Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.
Prayer Requests:
3/15 – NJ asked for prayers for his wife Christina. She had surgery in December which resulted in CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) in her right foot. The pain is interfering with her daily activities and preventing her from sleeping properly.
3/15 – Half Dozen asked for prayers from the Horde. One of her adult sons was diagnosed with a brain tumor. They are still evaluating him to decide next steps. It will probably involve brain surgery.
3/19 Update: Her son is in the hospital, and scheduled for surgery to remove the tumor that is at the point where the spinal cord connects into the brain. They have determined that the tumor has not spread to other areas of his body. Thanks for the prayers and friendship.
3/15 – Tcn in AK, Hail to the Thief asked for prayers for DH, who goes under the knife on Friday to remove an old stim from his spinal column. This will allow him to have an MRI, to figure out what to do about his 3 collapsed disks. Prayers, but optimistic prayers at this point.
3/16 – Cybersmythe continues to request prayers for his friend D.C., an occasional reader of the AoSHQ, who is in the hospital after having a stroke and some other health issues.
3/27 Update: Cybersmyth’s friend has died, so he requests prayers for her family and that her soul finds its way home. Cybersmythe has also been laid off and requests prayers from the Horde to find something new.
3/18 – Megthered asks that the Horde would keep her and her family in our thoughts and prayers. Her husband has to have open heart aortic valve replacement and her daughter has been diagnosed with lymphoma. They are being treated at Ohio State University and the family has rallied around them.
3/18 – gp asks for prayers for Al, who is homebound, needy, and lonely. He also asks for prayers for Brian, who is afflicted by the horrible maladies of old age.
4/1 Update: Brian is on the mend from his latest bout of disease.
3/20 – Ladyl asked for prayers for her son, who was hospitalized for a serious infection that happened after a minor injury.
3/22 – Sal asked for prayers for her sister’s ex, who became very ill while away from home (at his daughter’s destination wedding). He is in ICU with sepsis and kidney function problems.
3/29 – Notsothoreau asked for prayers for her co-worker, C. He is a young guy and the new management is grinding him down. Prayers that he can quickly find a new job where he is appreciated.
3/30 – Hrothgar asked for prayers on behalf of Ed L., who is a member of the Moron Gun Club. Ed’s mother passed away in Hawaii this past weekend. He and his brother will be busy settling her affairs there (in Hawaii) over the two weeks or so. He did get to see her over the Christmas holiday, which was a blessing.
4/1 – NaughtyPine’s mom is receiving hospice at home. She’s in decent spirits and seldom has pain; they are hoping this continues. Prayers also for Dad, who has health problems of his own and is convinced she’s getting better every day. They recently celebrated 58 years of marriage.
4/6 – Fenelon Spoke asks for continued prayers for the church she serves, that if it’s God’s will they stay open to the glory of God, through some financial arrangements with either the Open Space Committee or neighbors who have expressed an interest. She is touched and grateful for the support in various ways from kindly Horde members. God bless you all! Thanks to all praying for their church patriarch, Ray. He is doing better than he was a few days ago, and Fenelon so appreciates the prayer support. Also, thanks for prayers for Jessie, their organist. She is making some recovery and hopes to play for Mother’s Day. Also, she thanks God and a very kindly poster who has been advocating for FenSon to get a summer internship with his company. It’s really something FenSon is interested in, so prayers that it can be worked out would be appreciated.
4/8 – Jayhawkone asked for prayers for his sister-in-law GLL. A malignant polyp was discovered in her uterus on 4/6, and she will have a hysterectomy in the next two weeks.
4/12 – Prayers are appreciated for Jane D’Oh and her family. Her husband passed away on 4/12. He had a medical emergency on Monday, where his lungs filled with fluid, as happened in December. He received CPR and was hospitalized, on life support. He was surrounded by family and friends and passed away peacefully on Wednesday. She sends her appreciation for the prayers.

New Coke ultimately didn't do that much harm. Moreover, it was about changes to the *product itself* not how it was marketed. The easy fix was to switch the product back so people who get what they wanted.

With Bud Light, that's not an option. They've really screwed themselves because the only way out is to re-embrace 'frat boy' culture and the honky-tonk scene and that they cannot do.

Prayer for all asking and those not.

It's been 4 weeks since the kids and grandkids moved out.
I miss Saturday mornings. Younger Gson would always come out and sit on my lap wrapped in his "huggy" while we watched Saturday morning Cartoons.
House is empty and quiet and boring and I want my grandkids back in the house. I need their youthful exuberance to keep this place alive.

The kids can stay at their place though.

I guess they will be here later according to the wife. I brought home a few huge boxes yesterday and today we build the ultimate box fort. And they get to supervise while I do the shocks on my P/U.

Similar situation here for a while. The quiet was disquieting, but we got used to it.

They come over every other day or so, which is nice. The weather is great, so they are all about exploring the world around them. Little guy isn't quite 2, and finds birds mesmerizing. Teaching them the names of things is a hoot.

