The Morning Report — 4/17/23

newstalinhorror.jpg

Good morning, kids. Tomorrow is tax day, and so it's time to pony up and pay "our fair share." Whatever the hell that is. It's funny; despite the political kabuki-bukkake theater of debt ceilings and deficit spending, the Left nevertheless keep insisting that somehow the laws of economics don't apply to government, insofar as the government can borrow as much as it wants without any consideration to paying it back. Well, if that's the case, then why do we need an income tax if they can just print and spend at will?

They can't, of course. And one day, perhaps very soon now, it will be time to pay the piper, as it were. Of course, the ultimate goal is to wipe out the ability of the individual to earn as much as his God-given ability and drive allows him to and thereby make him a slave to The State. What better way than onerous tax regimes, fees and bureaucracies that allow those who've already made it big to pull up the ladder behind them and keep the last slice of what is supposed to be an ever-expanding pie to themselves and their protectors in government. It's a neat little racket that sort of resembles a Venn diagram of fascism and communism.

For my money – pun totally intended – there's no better example of this than what's happening in California, which nowadays has all but become the Democratic People's Republic of California. And remember, historically, as goes California, soon so goes the nation.

The state of California is implementing full Marxism before our very eyes under the guise of “equity.” And so now there can be no possible doubt if there ever was for anyone: instituting Communism has been what “equity” initiatives have been about all along. Now three of its most powerful utility companies are saying that they’re going to charge based not on how much of their product was used, but on how much money the user makes. . .

. . . If the California utility companies are going to make people who have more money pay more for the same goods and services they could get for less money if they had less, there will be several results: wealthier people will seek to hide their wealth through various means, so as to pay the lower rate. Some enterprising entrepreneurs will make a good living by helping them do this. So from the Marxism of the utility companies will come more capitalism.

Also, people will see that there is no point in working harder to try to earn more money, as the state will just confiscate it in various ways. Consequently, people will work less, and less hard. The standard of living will decline, because productivity will have declined. This is why Communist countries have always been economic failures: they block the capitalist incentive that people have to work hard, and thus destroy the only path to prosperity.

That last paragraph of friend Robert Spencer's article many of you with a proper education will find familiar because it is the actual story of what happened to the Pilgrims after landing in the new world, but I digress. Here's another great idea from Gavin Newsom:

The more tightly things are grasped, the more likely they are to slip through the fingers. Predictably, the elite who normally support progressive measures found themselves scrambling to sell their homes before the measure, known as the “Mansion Tax,” kicks in.

The real estate market might be cooling nationally, but among the multimillionaire set in Los Angeles, it has been red hot — so much so that some sellers are getting burned.

Sellers have been throwing in brand new Bentleys and McLarens and drastically slashing prices in order to incentivize a quick close.

That’s because a so-called “mansion tax” goes into effect Saturday in Los Angeles, adding a 4% tax for sellers on homes that sell for between $5 million and $10 million and 5.5% on amounts $10 million and above.

The change will add hundreds of thousands — if not millions — of dollars in additional new transfer taxes for sellers, which will go to support a homeless housing measure Angelenos passed last November.

Supporters assert that the tax will bring in $900 million annually for subsidized housing in an area in which affordable housing is a significant issue.

Of course, supporters of tax increases count on monies they don’t yet have and fail to consider all the unintended consequences.

[The] tax applies to every real estate sale within Los Angeles that is not exempt – including not just mansions, but apartment complexes, retail and industrial buildings and other structures, causing some in the real-estate business to warn that developers will look elsewhere to build.

. . . The once robust tax-base is now fleeing the state in droves. Fiscal experts are beginning to notice the state’s economy is on edge. . . But, hey, if the progressives feel good about their choices . . . isn’t that what’s really important?

Quit your bitching, Californians. After all, you've got all all that free, clean, renewable energy that's going to make everything groovy. Or not.

California’s headlong rush to replace its electricity grid with renewable energy has given the rest of the country a preview of the decarbonized future that Joe Biden and his revived Clean Power Plan envision for America. It isn’t pretty.

