The Morning Report — 4/10/23

prattlebullhorn.jpg

Good morning, kids. Hope all of you had a blessed Easter and a happy Passover. In scanning a number of stories, especially the essay from Victor Davis Hanson, as well as my conversation with CBD on the latest podcast (here and in the sidebar), I'd be lying to you if I didn't say I was not both more than a bit depressed and frankly scared out of my wits for what's coming down the pike.

Yet, that said, on a positive note, the GOP in Tennessee at least has the cojones to stand up and do the right thing. That's the good news. Sort of. The bad news is that we have degenerated to such a point where elected representatives engage in naked thuggery to incite violence within the walls of the state capital in order to hijack the legislative process to impose their will on the citizenry. As I said, the sort of good news is that the Republicans stood up and did their duty in expelling the criminal thugs. The fact that doing one's duty is seen as something to cheer rather than just being par for the course also speaks to the level we've sunk.

So the pea-brained, cackling supertanker of semen-guzzling vice presidential poseur goes to Tennessee to heap praise on these three criminal goons, while ignoring the Christian families of those gunned down by a transexual terrorist whose alleged "victimhood" status she and her ilk continue to egg on in the first place.

Meanwhile, in another part of the forest, as former President Trump's sham prosecution/persecution continues apace, a mortal nemesis of Leftist Democrats is yet again being targeted for termination. In some ways, his mere presence is and has been a greater threat to them than Trump.

US media went ballistic over Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ until-now-unreported vacationing courtesy of his host, longtime family friend, GOP megadonor and Texas real-estate billionaire Harlan Crow.

But that reminds us again of how little the press takes note of the influence of a far more consequential multibillionaire, George Soros.

For what it’s worth, Thomas explains that the rules didn’t require him to disclose those trips until recently, and he will going forward.

Plus, Crow has never had business before the Supreme Court, so there’s zero conflict of interest.

Yet Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she wants to impeach Thomas over the news.

Meanwhile, The Post reports that Soros’ eldest son Alexander has visited the Biden White House at least 14 times as his dad’s emissary, a dozen in 2022 alone — regularly meeting with top advisors to the president.

What produced the Soros clan’s high-level access? George, 92, has spent an estimated $32 billion-with-b on his various worldwide causes in recent decades via his Open Society Foundations and other nonprofits as well as regular seven-figure giving to political action committees.

Alexander, 37, has given at least $11 million to lefty PACs in his own right — and delighted in sharing pics with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Beyond that, Soros protégés have packed [spurious president] Joe Biden’s transition committee and White House staff.

It shows: Top Soros priorities include opening borders and extreme action in the name of climate change.

Team Biden has delivered big-time on both, with millions of illegal immigrants entering the United States (along with a flood of fentanyl and other illegal drugs) on Biden’s watch, and tens of billions of taxpayer dollars directed at climate action.

Yes, the hypocrisy is of course radiant, as well as the fact that like Trump, Thomas has really committed no crime and, at worst, perhaps bad optics. Nothing more. Aside from the fact of removing one of the last firewalls of sanity on SCOTUS, Titty Caca and her ilk want to destroy Clarence Thomas because of who he is – a black man who thinks for himself and understands the real source of the genocide of American blacks since the founding of the former United States: Democrat-Leftists. As I said, that is political kryptonite as potent or more than Donald Trump is to the Deep State. But Trump is Junta Enemy #1.

The Trump arrest is an act of sheer desperation, based on a tortured legal theory that seeks to turn mislabeled payments into federal election meddling. It should force us to ask once again: Why do they hate Trump so much? Alvin Bragg’s prosecution is part and parcel of a multifront war waged against the former president by the entire US establishment and its institutions. While in the White House, Trump gave the ruling class massive tax cuts and sweeping deregulation, so what’s the beef? His foreign-policy heresies. To the frustration of those who benefit from it, Trump worked to unwind the American empire. Indeed, he has done more to restrain the US imperium than any politician in 75 years.