83 Thanks again to everyone who has been praying for our church or kindly sent donations through the kind encouragement of Salty Dog. I notifiedb my supervisor that these offerings
had come in and that should hopefully mean we can stay open till something else comes through, but last time I told him they don't want to close he said " I thought this would be all settled by now."
I also told him of my pastoral concerns for closing the church again, but I think we're "on a list" to close whatever the feelings of the folks, so continued prayers are much appreciated.

Ah, that would explain a few things. With Protestant denominations it's tricky because schism is sort of baked into the cake. Internal discipline seems non-existent, especially for the United Methodists.

I think most of the traditionalists are breaking away, which pretty much dooms any remaining ones, who will likely be singled out for punishment because the schismatics are now out of reach.

113 I imagine Ireland is much like Scotland, where I have spent some time. The rural roads are essentially one lane wide, with hedges right up to the lane. Makes for an interesting ride, not knowing if a lorry is coming toward you around the next bend. Also, when you come to a village, the buildings are right up to the street as well, and bunched closely, as if they were huddled together for warmth. It is kind of strange.

And someone once described his sermons as "a slightly amusing collection of random anecdotes that never lasts more than 10 minutes." I think my mother still resents that I was on better terms with my grandmother (her mom) than she was. We got along famously and her house was the place I always felt at home. I used to spend the summers there and even lived with my grandparents for two years.

Being a grandfather is a blast, so much fun with the little ones.

Best neighbor you could possible have. I think he was actually having the beginning of the stroke when I was talking to him across the gulley that separates our property's. I was going to go across to talk some more but he waved me off which he never did. Then he went and sat down his on a chair and stared off in the other direction. I thought maybe someone had passed so I left him alone. I didn't see Henry for a couple of weeks. Henry is about 74 and never married. Me the same. He washed his truck or one of his antique prime condition cars every weekend. He gave his 1/2 acre lawn a crew cut every other week and mowed his girlfriend's yard as well. Henry always had a small patch of mater's and pots of jalapenos. Both of which I was free to pick. Plus a few pots of flowers places on the steps. Henry never stopped. I hear he is staying with his girlfriend. I will leave a card in his mailbox for him and cut his grass. I miss and love my Henry dearly.

I have been to Ireland only once -- last summer -- and, honestly, I was more interested in spending quality time with my son and his family than doing "tourist" stuff (nothing against Ireland, just wanted to be with loved ones who no longer live in America) ... We rented a home for a week and took day trips to many of the usual sites ... Spent an entire day at Inch Beach with teenage grandchildren, which was great! ... And while I do not drink beer or alcohol, I did enjoy the culture and camaraderie atmosphere of Irish pubs ... I hope you have a wonderful trip!

As a result, I've spent the last couple of weeks sorting the whiskey and targeting those with very little left for retirement. What this means is that I have a very formidable collection of empty bottles. My recycling will look like I drank two gallons of the stuff in as many weeks.

I'm not saying I won't get there someday, but I ain't there yet.

And they never really switched back. Coke Classic was not the same as Old Coke. I worked at a grocery store at the time and stocked up on Old Coke. When Classic came out, I had Old Coke to compare it to. It certainly was more similar than New Coke but still not the same.

My theory is that this was when they switched from sugar to HFCS. New Coke was supposed to camouflage the change. Classic was the best they could do to mimic Old Coke in a HFCS formula.

I wish I had paid attention to the ingredient labels to see if that might be the case.

From what I understand, this is exactly what happened. You can tell from Mexican coke as well as the real sugar throwbacks.

One thing is mouthfeel. The modern HFCS sodas both have a ... slimier feel as well as coat the tastebuds and make other sweet things taste muted. Real sugar has a far cleaner taste.

Still screwed off school to chase what I was interested in (my grades caused this) like reading encyclopedias by flashlight until 3 am. Drawing. Guitar, which my parents took away. My parents offered me any car I wanted if I could just bring home C's or better and I wouldn't do it.
I just refused to sit in a room full of people who thought I was weird. I hated school. Doodled in a note book when I bothered to show up.

I guess I was weird but I did alright in life.

I used to twitch continually, pace, fiddle, futz and stack things throughout the day. An ex-gf used to complain because I would go full speed and get into things and do things and make strange logical connections and talk about them. And then go to bed and not move for eight hours, and get up and do it again. I am not bipolar, that was just they way I dealt with a stressful job and life.
She was a lab tech who did liked doing repetitive bench work and suffered from insomnia (and was one of the smartest women I have ever known) and I think I got to be too much for her.

Hardest thing in the world. I've spent my life in sales and marketing and the single most important thing is trust.

People buy from people and they need to trust them. If you screw up and break the trust it is damn near impossible to earn it back but the only path is admit you screwed up and work to prove you are worthy of that trust again.

It forced me to find alternatives and I found much better ones. I learned that Bic makes a really excellent disposable shaver and Barbasol is indistinguishable from Gillette shaving cream, but cheaper.

I'll never go back to Gillette, apology or not.

When Longs got bought by CVS my wife worked there and I was about to loose my cost + 10 % discount so I bought a case of blades. Here, 12 years later I'm on the last pack.

I don't want to change razors. I can shave perfectly with the track 2 in the shower, no mirror, no foam, just soap and not butcher my face. If I try anything else I cut myself at least once.
I'll probably juust stop shaving in a year or so when this pack goes dull.
