The Morning Report — 4/13/23

urbandecayyou.jpg

Good morning, kids. The nexus between the decriminalization of crime and the weaponization of law enforcement and national security to be used against ordinary citizens and extraordinary ones like President Trump grows more evident day by day. The destruction of our cities and urban areas into versions of Gaza meets Mogadishu, which until very recently had been confined to areas of perpetual Democrat control are beginning to metastasize. And it's no accident.

My case in point takes place in Bellingham, a once-idyllic college town way north of Seattle.  It may have been the colleges that ruined it.  One moment they were doing fine, and then someone started asking what they could do for the downtrodden.  Next thing you know, the downtrodden are arriving en masse, and people are getting robbed, and feces is darkening the streets, and the mayor gets chased out of City Hall by Antifa.  This last part seems like rhetoric, but it's the literal history.  You can see things like it on video, and the cops, standing against hordes of ugly green-haired gender-fluid youngsters, stood by and took a beating over it. . .

. . . Pam's been running Yeager's for years now, and you can see her featuring locals on her Facebook page, and throwing sales on hard-to-find items.  But lately things have changed.  Instead of featuring locals, she's featuring more criminals.  Her son (whose official job is managing the ski and paddle section) spends most of his time in loss prevention, and he apprehends junkies and lowlifes almost constantly.

Recently he caught a bum and was told to "call the cops; they won't do anything anyway."  And they won't.  The city of Bellingham won't prosecute many minor offenses, and the criminals walk free, maybe back to Yeager's, maybe to another mom-and-pop store until whole families drown as even Walmart did in Portland.  None of her children has been stabbed or shot.  But the likelihood increases every year as strangers with nothing to live for keep stealing from families worth living in.

A couple of men broke in recently and stole a thousand dollars' worth of stuff.  Before that, others stole $6,000, and before that, others stole $3,000.  But like the pie charts and statistics, the dollar sign obscures the real meaning of the offense.  As such, it wasn't a number out of a vault or an account, but the bread and butter off the family plate.  Every burglary that happens to Yeager's drives Pam closer and closer to red ink.  Every thief is chipping away at the hard work and love and investment of generations — from the legacy of grandparents to the inheritance of grandchildren.  And none of the above burglaries, she says, was covered by insurance. . .

. . . What's most frustrating is that these junkies are backed by a self-righteous mob — a mob that asks for more tent cities for junkies, for fewer rules for junkies, for more money for junkies.  This in the end leads Bellingham to more junkies.  When the police try to clear out the encampments, they get hooted and pelted by hordes of the "compassionate."  They are, in essence, armies of people compassionate to lone deadbeats and junkies and openly cruel to mothers and children.

I wonder how long good families can survive in Bellingham.  And if they can't, how long it will be until families take matters into their own hands — and whether the city and the media will actively prosecute them first.

You better believe if you dare to defend yourself or your property it is YOU that the Alvin Bragg's of this world are going to go after. Relentlessly. I'm sure by now most of you have heard of something known as the Cloward-Piven Strategy, but I'll link it here via David Horowitz's invaluable Discover The Networks. Peeling away the bullshit reasons, the crux of the biscuit was the intentional collapsing of the welfare state leading to the collapse of the economy in general and thereby the government, which would then lead to the take over of the whole enchilada by – you guessed it – American Communists.

While that scheme which was cooked up early 60 years ago and continues to this day especially with the flooding of tens of millions of third world peasants via our now non-existent southern border, the decriminalization of crime across the nation is just the opening of yet another front in the war to destroy America from within.

Hold that thought for a moment. Since the theft of the 2020 election and essentially the overthrow of the nation, many of us have been discussing a national divorce, or at the very least, making red state America a bastion against an encroaching tyranny. How that happens electorally and/or politically with the combination of rigged elections, stacked courts and a useless GOP has yet to be fully explained to me, but nevertheless a realignment of populations is happening for real. Places like New York, California and Illinois are losing more and more fed up citizens across the political divide to states like Texas and Florida.

Escape from New York! New Yorkers are so worried about crime, sky-high housing costs and struggling schools, 27% percent of state residents said they want to move away in the next five years, a survey revealed Wednesday.