Before supply-chain woes and federal stimulus goosed inflation, California’s cost of living already ranked second highest in the nation. Enthusiastic efforts to rely more heavily on wind and solar power—touted as “cheap” sources of clean energy—have only made the state more expensive . . .

. . . California and clean energy seem like a natural fit. The state’s sunny coastlines, bright deserts, windy mountain passes, and deep river valleys should offer bountiful sources of cheap, all-natural solar, wind, and hydropower. Unfortunately, they don’t. Nightfall, droughts, and windless days take these renewable power sources offline. And when intermittent clean energy sources cannot keep up with demand, California power providers turn to natural gas and electricity imports that backstop the state’s grid, but which are now more expensive due to the insufficient storage and pipeline capacity created by the idealized rush to “cheap” clean energy.

Inefficient energy markets, unpredictable price spikes, unreliable power sources, and a hostile regulatory environment have all contributed to a 40 percent increase in the average California electric bill over the last five years. Retirees, low-income households, and middle-class families bear the brunt of the higher prices. Millions of Californians now stretch their already strained budgets just to cover food, fuel, shelter, and an ever-rising electricity bill. . .

. . . California’s seismic shift to cleaner energy tells a cautionary tale. The Golden State may someday achieve fossil fuel independence, but that dream remains elusive. And imposing the Biden Administration’s California-style emission reduction policy would be economically disastrous for states that rely on energy-intensive manufacturing and agriculture without California’s sun-kissed geographic advantages.

Well, we've covered taxes. Now let's talk about death.

The District Attorneys of Tulare County and Riverside County, Tim Ward and Mike Hestrin, respectively, and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco and Riverside City PD Chief Larry Gonzalez, held a joint press conference on April 12, 2023 (See Video).  These DAs are not radical Left Soros-supported prosecutors.  Instead, they are at wit's end regarding the unintended consequences of Assembly Bill 109, the California Public Safety Realignment Act, for serial low-level felony offenders. . .

. . . AB109 released low-level felons from state prison back to their home counties for incarceration and supervision (AB109 local state prison).  Riverside County DA Hestrin expressed his frustration “Frankly, all of us up here on stage have had enough…. We cannot protect our public; we are getting no help from Sacramento, the laws don’t back us up.”

. . . Riverside County, CA's chief law enforcement officers are not pleased with the unintended consequences of AB109's results and subsequent actions of the progressive-dominated California State Legislature (here) and Governor Gavin Newsom.  However, social justice reform advocates quickly point out that in prison populations, minorities are disproportionally represented and assume this is from racial discrimination and deserve early release (a debate for a later time). . .

. . . Under the cloak of social justice reform, the radical Left decriminalized many crimes by selective prosecution and no cash bail releases before trial without considering victims and public safety in many states nationwide.  There is a hidden political agenda of the radical Left with decriminalizing and no cash bail – to sow havoc and chaos to destabilize our local communities:

NGOs funded by George Soros and others dropped millions of dollars into local district attorney races to elect far-left prosecutors (as many as 70).  Under the veil of social justice reform, these prosecutors implemented policies including no cash bail, which released violent serial offenders without regard for public safety.  The released, ruthless, violent criminals commit new murders, rape, robberies, and mayhem before trial.  Again, to wreak havoc and chaos within our communities, who then, in fear for their safety, will willingly relinquish their civil rights in exchange for totalitarian controls.

Should Joey "Sponge-Brain Shits-Pants" decide not to run, or have that decision made for him, one of the prime candidates being talked about is Gavin Newsom. Frankly, I don't see it because he's got the wrong melanin, wrong gender and wrong sexual orientation. But if you only look at the state of the State of California, in terms of Democrat-Leftist policy he's their ideal candidate.

Of course, the Democrat-Left abhor the concept of meritocracy, and yet Newsom has "succeeded" wildly. There's an irony in there that is chuckle-worthy, or would be if the consequences were not so horrifyingly catastrophic. California is, or at one point was the sixth largest economy in the world. When you consider its ports, its farmland, the non-ideological aspects of Silicon Valley, and many other things, its complete ruination -- driven by a Leftist-dominated statehouse and several of our nation's formerly great megalopolises within its borders -- was and remains a harbinger of things to come.