Within a few months of his arrival in the Oval Office, it became clear that Trump’s seemingly preposterous rhetoric about ending America’s “forever wars” wasn’t a joke. Yes, he ordered a few missile and drone strikes here and there, but unlike all of his recent predecessors, he didn’t start any new wars. Indeed, he wound down numerous small wars and negotiated a peace settlement in Afghanistan, even if the dirty work of the final withdrawal fell to [spurious president] Biden. . .

. . . This cavalier disregard for establishment interests is, at bottom, why the national-security class— as well as the political consultants, the media, and mainstream politicians—despise him. It is the real reason the Russiagate hoax had so much traction; that cartoonish fabrication was a way of telling the American public that Trump was bad for US foreign policy without also explaining the truth of what US foreign policy really looks like and who it really benefits. . .

. . . So certain are the centrist and liberal chattering classes in the prejudices against Trump that they can’t understand how the Trump arrest appears to people in countries that have been pushed around by the US imperium. Nayib Bukele, the president of El Salvador, spoke for many across the Global South when he tweeted: “Think what you want about former President Trump and the reasons he’s being indicted. But just imagine if this happened in any other country, where a government arrested the main opposition candidate. The United States’ ability to use ‘democracy’ as foreign policy is gone.”

If the Trump arrest appears highly political, that’s because it is, and honest people will admit that. . .

. . . For better or for worse, American presidents have been shielded from prosecution. The downside of this is that our leaders haven’t faced consequences for their crimes, despite having done far worse than Trump. But the upside is that political struggles are confined to the realm of politics and electioneering, and the justice system is protected from contamination by partisan vendettas. The American judiciary, for all its faults, is often the last protection people have against the overreach of permanent state bureaucracies and corporate power. With the Trump arrest, we have crossed a dangerous threshold.

Well, in a sense, it was inevitable that we crossed that threshold considering what Trump did and what he wanted to do. Look back to what he said in his inaugural. It was a shot across the bow at about 95% of the people on the reviewing stand with him and all over DC in general.

And here we are a little over six years later and our world turned upside down, with things that were unthinkable even back then now a routine part of our daily discourse. They're not going after Trump because they necessarily fear running against him in 2024, although in an actual fair election he would wipe the floor with whoever the vegetable-du-jour the Democrats decide to run against him.

The fact is, with the exception of perhaps Georgia, the other five states that were the epicenter of the 2020 fraud (along with the degradation of whatever fig leaf of election integrity laws there were across the nation wiped out by the Chinese COVID lockdown psy-op) are now even more "fortified" with Democrats in governorships, secretaries-of-state, attorneys general and supreme court judgeships. So what are the odds Trump, DeSantis or whoever can overcome that.

And yet, there is this full court press on the Democrat Left to sew up the youth vote (for geriatric dementia cases, funny enough) as well as the so-called suburban women freaked out over abortion. I mean, if it's really in the bag for them, why the concern?

Meh, who the hell knows.

66 Over those same three years, the working-age population grew by 6.6 million. For unemployment to be back down to 3.5%, you’d think there’d be 6.6 million new jobs created.

But the number of people employed went up by only 2.1 million over the past three years.

So where did the other 4.5 million people go? Most of them simply dropped out of the labor force. They don’t have a job, and they aren’t looking for one.

I think many people learned to game the system with unemployment and welfare.

72 he bad news is that we have degenerated to such a point where elected representatives engage in naked thuggery to incite violence within the walls of the state capital in order to hijack the legislative process to impose their will on the citizenry. As I said, the sort of good news is that the Republicans stood up and did their duty in expelling the criminal thugs. The fact that doing one's duty is seen as something to cheer rather than just being par for the course also speaks to the level we've sunk.

A Republican actually doing something about anything - especially if that something involves personal punishment of a superior Democrat - is fairly novel.

