  • We'll make our own Twitter API! With blackjack, and hookers! (PyPI)

Twitter recently cancelled the existing free API plan and replaced it with a free API plan which is useless and a paid API plan which is absurd.

If you know what an API is, you might wonder how the Twitter website works, and the answer is that it uses an API.

    A free one.

So now there's software that lets you use that instead of paying $100 per month for 50 API requests, which would last you nearly 11 seconds of active use.

5 Notably the FTC did this. Amazon hasn't done squat.

If there's a significant internet site where the reviews are not compromised, I don't know about it. If they were ever worth anything, internet review are not worth anything now.

This is a trick where you take an Amazon page for a product with positive reviews - possibly even legitimate ones - and change all the contents to push your own brand of bullshit while keeping the reviews in place.

Yup, caught onto this before. I'm a review reader who goes 'WTF are they talking about? "Runs small" on a toilet brush?

13 Evening and morning to the folken!

Pixy, if you have a moment, a quick tech question. I've recently bought a new phone, a Samsung Galaxy. There are some photos and a ringtone on my older LG Android phone that I'd like to transfer. What's the simplest way to do it? Failing that, what is the best way? I've seen descriptions of Smart Switch, and of another software package (free) that you download to your PC and connect the two phones with cables to the PC, etc. What works?

The pipe tobacco makers have some neat names for their products. A Scots company has Marlin Flake and Stirling Flake (part of the inspiration for my black cat's name, except that I've never tried that leaf; it's probably way too strong for me). There are tobaccos called War Horse, Cult's Blood Red Moon, Penzance, and Rouxgaroux (!). A far cry from good old Sir Walter Raleigh, which is my standard leaf to smoke in a new pipe.

-Send the photos in emails to your new phone/PC. I assume any aware person has more than one email and can send to themselves.
-Use a data transfer cable/charger mini-USB to USB cord to download photos/files to a PC; they should be in the DCM folder. I distinguish because some cheap cords are charger-only and won't transfer data. Transfer photos onto a USB/flash drive.
-The ringtone should have a file that can be transferred, if not it should be findable on your new phone or available somewhere else and can be downloaded again.

Newsom would be a village idiot in any village outside of Canada, where the PM holds that spot down.

When you select for lack of positive results, and mediocre, grasping failures, Newsom is hard to top. But they will, because achievers are so last century. There is no bottom to the cascade failures that want to rule over an anthill, rather than govern a well-run country.

Some phones have an internal SD card that can be removed and plugged into a reader with a USB plug.
For photos on flip phones I wanted, there is no practical way to get those off: and they are thumbnail size. I eventually took a reasonable quality digital camera and took pictures of the screen! They were terrible resolution but there were photos I wanted regardless of poor quality.

Three and a half decades ago I wrote free software for a small school library of ~5,000 books. The software created bar codes for every book, printed bar code library cards for every student, and the librarian keyed in some info on every book. I hooked up a bar code reader and all the librarian had to do was scan the students card and the book(s). She could generate lists of overdue books and pass then out to the teachers. The software was written in 'Clipper' a relational data base software program. The program worked continuously without a hitch for three decades until the school closed for insufficient students. Len, the problem is that I have difficulty sending emails from the old phone. It used to work, I'd done it in the past. But in the most recent attempt, nothing came across.

So I need to buy a data transfer cord that will go from the USB-C port on the new phone to the USB port (larger) on the PC; and one that will run from the USB port on the PC to the USB port on the old phone. Then, theoretically, I should be able to use Windows Explorer to see the files and transfer them from the older phone to the newer?

Since the school closed and I retired I've gradually shed hard drives that carried sensitive business information and my copy of Clipper is gone. The problem is, the interest in this private school is now sky high and there is talk of opening again. I just hope to hell they saved the computer and I left the source code and Clipper on the school computer. I guess the point is nothing is forever.

5,000 books. That's one helluva lot of work to do over.

I don't 'get' the Trump hate. Yeah, I know, it's likely because I *don't hate him* but there's gotta be more to it than that.

For example: My aunt and my sister both "hate Trump" and I mean hate, really HATE him to at a psychopathic level!

When convo turns to Trump, they go off the rails into unbelievable diatribes. It's... surreal. The long strings of expletives... coming from women who don't usually have "potty mouth". It's as if they're possessed. Seems truly demonic.

Ugh. Fully programmed, they are. NPCs.

"The name of employers must be disclosed when making political donations, but more than 4.7 million donations came from people who claimed they did not have an employer. Those 4.7 million donations totaled $346 million ActBlue raised and sent to liberal causes."

The trend is continuing this year: An Action Fund examination of 2020 data from January through August showed an uptick in "unemployed" donations through ActBlue, to 50.1% this year.

Iowa just passed ESAs, so I'm guessing we'll see another rise in enrollment. The local public school went online for the Kung Flu Panic, but the teachers didn't have lesson plans because they didn't have "adequate time to adapt plans for online learning" (yay teacher's unions), so an entire quarter of learning went down the drain. That didn't sit so well with parents, so the public school lost families to the Christian school and homeschooling.

Once Woke Inc invades it must destroy. Education does not teach math or reading but Emotional Social skills. And the science is really alchemistry. Same is for FiB. Criminal (robbers thugs etc) are the downcast of society and just need a second or 21st chance. At the same time that people are seeking church homes. What a great way to damage relationships between people and promote suspicion. Very similar to the lockdown vs freedom inter-family destruction they sowed during COVID. Or the related effort where they let people die from not treating them to promote the idea that the virus is deadly in order to push the vaxxine, and intentionall sow distrust between the people through that.

Everything is an op.

I believe it. One of the teachers ( a lib, the only one of the teachers of that persuasion ) wanted a system to tie into the Library of Congress at five thousand dollars a year. She felt my system was inferior. D'uh, it was, I'll admit. My system only had as much information on each book as the librarian felt like punching in. School couldn't afford the LOC system but they gave her what she wanted while the library still used mine. A couple of years later the school closed because of financial issues.

It was fun. I remember discovering the code to build an index for a library system years before I volunteered. I never would have thought of it myself. It automagically dropped out certain words like 'the' and the like. So you could either punch in 'The Diary of' or 'Diary of' and get the same result. In one line of code. It would have taken me ten to do the same thing.
