Mitch McConnell to Announce His Retirement, GOP Sources In the Senate Confirm

Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell has been out of the public eye for weeks, following a serious fall that hospitalized him. Now multiple sources confirm that Senators John Barrasso of Wyoming, John Cornyn of Texas and John Thune of South Dakota are actively reaching out to fellow Republican senators in efforts to prepare for an anticipated leadership vote -- a vote that would occur upon announcement that McConnell would be retiring from his duties as leader, and presumably the Senate itself. One source says that Cornyn has been particularly active in his preparations, taking fellow senators with whom he has little in common to lunch in attempts to court them.I'll bet he has. Great, McConnell retires, and John F'n' Cornyn replaces him.

Because she's on the Judiciary Committee, this leaves the Democrats short votes to clear their leftwing maniac know-nothing diversity slot judges who don't know what the Brady Doctrine is, or what a woman is, because they're not biologists. And that's got Democrats frothing mad. They want her to admit she's incapable of serving as Senator -- or actually, they want her staffers and handlers to admit this; they don't think Feinstein is calling the shots any longer -- and resign so they can get back to destroying the scraps and dust that remain of pre-Obama America. Feinstein's staffers, handlers, and nurses won't let the old hag resign -- I guess they don't have jobs lined up, and need to keep this old cow's milk flowing a couple of more years -- but they have agreed that the Fake Senator should lose her place on the Judiciary Committee, to be replaced by someone cogent, or, if a cogent Democrat cannot be located, at least a Democrat capable of being physically present at work. But only temporarily, while she convalesces.

There was one amiable but notably dim GOP senator back in the day who'd walk up to any GOP staffer (or one he assumed was) during a vote and ask how he was supposed to vote. Not sure I ever saw one of his staff on the floor. We all felt sorry for him.
To be fair, a lot of the voting is party line, sometimes with obvious and well-known exceptions (regional, particular interest, whatever), so senators from either side might just ask any handy staffer who knows what the vote's about, at times. One particularly affable southern Dem senator I sort of ended up shadow-staffing on certain topics (to a limited extent) had a great way of asking - "so what would a guy like me do on this one?" - only half jokingly.

I've had shingles and neither of the jabs. Doc commented that I was rather young for shingles and must be under a lot of stress. Well, yeah. We had just left our family, friends, and jobs to move 600 miles nearer to my husband's daughter, which meant we were 600 miles nearer to his extremely toxic and abusive ex-wife. I'm glad we did it, but I seem to be sensitive to contact with people who serve Stan.

McConnell is probably the single most unpopular politician, period. I have no idea why liberals hate him, he basically just gives them whatever they want.

I don't know why either she or McConnell are agreeing to this. Their programming is very simple when you get right down to it. Feinstein introduces or supports openly radical items and rubber-stamps any radical appointment. McConnell pretends to object to openly radical items and appointments, while working in the background to ensure adequate payoffs to guarantee that it happens anyway.
Both of these people - and Schumer and in fact anyone in the Senate who isn't named Rand Paul or Krysten Sinema or Joe Manchin - could be replaced with robots with fairly simple AI backing them up. Sinema and Manchin would need more sophisticated programming, but not by much.
They're all in tight with Disney. Why don't the parties just get the guys who build their park animatronics to build them some reliable and immortal senators?

I am looking to convert our house to solar because of the very generous tax credits. If I am doing the math correctly it appears that I can reduce my federal tax burden to -0- for the tax year I install solar. That assumes they don't change the rules before I do it. We live in Texas so it is probably worth it.
We still have to buy the system but with the Fed giving us a 30% tax break off the installation cost we should come out ahead in about 5 years.

I know you meant this sarcastically, but it's a bigger probability than you think. California has an interior capital city and as a result, it is comparatively conservative region within the state. The odds of MAGA-related agitation are much higher in the California interior than it is in Coastal California. This is not surprising given that all of the conditions that lead to infection with the MAGA ideology - low education, low-value labor, reflexive outgroup exclusion, inherent racism, xenophobia, etc. - are more common in rural areas. There is a reason that rural areas are more susceptible to shiny fascist ideologies, and it's because those areas - and California has plenty of them - exhibit most or all of the underlying social pathologies needed for fascism to be viewed as appealing.

The other thing is that about 90 percent of what was in there I get daily on YT war updates from public sources and most of what is left is either errors in the secret doc or stuff I could probably find if I exerted myself - such as unit locations. I think the details muddy the picture of the overall war picture if you drown yourself in them. After losses a unit might be a powerful force or a dozen shell shocked grunts with no equipment. Witness AH directing divisions/corps from the bunker that didn't really exist.

Yeah there were a lot of stories of him being a monster to the Irish and tales of the Irish being monsters to the English, and some of them might even be true. Doesn't make him any less a great leader and historical figure. British kings were horrendous to the Irish as well, according to tales, but they don't curse those names the same.

Likely the major difference was that Cromwell made the English army effective, as he did when fighting the Cavaliers in the CW. Thus English rule/dominance could be extended over more of Ireland who were used to a standard medieval army instead of the better armies of the early 30 years war.

Cromwell and Bolivar. Washington was tough and smart, but he wasn't as tough and daring as Bolivar, and probably not as clever as Cromwell.
On the other hand, he built a fairly stable government from his revolutions so it might have been to his credit.
