  • Future ChatGPT versions could replace a majority of work people do today says Ben Goertzel, an idiot. (ZDNet)
"You don't need to be incredibly creative and innovative or make big leaps to do most people's jobs, as it turns out," said Goertzel.
Perhaps not, but if you're a pathological liar, people tend to notice.

And that's what ChatGPT is. It's inherent in the design, because it's a language model, not a fact model.
"Tools like Grammarly decrease the need for human copy editors," Goertzel said. "They don't entirely eliminate [the job] but they decrease that need. Automatic tools [can be used for] writing journalistic articles. They've been writing ... sports score summaries and weather reports for a long time."
Seeing some of the crap that passes for journalism, you could replace the whole lot with a short Perl script and get better results.

11 And Florida performed a miracle for my laptop.
At the hotel in Charleston, I signed on to the wifi. Laptop shows that I'm signed on to the wifi.

I go to any web page and the screen says....

Hmmm something is wrong we can't find that (or some such verbige)

I tried Brave, Firefox, and Safari. All the same message.
We get to the rental here in FLA, sign in with password and the laptop says Hellz yeah, let's see what Ace and the 'rons are up to.

Heh. Wife said that she wasn't part of the Kool Kids when she went to HS. After she retired she found that some of the "girls" she was friends with would get together every month for a lunch. This has turned into a mini reunion every month at a local place in my wifes hometown. She gets to as many as she can.
Tells me that she likes to get there early so she can sit with the 5 or 6 that she knew in HS.
I tell her she gets there early so she can sit at the Kool Kids table

23 Never was part of the Kool Kidz Clan..

I lived in the "correct" neighborhood, but parents weren't wealthy and connected to the local 'elite'. Meh.

Our house got 'egged' a few times, cuz me & bro were not in the In Crowd

Haven't been to a HS reunion yet, and plan to not EVER attend.

Saw pictures of the 40th and thought I know some of the guys because of sports, but the women, not so much.

I didn't go to my 50th.

Th ptbs wouldn't do that here. You had to wait until after your class graduated before they issue that piece of paper.

37 Never went to a class reunion after all these years. Not even sure they do it anymore.. The school still looks the same outside (with a new large addition) and has A/C now. I remember not being a sports hero, and where my locker was, I have no interest in getting together and talking about who married who, and who has divorced who. Looking at my report cards from that era, surprised I even graduated. Social Studies was about the only class I liked, and none of the social justice classes, they have today!

38 "Social Studies" was my *least favorite* class. Ugh! Such bullsh!t. But that was Jhigh.

49 Morning, all!

HS reunions? I went to the 10th with the future Mrs. Wolfus No. 2 (which increased my social credit score, lemme tell ya). Everybody looked about the same, except hair styles had changed -- shorter, usually. A lot of the cute girls were still cute, but the boys were starting to show receding hair lines. Had some fun. Went to the 20th, and that was generally pretty sad: less hair (including on some of the women!), more body weight and double chins and wrinkles. The most recent anniversary ending in a 0 would have fallen during the Sniffle Scare. Who knows if they even had it.

53 In 1988 I did go to a 75th anniversary of the founding of my high school. A couple of the teachers I remembered from my years were still there, and it was fun to talk with them. But the place had become a kind of remedial high school; the classrooms were dolled up for us evening visitors, showing how they were teaching the basics (!) of English and arithmetic. The place is still going; it's the school Sandra Bullock spent $$$ to bring back after Hurricane Katrina. I'm proud that I went there *then*.

Trivia: Both Lee Harvey Oswald (though he did not graduate) and Clay Shaw (much earlier) graduated from my school.

54 I took Mrs. F. for her first visit to Florida where she met my entire family for the first time at lib little sister's wedding, including the Canadians.

It was a real-life Seinfeld episode for 3 days.

Posted by: San Franpsycho at April 16, 2023 05:51 AM (EZebt)

55 And I visited my old grammar school in the fall of 2012 when they were open as a polling place for a Saturday local election. The classrooms are air-conditioned now, and the big auditorium, which took up most of the ground floor, had been broken up by partitions, though maybe that was for the election. Now they've renamed it for something politically expedient, as they have my junior high. Blech.

A tour guide once tried to tell me that Lee Harvey Oswald had attended that school. I'm pretty sure that when LHO was 6-11 years old, he and his mother did not live here at all.
