How Walmart Pushed Arkansas Public Schools to Go Woke Documents reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon show a private company's unprecedented effort to inject DEI into classroomsRead the whole thing. Recall that former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson vetoed a bill to exclude boys and men from girl's and women's sports -- acting, of course, at the behest of his corporate donor Walmart. And of course Asa Hutchinson is only running for president because he has the Woke Walton family's money to burn as they try to bribe their way into a Woke, DEI-supporting, gun-controlling, Transgender Extremist GOP. Washington, D.C., September, 3, 2019 — Brady applauds Walmart’s announcement Tuesday that the company will discontinue all sales of handgun ammunition as well as ammunition for assault weapons. What is Walmart doing to guarantee responsible firearm sales? Walmart Spark We understand the responsibility that comes with our deeply rooted place in America and our influence as the world’s largest retailer. We care deeply about the responsible sale and regulation of firearms, and we know this is also an important issue to our customers. In 2018, we made the decision to raise the minimum age to purchase firearms and ammunition in our stores to 21 years of age. In years prior, we ended sales of modern sporting rifles, including the AR-15. Most recently, in September 2019, we decided to no longer sell the ammunition that can be used in large capacity magazines on military-style weapons, which we do not sell. We also made a complete exit from handgun sales. We will focus our assortment of ammunition on the firearms we do carry. Posted by: BetaCuck4Lyfe at April 19, 2023 01:29 PM (MFZ8i) 35

WalMart is weird as hell. The feeling inside their stores varies wildly. Some of their stores are well lit, have wide aisles, and are fairly well stocked. Other stores will be poorly lit, have cramped aisles, and will have big gaps on their shelves. Usually the second type are in ghetto areas. I do agree though, even their nicest stores have a scummy feeling to me. Also, why is it that every WalMart has thirty checkout lines and only five of them are manned? If they're only ever going to man five checkout lines, wouldn't it save money not to build thirty checkout lines? Posted by: bonhomme at April 19, 2023 01:37 PM (R38qh) 83

Don't forget that Walmart was a huge backer of ObamaCare in 2010 when the Dems were forcing it through congress on a party-line vote. It enabled them to cut benefits to workers while reducing their hours.
Walmart was the left's favorite punching bag before that. It was supposed to have been the harbinger of death for thousands of small mom & pop businesses. Numerous tales were spread of Walmart coming to a community, killing off all local competition, and then shutting down leaving entire small towns to die without even a local grocery store. The left loved to paint these scenarios as representative of capitalism. We defended the company by pointing out how much good it did for other small communities. But when they vocally supported ObamaCare, I was done defending them. And I'm done defending other corporations. There's no point in defending tax breaks for entities that insist on allying with woke leftists. Let it burn. Posted by: Caiwyn at April 19, 2023 01:42 PM (Bmy9A) 94

Posted by: bonhomme at April 19, 2023 *** The stores closest to me seem to make it a point of pride to hire the stupidest employees they can get. And around here, that's really saying something. They built the old-style checkouts years ago before the self-checkout tech became available, and some MBAs in the main office in AR convinced everybody that those would be cheaper. (Yeah, right. Increased shoplifting, anyone?) Now it would cost too much to rip them all out -- though they may soon go full crazy and replace the old stuff with new, intrusive, camera-laden self-checkouts. Which I refuse to use. They are not paying me for my labor. Posted by: J. Mannix, F. Cannon, B. Jones at April 19, 2023 01:57 PM (J2vNu) 164

Who will be the newest colossus remains to be seen as even Amazon's selling juggernaut is showing signs of weakness. Every retail empire eventually crumbles as part of the reason for expansion is forcing vendors to finance it via selling goods and getting the cash well before they pay their vendors--Wal Mart was infamous for forcing vulnerable vendors to accept payment even as late as 120 days after delivery. PORTLAND, Ore. — The REI store in Portland's Pearl District will close at the end of February 2024, the company announced on Monday. In a letter to REI members, the company cited concerns over safety and an increase in crime over the last few years as reasons for the closure.
"The safety of our employees, members and customers is always our number one priority. In recent years, Portland has been dealing with increased crime in our neighborhood and beyond. Last year, REI Portland had its highest number of break-ins and thefts in two decades, despite actions to provide extra security," REI said in its letter. REI’s statement said: REI does not sell guns. We believe that it is the job of companies that manufacture and sell guns and ammunition to work towards commonsense solutions that prevent the type of violence that happened in Florida last month. In the last few days, we’ve seen such action from companies like Dick’s Sporting Goods and Walmart, and we applaud their leadership. Posted by: BetaCuck4Lyfe at April 19, 2023 02:11 PM (MFZ8i) 235