What a waste.

67 Taxes are purely punitive at this point. They are used as a weapon to punish the productive. They are also used to fund programs that normal people would be against. If you object, you hate children.

Not sure if there is a solution to this problem, but eventually the system WILL crash and burn.

I don't think the Cloward-Piven types will get the Utopia they are looking to build...

70 I have noticed that some of you seem hesitant to eat the lab meat. We will now enact a regulation which says any entity which gets government funding of any kind, or does business with an entity that takes government money must require its employees to eat lab meat once per day, or it will forefit all government funding. This is for all of our safety and the safety of our planet, and the teachers and first responders and children and moms and puppies and kittens.

So, America today is similar to America in 1775.

103 Good morning, kids.
++++
Because they can't. They can try, and then they lose it all. Print-and-spend is what leads to currency failure, which leads to economic failure, which leads to state failure.

Just ask France. Or Germany. Or any number of South American countries.

112 Also, people will see that there is no point in working harder to try to earn more money, as the state will just confiscate it in various ways. Consequently, people will work less, and less hard. The standard of living will decline, because productivity will have declined. This is why Communist countries have always been economic failures: they block the capitalist incentive that people have to work hard, and thus destroy the only path to prosperity.
++++
Not true. It *redirects* those impulses and aggressively restricts those who are allowed to express them.

Communists will work *very* hard to achieve their goals. They will work tirelessly at all hours to climb the communist ladder. They don't let many people step on even the first rung of that ladder, but those who are on it will work very hard indeed. They will steal more, kill more, enslave more, lie more. Communism has no shortage of hard workers. It just incentivizes all of those hard workers to the tireless pursuit of evil instead of production.

Stupid. If California is worried about its hyper-rich leaving the state and thus wrecking the state finances - and it is, because the state is entirely dependent on its hyper-rich - this is a lousy disincentive. Yes, it's a big hit and will cost sellers hundreds of thousands of dollars, but it will also depress the high-end real estate market (not too important, in the grand scheme of things) while being just one more reason for the big money guys to GTFO (a much bigger problem).

A bit of context might be called for.

Per the LA Times last year, at least half a dozen "low-income housing projects" under construction right now are costing more than $1 million per unit built. That's high, but $750k per unit is not unusual.

So this new "mansion tax" will build - at current rates - between 900-1200 apartments per year. That's it. And that's only if, of course, it actually raises that much. It probably won't, at least not for very long.

Maybe. A lot of jurisdictions are trying to move to a mileage tax instead, and they way they're trying to do it is extremely sinister.

First, it will apply to *all* vehicles - so ICE vehicles will get taxed twice (once for fuel, once for mileage) whereas EVs will get taxed once (mileage).

Second, they want to do it through the expansion of the panopticon. A mileage tax is easy to do if you want to implement one: read the odometer. When you go to register the car, provide the mileage reading and pay the bill. Easy-peasy. This is, of course, not what they want. They want a GPS tracker in every vehicle instead.

And a 40% wealth tax. A 70% millionaires tax.

It's time conservatives stop trying to save the public from themselves--they need to start demanding all these programs be paid for.
Where in the Law of Conservatives is it written "Thou shalt never raise taxes?"

There will never be a majority coalition to cut spending, not until Social Security is gone. So we need to stop with that stupid dead-end plan. And we had control of all three branches and did not end one single program and only got one minor tax change. It's not just Democrats that are the problem.

Get a coalition of 20 retiring Republicans and make them push tax increases to pay for all this. Then, in 5 years, when the pain is in full, start talking, "we can lower taxes if we get rid of some programs."

On its current trajectory, the Junta will allowed 12 million illegals to invade the country by the end of its first term, a large portion of those illegals will end up in California.

900 units a year are a not going to cut it.

Well, to be fair-

The point of this is to dump crime holes into middle class neighborhoods to destroy the incentive to flee the urban centers.

In Texas, of all places we've seen this "thinking" under the lawfree and constitutionally-void rulings of asshole Democrat commie Judge "Barefoot" Sanders, who I believe is currently dead and roasting in hell.