A stunning 30% of respondents — who also cited inept political leadership and soaring taxes as reasons for wanting to flee — said they already longed to live somewhere else, according to a Siena College Research Institute quality of life poll.

Nearly a third — about 31% —  plan to leave the Empire State when they retire while even more said they believe it’s not safe for kids. . .

. . . A total of 40% of respondents said New York is not a good place to raise children — including an alarming 61% of black respondents — and 26% said the overall quality of education is fair or poor as a statewide debate rages over opening more charter schools.

Assuming for a moment that, as I noted yesterday, unlike years ago when people fled blue-run shit-holes yet brought their Democrat voting habits with them to destroy within a few election cycles the places they sought as sanctuary, this might not necessarily (thank goodness) be the case today. And of course, the Junta understands this as well.

The Biden [junta] and Democrat-controlled legislatures in several states have taken the lead in this effort.  In New York State, Governor Kathy Hochul, as part of the state budget, has advanced a so-called Housing Compact that would eliminate local control and single family zoning.

Hochul's plan would require that high-rise "affordable" (read: low-income, taxpayer-subsidized) housing be constructed close to each sleepy village train station — mostly a few miles apart — on Metro North and the Long Island Railroad.  If the affected communities fail to do so "voluntarily," the state will have the power to override local zoning.  Those who fail to applaud this combined coup by warriors for social justice and real estate interests are, you guessed it, racist.

Suburban homeowners, Democrats as well as Republicans, are beginning to awaken to the deadly threat these proposals pose to their way of life.  What is largely overlooked is that this is a repeat of a similar effort in 1972 about which I wrote at the time ("Housing Controversy in Westchester," Congress Biweekly, November 10, 1972 and December 22, 1972).  Believe it or not, the effort to overthrow zoning was then spearheaded by Republicans — with New York's Westchester County selected to pioneer the program.

On June 20, 1972, the New York State Urban Development Corporation announced that it was overriding local zoning to create a variety of low- and moderate-income housing developments in nine, for the most part rural, Westchester communities.  Reminiscent of the emotional reaction to the death of George Floyd, the UDC had been given zoning override power by a hitherto balky state Legislature the day after the murder of Martin Luther King.  Republican governor Nelson Rockefeller, in a burst of virtue-signaling, argued that this was the best tribute the Legislature could give the slain civil rights leader.  When rationality returned, efforts by the state Legislature to take away the override power were vetoed by Rockefeller.

On a national level, Nixon's Department of Housing and Urban Development, headed by George Romney, joined in the pressure from another angle.  It introduced project selection criteria reducing the availability of federal funds for low-income housing in areas with existing large minority populations.  This in turn led to protests from inner-city communities arguing that the new guidelines would make it impossible to rehabilitate their areas.

The only clear winners in these proposals were real estate investors. . .

. . . What are the chances that this time, 51 years later, legislation to override zoning in New York will be successful?  The current triumph of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity throughout our institutions, the belief in systemic racism, the near deification of the poor — all speak to a climate much more susceptible to supporting zoning overrides in the name of "social justice" than existed fifty years ago.

George Romney? That name sounds familiar . . . But I digress.

What it all boils down to is, in the immortal words of Martha Reeves & the Vandellas, "Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide." And now that the gasoline-powered automobile – perhaps the one invention that has arguably done more to secure an individual's freedom and ability to work and live as he or she sees fit and thereby helped drive the prosperity of this nation for nearly a century – has been targeted for termination, your immobility will make you that much more controllable.

This de-evolution/dissolution will not stay isolated to Democrat areas. It is spreading – intentionally – to the suburbs and rural areas. The government will soon have the power to overrule zoning laws and eliminate single family homes. That is to kill the American dream once and for all in the interest of D-I-E.

This, plus the flooding of third world illegal alien peasantry by the now tens of millions will prevent normal red state America from being able to act independently from the centralized tyranny of DC.

People who desire a peaceful national divorce will be prevented from having it. Yugoslavia ’92 here we come. Or worse.

