Study: Mask-Wearing is Harmful, Lowering Blood Oxygen Levels and Increasing Blood CO2, as Well as Increasing Heart Rate and Blood Pressure
In other words, masks make it more difficult to breathe.
Shocking discovery, I know.SpO2 is blood oxygen level. Actually it apparently means "saturation of peripheral oxygen," which I take to mean that it's not a direct measure of oxygen in your blood, but a proxy measure for that, as people usually get their Pulse Oximetry taken via that thing that clips on to your index finger and reads your oxygen level through your skin. I'm guessing it's the skin that is the "peripheral" being analyzed for oxygen.
Physio-metabolic and clinical consequences of wearing face masks--Systematic review with meta-analysis and comprehensive evaluation ... Background: As face masks became mandatory in most countries during the COVID-19 pandemic, adverse effects require substantiated investigation. Methods: A systematic review of 2,168 studies on adverse medical mask effects yielded 54 publications for synthesis and 37 studies for meta-analysis (on n = 8,641, m = 2,482, f = 6,159, age = 34.8 ± 12.5). The median trial duration was only 18 min (IQR = 50) for our comprehensive evaluation of mask induced physio-metabolic and clinical outcomes. Results: We found significant effects in both medical surgical and N95 masks, with a greater impact of the second. These effects included decreased SpO2 (overall Standard Mean Difference, SMD = −0.24, 95% CI = −0.38 to −0.11, p < 0.001)...
...and minute ventilation (SMD = −0.72, 95% CI = −0.99 to −0.46, p < 0.001), simultaneous increased in blood-CO2 (SMD = +0.64, 95% CI = 0.31--0.96, p < 0.001), heart rate (N95: SMD = +0.22, 95% CI = 0.03--0.41, p = 0.02), systolic blood pressure (surgical: SMD = +0.21, 95% CI = 0.03--0.39, p = 0.02), skin temperature (overall SMD = +0.80 95% CI = 0.23--1.38, p = 0.006) and humidity (SMD +2.24, 95% CI = 1.32--3.17, p < 0.001).Here are some bad effects:
Effects on exertion (overall SMD = +0.9, surgical = +0.63, N95 = +1.19), discomfort (SMD = +1.16), dyspnoea (SMD = +1.46), heat (SMD = +0.70), and humidity (SMD = +0.9) were significant in n = 373 with a robust relationship to mask wearing (p < 0.006 to p < 0.001). Pooled symptom prevalence (n = 8,12Here's what all that means:was significant for: headache (62%, p < 0.001), acne (38%, p < 0.001), skin irritation (36%, p < 0.001), dyspnoea (33%, p < 0.001), heat (26%, p < 0.001), itching (26%, p < 0.001), voice disorder (23%, p < 0.03), and dizziness (5%, p = 0.01).

Discussion: Masks interfered with O2-uptake and CO2-release and compromised respiratory compensation. Though evaluated wearing durations are shorter than daily/prolonged use, outcomes independently validate mask-induced exhaustion-syndrome (MIES) and down-stream physio-metabolic disfunctions. MIES can have long-term clinical consequences, especially for vulnerable groups.
So far, several mask related symptoms may have been misinterpreted as long COVID-19 symptoms. In any case, the possible MIES contrasts with the WHO definition of health.The conclusion? The downside of masks, combined with the complete lack of benefit for wearing them, means they shouldn't be worn, and certainly not mandated by government.
Meanwhile, another study demonstrates that masks failed to control covid spread even in the venue where proper mask wearing and compliance would be at its highest: even in hospitals, masking failed.
Conclusion: Face mask side-effects must be assessed (risk-benefit) against the available evidence of their effectiveness against viral transmissions. In the absence of strong empirical evidence of effectiveness, mask wearing should not be mandated let alone enforced by law.
"Experts" are only expert in refusing to admit error, ever, even in the face of overwhelming evidence.

While I agree that the tyranny and abuse of power is a greater problem, you can adapt to high altitude pretty quickly. Altitude sickness usually is a problem for a day or so and your body adjusts. Masks are a physical restriction of oxygen that your body cannot fix.

These are not the same thing. Go for a run and only breathe through your nose. You will be restricted to how fast you run, and your body has no way to adapt because the volume of air entering your lungs is lower. High altitude adjustment has to do with making the most of the oxygen that is available in the same volume of air.

True. I've missspent most of my life down here at below sea level. When I moved to Denver, 5200 ft., I was aware that the thinner air would make a difference, waited a good week before going out to run, and slowed my pace significantly until I was used to it.

you are both almost correct. Ha. The difference in oxygen sat at say a mile high, isn't that great and most people don't spend their lives at Breckenridge but some do and you can compensate, but its still not that bad. The problem with the mask is you wind up rebreathing a bit of your own carbon dioxide that you just exhaled. So you are not getting as much Ox per breath and your carbon dioxide goes up. Even at altitude you can still blow off CO2 without a mask. So you are both only sorta right. Stop being so adamant about things you don't know.