But that is *damn* hard to prove, and Bragg's case - as near as I can tell - depends on Cohen's assertions about what that money was for. Cohen, who is an admitted perjurer and a known liar. I will not concede this point by default. There is no reason to do so.

Ugh. In 2017 or 2018, I was at the San Francisco Hilton for a conference. The breakfast buffet (part of the conference package) had everything labeled with its gluten status. Because of the requirements for "gluten free" labeling (it's essentially Kosher rules - there can be no contact, separate dishes and pots, etc.), stuff without gluten that is not prepared in a gluten-free environment cannot be called "gluten-free."

How the Hilton labeled everything was like:
Toast: Contains gluten
Bacon: No gluten added

That bacon wasn't prepared on a gluten-free line, so they couldn't call it "gluten-free" but they also want to reassure the idiots that they weren't dumping gluten concentrate all over it, either.

That if there was a side deal with Cohen like, "pay the bitch off and I'll make you whole later through regular billing" but the subsequent payments aren't marked as, "Reimbursement to Cohen for paying the bitch off," then the record-keeping requirements have been violated.

It's mighty thin, but it's also almost impossible to prove. All they have to go on is Cohen's assertion that it was repayment for settlement costs. Trump's side could argue either that it actually wasn't (there's no proof either way) or even that repaying Cohen for out-of-court settlement costs *is* a payment for legal services as such, and no record-keeping violations occurred.

It's all incredibly weak. As Jack Straw pointed out, the statute of limitations also expired on it. The tie-in to NYS campaign finance violations is even weaker than the main argument, especially as the FEC (different laws and jurisdiction, but more meaningful and powerful) found nothing wrong.

Well here's the kicker, we are simply inferring what Bragg has in mind of what the concealed crime is, he never states what the 2nd crime is.

In fact he probably will never name the second crime.

We've seen it from SF, to NYC, St Louis, to Loudon County to now Austin and that is just the tip of the iceberg. There are something like 70 of them in total.

It definitely sucks in the short term but once they pop up on radar overwhelming public support is against them. Chesa Boudin was removed in SF of all places and more are starting to face that kind of pushback.

What Bragg is doing is taking a misdemeanor records keeping violation, a statue expired violation to boot, and resurrecting it by inferring the entries were intended to further another crime, which extends the statute of limitation and converts the misdemeanor into a felony, ipso facto.

What it's really about is that the Catholic Church is making so much money from the fedgov over adoptions and placements that they don't even make a fuss when Walter Reed Catholics are denied the sacraments at Easter. The church has been bought off now and the fedgov is just rubbing their face in it for us all to see.

Yet just 3 years ago, hardly any church that I know of had in person Easter services because of the biggest op/lie of my lifetime…. Covid response. Churches fell for the op and so did society at large. I don’t think we’ll ever fully understand just how destructive the whole Covid response fiasco truly was…. It certainly revealed that our society is weak and ready to be servile to government. Frightening when you mentally review the whole thing

She's right, but no amount of "standing together to reject" is going to be successful if they actually do it, because the purpose will be expropriation and oppression.

Right now, this entire scheme is a non-starter. A digital-only dollar will ruin the Eurodollar market and end the USD's use in international settlements as it will make repatriating dollars - and all national currencies *must* be repatriated eventually for them to have any value - too difficult or even impossible in some cases. A Digital Dollar will have domestic value because it will allow expropriation at will and ensures no escape from the inflation tax and it enables effective wealth taxes - but it destroys the Dollar as an international currency.

Right now, that is a bad bet. 3-5 years from now, is much more ambiguous.

283 Regarding munitions stockpiles...

It's not "just" mortars, bullets and other small arms. In any offensive with China air-to-air missiles, anti-ship missiles and a host of high end weaponry like cruise missiles are going to be needed. IIRC the Navy's budget for LRASM's (Long Range Anti Ship Missile) procures only a handful in FY-23. There's only 100 in the entire inventory. A single, coordinated strike against a PLAN (China's navy) task force might very well eat up several dozen of those missiles in seconds.