They did this in Pulaski Cty Ark around the same time. The developer built 3 houses of about 1700 sq ft. Then TADA, every house was 1000 sq ft with a carport, no garage. We moved a year later as the people that moved in had no problems stealing anything that was not locked up.

Two pastors led us in prayer, we all sang "Ramblin' Wreck From GA Tech," a friend who is a nurse in the hospital sang "Amazing Grace." It was a beautiful sendoff. My and (son's) hearts are broken, but we are surrounded by love. Sam will be cremated and we will have a memorial possibly before (son's) wedding. There will be a huge crowd. Now I learn to live my life without my great love. I am sitting alone at his bedside waiting for the funeral home to come."

I let her know that we had a little sendoff of our own for him, and promised to send her the link soon. Thank you all for all your prayers throughout this journey - I know she appreciates them and will appreciate more prayers as she and her son learn to navigate life without Sam.

Yup. And that this point, these kinds of people can't credibly claim to be wrong. It can't be, "our compassion demands that we not harm these people, and that we accommodate the unfortunate" because at this point, they can't claim to think it will work. At the beginning, some of these jokers could have hidden behind the excuse that they are merely stupid. Not anymore.

The ironic thing is that if they had succeeded when Cloward and Piven wanted to - 40-50 years ago - it probably wouldn't have worked. The underlying premise is that, faced to with a collapsing system because the parasitic part overwhelmed the productive part, the people would rebel in favor of the parasitic part.

Had this happened back when they first came up with the scheme, it probably would have failed because the parasitic part was large enough to crash the system but too small to swing support for rebuilding. Now, that is likely untrue.

65 It's no longer about guns, abortion pills, etc. It is about the GOP need to control, kill, torture Americans. Establish fear, terror in the population to make it a docile one. Necessary prelude to establishing a fascist government. Just like Hitler and Putin.

mass shootings are the whip of the dominator The art of domination is to get people to repeatedly say or do things against their instincts for self-preservation. The more risk, or in this case, horror involved, the tighter the grip become at each iteration.

Every Republican is complicit in the destruction of American democracy. These are not just nice people with whom I happen to disagree- these are selfish, juvenile cock roaches who have demonstrated their indifference to the destruction of justice, equity, and decency in our shared geographical location.

Hillary said it best during the debates when she said: "there is a giant right wing conspiracy" and even the Dems thought her statement was out there

So many people live in our beautiful country, and harbor hatred toward us

122 I've posted about Hayek and his book Road to Serfdom here before. I thought it worth raising again in the context of planned economies.

Hayek had a simple argument in his Road to Serfdom: in addition to being inherently coercive, central planning is sub-optimal because it's not as good as free market pricing at processing information in order to make informed decisions. Even when bureaucrats are smart and well-intentioned, they don't always have all the information they need. If they do have sufficient information, they get overwhelmed by it. Free market pricing wins every time, with the exception of the occasional grand military-oriented project.

An extension of this idea is that bureaucrats don't like change and won't admit to making mistakes. Compare the private sector: even monopolistic companies that don't change and won't admit to making mistakes will eventually fail.

Reagan, a closet intellectual, was a big fan of Hayek. If you believed Hayek, you'd have understood the Soviet's vulnerability and Reagan's plan for how to bury them.

Except for that to work, you do have to keep the lights on. They won't be able to. The failure of the electrical and transport systems are one of the hallmarks of the de-development process, as the rulers' combination of criminality, cronyism and looting destroy the ability to produce and distribute energy.

This has happened to some degree in Venezuela, but is really playing out in South Africa. SA went from an energized, industrial economy in 1992 to a basket case where the lights *aren't* on half the time in the energy-demanding winter. Their power stations and distribution grid are failing due to a combination of incompetence and looting - but within the system and by street gangsters.

*That* is what they will achieve.

That is everywhere outside of Israel. In Israel, Passover ended yesterday at nightfall, after 7 days, as per the biblical commandment.

The extra day is Rabbinic and only for the diaspora because back in Babylon, the Jews didn't always know when the new lunar was declared in the Temple (no Internet) and therefore there was a doubt as to which day Passover would fall out on. This is true for the other festive holidays as well (Shavuot and Sukkot).

