Well, Amazon continues to confuse. Yesterday morning I cancelled the sound bar I had bought because delivery was promised last Saturday and other then some "package is waiting to be delivered" verbiage, nothing.
So they sent me an update onTuesday morning if the package didn't arrive Tuesday to cancel and they would refund the money, which they never charged because the system, I guess, never told them it shipped. So I cancelled yesterday about 4 AM. 11 AM yesterday, the doorbell rings, I get to the door in time to see a UPS driver, driving away. And the sound bar sitting on my porch. (me) Fareastern Virginia, the 51 state? Posted by: Ciampino - which one is the perfect cat? at April 06, 2023 05:08 AM I was gonna suggest he look up the legality of something called 'Delta 8' in his state. It's basically CBD oil which has been chemically modified to have 8 carbon atoms instead of the 9 in pot - or something like that. Effect is similar to pot, only milder, with no paranoia. Not sure how it would effect RA. Legal in most states. So far. Usual Disclaimer: Do not drive or operate heavy machinery. Available in gummies (start with half) or vape cartridges. Pretty sure anyone using it would fail a drug test, though. If there's a 'Vape Store' nearby they almost certainly have it. Just checked: 'No. Delta 8 THC is illegal in Idaho, for now.' Once upon a time Verizon was supposed to ship me a phone and somehow everything went wrong and I landed in a state where they asserted I had a phone but I didn't. When I called customer service the basic response I got was "computer says no." After multiple runs at Verizon's customer service, I just gave up and bought a used phone. In your case, I suggest you go to Seattle and camp out in front of the Amazon headquarters. Pixy, in case you hadn't seen it, I saw an article saying that Amazon's "internet service" (their words) covered 90% of America. It was click bait, of course, but I was wondering what they were talking about.
It's the permissions you give Amazon to share your devices and internet service with your neighbors so that, if I understand correctly, the chance of devices not reporting to Amazon 24/7 are greatly reduced. It showed a map, too. It was uniquely disturbing. Posted by: Biden 2022: I am making sure he does not become the next president again at April 06, 2023 05:35 AM (KETMo) 74

Smuggling cocaine out of Columbia, the production capital of the universe, in your luggage is only a slightly better option than swallowing 30 condoms full of cocaine. As an insomnia entertainment option, provided you like to see the peasants go into complete denial and then complete tears, it's pretty solid.

After I got the email back from Amazon with my code for the return of the package that was still being shipped, or not, and never charged for, I get an email from them with and apology and that the package, that was delivered, is transferred to UPS for delivery with the UPS tracking number, and to allow a couple extra days to deliver it. I checked the tracking number on UPS and it shows that it was (and it was) delivered yesterday and 12:20 at the front door. A few years ago, I'd ordered some miscellaneous parts for the old Ferd truck...
They were delivered, but I didn't know it. Must've been raining when the box arrived, so carrier put it at the side door, where it would stay dry. Meanwhile, I waited and waited, never checking the (rarely used) side door area. Packages usually got left inside the front screen door or simply left out in the rain next to it. Finally, I emailed the vendor that pkg never arrived. No problem, they would ship a duplicate of that order... Couple days later I was cleaning up at the side porch and TA-DA! Found the original boxed order. Called the vendor. Oh, they were about to send replacement and "thank you SO MUCH for telling us" and emailed a coupon for $20 off next order. Honesty pays. Sometimes. But a clear conscience is priceless. Posted by: JQ at April 06, 2023 05:57 AM (o0Fxd) 95

San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle belong in dystopian novels and not reality. I find it remarkable that our culture has unraveled so profoundly in the last 20 to 25 years. I had a long love affair with Seattle and I never felt afraid wherever I went. The last couple years there I was armed no matter where I went and the last time it was there, a year ago it had devolved even further. I had planned to spend the day exploring my old haunts. All I did was do a cursory drive through and then got the hell out of there. Living in Las Cruces may lack some of the nice cities of the larger urban areas, but what it lacks it makes up for with neighbors and fellow citizens that still look you in the eye and smile at you. I have gone from entertaining trips to large cities for some big city fun to I have absolutely no interest in going there ever again. We have lost much. The new Chicago mayor, a taller version of Beetlejuice, is expanding the Chicago's sanctuary status. My quick read of what he intends to do is effectively turn them into American citizens as long as they're within the city limits. This seems to be his primary objective. Meanwhile, the robberies, the car jackings, the rapes and the murders proceed unabated. I'm starting to think we've been invaded by a foreign force that intends to kill us all.