Any time some place like the city of Dallas was going to build project housing, he would rule that it had to be built right next to the border of Dallas and next to middle class housing because those horrible middle classers had tried to "avoid the poor".

218 And why are we always fighting against higher taxes on the ones who hate us the most?
The ones who literally fund the Democrats?

Because some dying geriatric might toss a few pennies to the R?
Great $100 million for the Democrats and $100,000 for the Republicans.
Big win there, quite a reward for that "lower taxes" principal (that never ever seems to find its way to the middle class).

It's not that Republicans are whores to the rich and corporate class-- it's that they are such cheap whores.

We are where we are because of oil.
What's in a barrel of oil?

46% gasoline
26% Diesel
3% Asphalt
1% Lubricants
9% Jet
15% bottom of the barrel. These bottom of the barrel petrochemical products include thousands of different items ranging from makeup to medicine.

Remove that 46% of gasoline and you don't need as much oil. When you don't need as much, it costs more to produce, which makes everything else cost more to produce.

It would sandbag the economy.

Yup. It's social engineering, purchased inefficiently with stolen money.

And they aren't trying to avoid "the poor," they're trying to avoid crime-ridden hellscapes. There are a ton of poor people - that is, people who earn well under median - in those working-class and lower middle-class areas, and they're there because they spend a shocking amount of what little they make on housing. They do that to get their kids out of the hellscape.

This is code language, and it is really corrosive. Peaceful working-class and middle-class neighborhoods aren't afraid of poor people, nor do they hate poor people. They don't want to live in a crime-ridden, dangerous hellhole. When policy dickheads talk about "The Poor," they never mean it. They mean one specific kind of poor: the kind that don't mind living in violent hellholes.

Yup. Before cars, gasoline was mostly a waste product. They wanted the kerosene (diesel), but you get gasoline no matter what. You can tweak the distribution - a little bit - but you can't magically wish it away. They used to have to just burn it off. One refinery at least (I forget which one) would store it until they had enough, then dump it into the river and throw a match.

289 California is, or at one point was the sixth largest economy in the world. When you consider its ports, its farmland, the non-ideological aspects of Silicon Valley, and many other things, its complete ruination -- driven by a Leftist-dominated statehouse and several of our nation's formerly great megalopolises within its borders -- was and remains a harbinger of things to come.

I didn't go that years cause I had just moved here a couple weeks prior and my sister decided not to attend that year either. That was some fortunate timing.

422 Yup. It's social engineering, purchased inefficiently with stolen money.

In he case of the Dallas Housing Authority and their quest under Alphonso Jackson to set outposts of ghettos in [then] prosperous Plano (far North Dallas).

They budgeted, ahead of time, more money to litigate the move, knowing full well the resistance to the idea, than they intended to spend building the projects.

People were defending their schools, neighborhoods and property values but the DHA knew better and used poor people as weapons against The Rich™

A few decades later the fruit of this sort of policy came when the feral hoodlums in the neighborhood jumped security fences to hijack a large pool party causing a disturbance so great that it ended up getting national attention.

437 Good morning, all, and thanks, J.J.

The idea of a Federal flat income tax rate is back; H.R.1040 - Flat Tax Act, 117th Congress (2021-2022), probably much the same as flat tax proposals touted in the '90s. But there's also VAT proposals/analysis in the works. See, CBO dot gov Impose a Tax on Consumption - Options for Reducing the Deficit, 2023 to 2032, Volume 1: Larger Reductions

Something has to give 'cause we're broke & the feds need to find the millions of gig workers (thus the unionize proposals hither & yon) while also trying to make independent contractors into employees of employers, excluding certain loftier positions of course.

More control over the financial system, still excluding the 1% of course, is needed. (The 1% require different plans but the feds and states will simply continue to pattern their proposals much like steps for slow dancing.) The IRS & states aren't employing legions of forensic accountants. They need 'specialists' with certain computer features to feed data in & get red light/green light readings out for the bulk of the quarterly &/or annual tax obligations for the 99%. Surely, the NGOs are on it.