And this remains so even though the Jewish lunar calendar became fixed after the destruction of the Temple.

So here in Israel, we're enjoying some fresh hot pitas, among other things.

I used to live in a nice - not rich, but nice - western suburb of Denver. I watched the vagrants and associated crime radiate out from Denver along the highways in real time. They crawled their way westward along I-70. It happened along other major corridors, too, but I-70 was my corridor. When the interchange I used became a vagrant camp, it was rousted. Then it came back, was not rousted, and grew. First the gas stations at the interchange became rough and more dangerous. Then the cheap hotel and the little retail strip as it crawled its way north and south along the major surface street.

When that camp showed up and wasn't rousted, I committed to relocating. If it gets to the point where that is tolerated by the government of a somewhat conservative, middle-class suburb, the region is dead.

Seems war has a healthy effect on long life.
Assuming you don't get killed.

Albert Henry Woolson (February 11, 1850 – August 2, 1956) was the last known surviving member of the Union Army who served in the American Civil War; he was also the last surviving Civil War veteran on either side whose status is undisputed.

Purim (celebrating the salvation of the Jews and the destruction Haman) is a blast. So is Sukkot (one of the pilgrimage holidays, and also an agricultural holiday). As is Simchat Torah (occurs during or immediately following Sukkot, celebrates the conclusion of the annual Torah cycle, and the Torah itself is celebrated and rewound back to the beginning).

287 I remember the first round of this housing boondoggle. Around 1980, I worked for a contractor bringing cable to suburban NY/NJ. Cable was actually slow getting to the area-guess ALL the palms had to be greased first.
A 30-story building, seven years old in Yonkers, NY. Should have been a paradise-right on the Hudson, view of Palisades of NJ, hundred yards from Metro North station, you could be at Grand Central in 30 minutes. Anyway, the building started out 50/50 white/black and a mixture of people paying full rent and Section 8 subsidized. By 1980, there was only one white resident left and she had been attacked/robbed in the parking garage and was leaving. There was a white super who tried to enforce rules, but he was being forced out, too. I'm sure it became Mogadishu-on-the-Hudson quickly after that.

Heh. Hellman's or bust!

When I was a little kid and my family moved to Colorado, it was mayonnaise - of all things - that finally put me over the edge. Everything was different. Even all of the brand names were different. The products were the same, but the names were different. Back then, out west, Hellman's was called "Best Foods." I was too little to really grok that.

I had a little freakout over it because the label was the same but it was *wrong.* My dad put some blue tape over the words and asked me what it was. I said, "Hellman's." He then pulled the tape off and explained different brand names in different regions. That was it. All good from there.

305 automobile... has been targeted for termination
-

It occurred to me last night in the ONT while laughing at Mr Jack, EV proponent extraordinaire who understands exactly nothing about EVs or normal cars (or other Americans), that this is a way to nudge us towards population reduction.

A family of four making 65K/year - the median income in the U.S. - is doing everything they can just to FEED their kids right now. They're going to struggle to find and buy a decent used car for the two parents, much less two additional used cars for the kids.

A 50K+ EV is out of reach, but they'll have to figure out how to afford one. But that's all they'll afford. And their kids will watch the struggle and move to the city - as planned by Our Betters - and struggle to afford things. Assuming they find a mate in this purposeful strife that has been put into society, they'll choose to only have one kid. Maybe not even that, though. And they'll struggle to afford anything.

And that kid definitely won't have kids, and that's the end of that genetic line. For pop. reduction it's brilliant, really.

309 "I can pay for this" does *not* mean "I can afford this." In my experience, a lot of people do not ever learn that lesson.

I know of some people who managed to get several defined benefit pensions so they know exactly how much money to expect coming in to their accounts each month.

They use this knowledge to buy toys on payment plans figuring that if they take in $8000/mo from these pensions, they can easily afford $7000/mo in recurring payments.

Then they discover that the $1000 a month to live on doesn't go that far, or that some of their toys break and need repairs, or they need new shoes...

It's a interesting theory.

However most population models show that more impoverished nations reproduce at a higher rate than advanced nations.

