Which is Pyrrhic at best, because Youtube-dl is open source software and hosted on GitHub, which got so annoyed at the baseless takedown demands that it created a legal defense fund for open source projects.

They've taken down what the developers described as a business card, rather than the business.

3 I ran across Youtube-dl a couple of years ago, and have used it for private downloads of YT vids and others. It used to be able to grab almost everything, but either they've changed it or the websites have altered something, so that sometimes it doesn't recognize the URL I'm trying to download from. Is there another open-source downloader out there?

I've never used a double edge. What I was using worked fine until the past 6 years. Then it's been nick city.

I tried the 5 blades one and it seemed to work well. Until it didn't.

One thing I emphatically don't miss after leaving Denver is the "head on a swivel" thing. I mean, I still do it... Once you've sharpened that instinct, it stays with you. But I'm keenly aware that, in my new locale, I don't *need* to. It feels great, every time I go to a store or whatever.

And Denver is only medium-America. If I lived in full-America, like on the coasts or Chicago or Detroit, etc... I would only leave the house when absolutely necessary. Fuck all of that.

Yesterday (4th) was my elder daughter's birthday so she took the day off. She's the one that went to feed the strays every day, then caught them, etc.

Currently here (S IL) we have a thunderstorm going, are under a tornado watch until 9AM and when this storm went past St. Louis sometime between 12 and 2AM it knocked out Charter's Internet. However they fixed it withing 30 minutes. I have been happy with their service, if not their prices, and have been with them since 1998 or so. They are quick to respond.

185 Just had my oneplus android phone install an update to the operating system when I wasn't paying attention. What a clusterfuck. My phone wouldn't charge until I figured out how to change the USB from data to charge mode - which is a bit more complicated since the change sequence is more opaque. Almost had the battery die so the phone would be bricked. Now to figure out how to roll back to the previous version like everyone else on the planet who has this affliction and can follow on-line instructions.

youtube-dl has sucked for a while as it's not been updated to handle the roadblocks Goolag has thrown in its way. "yt-dlp" was forked from and is a drop-in replacement for youtube-dl and is now the go-to video downloader of choice. So, that'll be the next target for lawsuits from Monster Tech.