Investopedia, 10 Biggest Retail Companies, Updated March 4, 2023: 1st Wal-Mart, 2nd Amazon, 3rd Costco Wholesale, 4th The Home Deport ...Wal-Mart and Amazon are partners with the WEF. Wal-Mart donates to both major political parties in the US, & only about 5% of retail workers are unionized.
Locally, I'm ticked at Wal-Mart because people from somewhere south (not Mexico) are hanging outside the stores, clutching little handwritten signs in English looking for money & assistance. Inside the stores, employees try to help those people find baby formula and other SNAP & WIC permitted products through Apps that do language interpretation. I applaud the employees for their patience & curse the politicians from town through county & on up for doing this to us and to them. All of them. We cannot afford more school kids, more welfare & emergency services in our budgets & we get DIE. A few miles away, the betters of the county sit happy with no fear of any of those individuals/families finding housing, education opportunities and/or medical services w/i their pristine towns. DIE lite for them. PS - Around the Target stores, it's new gang warfare even in the 'burbs. UnderCoverinLA, thanks for that (comment more!), and a somewhat similar story. Younger neighbor is in banking, big US bank. He described how immediately after the National Racist-Totalitarian Street Festival of 2020, the annual new personnel intros took place (remotely, but this was common for this event apparently even pre-C19, as it links offices all over the country).
A pronounced absence of white faces. Much more importantly, almost none of the new faces had much of an intro - which typically included descriptions of their experience in the relevant functional areas. Neighbor said he has no idea which if any of these new people he could rely on for certain things, which is the whole point of the team approach. The poison of racism was largely marginalized, its material effects largely removed or made subject to redress - and THEN it was forcibly revived and injected into everything. REPARATIONS!!
"Under the revised LLPA pricing structure, a home buyer with a 740 FICO credit score and a 15% to 20% down payment will face a 1% surcharge – an increase of 0.750% compared to the old fee of just 0.250%. When absorbed into a long-term mortgage rate, the increase is the equivalent of slightly less than a quarter percentage point in mortgage rate. On a $400,000 loan with a 6% mortgage rate, that buyer could expect their monthly payment to rise by about $40, according to calculations by Stevens." As soon as any company gets big enough that interest rates are important, then the banks will force down ESG standards on them. So corporations don't matter.
And banks are getting this forced down on them. Especially the larger banks. The whole goal here is to HIDE the actual architects of all this garbage - to make it look like a broad societal movement, when in fact it is just the preference of a few elites. Sound familiar? Each and every one of them is captured by the left and working to destroy the last bits of freedom. You can argue until you're blue in the face on the negative growth consequences. That principle went out the window when they chose sides. The goods and services they provide can survive an economic collapse to be provided by new entities. Our freedoms are not surviving them. If slavery was evil wouldn't the Bible tell you so?
This is going to sound horrendous and if I were famous would be taken out of context to cancel me but... slavery is neutral, not innately evil. Bear with me a moment. We need to define slavery first. As I understand it, slavery is compulsory labor with little to no compensation and the inability to refuse work except for the most extreme reasons (I can't lift that boss, my arm fell off). We use slavery as a punishment for prisoners today. The 13th amendment specifically allows enslavement of prisoners. They have to work, they cannot say no, they cannot leave, and they get paid little (or nothing in some cases). There was an excellent (if easily abused) system called "indentured servitude" in the past in which someone is indentured to someone to work off a debt, and at the same time learn a trade (the classic book Johnny Tremain comes to mind). This was slavery as well, slavery like prisoners with a sunset: at this point you have paid off your debt and are free. What we need to do is show that implementing woke bullshit makes companies more risky. That is, when you do it, you lose market share, bigtime. But the bloom will come off the rose, and then things like this that were implemented to keep the housing market inflated will become net weight on the market, compounding the problem. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) ------ The percentage of those owning their house has been dropping for years under Dem rule. Simply put, regulations of all sorts are a cost and generally financing local growth comes at the price of higher taxes for existing homeowners rather than applying it to the sale and development of property. The formula for today's commercial ventures is to socialize costs but privatize benefits. That is true for immigration, taxing policy, and a whole host of other government initiatives. Even gas and diesel taxes demonstrate this as typically interstates are torn up by heavy trucks, not car traffic but car owners pay proportionately more to keep the roads maintained than heavy trucks do. The heavy truck owners benefit along with corporations transporting goods but others pay proportionately more for it. Posted by: whig at April 19, 2023 02:54 PM (t9aCs) 391
Chris, Come on man. Slavery bad. Indentured servitude could be at best transactional but in most cases bad.

How is that different from having a mortgage?
Well you have more freedom with a mortgage, that's more a debt than slavery. If you were not allowed to leave and were compelled to pay without being able to go bankrupt or selling the house, yeah its more a parallel. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at April 19, 2023 02:55 PM (0hOvj) 394

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor You could consider serfdom as an alternative. You were tied to the land as a serf--one could leave but it had serious consequences in such places (comparable punishment in the current US for leaving your mortgage would include poor credit rating might cause you to be unemployed, unable to rent, and so forth). What are you bitchin' about? You put these clowns in office. Case in point, you'll try do it again: Your savior Desanctimonious is a straight down the middle GOPer who you prefer over the one person who would crash this circus - TRUMP 2024. "but but but Trump is a corporate loving x-Democrat who can't speak and has baaaaagggaage... " Idiots. He, and only he, understands Burn it down to fix it.
There's a problem this time you purple-pilled neocons who are too dumb to know who you are, 40%+ of the conservative vote ain't abandoning Trump. Either he's elected to burn it down to fix it or we watch the Biden/GOPer buttfucking cabal burn it down themselves. Were not putting another milquetoast GOP in office. Its over. Oh... the reason the 2022 midterms were a total GOP FAIL wasn't because of abortion. It was because a massive number of the Trump GOP base didn't vote. We vowed we'd get McConnell and Romney inc back after thier betrayal and we did. Looks like you numb nuts will have to wait till 2024 to see the party fully burn to the ground... or not by holding your pretty little noses and voting for Trump (when within 18 months you'll be back on his bandwagon fingering the "never trumpers".... damn hypocrites).