In an all out war with China we'd be out of ammo the first day. Or at the very least, depleted to the point at which rearming would be necessary. Rearming at facilities far away from Taiwan.

316 Right now, this entire scheme is a non-starter.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at April 10, 2023 09:06 AM (t0OGg)

US has to control repatriation though. And destroy some sizable portion of off shore USDs.

SVB seems to have taught a lot of decisionmakers that there is no more time to waste. Those quadrillions (unironic) of USDs CHN has collected are deposited in US banks like JPM etc etc. Trivially easy to make JPM into SVB.

The US has to be able to confiscate USDs at this point. That is an actual National Security issue. How else?

True, but it will not be our choice. If Red China attempts to conquer Taiwan, that happens regardless. A worldwide economic downturn, likely lasting years if not a decade. The importance of Taiwan in the international electronics market cannot be understated. That whole sector detonates if Taiwan falls.

But if Red China makes that play - and it might - there's likely no avoiding that outcome. Taiwan will defend itself, and Japan will engage even if we don't. Korea might. If Red China moves on Taiwan, regional war and the destruction of the high-value electronics industry in Taiwan is extremely likely. We could engage, sit it out or even fight with Red China and it won't change that outcome.

The best outcome would be if we or Japan have something like Operation Paperclip ready to go to evacuate the highest-value engineers to friendly shores to rebuild capacity and capability quickly.

Sure it does.
It will be the ultimate "two Californias" type setup, where the normies/people who pay taxes, bills, follow the rules are micromanaged while the immigrant/cartel/homeless class allowed to flaunt all laws and responsibilities. VDH has been writing about this for years - they only bother enforcing the laws on those who follow them, while the illegals/underbelly are never pursued because they don't pay fines or taxes, don't get permits, don't show up in court, and have no investment in the community they need to stick around to protect (disappear at a moment's notice).

It is not a national security issue. The debt paper held by enemies could be seen as a national security issue, but not Eurodollars floating around being used for settlement. That is what has kept inflation under control for 35 years and why our current inflation is way less bad that it would be otherwise. Without international demand for dollars, the inflation comes home and comes home fast.

The whole China is going to take over Taiwan is simply Western, primarily US MIC/Uniparty noise.

China will continue to subvert Taiwan and bring it over to it's sphere of influence but will more than likely never try to directly take it over, they're far too smart to get bogged down like that.

Besides, they own our politicians and are increasingly able to buy off the European politicians so I expect the US will increasingly become more and more hysterical as its Global power begins to wane.

The market. Taiwan concentrated early on electronics and developed a competitive advantage. They're very good at it. TSMC is a well-run company that pushes the envelope on production at all times, and creates the demand for a lot of upstream innovation at outfits like ASML to make the machinery to make it possible. They developed it over the course of about 40 years. One of the problems with chipmaking as an industry is that it isn't particularly decentralized. There are major single-source choke points. Taiwan (TSMC) and Korea (Samsung) are two of them. This is one of the things that the CHIPS act is trying to solve and doing a fairly bad job of solving by attempting to reinforce the US' position.

354 The best message for a preacher to give to his parishioners to assist you politically would be to tell them to drop out of the worldly systems.

Return to the things of value. The internet is not important if you know your neighbors. Corporate beer and cookies are not important if you cook and farm. Sicko school teachers are not important if you homeschool or Christian school your kids. Corporate CRT meetings aren't important if you work with your hands. Television and movies aren't important if you entertain yourself with your family and your Christian community.

Leave the world to its own devices, it will burn. It is not built on firm foundations. It is built on death, perversion and avarice.

You won't stop that. It will always be that way. But you can refuse to participate in it. Jesus had no earthly home, and yet had everything that was important. Trying to 'preserve' the sinful, lawless, fallen world by keeping a foot in both sides is a fool's errand.