However, we know that the state is the incubator for new policy ideas, so if they're pushing for it there today, then your local state Democrats will be pushing for it tomorrow.

And the crazy Lefties who voted for these policies for decades, who just now declare that 'they've gone too far, will not learn their lesson. They will move to a new state and declare it their responsibility to educate their new neighbors on how things should be run, progressive-style.

453 Maybe. That's a big crowd.

Mercenaries will be more common, especially as law continues to break down and the odds of private security being prosecuted declines.

This would not happen if their parents didn't allow this kind of thuggery.

Right?!?
The people pushing for this are the same ones who were freaking out about GMO foods 15 years ago.

If you're referencing the new article by "Raw Egg Nationalist," the lab-grown meat is scary AF. It is cancer cells.

With enough fake drugs and fake vaccines being socially acceptable and the general population with near zero survival instincts a/o serviceable cognition, this isn't surprising at all.

God made the most efficient plant to meat processor ever. It eats junk plants that grow in soils not suitable for row crops and requires next to no energy or much in skilled maintenance. There is no patents, no royalties, nothing.

But we can't have that sort of efficiency and quality. There can't be an Almighty God, only lots of little gods.

Eggs, too. One of the most perfect food storage devices in existence. A literal gift from God to anyone who will look at it. Lasts for months in cool, dark places with the natural "bloom" left on.

And people want to try to produce fake ones from cancer. That isn't science. That's satanic.

462 You mean that the House is floating a flat tax when there is no chance it can possibly pass, even though they never do it when there is even a remote possibility that it could happen?

I think the Communists would love such a thing: A Flat Tax us a guaranteed method to absolutely collapse the economy with no hope ever for recovery.

'State primaries 2023.' (Note to the many AoSHq Pennsylvanians, THERE'S ONE IN MAY.) If you haven't already, best to start looking in detail at state and your county operations, preparations, sample ballots, proposals for constitutional changes, etc.

State laws and expungement clinics & 'State Voting Rules that apply after a Criminal Conviction' will also be hot topics again (for voting and employment) in state and federal elections 2024.

Please stop with the quasi-intellectual “anti-woke tech elite” word salad.

They are mediocre racists who have retarded real innovation and progress through their immoral and frankly stupid decisions. Legitimizing late boomer hate isn’t the move.

being anti-woke is pro-racism. There literally is no other definition. And Effective Alturism is just Gen-Z eugenics. It’s shameful how so many have publicly debased themselves for hate…

And mediocre: all born on third base but swear they hit a triple. Systematically and intentionally excluded Black, Brown, and women founders from the same stolen money for generations…even though every study shows how much money they lose for backing the same average children from families of I’ll gotten gains.

A Lutheran church in Fayetville has a "trans closet" at their church so the trans kids can come and dress as the gender they want, and the church will not tell their parents.

Yes, this sickness is everywhere, as long as the money flows to these orgs.

468 Unless it's a tax (thanks Dred Judge Roberts), it seems charging different rates like this is price gouging based on some characteristic of a customer. If that characteristic were skin color, sexual orientation, or being some protected religious group, the Gov't would jump all over it.

You know what religions were also not considered? Those that took the lives of their victims. So Aztecs and Maya had their own religions which hundreds of thousands to millions believed. Lots of followers of Molech too. Doesn't make them valid.

472 "Increasingly, Americans aren’t working as teenagers, and it’s no wonder there’s a growing political movement that equates employment with exploitation."

By working as a teenager, you learn the value of hard work, you learn the value of earning your own money to spend on things you want, you learn the value of saving your money for things you want to buy, you learn about how much the government takes away they money you earn in the form of taxes, you learn responsibility, you learn discipline, you learn teamwork, you learn interpersonal skills.

If less Americans are working as teenagers, that means less Americans are learning these valuable life skills. And it also means more Americans have idle time to do things like join domestic terrorist and activist groups like antifa and Black-Lives-Matter.

All according to the WEF global plan to sew chaos and decline in Western civilization. And I wonder how much of this is a consequence of the $15 minimum wage, where employers don't want to pay $15 to teenagers and prefer to pay that to veterans who know what they are doing.

It's a mystery.
