Evening and morning to all the satellites in space! 'Tis another Monday, but let us not despair, for Friday will be here soon.
I'm up early to work out, which I haven't done since Thursday. The Killer Kittens are playing rough with each other. Last night Miss Linda and I had to bathe little Dagny's rump; she was, uh, a little dirty. She was pretty good about it, just tried hard to escape. Apparently what I need is one of those shower hoses, the kind of thing they use in a salon, instead of dunking her rear in warm water with Dawn soap. I toweled her, but she still looked drowned-rattish for a while. Fortunately she does not seem to hold a grudge. Still cool here, rare for April. It won't last.
Work may not be too bad this week. The greased alligator I've been wrestling known as The Budget for Next Year has been vanquished, and in less than a month my boss will be off to Europe to teach for 6 weeks. (Heh, heh, heh.) I'll submit that short story to the Baen Fantasy Adventure Contest, too, and let that go. Still going through some ancient cassette tapes. They are still working on the old mini system that has the cassette player. It's a Panasonic. I'm impressed it still works. Crosby, Stills, and Nash tape is playing at the moment. 'Daylight Again'- circa 1982.

If you are willing to allow that a 10.5" screen is mini, ok, small, the Surface Go boxes, especially the m3/i3 versions are just lovely to use. I once had an 8-in Samsung tablet and I got very frustrated with it and got rid of it and thought I'd give the Surface Go a go. 2 years later this little computer goes with me everywhere every single day with my only negative is the battery life is a little light. On occasion I run it out of power and I have to put it away. But for the most part I just charge it when I get home and it's never been a real practical issue. The interesting rumor is Microsoft will release an ARM version sometimes towards the end of the year which should address the battery issue. That machine will get me to upgrade provided the performance is roughly equivalent to the m3/i3s, which it should be.

This is true. Once again my son's cat, he had her in a harness as a kitten and got her used to walking on a leash. They go all over the place together. It's hilarious. They also go to the pub together. She loves ride in on his shoulder and then she lays in the middle of the floor so everybody has to walk around her and give her pets. She's quite the drama queen. I grew up on a dairy farm, and we had house cats and barn cats. The barn cats got the fresh milk and the house cats got the dry cat food in a bag. Very seldom did the cats ever get together. the house cats stayed away from those nasty barn cats.

Feel good story of the day. My early 20s something pal. (There's a huge age difference between us) got his first career job a couple weeks ago and he needed a car to get to work. The degree of difficulty here is he barely had any money, he can't get a loan without a cosigner and his parents won't cosign for him because they're dicks. what to do? He found a Geo Metro two-door, 3. cylinders, for 750 bucks. It even came with an extra engine. It is so lovely what happens when a young person gets that first real job that's going to make them real money and then they solve the car problem with a near zero budget. A year from now he's going to be a completely different young man. I don't know who's happier him or me.

Posted by: San Franpsycho at April 24, 2023 *** I have not bought a new car since 1985. My first car was new, a Ford Maverick my then-fiancee purchased with a small legacy. I loved it and learned a lot about taking care of cars with it. Some years later, when the Volvo I'd bought burned up, I bought a new Ford Escort 4-door. Damned annoying little vehicle, and I was glad to move on to pre-owned Oldsmobiles, Mercedes, and now Buicks. And there was a quick dizzying affair with a BMW 3 Series. Used cars are overpriced now, but new ones are far worse. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at April 24, 2023 05:47 AM (omVj0) 85

I do not want to know it's 94 out there. All three of my Buicks have had it, and so did the BMW. Some have suggested I put a piece of black electrical tape over the spot where the readout appears. I can just imagine what kind of gumminess that would leave on the screen -- if I could even remove it after it's been melted into the plastic in the hot interior after a few weeks. Uh, no. I have photographed in and around Arches and Canyon Lands. There's something about the four corners region that is incredibly spiritual (and the Southwest too, more generally). It is quite a satisfying feeling and at the same time quite overwhelming. I took a friend in and around that area and we were sitting on a cliff edge overlooking the landscape and I looked over and she started crying out of the blue. I've had that happen. It's like that there.

Utility Southern Company (SO.N), which is phasing out its large fleet of coal generation, said new gas turbines should be favored “to safeguard electric needs of the U.S.”.
Southern, which also runs the National Carbon Capture Center with the Department of Energy, said commercial deployment of carbon capture technology “is many years away” despite the cost-reduction potential of the Inflation Reduction Act. There is not such technology. It will not exist by the time the laws (rules) by 2030. If they use the Fence Rule it is impossible. Posted by: rhennigantx at April 24, 2023 06:35 AM (BRHaw) 136

Alief, a working-class suburb of Houston that is 71% Hispanic and black, is planting 1,200 new trees, but the objective is not just to beautify the neighborhood. Rather, the idea is that trees will fight crime.
It’s a longstanding assumption on the Left that crime is a result of poverty; hence the “War on Poverty” that started in the 1960s, with the construction of the comprehensive welfare system that was supposedly meant to end that poverty. Rather than training AI to answer questions - which it can't do - why not train it to filter out all the AI-generated shit polluting search results?
Someone here yesterday ran Bible questions through ChatGPT yesterday and was impressed with the results. I didn't want to be mean in that thread, but considering 1 Corinthians 2:14†, the person grading the test probably doesn't understand the Gospel. † the passage teaches that understanding the Gospel is counter secular thinking and can only be understood via inspiration by the Paraclete. That is, ChatGPT must be wired up to receive the Holy Spirit in order to be able to understand accurately the Gospel. What's so bad about carbon?
carbon is short for "carbon dioxide" because trigger words work better when they are short. Its like uttering "democracy", "Trump", "gun", "fascist", "hate", "climate change", "sustainability", "Covid"™, "Musk", "diversity", "equity", etc. The people making these sounds don't know the definitional meaning of these words but are savvy to the emotional triggering caused when heard by a modern audience that prefers their communication in emotional slogans rather than a structured language with grammar, syntax and definitions. When Normals see these words [ab]used in this way, we should understand that the entire context of the message is raw propaganda and most often has nothing to do with reality or truth.