As a nation gets wealthier, they fewer children they have, generally.

They attribute this to people turning to alternate areas of interest other than family when they achieve affluence.

Personally I think it's because when you are poor, the only thing you can afford to do for entertainment is have sex or fight.

Put it in their terms.

She liked going to frat (or frat-style) parties in college, but now wants to "pull up the ladder" to prevent others from having that same experience. She judges those events negatively, but never acknowledged her participation in them. As such, she has not had a "change of heart" over it (after all, she never repudiated it or discussed her own experience that led to her transition), she just smears it as a negative and ensures that she retains a position of artificial privilege by discouraging others from having the same fun she had. Her attitude and language are oppressive.

That is a bit of conflation. Industrialized countries often require a lot of urbanization and children, who occupy time and space without contributing anything until they are of the age of majority are generally considered too expensive.

Particularly when governments have policies that force two-income households as a minimum.

Of course, there is always weflare so the State has its continual supply of shocktroops and dependants.

The rural societies had the room and the need for kids to help out on the farm. Diesel and reliable electricity replaced the need for so much manual labor.

370 It's a interesting theory.

However most population models show that more impoverished nations reproduce at a higher rate than advanced nations.

As a nation gets wealthier, they fewer children they have, generally.

--

Ah, but that's the key. They're already not worried about other nations that can't feed themselves (the same way they don't care that China and India are opening new coal plants every week). They'll starve and die on their own if they want them to. They have to figure out how to make Americans stop having Americans.

Not being able to afford to feed yourself and then struggling to afford even one car for you and your wife is a step in that direction.

Nothing. It's all pretend. It's a cudgel. If it wasn't carbon they'd pretend it's something else.

It was done brilliantly, though. Heck, apparently we barely dodged an extinction level event a few thousand years ago because CO2 dipped so low that it could have potentially killed off larger life forms. The funny part is that's close to the CO2 levels the insist we try to get the earth to.

Probably not related to population control, though.

Urbanization is a huge factor, and why American demography - though not healthy - is not in the disaster territory most of Asia is.

We did it slowly, and we never achieved truly high density in most of our cities. We actually *do* have space (most people, anyway), at least outside of the high-density cities and those high-density cities are a minority of the total population.

Not so in Asia. They skipped all the intermediate steps and leapt directly to high-density urbanization and did so within a single generation. More room is unaffordable without going back to the countryside, and there's no work there.

That's essentially Agenda 21, yeah. Forcibly urbanize the population by destroying services (or letting them collapse) in the rural areas. Don't fix power lines. Don't fill potholes. 413 410 RIP Mr. D’oh. May the Lord continue to comfort your loved ones in the days to come. Your son and Jane have comforted me on some dark days of my own with their faith and humor, and I pray that all the love and prayers of friends unmet aids them now.

Amen

Damn fine lady.

415 The Economy - Stupid. some morons may have seen a few comments I've made regarding Bitcoin. I'd like to propose a section in the Morning Report devoted to Bitcoin. Give readers information and let them learn and make their draw their own conclusions. Bitcoin is Freedom as you will learn. We all love freedom, don't we? There is no denying how corrupt our Fiat and debt-based economy is. If you like our current $hitty crap Fiat cash then you'll love the new scam the government will give you. CBDC!! Educate yourself and make up your own mind about bitcoin. Bitcoin is sound money. Fiat currency is a scam. But please don't take my word for it. Educate yourself and learn. Then decide for yourself. Best wishes to all morons!

418 “Given their assessment of the potential economic effects of the recent banking-sector developments, the staff’s projection at the time of the March meeting included a mild recession starting later this year, with a recovery over the subsequent two years.

Fed Economists See Bank Turmoil Triggering Recession This Year

I thought we have been in a recession since sometime last year? Aren't we still in a recession and heading towards a depression (a recession that lasts beyond a certain time period)?

419 Parents need to immediately defund the schools. Better yet get together and engage in lawfare. Drain the school, the public libraries and anyone else who dares replace their authority over their kids.

Parents need to be as obsessive and meaner than these fanatics. The radicals only respect power so use it against them.
