cater to women.

334 Today April 24th marks the anniversary of the death of eight American warriors because of the incompetence of those in Washington DC.

At a place called Desert One; the overly complex plan being executed by Army Delta Force, Rangers, Marines, and Air Force Special Operations came apart that clear night in glare of more burning fuel as a Navy Sea Dragon helicopter piloted by Marines collided with a USAF MC-130 Hercules.

This audacious plan was doomed from the start as those in Washington had no blueprints of the embassy or even where the hostages were located. Then because of the limited range of the Sea Dragons Desert One became vital to refuel them, an emergency evac site picked by the CIA, even though a highway was known to run through the area. The Rangers had radios that could not talk to anyone else on the raid but Delta Force would have instant communications with the White House. The Marines were delayed over an hour because of a dust storm and had lost two aircraft, at Desert One a third would be deemed unfit and the abort was given as the plan required six to lift to Desert Two.

To be continued...

I said it was a factor, not the only factor.

Girls are different. Girls tend to trend-follow and try to curry in-group favor more aggressively than boys do. Trannyism is hip and popular and cool and gains loads of approval and attention and is good for several notches of social capital overnight. That has its appeals, too, especially if you're an unsophisticated kid who doesn't realize it will ruin your life in exchange for a few months of fawning attention (especially when those unsophisticated kids are told directly by everyone involved that there are *no* ill effects at all).

401 Almost as soon as the first MC-130 had landed at Desert One things started to come apart as the Rangers on perimeter security had to stop a bus with Iranians on it as it drove down that previously mentioned highway. Then another unit of Rangers fired a LAW on the other side at a tanker truck to stop it so it erupted in flames; the driver abandoned his flaming rig and escaped in a pickup. Because of the radio SNAFU, Delta and Air Force commanders at first thought they were under attack until Rangers rushed to inform them of what happened. Still this was not good news as they now had a pyre burning brightly announcing something happened.

Even if these encounters had not happened and six helicopters had remained operational the rest of the plan was based on wishful thinking.

At Desert Two Delta was supposed to sneak into Tehran the next day, seize the embassy, search through all the buildings to find the hostages, exfiltrate to a soccer stadium, and then be rescued by these same six helicopters. And somehow escape a country now fully on alert.

All because James Earl Carter, as President, threw the Shah of Iran under the bus.

NYC can come back, just like San Fran and Chicago, quicker than anyone would think, with an iron will to restoring law and order.

Big Tech - especially in the Valley - is totally clueless. After Trump won and Google had their internal "town hall" meeting, one employee asked a reasonable question. He asked if maybe the internal reaction to this and the confusion and fear - and the hatred of the company by its customers - was due to it being a cloistered, coastal outfit that was utterly disconnected from the country at large, and whether they should open offices in the interior and staff them with local talent to maintain perspective.

Their HR queen disagreed, and asserted that the company already had offices in the interior, and those offices were full of local talent. They were in Boulder, CO and Ann Arbor, MI.

City of Denver uses a product called StarChase that is a front bumper mounted canon (actually two barrels) that fire a battery operated GPS transmitter embedded in sticky goo.

I read analysis somewhere that the Mulvaney thing was basically a required nod for ESG points to keep large hedge funds investing in the stock. Sure, sales would drop for a while, but they're expected to recover eventually. Stock prices, on the other hand, would be fine, as the major investors would keep buying to keep the price high.

That is a pretty big design failure, and/or construction failure. The failure of Big Booster separation system is another big fail. Either design, software, electrical power, installation, or some combination. Not good because SpaceX knows how to design sep systems from its Falcon9 program. Elon will get these problems corrected and launch another one. In a fraction of the time NASA would need.

465 Gref,

I believe the booster lost hydraulic power that lead to premature tumbling and those two things compromised separation.

I agree that SpaceX will recover from the vehicle issues quickly but trashing their only questionably designed and located launch pad represents some major league oversight in their design approach.

In such programs all the cool kids get to work on the rocket and the not so cool kids get put on facilities and GSE. NASA has the same biases in how the center hierarchy regards KSC as a backwater. The vehicle people always win in budgeting and manpower allocations over the lesser issues on the ground. I've seen it many times.

Well now they have to deal with the results.

468 Good morning, all, and thanks, J.J.

November '97, the AG designated Sudan for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) due to an ongoing armed conflict and extrordinary & temporary conditions within Sundan preventing nationals from returning to Sudan in safety. That TPS has rolled over many times. In fact, March '22, Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas designated Sudan and extended & redesignated South Sudan TPS. Those designations will easily go through FY 23 & 24 before, yes, extension.

14 other countries including Afghanistan, Venezuela, Burma, Ethiopia, Syria & Haiti are in TPS whichs grants individuals in status not to be removable from the U.S. & not detainable by DHS on the basis of his or her immigration status, along with eligiblity for employment authorization document (EAD) & for travel authorization.

Feb '23, the National Immigrantion Forum reported the largest populations of TSP holders live in CA, FL, TX, NY, and VA. What does TPS REALLY accomplish? Protect certain individuals; provide select labor not counted among visa programs &/or refugee applications; reduce our GDP if it ended? Facing tough times, we need to know.
