The average American citizen is at close to zero risk of ever being occupied by foreign combatants because our citizenry is heavily armed and vicious.
At this point, the military largely exists solely to protect foreign interests for central bankers and multi-national corporations.

I watched a wheel come off a car turning a corner at a very low rate of speed. The wheel bounced and accelerated to a very high rate of speed and crashed into a house about 100 yards away. It might have killed someone if it had hit them. Not sure what the physics were, but it looks like the truck wheel did pretty much the same thing. Kinetic energy?

Palm oil is used to increase shelf life of foods, it is only available from a few areas. Wheat is crop that can be grown practically anywhere, but is a low value crop. When other nations grow wheat, it frees up more particular lands to grow more valuable foods.
Are you ready to pay far more for food and have far less variety and lower quality? Do you think that people in other nations are just going to accept their fate and die of famine or make renewed efforts to get to the handful of countries that can somewhat support themselves?

Stuff like this always reminds me of the scene in Fallout: New Vegas where Caesar's Legion is introduced. I can see why Netanyahu's government needs to make the changes; I can also see some huge mistakes in their proposals. I still have (framed) the letter from the company with the phrase "due to your gross incompetence" in it. They took $100 out of my paycheck for half the replacement cost of the tires, since they were far from new. That left me with $15 or so take-home for a 55-hour week.
I'm still annoyed they didn't charge the guy who fixed a flat on the lost inner tire the day before: the bastard obviously forgot to tighten the lug nuts. But he was from an outside company, so they couldn't just take the money out of his paycheck as they did with me, and apparently never even told his boss.
(I'm a much better Latin teacher than truck-driver.)

Sure, you can have lug nuts break or work loose. Some axles a while back were retained by clips on the differential end, and if that clip went bad the wheel, brake backing plate AND wheel would slide out the end of the axle housing like the Mustang scene in Thunderball.
More likely though, either a wheel spacer (to make the car look wider, or a bigger wheel fit in the wheel well) or a spacing adapter (to use one pattern of wheel on the 'wrong' car) has been inserted between the stock mounting holes and the bolt holes in the wheel. They have to be checked frequently.

Now, I'm wondering. Is pearlite a solid solution of eutectoid Fe-C. I'm thinking laminar layers of pearlite and cementite, and don't know if that's a solid solution really.

And this is the reason things never get accomplished. Anytime someone initiates discussion, you have someone else screaming "he's a glowie!" from their armchair. But you'll notice I'm not advocating anything. A glowie would come in here saying we should all take to the streets immediately and try to rile people up. I'm doing the opposite. I'm trying to assess all our options and see if there's something I hadn't previously considered. Otherwise, what's the alternative? Do nothing? Discuss potato sauce until the hammer and sickle flies above the capital?

Pearlite has alternating layers of two different compositions and crystal structures.

I'm realizing just how little I know about metallurgy. Hell, it's almost like a whole science unto itself. :-)
Pearlite is the eutectoid form of iron and carbon, about 0.8% C by weight, and it forms very laminar structure of ferrite and cementite (Fe3-C). Below that, you get hypo- eutectoid steel, which will have free ferrite, and above it, you start getting free cementite.
Then there is bainite. Which you get when you cool it faster somehow.
I'd need to study this for a couple of years before I'd know enough to not be dangerous.

And I agree with that. The degradation of our values and our institutions is severe. But despite the degree to which this country has fallen, I don't want to be complacent, either. I'd like to believe there's some type of recourse, some solution. I don't want to just sit back and watch what was once the greatest nation on earth dissolve into ashes.

If you really think about it, unless you're a custom knifemaker, you'll really not have to worry about those particular molecular crystallizations.
Mild Steel Farm n' Ranch gates, & cattleguards for the most part.
D-2 tool steel for backhoe or front end loader teeth.
A few REALLY quality steels for PTO shafts, or such.
If you're working with more exotic steels for daily farm and ranch life, what might those be, sir?

These are the "S-curves" about cooling rates. What you get when you heat steel about critical temperature (austenite phase) depends on how fast you cool it. Those TTT diagrams tell you what you need to do to get what you want.

I have a few onion sets started to transplant outside as soon as it stops snowing here.
My gardening fun lately has revolved around some blocks of used mushroom compost a friend turned me on to. Under the right conditions they have been producing great shrooms...Oysters, Blue Oysters. King Blues...this is so much fun.
Bought the blocks to use as compost, but nurtured just right you can get a good crop of gourmet shrooms.

True. Has faith declined steadily in this country since its inception? Obviously I'm referring primarily to Christian faith. If not, if there were ebbs and flows, what events helped galvanize spiritual beliefs and elevate them throughout the population? I don't know the answer to that. But if there is some historical evidence of bolstering of faith-based values in this country, that might help lead to possible solutions.
