Law Professor: This Indictment Is a Legal Embarrassment. It's Trump's Fault for Making Alvin Bragg Turn Our Legal System Into a Joke.
The Professional Managerial Class had an undiagnosed, untreated nervous breakdown in 2015-2016, and discarded notions of professionalism, sobriety, and rationality entirely. They destroyed the prestige and authority their institutions built up over, in some cases, literally a thousand years of human history, burning it all up in just a few years in a literally mad frenzy to Get Trump.
Some of them are beginning to realize this. Writing in the New York Times of all places, professor Jed Handelsman Shugerman writes an analysis titled, "The Trump Indictment Is a Legal Embarrassment."But he's pretty sure he knows who's responsible for the unhinged maniacs who fancy themselves as Stewards of Our Civilization turning into vicious, animalistic monsters: It's Trump's fault, obviously. Look what he made us do.
Tuesday was historic for the rule of law in America, but not in the way Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney, would have imagined. The 34-count indictment -- which more accurately could be described as 34 half-indictments -- was a disaster. It was a setback for the rule of law and established a dangerous precedent for prosecutors. This legal embarrassment reveals new layers of Trumpian damage to the legal foundations of the United States: Mr. Trump's opponents react to his provocations and norms violations by escalating and accelerating the erosion of legal norms. The case appears so weak on its legal and jurisdictional basis that a state judge might dismiss the case and mitigate that damage. More likely, the case is headed to federal court for a year, where it could lose on the grounds of federal pre-emption -- only federal courts have jurisdiction over campaign finance and filing requirements. Even if it survives a challenge that could reach the Supreme Court, a trial would most likely not start until at least mid-2024, possibly even after the 2024 election. Instead of the rule of law, it would be the rule of the circus.

This item does, however, seem to answer the question I've had since the outset. How can an alleged federal election law violation be adjudicated in a state court? I still don't get the technical aspect here, but that was the first thought I had when the ridiculous indictment was announced.
I suppose there could be some state law about business documents - but with no injured party, how TF does such an item become actionable? Not like there was tax fraud, or misrepresentation of business facts in sale of a privately owned company, where the document charge would be an instrumental one, supporting the bigger charge.

It isn't a lack of self-awareness, it's a function of the propaganda. The NYT represents one of two propaganda camps, with the WaPo anchoring the other.
The NYT is the State/IC paper. The WaPo is the Party/LE paper. Both now have articles about how as much as they like it, this is probably doomed and illegitimate.

It is probably a big deal. We need to see what happens over the next 18 months to two years, because it is *very* possible that it will not be sustained and it will drop below the G7 again. China is in serious trouble, South Africa is collapsing in real time, Brazil *still* hasn't found its feet (though that might be an upshot over time, since they eventually might). There's a ton of downside potential for the BRICS aggregate GDP.
It's also beside the point, I think. The *real* problem isn't the relative wealth of the BRICS bloc, but that they are shattering the USD standard for international settlements. That is a much, much bigger problem and I don't think there's any way to stop it. We brought it on ourselves.

The law industry and general culture, have been smearing crime victims as vigilantes and/or stupid for fighting back or resisting. Three plane loads of people did exactly what their betters told them to.
Today we learned that the FBI conducted a 'training exercise in an occupied hotel in Boston and interrogated the wrong person, in a shower, for an hour. Their nonexistent medical expertise led them to conclude that the victim was "unhurt".
This is what they have thought of the peasantry for decades, and why 'backing the blue' is bullshit.

The argument is probably along the lines, "Trump committed us to an impossible schedule and our hands were tied. We did the best we could, but it was disastrous because of the conditions Trump laid down before we got here."
Which is bullshit. It can properly be laid at the feet of the Joint Chiefs, who disobeyed orders and did nothing to prepare for the withdrawal under the assumption that it would be canceled once Biden was installed.

It seems that the Enterprise visits a new planet while they are being attacked by their enemies on a nearby planet. However, despite the landing party hearing the warnings, the see, hear and feel no evidence of attack. It turns out that the attack is a computer simulation and the ship (but not the landing party) are determined by the computer to be casualties in this bizarre game. However, despite not being real, this really is no game. You see, the two planets completely hate each other and would have completely annihilated each other with their high-tech weapons countless decades before had both sides not agreed to stop fighting a conventional war and begin fighting a computerized one. The logic was that BOTH societies could be preserved and the "victims" could be humanely euthanized to make the war more tolerable!!! This sick arrangement seems natural to the planet's inhabitants and they cannot understand why the crew of the ship refuse to report to the disintegration chambers in order to preserve the precarious balance and avoid a real all-out war!!!!

As to the budget the DIABLOs in the senate sealed that deal in the last congress. However there is the debt ceiling that could be used but it won't be. I predict at least an increase to $40 billion.

Irrespective of what the uninformed write, McCarthy and Congress have already layed out their position on the debt ceiling in several letters which Biden threw in the trash. They have also asked the Mushroom Princess Yellen, what exactly will happen when they run out of extraordinary measures. That includes delaying principal payment on certain UST issues. Some call that a default and it's what the market has prepared for the last few times this happened. It's what they are preparing for again.

Yes. The Treasury can *choose* default in the absence of a debt ceiling increase, and I have little doubt that they will. They could also choose not, and prioritize debt payments over other spending.
