"My Rosa Parks Moment:" Lunatic Demands $1000 in Groceries from Target for "Reparations," Chases Store Manager Around Store Demanding Payback, Gets Punched in Face
This actually happened back in October 22, but it's in the news now because a report has been issued, clearing the security guard who punched the mugger of any crime, stating he acted in proper self-defense.
A security guard in Ohio reportedly punched a customer in the face after she demanded the store credit her over $1,000 worth of groceries because of "reparations." Law enforcement officials from the Blue Ash Police Department determined Zach Cotter acted in self-defense after punching unruly customer Karen Ivery in the face at Target store in October 2022, the New York Post reported. The incident occurred after Ivery repeatedly demanded more than $1,000 worth of groceries be gifted to her due to reparations, the outlet stated, citing a police report.Yeah no kidding. This is the kind of escalating violence encouraged by the left's radical, revolutionary, and warlike rhetoric. Recall that the SFSU trantifa thugs demanded money -- ransom -- to permit Riley Gaines to leave the closet they had her locked in. Jake Tapper will take this opportunity to condemn the Proud Boys.
When a manager was called to mitigate the situation, Ivery reportedly got angry and "walked aggressively" towards the manager, prompting Cotter, the store's loss prevention officer, to intervene. Cotter urged Ivery to calm down and leave the store, but she allegedly refused. Instead, Ivery followed Cotter to his office where she reportedly forced entry, prompting the security guard to punch her in the face. Cotter then called the law enforcement officials, according to the outlet. Upon arriving at the store, police reportedly found "Ivery was confrontational with officers on the scene and didn't want to explain her actions," the New York Post reported, citing a police report. Body cam footage shows an arriving officer asking Ivery if she is "okay." Ivery replies, "Physically, I'm okay. Emotionally, I'm very very angry."
So that's where we are -- Reparations Vigilantes are now shaking down private citizens, threatening violence, for the "reparations" that Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and the leftwing propanganda corporations tell them they're owed.
Ivery went on to accuse officers of "gatekeeping" her, questioning their request for her ID and insisting that she wanted to have a "larger conversation" about money and how it works. "We all know money has not been treating everybody equally," Ivery stated, arguing that was disadvantaged. Her intent, she argued, was to open up a larger conversation by asking Target to compensate what she could not pay of her $1,000+ bill. "I know the heart of this place," Ivery said of the retail store. "[Target] is the right place for me to have this conversation," she stated in footage obtained by the Daily Caller.

First and foremost, every leak should be treated with equal criminal repercussions. We all know it is not. It is, as you said, the stock and trade of todays mainstream government media. There's a solution for that too, I was plain clothes at a store in downtown Ohio city x when a 17 year old who stood about 5'7" tried to boost a gold necklace I observed. Admittedly I have not gone to court over these things for over 27 years but I am betting the law is still the law.

As always comes down to in judging reasonableness and proportionality it is the sum of the entire confrontation.
What did she say to them, what was the security officer told about her or what did he directly observe, how did she behave out of frame during the brief camera lag, did the others try to retreat, ,what did witnesses say, and so on. Facial expression even can count as can arms, hands, legs, and even facial expressions.
I strongly suggest you read Rory Miller and his several books out due to your pastime of arguing to the point of inspiring violence against you. You risk nothing other than learning something.

Yes, "physical contact" -- but at no point that I could see did the fat lady put her hands on the guy or touch him. She certainly wasn't in the office. As I said, she had her hands at her sides. She was not making any threatening motions. I did not see anything on the video where she ever raised her hands. (We don't know what she was saying. We also don't know what he was saying.) To me, the guy -- a young, athletic guy -- was not in any danger from the fat lady.

There is a whole line of self defense literature that is available of how to avoid bad situations and that is the best possible self defense that a citizen can use. Get the hell out of there, preplan exits and seating when you walk in the joint, be prepared to lose your sandwich, etc. over your safety.
Before the NRA goes into bankruptcy, I would suggest attending one of their Refuse to be a Victim seminars for a nominal price--not gun oriented but very much a situational awareness focus.

At that point, as has been explained to you, he is legally entitled to use reasonable force. You can say now that he was not in danger - at that time - he doesn't know that. the comment about you armchari quarterbacking are making the point that you have the benefit of cooly examining the video and seeing the outcome. He did not have that luxury. I would kick you off a self defense jury if I had a chance.

If you're an expert on self-defense law -- I'm also a lawyer, albeit not a criminal one -- then you should know that analogizing this to the Trayvon Martin case does not help your argument. That's an extreme example of obvious self-defense that clearly warranted actual deadly force. In the current case, at best it's murky and depends in large part on what the security guard subjectively thought and whether it was reasonable. None of us know what the guy thought. He didn't look scared or threated to me at all. Maybe he did to you.

The Ohio standard in practice is "reasonable judgement" the assailant was following a person who belonged in the area who worked for the owner to a non public part of the building uninvited after having committed battery.
There is video and eyewitness testimony, you'll note he was not charged. You do not have a duty to tolerate a physical attack and imposition of presence in the state of Ohio.
You're a lawyer I guess, and my mother God rest her soul raised me not to pick on the disabled so I will be gentle. The Zimmerman-Martin affair was presented in the context that prevailing noise erroneously pretended that there was a duty to endure illegal activity upon one's person. You do not have to be doormatted by anyone and most especially not in Ohio.