Red China is increasingly desperate and economics are not Xi's main focus. I wouldn't rule out a Chinese invasion of Taiwain. Not this year, but sometime in the next five years is possible, especially as the mainland's problems continue to compound. It also matches Xi's ambition to be the most recent player to fully unify China.

I don't think war there is guaranteed, but I don't think it's a non-threat.

362 It is not a national security issue.

That the case was in doubt until the verdict, despite that obvious video evidence, shows how much self defense cases favor the prosecution. The prosecution case in any self defense action is very simple: "The victim is dead. This person admits he killed the victim." The prosecution gets to assign motive to the defendant:"He was carrying a gun, so he was looking for trouble." The person arguing self defense has the burden of proving facts that ONLY he knows to be true: That he was in fear for his life because it was obvious to HIM that the deceased intended to kill him or cause great bodily harm.

We handled this in a clever way during WWII. The money sent to Africa with Army had a different-colored seal (yellow instead of green, IIRC). We were by no means assured of victory in that theater and the risk of defeat was seen as very high. If that had happened and the enemy got the money, the "yellow dollars" would have been repudiated.

She has made many mistakes, but she's been rich and powerful enough to overcome them. Most recently, the aggression against Australia has been a disaster. The over-extension of "belt and road" is bankrupting a number of tremendously important domestic firms.

China has made plenty of mistakes, just fairly few major ones. The entropy is catching up fast.

Used to work for a chip company that made their own chips, from the silicon wafers up for decades, then shut it all down and went with TSMC.
It was cheaper with TSMC.
If you have never been to Taiwan, you might not know that Taiwan is about as dirty as the mainland. My daughter had a Taiwanese roommate who said she had to set aside 2 or 3 days when she went back to adapt to the bad air.
TSMC, just like the manufacturing on the mainland is one of the places where Americans outsource their dirty manufacturing.

China is actively shooting at India and Vietnam on a regular basis, and disrupting fishing ll over the South China Sea with their fake "fishing boat" navy actions, so they aren't making any friends in their own neighborhood. The Belt and Road initiative hasn't generated much goodwill, especially since the Chinese often treat native populations as slave labor. The One Child policy has their population in free fall. Their cities and provinces are in terrible debt positions, even by our own standards. China has plenty of sizeable problems.

And, they are armed to the teeth.

388 Good morning, all, and thanks, J.J.

Was thinking how AOC's "influence" is everywhere, the opening volley for the progressive's game plans. Congressman Jamaal Bowman, a member of the squad, gets into the verbal, very public tiff with Tom Massie about "gun violence." TN state house demonstrations include the involvement of 3 dem. state House reps & "a strong contingent" of teachers demanding tougher measures. Two of the three - both black men - get expelled (though largely theater as they'll be back). Enter Obama and Gore to defend democracy. This ain't going away.

TX fed judge halts the FDA approval of the 'abortion pill.' A judge in WA state orders U.S. authorities not to make changes to access. AOC says, "I do not believe that the courts have the authority over the FDA that they just asserted. And I do believe that it creates a crisis. Should the Supreme Court do that, it would essentially institute a national abortion ban." She called on the admin to ignore the ruling & House dems have already introduced a bill regarding the TX "abortion pill" ruling. This ain't going away.

Justice Thomas is, again, the bogeyman against progress.

Can it be AOC for VP?

389 I mean, if it's really in the bag for them, why the concern?

There is no concern about the outcome of the election (Democrat victory). There is concern by the Deep State only about how much effort they will have to put into rigging and stealing the election to achieve their pre-determined outcome.

They completely underestimated 2016. They were ready with backup plan after backup plan for 2020. They likely do not want to have to use all their backup plans again in 2024. So they are prepping the battlefield now to make the steal easier in 2024 than it was for them in 2020.

Other than that, I do not believe that anyone on the Marxist Left and in the Deep State is concerned about the 2024 election results. The election is fortified. That was a given after they rigged and stole the 2020 election and faced zero consequences.