I neglected to mention something about Chromebooks: you can't log in to more than one at a time! I ordered a new one (Samsung 4, same kind) when in Japan for delivery to USA in case the one I dropped was a total loss; on repair, when logging in to the old one it got 'confused' and kept shutting itself down. Took me a while to figure out only one Chromebook can be logged into at a time. If you have two, you have to log out of the one, then log into the other one.

Victor Davis Hansen over at American greatness as a fantastic article entitled our French revolution. "We are in a Jacobin Revolution of the sort that in 1793-94 nearly destroyed France. And things are getting scary. The Democratic Party vanished sometime in 2020." I would argue the Democrat party disappeared during the jug earred administration and and what we're experiencing today is the conclusion of that run at taking over the country and installing a Marxist regime.

Also, re: Chicago. I fly out of O'Hare as it's really the only practical option for int'l flights. It's a literal shitshow. Curbside is overrun with homeless, aggressive bums and flailing lunatics. Domestic baggage collection stinks to high heaven of piss and funk. Floors are littered with drug residue and empty alcohol containers. After about 10PM the whole place is dangerous. Airside is safe and patrolled but outside? No. The curbside toilets are Third World and unsafe, they've eliminated genders. The Blue Line, which was always the safest El, is now the same as all the rest. It's fucking disgusting and Chicagoans seem to just want more of it. I used to do what other people say: go in for an exotic meal, or some entertainment, cultural event. Now I won't voluntarily set foot in the city limits of Chicago.

Yonder Horde.
Chicago related content: NASCAR has a "street race" scheduled to run in downtown Chicago on July 1-2. There was some sort of agreement between Groot and NASCAR about payoffs (who gets what percentage of the ticket sales, vending, etc.) and it was suggested the city would benefit. In the NASCAR community the race was seen, by some, as a racially motivated stunt to "urbanize" the sport. Some of the residents in Chicago lamented the noise, thus for the first time, stock cars will race with mufflers. With the election of Brandon Johnson as mayor some in this community believe the race, which was contracted to run 2023 - 2025 IIRC will basically be a "one and done." Questions about safety have surfaced, been shouted down, resurfaced and finally given a "well, what did NASCAR expect?" treatment. I'm a fan of the sport but not the governing/sanctioning body which is every bit as corrupt as FedGov. It's going to be interesting to see who (NASCAR or Chicago) fucks the other over hardest. Such concerns came to a head as a result of a February decision by the SBC’s Abuse Reform Implementation Task Force (ARITF) to retain Faith-Based Solutions (FBS), a subsidiary of Guidepost Solutions.
So the SBC is looking into abuse claims and hired Guidepost: Guidepost is committed to strengthening diversity, equity and inclusion and strives to be an organization where our team can bring their authentic selves to work. We celebrate our collective progress toward equality for all and are proud to be an ally to our LGBTQ+ community. Posted by: rhennigantx at April 06, 2023 07:17 AM (BRHaw) 183
I'm a fan of the sport but not the governing/sanctioning body which is every bit as corrupt as FedGov. It's going to be interesting to see who (NASCAR or Chicago) fucks the other over hardest.
Posted by: Martini Farmer Meanwhile, the NASCAR owners and NASCAR organization are having a pissing contest over money and how its distributed. FYI, I recommend, if you can afford it, to purchase FloRacing. It's a streaming service that shows lots and lots of short track racing from around the country. Also, Drag racing and off road racing. I like it, a lot. Posted by: Puddleglum at April 06, 2023 07:17 AM (sAmhv) 184