The results weren’t pretty. According to the outlet reporting on the story, Rational Ground, the masks harbored 11 dangerous pathogens. The site lists them:
Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumonia)
Mycobacterium tuberculosis (tuberculosis)
Neisseria meningitidis (meningitis, sepsis)
Acanthamoeba polyphaga (keratitis and granulomatous amebic encephalitis)
Acinetobacter baumanni (pneumonia, blood stream infections, meningitis, UTIs—resistant to antibiotics)
Escherichia coli (food poisoning)
Borrelia burgdorferi (causes Lyme disease)
Corynebacterium diphtheriae (diphtheria)
Legionella pneumophila (Legionnaires’ disease)
Staphylococcus pyogenes serotype M3 (severe infections—high morbidity rates)
Staphylococcus aureus (meningitis, sepsis)

Well a lot of the data and studies included in those 70 years of research I referred to above (subject of CDC-funded meta-study) were based in Asia, where the large-scale routine use of masks provided a perfect place to do research.
I didn't bother to look at the meta-study that ace touted a while back, which inevitably was based on much of the same past research as the CDC one (with the addition of the Danish RCT done summer 2020).
But all this is really peanuts compared to the massive looting and destruction of freedom and ruinous opportunity costs imposed by the acceptance of the big scientific fraud of our era (largest ever, according to Dyson) - "anthropogenic climate change".

It's the norm for DOD rooms and packages, the jump in cost after you make E-6 is pretty steep and eventually makes it cheaper at a cost in quality of stay to be off post.
Of course every once in a while you get lucky and get to stay in VIP quarters which make suites look tame for your rank's cost.
When the wife was an E-2 we stayed in an E-9 suite for 32 bucks in Little Rock.

I was on a flight last month for a ski trip. Probably 1/4 of the plane was masked, including true retards who would temporarily remove the masks and then put them back on. One truly stupid man actually did the meme: he kept the mask on while EATING. He pulled down the mask only to take a bite . . . of food that sat in front of him in the open air.

I was waiting to have minor surgery done with local anesthesia, and since I was nervous, I started breathing shallowly.
The mandatory mask did not help this. At all.
One of the nurses noted that I was uncomfortable, and kindly told me that I could lose the mask.

But common sense, reasonable solutions were the way to deal with this stuff. Cover your gob when you sneeze and cough. Stay away from people when you are sick. Wash your hands. Its just basic things your grandma told you to do and we all know.

And I can understand that. We’re wired that way. When I finally caught COVID I’m almost certain that it was from being stuck in a plane, on the ground (I’m pretty sure that their much-vaunted ventilation only works in the air) for seven hours (it was supposed to be a 90-minute flight).
It threw off my plans for two and a half weeks, and eventually resulted in my driving into a ditch. (I’d pushed back some travel and ended up driving in a snowstorm that I should not have been driving in.)
I know that masks are probably pointless. I know that even where masks make sense, wearing the same mask for seven hours would not have helped one bit.
But it’s still tempting on an instinctual level to think there was one simple trick that would have kept me from catching COVID and could do so in the future.

Not to beat a dead horse, but this was obvious to casual observers early on. No, it wasn't scientifically rigorous, but it was easy to do and many people - including me - did it.
1. Find the effective date of a mask mandate in a jurisdiction
2. Get the infection data for that jurisdiction (back when they published it)
3. Look at the 2-4 weeks bracketing the mask mandate.
When you do step three, you'll find a modest increase in infection or a modest decrease in infection. No big moves. If you do this in enough jurisdictions, you'll find noise. No trend, or possibly modestly negative trend (worse infection rate). This isn't rigorous, but it's close enough - any big trend should appear, especially because at the beginning compliance was quite high.
You can do the same thing with lockdowns and get the same result. This crap never worked, and it was obvious almost immediately.

Their stuff could be read on the twatters (the censorship/suppression there on this sort of thing was never all that vigorous as far as I could tell, up til the point (fall '20) when I gave up on it and stopped looking.
One guy focused on the mask thing (ianmsc, or something, on Twitter), has done a book out of it. Others (data scientists with medical focus or at least public health orientation, mostly) did macro stuff that was pretty compelling. One of my favorites was using the brand-new data item of "social mobility", as quantitatively measurable by mobile phone use & movement, to assess "mitigation" policies, especially lockdowns. You can imagine what was shown (no correlation between anything, and infection rates, of course).
Meanwhile, destruction and misery were imposed with zero actual scientific rationale.

Also, given that they do nothing to filter the virus itself, it's only real use would be to keep droplets from scattering - but if you wear your mask all the time, any droplets it catches is just going to saturate the mask you're breathing through.
What makes the most sense to me is: if you're shedding germs and you have to go out in public, wear a mask to prevent your droplets from getting out to other people and keep rotating fresh masks as needed. Healthy people should be maskless.