I used to have peeps from Philly apply for a job at my business in the 'burbs. 99% of them wanted to take the job app home to fill it out. 1% of them could actually sit down at a desk and fill it out. No truer words. I live in that general area, and I don't go into the city anymore. It's just too depressing. When I first saw SF in the mid '80s it was a beautiful city. Posted by: Ace's liver at April 06, 2023 06:59 AM (wGeit) ---- My one and only visit to SF was in September of 1974. I was a post-doc in Cambridge, MA at the time so with my Scottish lab partner and a new Mustang II we took a month off and toured. We came into California over the mountains from Nevada singing THAT song. I was enthralled by the city and until the 2000s I told everyone that it was the most beautiful city in the world. We drove up one of the hills and stopped for a beer in an Italian bar with a bunch of old men. When they discovered we were 'foreigners' from Boston, plus I was a real Italian from Rome we got treated very well. The scenery was stupendous. Geographically it is an unimaginably beautiful place. I cannot visualize it with homeless encampments and shit on the pavements. My heart bleeds. Posted by: Ciampino - I want the old SF back at April 06, 2023 07:25 AM (qfLjt) 190

>>Is 'Macron to meet with China to discuss Ukraine and peace' a new thing, or just something that I missed? The US has become an illegitimate, undependable basket case, "led" by a vicious, preening, mental defective and an unserious, incapable junta, France and the rest of the world are sooner than later going to abandon the US for just mere survival. They'll still do the grip and grins with our leaders and gladly take the US taxpayers money, but make no mistake, the US and it's citizenry are in for a very hard reality. -- Bringing this ^ from the ONT on Bolton and Mittens' condemning the ridiculous charges from Bragg. Quick acquittal? In a sane location with sane people, absolutely yes. But the show trial will not be held in a sane location with sane people. There won't be a quick acquittal, or probably any acquittal at all. ____________ TV ratings are down for every race broadcast thus far. FOX, which has the first half of the season IIRC has had some of the worst productions I've ever seen. Commercials account for nearly 1/3 of the broadcast. And they're the same 4-6 every fucking time. The cameras seem to dwell on anything but racing. And, it's been noted quite a bit, FOX camera operators seem to have a thing for kids. Posted by: Martini Farmer at April 06, 2023 07:28 AM (Q4IgG) 194

If it's being returned there is no way you should drop it off anwhere if it was accidentally delivered. If they want it back they can come pick it up. It's different if its a neighbor nextdoor that you can walk over or whatever, but if they want it, they can send UPS out for it. Re: companies not knowing when, or if, they've shipped goods to you.
I think a lot of this comes down to the local delivery companies. Dispatchers seem to do a haphazard job of informing anyone of pending deliveries, or received goods, and so on. We were supposed to get a shipment of 150 PCs on the 11th of a month. I had everyone schedule their work around that so they could assist (which they were happy to do). Shipment showed up on the 10th. No warning, no call, nothing except the security guard saying "There's a truck out here with a bunch of palettes." Needless to say, it was just me unloading all that stuff. Posted by: BeckoningChasm at April 06, 2023 07:53 AM (p+1gI) 209

So here’s the chess move a non-self-obsessed Alpha with an addiction to chaos and maxinimu escalation tendencies does to defeat the left: discontinue his campaign and endorse Desantis.
But he won’t. And he will get the nomination. And he will Lose the general. It’s amazes me—they are “stuck with Biden,” and the only way this corrosive demagogue can win is to run against the guy who has cost us three election cycles now. And yet, the calculus will never exceed devotion to Trump—so the court will be packed by someone other than a Republican. DC will be a state, 102 senators , electoral college obliterated and so on—and all because the base must have the Hair of the Dog Uber alles. Trump wasn’t elected because the nation was smitten with trump. He got elected because Hillary voters fell alseep thinking it was in the bag. He built no good will with his behavior, and has lost everyone but the core base. He cannot win. And the minutes he loses the general will be the moment that all legal troubles suddenly resolve. I managed to score a 7800X3D this morning. I suspect that I would've been better off with a 7950X3D as my use case was for a Linux gaming desktop with the option of maybe pinning VMs to the non-v-cache ccd running in the background but I'm tired of waiting and I'm not giving my money to scalpers. I'll probably just build out another rig specifically for energy efficient virtualization once the CPU market settles down a little.
